Hey Nov 2012 Mamas!

Sitting all day is definitely the culprit of ankle swelling...and yesterday was a doozy. I worked 9-5, and then we had baby class from 6-9...and my ankles were giant, enormous sausages by the time I got home that night. Thank God the swelling goes away completely by the following morning, but I've started icing at night to try and help my poor feet.

Today was kinda eventful. My bp was really high (150/100) at my ob's office and I have since concluded that I have severe white coat syndrome with my bp and OB. They tested my urine and said that there was protein, so we were sent to labor and delivery for monitoring. I had to get into a gown and lay in bed for a couple hours while they monitored me, baby, drew blood, etc. My first bp was 130/90 and all of the rest of them (6+ checks including right after they told me they were drawing blood) for the next two hours were 120s/70s. Blood work came back fine, although I was a little low in potassium. My OB had reported to the hospital that there was trace amounts of protein in my urine at the office and at the hospital they said that it was negative (and the nurse implied that the office will exaggerate or that the tests the office uses are not as accurate as the hospital). Baby was monitored and looked great the whole time, although he doesn't like the monitors and was moving away from them constantly. We got to leave a little over two hours after getting there. I don't have to do anything different in the mean time and just go back to the OB next friday again. I told my husband that I hope we don't have to go through this whole thing again next friday too. We might though, if my bp is that high in the office again. I'm basically on the look out for severe swelling (which I don't have as my wedding/engagement rings still fit), severe headaches that don't go away with tylenol, pain in my upper uterus area, or really high bp at home. My husband and I got some lunch, went to Bed Bath and Beyond, and came home. Now I'm waiting for my mom to come over so that we can go shopping.

The other thing that the nurse at the hospital told me was that if I did come in already in labor (I'm not even dilated at all yet) then they probably wouldn't do anything to stop labor at this point and definitely would not after wednesday when I'm 36 weeks. So basically any time that the baby wants to make his appearance would probably be ok medically, but I want him to keep cooking at least until 37-38 weeks at the earliest.

@ChelseaRose: I have white coat syndrome too. I've had to go to the hospital to be monitored a few times during my pregnancy and every time my first BP reading is way higher than the rest of them. If its high again at your next OB appointment I would ask them to let you lie in the room with the lights off for a few minutes and then test again.

    persimmon / 1161 posts

@MamaMoose: I actually did that the week before and it went down from 140/100 to 125/90, so they let me leave. I think it was the trace amount of protein that made them send me.

Today I got an invite for my last shower (DH's family)! So excited. I wasn't sure the exact date/time/place and didn't want to bug anyone about it, so I'm glad I have all the info now it is going to be on 10/20. Little nervous about a 4 hour car ride and being out of town at 35 weeks but I'm sure it will be fine

@highwire: Compression stockings are fab for swelling.. I know they look ugly and they're a bitch to get on with a belly in the way, but they're really, really helped me.

How are you ladies sleeping? Night times are driving me insane! I wake up at 3am for the bathroom and just doze on and off from there until get up. I'm sooooo tired and hip pain, heartburn and leg cramps just rub salt in the wound, lol.

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@travelgirl1: I really should start wearing them to work, I don't know why I haven't yet!!

As for sleep, it is really, really variable. Some nights I sleep soundly (minus the pee breaks) and other nights I am up and down all night long with heartburn/nausea/can't get comfortable. I'm thankful for the few good nights I get here and there! I'd say about 50% of the time it is good sleep, and I cherish those times. My friend texted me this morning at 6 AM and I bit her head off because I was sound asleep at the time after being up and down all night. Ha.

@chelsearose That stinks but at least you know you're pretty much "in the clear" in case baby decides to or needs to make an entrance! Hope that doesn't happen quite yet though

@highwire wahoo! sounds like fun! My OB said to just get out and stretch once an hour to prevent clots..hopefully you can sleep in the car!

@travelgirl1 to be honest i've started sleeping really well lately, i wake up once and flip over/go to the bathroom and have stopped getting the falling asleep limbs. sorry your sleep is rough if it is any consolation, my stretch marks are out of control and freaking me out!

I have to start weekly biophysical tests next week because OB is worried baby is going to run out of room I feel like it's going to add on stress each week hoping for a "good score"!

Sidenote, I ordered some crocheted fruit rattles from this Etsy shop and go them today.. SO CUTE! They look professionally made, I am tempted to buy everything else in her shop. I can't believe how fast they got here from Ukraine too! http://www.etsy.com/shop/FrejaToys?ref=pr_shop_more

@highwire: I'm glad you're getting some good sleep : ) As for the stockings, they're sooo good! I fought tooth and nail not to wear them but they're great. They just take me ages to get on (rubber gloves are the way to get some grip!)

@scg00387: That's sooo good that you're sleeping well! When did you get your stretch marks? I haven't got any yet but I had them through puberty so am expecting them to pop up soon. I'll be 36 weeks on Monday and I think that's when my sister got them...

  13. immabeetoo

    honeydew / 7687 posts

@travelgirl1 THIRTY weeks.. at 33they're now growing up over my belly button Neither my sister nor my mom got them... but I look 100X bigger than either of them did. I don't know why they bug me so much, it's not like I live in a bikini or anything but I'm scared of what my stomach will look like post-partum! Or how much worse they'll get over the next 7 weeks!

  14. SleepyMonkey

    grapefruit / 4006 posts

@travelgirl1: sleep has gotten worse - i wake up at least 2x to pee and usually the second time is around 5am and i can't go to sleep after that. so i'm really tired and fatigued during the day, and today i was super irritable. my back is starting to hurt if i don't sit in a certain position. i find that i have more leg cramps when i don't drink enough water before i go to bed...and that makes the peeing worse. so i can't win either way! i am ready to not be pregnant anymore.

    @scg00387: these are super cute!

@highwire: we went to a family wedding 4 hours away last weekend (along with a DH family shower for us too) and i was a-ok at 35 weeks! car ride was a little uncomfortable, but just find the right angle of recline and bring lots of water and snacks with you. have fun!

i had my first weekly appointment on friday, she said the baby is big and will probably be 8 lbs if i go to my due date. also said i was 1.5 cm dilated, but not effaced at all. i think that is normal for 36 weeks. last baby shower is tomorrow! and then i can start washing all the clothes and sheets and start getting ready for baby.

anyone packed their hospital bag yet?

  15. travelgirl1

    cantaloupe / 6630 posts

@JessLC: Totally with you on the double-edged sword that is drinking before bed! I haven't packed the hospital bag yet, but keep thinking I should... still not really sure what to put in it!

  16. SleepyMonkey

    grapefruit / 4006 posts

@travelgirl1: i don't know which is worse, so i tested it out last night by not drinking too much water before i went to bed and i got a bad leg cramp. only one though, and i slept better. so maybe leg cramps is the way to go?

for the hospital bag, i found this and thought it was both useful and hilarious:

@highwire: THanks for checking in on me. I've been doing alright. My BP has been fine since I've been home. We're trying to finish up a lot of the cleaning, organizing, packing, etc. because I really feel like this little guy could be here at any time. I'm pretty convinced that I will end up with an October baby!

  18. ChelseaRose

    persimmon / 1161 posts

@JessLC: I haven't put everything in the actual bag yet, but I have it mostly set aside in one place and most toiletries are in a bag too.

As far as sleep goes, I was trying to avoid drinking water before bed, but then I'd wake up to pee too close to when I needed to be up for work (I only wake up once). For me, I've found it better to drink water before bed because then I will wake up closer to 2am, which is more in the middle of the night and lets me get back to sleep.

  19. travelgirl1

    cantaloupe / 6630 posts

@JessLC: Ha ha, that's really funny! She speaks a lot of sense though : )

@ChelseaRose: Yeah I know what you mean about middle of night being better. I usually wake up around 3, so still have lots of time to rest, but usually just dozing after that.

@ChelseaRose: Glad the BP is good! And good job getting things together! I'm slowlyyy trying to get everything done but I still feel like I have tons of time since my LO isn't due until the end of next month. But who knows what could happen. I should probably pick up the pace a little just in case!

    shit is getting REAL... :O

    How far along/EDD: 34 Weeks, 1 day due 11/18/2012

    Total Weight Gain: 31 lbs.

Stretch Marks: none yet, but the rings are officially off

    Gender: Baby boy

Names Picked: We told our parents/my brother and a few close friends. Everyone LOVES it so far

Birth Plan: go into labor naturally, try without meds, but am heavily leaning towards an epidural! (though actually getting one freaks me out!)

How long are you taking off: 3 months

Milestones: Nothing really. SHIT IS JUST GETTING REALLLLLLL!

Struggles: Getting up from standing/sitting! Peeing 2x at night and then baby boy hiccups that keep me awake! UGH

What are you most fearful/concerned about: LABOR!!! (had our childbirth class this past wknd!)

What are you most excited about: Meeting our baby boy!!!

  23. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@mrsjyw: Ha we just did our first childbirth class last night, and the entire time Mr. HW was like "You're getting the epidural right? Please get it. Please get it."

I'm hoping to tough it out for as long as possible and then have an epidural for transition/birth/placenta/immediate post-partum. So if I can make it to like 6/7 CM I'll call it good.

@highwire: @mrsjyw: shit is definitely getting real! 35 weeks today. I was hoping to attempt no epidural if I had a fast labor but I have had so much pressure and pain from her head I'm starting to have my doubts! Going to the midwife tomorrow so hopefully she will say baby girl is "engaged"

Oh gosh people are buying stuff off the registryyyyy (I'm a major registry stalker. I have no shame).

My BFF and I just went to the craft store at lunch and picked up supplies for the little activity we are doing for shower #1 on Sunday.

SO excited for our two showers coming up! I can't believe they are finally here!!

Are you ladies buying baby items that you won't need quite yet? I'm thinking specifically of the convertible car seat and the highchair. I know that I won't need them for several months and I'm not sure if we should get them now or put it off for a while.

    How far along/EDD: 33 weeks, 3 days 11/23/2012

    Total Weight Gain: 26 lbs.

Stretch Marks: The ones I had previously are just getting longer. I'm glad to not be sprouting any new ones lately.

    Gender: Girl

Names Picked: Yep, not even discussing alternatives.

Birth Plan: As long as I go into labor naturally: labor without meds until I get to 6/7 cm and then get an epidural if I want it. If something goes crazy and I wind up having to give birth naturally and can't get the epidural in time, I am 100% okay with that.

How long are you taking off: 3 months

Milestones: Not much. Getting tired from very little activity since I am so huge so I'm sleeping better. Is that a milestone?

    Struggles: Sleeping through baby hiccups.

What are you most fearful/concerned about: Delivering the placenta. What if it breaks up into pieces on the way out? What if it won't come out on its own? Agh.

What are you most excited about: Deflating (over the double chin thing!!!) and enjoying our new baby.

  31. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@ChelseaRose: I've got a bunch of feeding/teething items on our registry. And people have already given us a high chair and a few other things we definitely won't be able to use right away. I'm glad to have them!

@highwire - I was a total registry stalker too! Since I didn't know who things were coming from it didn't ruin any sort of surprises. And I totally justified it by telling myself that I needed to keep up with making sure things were in stock, etc. which actually turned out to be a necessary activity (things came and went and came back again so much!). I hope you have an awesome time at your upcoming parties!

@chelsearose - We registered for and bought some items for later on ourselves. Baby spoons, a highchair that clips to the table, larger sized clothing, shoes, toys and books that are a later developmental stage. I figure she will grow so fast and we will want (or need) these things before we know it! Put off the convertible carseat though, I am hoping our girl will fit in her infant seat for quite some time and that it will allow us to go from car to car using one seat as long as possible.

I'm 36 weeks today (CRAZY) and so far so good. We're touring the pediatrician's office tomorrow morning, then Wednesday I have my now weekly appointment with my midwife. Friday is my office baby shower and then it's the weekend again. October is already going so fast!

Spent Sunday all day in the kitchen batch cooking meals to fill our new chest freezer for after the baby arrives. I was so tired afterward but very pleased to get a good start on making food. Anyone else doing this kind of thing? We don't have family close or a church who will do the meal train thing so I'm taking it into my own hands!

  33. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@lindseykaye: Definitely stocking my own freezer with meals! My mom offered to do the same, but she's not super reliable so I'm going to make a few things myself just in case. But I figure worst case scenario, we'll be able to like order a pizza or something so its not like we will starve

We're meeting with a pediatrician on Thursday! I'm looking forward to it.

    How far along/EDD: 33 weeks + 1 day 11/25/12

Total Weight Gain: 14 lbs as of this weekend

Stretch Marks: Still just the little ones on my boobs. I periodically make hubby check the underside of my belly and so far nothing there.

    Gender: Surprise!

Names Picked: We won't make the final decision until the hospital. We are pretty well narrowed down on girl names. But we have no idea what to name this baby if it's a boy!

Birth Plan: Hoping to avoid being induced and/or getting a c-section. Everything else I can go with the flow on. Definitely planning to get an epidural. I have zero tolerence for pain. My doc is anti episiotomy unless something drastic happens so that is unlikely to be an issue for me.

How long are you taking off: 15 weeks

Milestones: Had our first childbirth class yesterday. Just enjoying getting closer and closer to 36 weeks when I can relax and feel comfortable that baby will be healthy if he/she decides it's time to come.

Struggles: Sleeping at night. Constipation and hemorroid are my biggest issue right now though. Not fun AT ALL.

What are you most fearful/concerned about: Just having a safe and healthy baby. I just can't wait for him or her to be out in the world so I can know that he/she is OK!

What are you most excited about: Lately I've been getting really excited about seeing my hubs with the baby. He can't wait to be a daddy!

  35. MamaMoose

@lindseykaye: Our families are far away too but we've actually been really lucky and my mom was here two weeks ago and my MIL was here this weekend and both of them stocked up the freezer for me. I'm also planning on doing some cooking of my own as well. Probably will be whipping up some chicken pot pie and macaroni and cheese soon to freeze.

  36. immabeetoo

    honeydew / 7687 posts

@lindseykaye I will be! We don't have anyone in the area either so I'll be making some of our own & stocking up from Costco I wish we had a chest freezer to fill, but we're in an apartment.

@chelsearose I say put it on there if you have the room to store it all!

Are any of you ladies still exercising? I was a pretty solid 3x a weeker through most of pregnancy but that has slowed WAY down lately. I can feel myself stiffening up and getting in more pain because my activity has decreased so much, but I don't want to do anything about it because my body hurts! Ha it is a Catch22

@highwire I was an avid walker and hiker until like.. 31 weeks. I've had intense pubic bone/pelvic pain on my right side, and the only thing that helps is walking as little as possible Our poor dog is coping, but I feel so guilty (and lazy). I wish that I had access to an indoor pool to get some exercise.
