OMG I only have 6 weeks of work left until my maternity leave starts. My due date is towards the end of the month so I bet you guys have even less!
I know taking care of an infant will be extremely challenging, but this will be the first time in recent memory where I won't have to get up and rush off to school or work and I am SO looking forward to it, even considering post-partum recovery and taking care of a helpless little infant. The rush around to fly out the door every morning is one of my least favorite aspects of work/school!

@highwire: i started feeling them a couple weeks ago...mine feel like terrible indigestion, up high, near my stomach. for awhile i thought it WAS indigestion, but i had one at a doctor's appt the other day and she pointed out that my stomach feels rock hard when it happens. then it goes away after a few minutes and the uterus relaxes. sometimes i have period like cramps down lower, but those are much less uncomfortable.
what do everyone else's feel like?

@highwire: i am totally looking forward to time off too...but i am afraid this "time off" will be harder than my job!

@JessLC: My BH's feel very similar to what you're describing. I have some days where I get them a LOT (today is one of those days), even though I'm drinking a lot of water.

I'm having my first REAL complaint so far...I get dizzy a LOT! I brought it up to my doctor last week and he thinks it's because Baby Girl is SO HIGH and she's pushing and making it difficult for me to breathe. It's better when I stand up, so that's why they think it's because of the baby...it's likely to not get better until she drops.
I also must have had a growth spurt in the last week, because yesterday and today at work people have been commenting about how large my belly has gotten.

@petuniasandpearls: are BH contractions caused by dehydration? And I got dizzy the other night...the room was kinda wobbly and I wasn't sure what it was. But it was only that one time and went away after a minute or two.
I feel like i cant get any bigger. We went to a wedding the other day and I was looking at pictures and wondering why no one told me that my dress looked like a red silk potato sack. Le sigh.

@jesslc I hear you, I don't understand how I can get any bigger or how this baby can gain any more weight without me tipping over. But I guess we'll see!
cherry / 220 posts
@JessLC: From what I understand, BH can happen if you're dehydrated. I drink at least 80 oz of water a day though, so I'm NOT dehydrated and still get them often.
Dizziness can also be caused by dehydration, low iron, and 100 other things. They assume my dizziness is caused by the baby because she is seriously all up in my ribs---they had trouble measuring my uterus because she's so jammed up there. Definitely mention it to your doctor if it continues though!

@highwire: I definitely have less than six weeks of work left because I'm due in five weeks from tomorrow!
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
How far along/EDD: 32 Weeks, 5 days due 11/23/2012
Total Weight Gain: 28 lbs (but weight gain has slowed thank goodness! Only gained 2 lbs between this appointment and the last one two weeks ago. Before that I put on 15 pounds in less than 2 months - yikes)
Stretch Marks: Oh yes, but they aren't that scary looking and I'm not bothered by them.
Gender: Baby girl
Names Picked: Still settled on Charlotte unless she comes out and looks nothing like a Charlotte
Nursery Theme: Mod/glam safari
Birth Plan: Go into labor naturally (my doctor offered to set up an induction date and I refused), labor naturally for as long as I can bear it, epidural if I need to rest/want pain relief.
How long are you taking off: 3 months + 1 week (going out of work a week before my due date)
Milestones: Nothing really. Grew out of some of my original maternity pants LOL
Struggles: Getting up from standing/sitting. I have no ab strength at all.
What are you most fearful/concerned about: Making it to full term. Want to take care of a lot of odds and ends between now and then and work up until my last planned day on 11/16. And of course, want her to stay cooking so she comes out healthy and ready!
What are you most excited about: Seeing her for the first time!

Hello ladies!
I'm a fellow November mama and wanted to introduce myself. I don't post too regularly in forums but the closer I get to my due date the more I find myself here on the boards reading away
Congratulations to everyone in this group - I am so excited to meet this little one and I look forward to getting to know you all in the little time we all have left of our pregnancies and hearing about your birth stories as they soon start happening!
About me:
How far along/EDD: 35 Weeks, 2 days due 11/05/2012
Total Weight Gain: 30 lbs. I was getting a little worried there after I gained 8 lbs between two appointments not that long ago but things have leveled out and my midwife isn't concerned, so I'm trying not to be either! There are 4 midwives in the group I see and only mine wanted me to stay under 30, the rest (and everything I've read) guides that 35 will be perfectly healthy so we shall see what happens.
Stretch Marks: None yet (my mom didn't have any either) but I have some time to go yet and could very well see some between now and delivery day. I do have a faint linea negra below my belly button that started to appear about half way through my pregnancy.
Gender: Girl!
Names Picked: Elora Jean. We had Jean for a middle name years ago so picking a first that went with it and our last was more of a challenge for us (as was picking any girl name, we had a boy name for years too!). We're keeping the name a surprise from friends and family though. Thankfully everyone is excited and on board about it!
Nursery Theme: No real theme, but colors are aqua blue, yellow, gray, and peach. I purchased some pretty floral fabric to make curtains and a bedskirt out of and we went from there.
Birth Plan: Go into labor naturally, labor at home as long as possible. Unmedicated birth with my midwife but I am not opposed to an epidural if my labor is prolonged (or I just can't handle it like I thought) and other interventions as necessary.
How long are you taking off: 12 weeks, hoping to work until the very end of my pregnancy.
Milestones: Recently the strong kicks have turned to wiggles and pushes. I think she's starting to run out of room
Struggles: Moving around in general - I'm with you highwire in that changing from sitting to standing is very difficult now. So is just rolling over in bed or picking up things I've dropped on the floor. My feet are also constantly aching (and have been for weeks). Something new though is that my upper back has become very sore - either my back feels fine but my ribs hurt from her feet pushing into them, or I can sit to relieve my rib pain but it makes my back screwy.
What are you most fearful/concerned about: I was a BIG baby (9.5 lbs) and I am worried that my own little girl will get pretty big towards the end. I am hoping that I will go to full term but that she won't get too comfy and keep growing.
What are you most excited about: Meeting her and seeing her little personality from the outside. Seeing my husband as a dad.

welcome @lindseykaye ! Love that name, and envious that your due date is coming up quick

Did I tell you all that I made the rest of my OB appointments? I even have one scheduled after my due date!
Also, I'm exactly 35 weeks today, so I'm due in only 35 days. Where did the time go?!
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@ChelseaRose: Ah exciting! I wish I could pre-schedule all of my appointments out like that. We just do one at a time.
Today at my appointment, my OB said I was on his list for inductions since he was going to be out of town for Thanksgiving. I asked him if this was required and he said no. I told him rather avoid an induction unless it was medically necessary. I'd rather someone else deliver my baby than be induced for no reason (and potentially cascade into the pit of interventions).
honeydew / 7687 posts
@chelsearose I told my OB no way was I making appointments post-due date LOL don't want to tempt fate I did all mine up until the week before though
@highwire that is so weird that he just assumed he could/would induce you, especially since it wouldn't be past your due date, just around it.
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@scg00387: Yeah - super odd...although I guess that is one of the stereotypes of the OB/hospital system. However, he is one of the only doctor's around where I live that will do VBACs so he is still rather liberal compared to the stigma IMO.
persimmon / 1161 posts
@scg00387: it was only for two days past my due date and given my recent high blood pressure readings at my appointments I will be lucky to make it until then.
honeydew / 7687 posts
@highwire wowza! Well I hope he doesn't put up a fight about not inducing.. that's insane, I know I've read similar things but haven't heard/experienced anything similar from my OB. Good for you for sticking your ground!
@chelsearose eep! I hope your blood pressure holds strong, I know that can get nervewracking
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@scg00387: He didn't put up a fight at all. He said that was totally okay if I didn't want to induce early. He explained that his reasoning was that he really wanted to be present at the birth, that was all. So, even though that isn't a medical reason, that made me feel good that he wanted to be present! His bedside manner has otherwise been lacking so it was nice to feel like he cared about personally being there to deliver our baby.

@highwire: talk about assumptions! glad he was "flexible" with your actual wants!
UGHHH. had the worst time at the doc's office today. so frustrating! the last few doc appts have been the routine checkup: urine test, weight, bp, and hb.... i've had the first appt of the day on weds for the last three and have been stuck there for an hour! UGHHH.
WAITING FOR THE DOC TO FINISH HIS LUNCH.
I was so starving and pissed today. I literally waited in the waiting room and in the office (after the nurse did all of the measurements) for over 25 minutes just to have him ask me if there were any problems and to come back in two weeks.

@mrsjyw: What the heck? Also, I'm confused. You have the first appt of the day but he's eating lunch? Do they not see patients in the morning?
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
@highwire: apparently weds are his "late day" and doesn't start til noon. i finally learned my lesson and switched to tuesdays for the next few. my ONLY saving grace is that he's supposedly super gentle and really good during L&D.
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@mrsjyw: Hopefully that solves it. What a pain in the butt!
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@mrsjyw: totally hear you on this one. my doctor usually runs about 15-30 mins late on a good day, and in the last 2 of 3 visits, i had to wait 1 HOUR AND 45 MINUTES to see her. so irritating! i like that she is so laid back and she is super responsive and always makes sure my questions are answered...and it is kinda too late to switch. we'll see how she is in L&D.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
@JessLC: ugh so annoying!!! elsewise from the waiting, i really like how he is with me during appts and have heard really good feedback about how he is during L&D... but o m g i was peeeved today!~

@lindseykaye: Welcome! We share a name, an undergrad major and a birth month.
blogger / pear / 1964 posts
@highwire: that kind of thing would annoy me - "I'm going on vacation, so let's just induce you...." Were you annoyed or did you just roll with it?
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@Mrs. Tricycle: we had discussed it way back at my first appointment after I got pregnant and I asked if he was open to induction bit have since changed my mind about wanting one without a medical reason. So it wasn't totally out of left field for him to bring it up like that

@highwire: I'm good thanks, thanks for asking : ) Baby appears to be breech at the mo, so just been researching my options... I've got another ultrasound next week so we'll see if she's moved. We've also finally started to buy some stuff for her, so at least if she does come early, she'll have somewhere to sleep! Hope you're doing well too!
@mrsjyw: That's crazy about your OB! Never a good idea to keep a pregnant woman waiting!
Are you guys all sorted with all the gear you need? We had practically nothing until this week - figured we'd better get our asses into gear pretty quickly though!
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@travelgirl1: not at all. We still have two baby showers coming up ok the 14th and 20th so hopefully we will get most things there and then pick up whatever we didn't get at the showers after that
pear / 1992 posts
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
@Mrs. Tricycle - I was excited when I saw a November mama become a Bee but who knew we had so much in common
@travelgirl1 - Just yesterday I was reading some story about a woman who was able to encourage her baby to turn from breech using frozen peas! Sending good thoughts your way that whatever you end up trying is successful.
I guess I feel lucky when it comes to appointments. Most of the time I'm the one running late and I am seen almost immediately but there have been a few times where I've waited for a good hour. They try to schedule their patients on days that your midwife isn't on-call, but even if she's not and you're in labor they will try very hard to attend the birth. So I just try to remember that and hope she will prioritize my birth (should she be working but not on call when I am in labor) too.
Eating lunch though? I know they have to keep up their strength assuming they all work long hours but yeah, that might annoy me. I think I would rather be kept in the dark in that situation and assume he was actually busy doing something more important!
pear / 1992 posts
I guess babies don't like cold even in the womb so she put frozen peas up where she knew the head was and a heating pad down at the bottom of her belly. The baby moved to get away from the cold and into the comfy warmth!
Sounds a little crazy but I also have read about women encouraging their babies to move by playing music very low on the belly to attract the baby's head downward - which sounds even more far-fetched but I think I would try it all if mine were breech
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@lindseykaye: Wow, that's pretty cool! Yes anything's worth a try. I have another ultrasound next Thursday so once I know where the head is, I'll give that a go : ) Right now it feels like she's laying sideways. I guess she likes to move around in there!
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@travelgirl1: Have you spent any time perusing this website? http://www.spinningbabies.com/
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@highwire: I have glanced at it, I'm going to mention it to my doctor when I see them next week and get their go-ahead to try a few. A few people said to buy a birthing ball too, which I'll definitely do. Honestly I feel too big to try even half of those positions! Lol! But they're defo worth a try!
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@travelgirl1: Ha right? I am so not in a flexible situation right now. That birthing ball sounds like a good idea. My close friend sent me that website like right when I got pregnant and I was about to be like "HANG ON a minute this thing isn't even remotely large enough to be breech" .
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@highwire: One friend suggested getting down on my hands and knees to scrub my floors. IF I could even get on all fours - which is doubtful - I'm pretty sure heartburn and reflux would put a stop to that, and imagine getting back up again! Ha ha! Oooh I'm so looking foward to being able to move like a normal person again : )
