Soooo... just had my ultrasound and baby's still breech! She's kind of sitting up in my belly. Seeing my doctor tomorrow to discuss the options but I'm not sure I'm brave enough to try a vaginal breech delivery. I'm such a wuss : )
Hope you ladies are all having a great day!

Am I the only one who doesn't really feel done with being pregnant yet? I'm really not as miserable as I thought I'd be at this point.
My biggest concern is avoiding pre-eclampsia (not like this is within my control anyway), which at this point in time would result in an induction and possibly a slightly premature baby (although I only have 6 more days until he's full term).

@travelgirl1: I'm sorry you're little one is still breech. Have you been doing any exercises or other things to encourage her to turn? Is your doctor going to schedule you for a version (I think that's what they call the procedure where they try to turn the baby externally) closer to your due date? I know most women want to avoid a c section, but from what I've heard having a scheduled one is much preferred to an emergency one.

@ChelseaRose: I complain on here a lot, but I'm perfectly happy with this little one cooking for another 5 or 6 weeks. I don't want her to come any earlier and have health problems! I've got some symptoms going on, but it isn't anything that's totally sidelining me.
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
@ChelseaRose: I'll be 34 weeks on Sunday and while I obviously want the baby to cook until full term I really am 100% over being pregnant. I've had a rough go of it between physical discomfort and mental stress about things going wrong so I'm very jealous of your mindset!

Someone told me that when I get the epidural to ask for the attending and not have a resident do it. Anybody else heard of this? I mean I get the whole bit about the attending having more experience but are there any other benefits?
@ChelseaRose: same as @highwire, I complain a lot but I'd much rather have a healthy baby and let it cook more. But I really miss my old body and being comfortable. I really have had quite an easy pregnancy, so I should be thankful.
@travelgirl1: let us know what you decide on! I've heard the external version process is uncomfortable but maybe worth it if it means faster recovery with a vaginal birth?

@ChelseaRose @JessLC: : I see my doctor tomorrow and they're going to talk about my options then. So far I've been doing hip circles and bounces on an exercise ball, but it hasn't worked yet....
I've been reading up about manual turning but I'm not totally sold on it. I've heard it really hurts and if the baby's heart beat goes up, they might do a c section then and there, which I want to avoid. I'd like her to cook a little more! I worry that all the stress of the last few weeks has been affecting her heart beat anyway, so if I was anxious during a turning, I can't imagine that would help.
My acupuncturist suggested moxa therapy: http://www.breech.co.uk/thetreatment.php
He said if I go in next week he'll show me how to do it at home. Right now, this is the one I'm leaning towards... I got pregnant thanks to acupuncture in the first place, so I have a lot of trust in it.
Do you guys know anyone who had a manual turning?
persimmon / 1161 posts
@travelgirl1: I don't know anyone personally who has had their baby turned, but I'm sure if you search around on the boards you'll find someone. As far as I know my baby is head down (he was at 32 weeks), but if he was breech, then I'd be willing to attempt to have him turned rather than automatically get a c section.

@travelgirl1 that stinks I read about some mom "turning" her baby with frozen peas and a heating pad? Sounds like a non invasive way to try! I don't know anyone personally who has done any turning.
@chelsearose no, I am on board with that and @mamamoose took the words out of my mouth - I hope he keeps cooking but I'm ready to not be pregnant any longer.
Had my first biophysical today, 8/8 yay! Measuring on the 50% for everything and appx. 5.5 lbs (which is how much I was when I was born premature). So that was reassuring. Got my flu shot and am bummed that I now have one side to sleep on.. my arm always swells up huge
persimmon / 1161 posts
@scg00387: The ultrasound tech told me the baby was about five pounds at 32 weeks (I'm 36 now), but I know those estimates can be very off. My husband got he flu shot and tdap vaccine yesterday (in the same arm) and said that he woke up multiple times because his arm was sore. I hope you have a better night's rest than he did.

How are your belly buttons looking? The edge of mine has officially started to poke out a little...
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
My belly button is still an innie, flat when I've eaten!
persimmon / 1161 posts
@highwire: My belly button is still completely an innie. I attribute that to the extra "padding" on my belly.
honeydew / 7687 posts
@chelsearose Yeah, I know they all have to be taken with a grain of salt. 5.5 lbs sounds like so much to me! I'm glad I only got the one, I'm icing it now to try and stave off soreness before sleep!
@highwire mine has been out for the past 2 weeks It wasn't ever very deep, so it just barely pokes out/doesn't have any further to poke. But the last two days I've had to put a bandaid on it because it's bled from rubbing on my shirt
I sent my mom this picture this morning (minus the modesty bar) and she said baby looks like he is holding on for dear life, LOL.
My OB said cervix checks start at the next appt. (36 weeks) have any of you early Novembers had these yet? What should I expect? It sounds unpleasant.
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@scg00387: i just had my first last friday and i'll be going again tomorrow. she sticks in two fingers in pretty deep to see how dilated your cervix is. it is uncomfortable, but not as bad as i thought it would be and less uncomfortable than when she does it for the annual exam for some reason.
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@highwire: mine is still innie, but the top edge pokes out for some reason and it looks like an outie under my clothes. i get embarrassed, it feel like its when my nipple shows through my clothes.
grapefruit / 4006 posts
has anyone noticed that baby has dropped? i feel mostly the same as i have before, but the top of my stomach looks less full and i don't get as full anymore when i eat. i wonder if i am imagining things though.
persimmon / 1161 posts
@scg00387: I had one at my last appointment at 35 weeks. It was just uncomfortable, but not anymore than during an annual exam. I wasn't dilated at all yet.
persimmon / 1161 posts
@JessLC: I don't think that my baby has dropped at all yet. I can barely eat 1/3 of the amount that I could eat before. I feel like I look like I'm still carrying him kinda high. I already have pelvic pain at times, so I'm assuming that will increase when/if he drops. My BFF is a labor and delivery nurse and I was talking with her and two of her coworkers and they all said not to expect it to happen and that for many women it is more a myth.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@highwire: belly button is dying to get out, but is still clinging to its innie home.
@scg00387: Wow, you have defo dropped! Looking great though! I haven't had a cervix check but I'm wondering if I will at my appointment tomorrow - will let you know if I do.
@JessLC: I don't think I've dropped at all, maybe it's the breech position stopping it.... my belly is very tight and firm though.

So, we finished our child birth classes last night...and they showed us samples of the types of pads they are going to put me in immediately post-partum. That was a wake-up call. Holy hell it was the biggest maxi pad I've ever seen in my life. Shiver.
I've decided that I officially did something damaging to my hip on Tuesday evening. I'm seeing a chiropractor today at lunch time so hopefully they will help me out. I can barely walk right now! Stretching and moving around only make it worse...
I've got my maternity pictures tonight. Then, we've got four people staying with us this weekend (including 2 kids), a baby shower, a meeting with a doula, and lots of moving around. Hopefully I will be a little more mobile after my adjustment!
persimmon / 1161 posts
@highwire: I hope you get some relief for your hip! Sounds like you have quite the busy weekend planned. I hope you make it through with minimal pain and stress.
honeydew / 7687 posts
@jesslc glad to know it wasn't totally awful! interested to see if you had one @travelgirl1 (and thanks!)
@highwire yeow that is a busy weekend!! Hope the chiropractor helps and that you have a good maternity pics experience
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@highwire: Ouch, that sounds painful! Sounds like you have a fun weekend planned though. Ooooh how big are the pads? Maybe the ones I bought the other day won't cut it....
So I saw my doctor today. She doesn't recommend an ECV for me, she thinks that I'm so anxious about it harming the baby that it would be counter productive and since it only has a 50% chance of working for first time mums anyway, she recommended against it. I saw my acupuncture doctor too, and he gave me some moxa sticks, which I'm going to try tonight and for the next ten days. He says it has fabulous results so fingers crossed. If not, then I've made my peace with a c section. Whatever is best for baby is best for me, and I'm much happier with the moxa sticks version of trying to turn her than the manual way. I've made my peace with it now and bought a cinnabon to celebrate : )
Hope you all have an awesome weekend!

@travelgirl1: I don't mean to barge in on the Nov thread...but I happen to read your breech baby post and I wanted to say that I turned mine by accident! Dh and I were DTD:) ...and I was in a position that was like...tmi alert: butt up head down? and all of a sudden I felt him TURN. I screamed and held my belly and literally you could see a big bulge just...turn! 3 days later at my appointment: my doctor confirmed it. You can try to put your forehead on a pillow and arch your back like a cat with your butt up...for a few minutes and see if that helps! It worked for me haha..sorry for TMI but I had to try and help you:)

@TurtleDoves: Ha ha, that's actually really good to know, thank you! I'll try that this weekend - DH will be pleased!!! : )
coconut / 8475 posts
@travelgirl1: yeeeah, pleased until you make him stop mid-way through to scream in agony and hold your belly. That kind of ended things right there;)
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@TurtleDoves: Oooh did it hurt when he turned? I keep thinking that a baby this size might make a few waves if she somersaulted now : )
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@JessLC: I think she has been dropping, it seriously hurts down there and I seem to have more room.
@scg00387: I am wondering whether or not to get cervical checks next appt since i'll be 36 weeks too. I mean, I know it doesn't necessarily indicate anything according to my midwife who says you can be 3 cm for weeks! Let me know how it goes for you!
persimmon / 1161 posts
@scg00387: So, I had a cervical check at 35 weeks, but I guess that was only because I was having the group b strep test (which was negative!). Otherwise they won't do anymore until 38 weeks. That gave me a break for my 36 week appointment today.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@scg00387: Sorry I forgot to mention the checks earlier! I didn't have a cervical check today, just the swab for strep b. They didn't actually mention when I'd have one, but maybe it's with me being breech, they probably think what's the point....
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@travelgirl1: They were the biggest pads I've ever seen. Like, bigger than they would ever sell in a store but still shaped like a pad. The instructor said you basically only need the hugest one immediately after, and then you graduate down to smaller and smaller sizes. By the time you leave the hospital or a day or two after, you should be in regular overnight pads that you can buy at a store.
grapefruit / 4006 posts
I had another cervical check today. Still dilated 1.5 cm but 70% effaced. That's progress! She said last week I was not effaced at all. She also did a sizing ultrasound and baby weighs 7lbs right now and that she gives her permission to come out. Yippy!
@scg00387: cervical check today was way more uncomfortable than last time.
blogger / pear / 1964 posts
@JessLC: DH randomly said last night, "I think you've dropped." I was surprised he even knew what it meant. I'm starting to feel a lot bigger, and my belly looks different, so I'm assuming his guess is right on.
blogger / pear / 1964 posts
@travelgirl1: I can't handle the moxa stick smell - it's just too intense -- but I'm glad you don't mind it! Cinnabons help everything.
Also, have you checked out the Spinning Babies site? The inversion they recommend doesn't sound too uncomfortable -- maybe worth a shot? http://www.spinningbabies.com/techniques/activities-for-fetal-positioning/inversion
honeydew / 7687 posts
@kml636 I know, I feel like it will just be another thing for me to obsess about that doesn't actually tell me when I'll go into labor! But, my OB wants to do them and I don't feel like arguing since it doesn't have any risks per se ...
@travelgirl1 I hope the moxa sticks work! @jesslc that is good at least that something changed! I'm guessing it is a relief to hear baby is safe to exit
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
Ah maternity pictures were so fun! I got my hair blown out at this swanky salon downtown and then had a great, quick session with the same person who did our wedding. DH didn't go but it wasn't a big deal at all. I still had a wonderful time. And now I'm wide awake after waking up to pee because I'm so excited about the rest of our fun weekend we have planned lol. Oh also, major heartburn is keeping me up, but ill just stick with excited.
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@travelgirl1: how did the first round of Moxa sticks go?
@Mrs. Tricycle: Do you feel different now that baby dropped? I def feel like I have more room to eat and heartburn happens much less often.
@highwire: Show us a sneak peek if you can!
@kml636: me too. sometimes baby's head grinds down and the pressure feels like a bad uti! Really uncomfortable.
I had some brownish mucus come out today. Maybe from my cervical check yesterday? I haven't even washed any baby clothes yet or packed my hospital bag! Guess I should start!!
