@Mrs. Tricycle: That's crazy. The doulas I have looked into have been $300 - $400.

@mrsjyw: @ChelseaRose: I went a little crazy buying used CD's on ebay. I think I have like 30, and they are a mix of 4.0's, & freetimes. I just washed them in Country save detergent.
I did get some new liners which I guess you are supposed to strip before using but I haven't done that.

@mrsjyw Diaper Junction has free shipping on $25+ (and their cash back) right now if you are ordering any time soon - I just got 2 more boxes of Country Save so I don't have to worry about running out.
I think it's fun so many of us are trying cloth - I am very hopeful that we'll like it even though both our parents are.. less than optimistic about our success for some reason!

Would love to know what you guys think of cloth when that time comes. We are doing disposables. There was no hope getting DH on board at all and our families were not enthusiastic about the idea. And...neither was I. Ha. I hate (HATE, HATE, HATE) laundry so it was not a good fit for me to do something that would add significantly to our already growing laundry situation.

What are you ladies doing about holiday gifts this year? I just made a final "to-do" before baby list and it is huge, and did not include buying everyone's holiday gifts lol. I guess I need to probably add it to the list.
persimmon / 1161 posts
@highwire: I will probably do online shopping on amazon or something similar. Luckily in my family we are not insulted by gift cards, so there isn't as much pressure to show up with an actual gift. My husband's siblings are for the most part broke and lame, so they never get gifts for anyone. We generally still do something small for them, but once again there isn't as much pressure about it. There aren't really any kids in the family who will be around so we won't have to worry about that either.
For our group of friends, last year we all decided that it was getting too expensive to buy everyone individual gifts (especially with several people being unemployed), so we all had to buy a $50 gift and did an exchange/white elephant type thing.

I was just wondering the other day who will be the first one of us to have our babies. Now that we are all out of the severe danger zone, I'm sure someone will be soon. I was thinking about making a list of everyone's due dates, but that seemed like too much work. Maybe we can post them again.
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@ChelseaRose: Good idea about Amazon. I just went and picked out basically everything I want to get and can just order a few things at a time until the holidays roll around. Thanks for that suggestion!
persimmon / 1161 posts
@highwire: No problem! I love amazon! I order tons of stuff from that site and I'm sure it will only increase when I need baby stuff. Although I have to say that diapers.com (now owned by amazon, I believe) has the fastest free shipping I have ever experienced. My mom was texting me that she ordered me some cloth diapers one afternoon (she just placed the order then) and they were at my house the next day.

@highwire I was stressing about this over summer because we do a lot of handmade in my family.. So I have 90% of it done and bought and shipped it/gave it to my parents to distribute (inlaws side is all wrapped and in my closet). For bought presents I'll be doing magazine subscriptions and other "activity" type gifts that don't require anything tangible to be shipped
@chelsearose good call! i'm 11/23

@highwire I'm so excited, my nieces will be getting Highlights from me.. I used to love it haha!! Also, if you shop at all on Etsy, I'd order now before the holiday rush starts so you can have it in hand before November's here That is my fav place to buy presents (and nursery stuff!)

@mrsjyw: I know!!! It is crazy that it is so soon.
I'm due 11/7 and I'm kinda convinced that he will end up being born this month.

@mrsjyw: I wonder if we are a little...EXCITED! I always wondered what it would feel like to be so uncomfortable that I would be looking forward to blowing a baby out of my vagina (or potentially having to have her cut out of me). Totally there now.

@highwire: yep... just got done telling a coworker, it all hit me this past wknd... can't move the way i used to, can't breathe the way i used to, i can't even digest food the way i used to... i want him to bake longer, but i can't wait for oct to be over!
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@mrsjyw: Yes! There's just like no way to be comfortable. Sitting up makes my ribs hurt and feet swell, laying down makes me feel nauseous and heartburn-ey, and standing up is a combo of the first two together.

Uhhh it is October. as in, babies next month (hopefully, I'm terrified of going super late and ending up in December!) WHOA!
Anyone else have a birthday in November? Mine is 11/24 - day after my due date.. so I'll be sore & grumpy or sore & happy either way LOL.
I'm meeting a pediatrician today... have a few questions but hope that she is nice and I don't have to do this over again!
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@scg00387: Yeah, same. One of my close friends was like "I predict you will deliver December 7th." I was like WTF?! That's mean. LOL
I narrowed our list of pediatricians down to 2...need to make appointments to meet them but our schedule is slammed lately with baby classes and showers and whatnot.
honeydew / 7687 posts
@highwire Haha, yes, my husband was looking up how long someone has ever been pregnant this weekend and I threw a lot of pillow his way. Everyone else keeps telling me I'll go early for sure since I'm so.. round but I've been measuring off track so I'm trying not to get my hopes up
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@scg00387: My ultrasounds have always had the baby measuring 4 days younger...so I'm predicting an 11/27 due date for myself. Certainly not December...gah!!

Anyone having Braxton Hicks contractions? Ever since my little trip to L&D last week for moderate cramping, I've had random cramps here and there. After zero cramps at all the entire pregnancy (besides the way early beginning) this is sort of new!
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
@highwire: I had a scare at like 26 weeks?.... and then nothing until last week! 32 weeks and had a painful night of bh contractions.... but haven't had it since.... i've had mild period like cramping on/off throughout the day~

A baby next month? Really? Are you sure? Can I get a recount?
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@mrsjyw: Guess our bodies are practicing! It always happens when I sit hunched over at my work desk, so I am trying to sit up straighter/sit back a little more often...
blogger / pear / 1964 posts
@highwire: FYI -- I made a "new mom" appointment to meet with our prospective peditrician and they were scheduling them three months out (I guess they only do them during their lunch hour on specific days of the week)-- we don't go until Nov. 7th.... So you might just want to double check that they have appointments available.
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@Mrs. Tricycle: Thanks! Guess I need to get on the ball there...
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
@mrs. tryicyle: @highwire: on the phone with pediatricians right now!
persimmon / 1161 posts
@mrsjyw: @highwire: I've had some irregular cramps/contractions, but not usually more than one a day and not even every day. My OB said that unless there are four or more in an hour then I shouldn't worry about it. I'm going to be 35 weeks tomorrow, so I'm not really concerned about preterm labor anymore. I'm not sure how much they would do to stop labor at this point.
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@scg00387: My birthday is Nov 27... so if LO is 2 weeks late she may hit that date!
honeydew / 7687 posts
@kml636 Oh dear, I won't wish that on you!! LOL
@highwire I don't think I have.. which I hope does not mean that my body isn't even thinking about labor, haha.
@mrs.tricycle that is nuts! Glad you got in, I had my appointment yesterday with who my OB recommended and really liked her, so I'm set thank goodness.
