Hey Nov 2012 Mamas!

Not sure where everyone lives but it got COLD here in Kansas! I bought a lightweight sweatshirt material jacket with a hood last spring, thank goodness, but I only have one hooded sweatshirt that fits, and one pair of maternity friendly sweat pants. BRR! Hoping it gets a little warmer and stays that way.... and wearing the heck out of my faux-uggs.. at least they're easy to put on!!

@highwire: because of my bleeding issues I haven't been able to work out at all during my pregnancy except for light walking. I'm really nervous about getting back into it after baby. : (

@highwire: I'm still aiming for 40 minutes 4 times a week, but it's more likely 3 times a week -- it's harder to find the energy after I've been teaching all day. I'm mostly doing pregnancy DVDs now or walking the dogs with DH. I wish I could say the exercise was keeping the weight down, but that's so not the case . . .

@highwire: um, no. i stopped exercising completely about 1.5 months ago...before that, i tried to go for long walks on the weekend or hikes. now i basically go for one semi-long walk on the weekend sometimes, and nothing else. i mean i walk a little to and from work on the weekdays, but i've been terrible at getting motivated. i get so uncomfortable if i'm standing for too long...and now if i sit in the wrong position too.

@scg00387: yes, it got down to the low 40's overnight last night! i was hoping to avoid buying maternity tights but i might have to suck it up. i tried wearing a pair of spanx tights i had pre-preg, and those were actually ok, but i had to fold it down under my belly so not super comfortable. my rain coat still fits and i just tie it above the belly. but i have no pants and only 2 fall shirts to wear. with only 24 days to go, i kind of don't want to shell out money.

anyone's belly button pop out yet? my innie is hanging on for dear life.

    How far along/EDD: 36w4d. Due 11/1/12

Total Weight Gain: 21 lbs as of last dr's appt on friday

    Stretch Marks: None yet...

    Gender: little lady!

Names Picked: we are 90% set on it. the middle name will be my mom's name and the first name is a different spin on a common name. unless she comes out doesn't look like the name we picked and then we're back to the drawing board.

Birth Plan: i'd rather not be induced or have a c-section, but keeping an open mind about both as well as an epidural. doctor said it was best to labor without one as long as you can and then just get it. she also said she doesn't do episiotomies that often, but it is an in-the-moment decision.

How long are you taking off: 3 months+?

Milestones: well...on thurs i will officially be full term! yay. we had our baby showers and got a ton of stuff off of our registry, i was really surprised. people really go all out for babies...i was just so overwhelmed by people's generosity.

Struggles: back really hurts unless i am reclining, which is hard to do just right at work. the anticipation is starting to build up too, which i can't stand. i hate not knowing when i'm going to go into labor. my mom went early with all three of us, so i am hoping it is genetic!!

What are you most fearful/concerned about: not much right now. just too excited...i know this is naive, but i try not to worry about things i can't change.

What are you most excited about: just finally being able to meet her and get to know her personality. she seems docile...rolling and turning, not a ton of kicks and punches.

@jesslc ohh yeah you're an early november, that'd make it even harder! i'm not due until 11/24, and I don't want to buy for 2 months. I totally hear you on the anticipation of labor, I know it's going to drive me nuts as I get closer. Yay for almost full term

This made me LOL - maternity fleece leggings that are "one size fits all". Uhhh no way! http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-One-Size-Fits-All-Black-MATERNITY-LEGGINGS-Stretch-Pants-Fleece-S-M-L-XL-/221136998723?pt=US_CSA_WC_Pants&hash=item337ccad143

Ugh I wish I was still exercising but it's been a while now since I've really done anything substantial. I was doing a prenatal strength training/cardio DVD once or twice a week and taking the dog for a walk a couple times a week but now? Nothing.
I do still take the 5 flights of stairs up and down at my prenatal appointments which I'm proud of but I need to get motivated to at least get back to walking.
Unfortunately it's mostly not happening because it's still SO hot here. I wish I could pull out my sweaters (Im in FL - though I hear you on not wanting to buy anything else with such little time to go) but I don't know if I will get to with things going the way they are.

So, after a total miscommunication on both of our parts, DH and I realized that we would both really love to have a doula present at our birth! I thought he would feel offended by the idea of one, and he thought they were super expensive. Turns out neither of those are true. We are hopefully meeting with one sometime this week! I can't believe it. Ha. I feel insanely more excited about the birth now knowing that we might have another support person there for us.

There's so much drama with the family lately that have my aunt or my mother-in-law as our support person(as opposed to my mom) would be a huge disaster, so I'm excited we'll have a non-biased third party there for us without all the emotional baggage that comes with picking one of our family members.

@highwire: Exciting. We have our first meeting with our doula tonight - I'm pumped, but also nervously anticipating it.... She sounds great on the phone - hopefully I feel equally comfortable in person. I'm thinking doulas in our area are more expensive than average - our quotes all ranged from $600 to $1000.... Is that in line with what you've found?

Less than 40 days 'til due date. I said it again and will continue to say throughout this and next month. SHIT IS GETTING REAL.

I did get good news from my boss today that for the rest of this month I'll be home 2-3x a week. Then working remote all of Nov!

THANK GOODNESS, because the drive to/from work is getting overly tedious and draining. (45 minutes-1 hour) for 15 miles.

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

    @mrsjyw: Woo!

Getting ready in the morning is wearing me out. And blow drying my hair is making me feel so nauseous and overheated. Ugh. And my commute is the same length as yours. Way jealous that you get to start working remotely. I'll still be here 5x a week for another 6 weeks. UGH.

@highwire: Oh girl I gave up on blow drying my hair. The bending and twisting that it required was just too difficult. It killed my back and made me sick to my stomach : ) Everyone at work will have to deal with my curly hair and/or pony tail that I now do every day.

@MamaMoose: Aw yeah. I have a huge mane of hair...so I don't know how I would go about avoiding the blow dryer unless I start showering at night...maybe I should do that.

@mrsjyw yay that is awesome about working from home!

@mrstricycle I hope your doula meeting goes well!

We finally found out about my husband's new job - so we'll be moving to a new state in December or January. Yikes. Trying to start the home buying process (in an apartment now) ASAP with him going up on his own to look with my pre-viewing online..... I can't wait for 2013, it will be so boring compared to 2012!

  17. Mrs. Tricycle

    blogger / pear / 1964 posts

@scg00387: Holy smokes! That sounds like a busy year!! I got married, moved to a new city, bought a house, and started a new job all in 2 months, but I can't imagine throwing a baby into that, too!! Crazy!

@highwire: The meeting went well. I can't believe how nervous I was -- very much like a first date. She's chill and calm, and she said all the right things. More importantly, DH liked her -- he can be a tough one, so I wasn't sure what he'd think.

I can't say I'm 100% relaxed with her, just yet, but I think I'll get there. She was really good about telling me to chill out - while being nice about it. For example, she said to skip the hospital tour (she was an L&D nurse there before she became a doula), and that she could give us all the childbirth prep we needed in 30 minutes next time we met, so to lay off the research. I asked her what I needed to take to the hospital for the baby and she said just my boobs. She also brings all the labor prop type things that I might need, so she's already simplifying my life. Overall it was a positive experience!

@highwire: I hope it goes well as you and DH look for a doula!

  18. immabeetoo

    honeydew / 7687 posts

@mrstricycle that sounds like a busy 2 months to me!! It will be zany - fortunately we're accustomed to moving each year, and my Mom is retired so she can help a lot (and his family lives 1 hour from where we're moving as opposed to 8 hours where we are now). So I'm trying to focus on the positive, haha! Fingers crossed the home buying will be smooth sailing!

Glad your doula interview went well!

So, I did some housework last night (scrubbed bathrooms, tidied up a few rooms), and I can barely walk today! My hips are a mess. Sitting on a heating pad at work right now

@highwire: I hope you feel better highwire. I have delegated all housework to my husband recently because I know it won't be good for me. Maybe he can help the next time some serious cleaning needs to be done. I'm fine with organizing and doing laundry, but I'd probably be in pain too from doing too much.

  22. ChelseaRose

    persimmon / 1161 posts

@scg00387: I'm glad you'll have help with relocating. I can't imagine having to do it with a newborn, but others have done it (per your thread) and survived just fine. Also, sometimes home buying does go smoothly. We went from decidin that maybe we should look into what we can qualify for to having closed escrow in about two months. I'm sure it depends somewhat on the market of the area you're moving too and how many houses are available, but I'm sure if you have a competent realtor you'll be able to survive it. The only thing that I'd worry about is that it seems like less people voluntarily sell their homes around the holidays. Although if you're moving to an area that actually has new construction that might be a good option for that time of year.

  23. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@scg00387: Our home buying process was extremely smooth when we went through it last year, and I hope the same for you! We went from thinking "oh hey maybe we should look into buying a house" to making an offer that was accepted in FIVE DAYS. We closed a month later. It couldn't have been any easier.

This isn't quite the same, but my parents moved me cross country when I was 10 months old and I think it was pretty smooth also.

  24. Mrs. Tricycle

    blogger / pear / 1964 posts

@highwire: I can finally complain that my hips hurt! If I just graze them when I'm pulling on pants it's painful - I keep looking for bruises, but there aren't any there - they just hurt!

  25. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@Mrs. Tricycle: I'm assuming they are loosening/spreading for the impending birth? I had this exact same pain early on around 16/17/18 weeks, and then it went completely away, until now.

  26. immabeetoo

    honeydew / 7687 posts

@chelsearose @highwire yay! so happy to hear two "quick" home buying stories. I feel like our luck (other than getting pregnant, that was a big plus/lucky!) this year has really run dry in terms of timing and things going how we want/plan.. so fingers crossed the home process will be the opposite!

I'm going to throw it out there that I'm officially miserable. My stretch marks are getting stretch marks and itch like crazy, my belly button is bleeding from rubbing on my shirt, and I'm outgrowing my "comfy" clothes for being around the house. Today I stupidly put in the glass bottle that I was using to hold liquid soap in the dishwasher after only rinsing it once. And then whacked the heck out of my head bending over trying to scoop it all out. And the dishwasher won't run even after I've (awkwardly) cleaned out all the suds. ACK! (rant over)

To add something positive, our dog has been incredibly cuddly my entire pregnancy, and even now that his "pillow" is kicking him, he still curls up with me at night (fuzzy, bad photo attached)

  27. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@scg00387: Aw!! My dog has been the exact same. And he just keeps like, staring at me with these weird, sympathetic eyes.

(And my stretch marks have stretch marks also)

    How far along/EDD: 36w2d. Due 11/5/12

Total Weight Gain: Yeah let's not go there. A LOT!

Stretch Marks: None yet... but am fully expecting them

    Gender: Little girl

Names Picked: We've got a first name, just struggling with a middle name and whether to keep it Spanish-sounding like her first and last names, or something more traditional.

Birth Plan: Totally don't have one. Baby is breech at the moment, so I guess it might be a c-section, there's no way I'm brave enough to try vaginally with breech. I have another ultrasound tomorrow so will see if she's moved by then.

How long are you taking off: At least six months.

Milestones: Almost getting to 37 weeks! And if I manage to get the 600 hours in I need to qualify for mat pay, I'll be mega happy : )

Struggles: Heartburn, reflux, insomnia, hip pain, pubic bone pain... And it's been a very hard month for us as DH lost his job, our immigration status is up in the air and we're trying to figure out what to do for the best. For the first time this entire pregnancy, I actually feel emotional. I was super chilled before.

What are you most fearful/concerned about: Our visa issues and whether I'm stressing little baby out by being worried about it.

What are you most excited about: Finally meeting our little girl! I saw the cutest ever shot of her profile on an ultrasound a few weeks ago and just totally fell in love!

@JessLC: My belly button is sooo trying to pop out, it's hanging on for dear life but won't be long now : )

@highwire: I've never been able to exercise during this pregnancy because of the nausea - but I so wish I had. Next time I'm going to really try!

@Mrs. Tricycle: That's exciting about your doula! I really wanted one of them but was worried about the cost - can't wait to her how your experience is!

I can't believe how close it is for all of us now! Soooo exciting!

@travelgirl1: i read this book called Do Chocolate Lovers have Sweeter Babies, or something. and it said that too much stress is bad for the baby, but not enough stress is also not optimal! so a little bit of stress is fine - helps prep the baby to handle the stress outside of the womb...something like that. this is what i tell myself when i get stressed out at work.

    @ChelseaRose: you look great!!

anybody playing music for baby? what kind? i put a pandora station on last night and held it down where the head should be...and she moved a little bit, but i don't know if its because she likes it or she doesn't. hah.

@highwire OMG that face! what kind of pup is he? What a cutie! And, I'm glad I'm not the only one

@travelgirl1 yikes that sounds stressful! I hope it gets resolved easily. I read the same book as @jesslc (good book!) and agree, I'm sure by this point the stress is just sharpening baby's brain.

    @chelsearose exciting! you look fab!

@highwire: Thank you! The main worry was that they'd take away our provincial healthcare two weeks before my due date but thank goodness they won't. Lost our extended benefits though.

    @ChelseaRose: Looking lovely!

@mrsjyw: Thank you : ) It's so cool getting closer to term!

@JessLC: That's a really good point, some stress has got to be good for it. I remember my doctor saying they like to hear the heartbeat go up and down, shows it's healthy. As for music, I bought some classical music recently to play in the nursery... some romantic classical stuff, very soothing.

@scg00387: That book sounds fab, I'll have to look it up!

@JessLC: I tried classical music once for the baby and the very next day was when I found out I was having pre term contractions. While I'm very sure the two things are unrelated I decided no more music for baby!!

@MamaMoose: haha! If there is any relation at all, I'm at the point where I should play her music all day long! I am done with being pregnant. Her kicks to the ribs are getting painful!

@travelgirl1: I loved that book, I thought it was so interesting.

I keep having dreams about breastfeeding lately and how easy it is. I've also had a few dreams about exams and papers that I am not prepared for. I guess my hopes and my fears are dominating my subconcious.

@JessLC: My dreams have really amped up lately! They were crazy in the first trimester, leveled off in the second, and now they are back to being very vivid. Usually nightmares, but oh well.

@kml636: @scg00387: Ha thanks! He's a boxer/lab mix supposedly but we aren't really sure. I want to get DNA testing done on him someday to find out what breeds he has in him.
