Okay, my belly is losing it's roundness. Earlier this week the bottom of it was just getting saggy, and now the damn thing looks like a torpedo and is so pointy! This thing is wild.

@Meggo5: congratulations!! So happy for you that labor & delivery went well!

@highwire: I thought my belly looked a little torpedoish today too. I think these kids are just running out of room and trying to fit anyway they can.

had my 38w appointment today with a different doctor.. she did a cervical check while pushing down on baby at the same time. YEOW! No more dilation for me, still 1 cm/60%. Weight estimate of 7lb4oz which sounds huge to me!!
Any news for other Nov-mamas today??

Thanks all for your beautiful thoughts and wishes. We had a great Day 2 today and Caleb seems to be doing great. He had some trouble nursing last night but seemed to be on today. I met with a lactation consultant at the hospital and she helped me with some positions and some hints on proper latching.
It's been a long 2 days and I am hoping we can all get some rest tonight. We are being discharged tomorrow and I am a bit nervous but excited to start our life at home with our little guy.

@highwire and @mamamoose; I had to chime in about the changing shape of stomachs this late I pregnancy. The night I went into labor, this is what shape my tummy took on. And I didn't even think that contractions had started yet!

@Meggo5: Ariela's having trouble latching so I saw a lactation consultant today... She has me hand express colostrum then finger feed it to her as well as attempting breastfeeding every 3 hours.... Hope your little guy gets the hang of it soon! She also won't sleep unless held, because I had to have her in bed with me every night in hospital as pain from section made it too hard to get up and get her. Not much sleep for this mama so far-running on love and adrenalin so far

@Meggo5: @travelgirl1: I think getting a good latch is the hardest part of breastfeeding. Especially when their mouths are so tiny. Now that my milk is. Completely in my boobs are so big. My nipples have been much more sore these past couple of days. I'm going to go to the breastfeeding support group at the hospital next week if things don't improve or perhaps call the LC that I saw at the hospital. I'm still not sure if the soreness I feel is due to newness or some problem.

39 wks and I think I've officially hit pregnancy insomnia. Been up since 5am.... wahhhhhh

@mrsjyw: you don't have too much longer to deal with it. Then you'll get to deal with waking up to feed a newborn. It is a little before 3:30am in California right now.

@ChelseaRose: he's squirmind around and that's exactly what I thought... ur giving mama practice aren't u? Lol
Did anyone get their membranes stripped?
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@ChelseaRose: does the latch get easier when your milk comes in? I find it hurts even when she gets a good latch. How much sleep do you think you're getting a day? Oh and how's your recovery from the c section going? Sorry for so.many questions!
@mrsjyw: aw it is awful but good prep for when they're born. Months of having managed on little sleep is helping me cope immensely.

@mrsjyw: my sleep has been decent until last night. Went to bed at 930 and then was up from 1am to 3am. Now...off to work! Ugh.

@mrsjyw: me too. Been getting up at 5 this week. Hopefully it means baby is coming soon?
persimmon / 1161 posts
@travelgirl1: I wasn't really able to get him to latch for long before I had milk. We were supplementing then and did until day five. I'm pretty sure my nipples just need to toughen up. I'm probably getting about 6-8 hours of broken up sleep. The best sleep I get is from about 8pm-12am. I feed baby and then leave him in the living room with my husband until he's hungry again. It gives them some good one on one time and it gives me some quiet sleep time. I wake up to feed him around 12-12:30 and then again around 3-4am. Then I will wake up for the day around 6-8am. My issue is that it takes me awhile to fall back asleep. As for the c section, I have a post op appointment today with my OB so I will know more then. In general I feel better than I thought I would after major abdominal surgery.

ah! me too @highwire @mrsjyw last night was awful, I woke up every hour and a half I was hopeful that it was because of cramps or something productive but... I feel fine this morning
@travelgirl1 hope there is more sleep in your near future!!
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@scg00387: ugh yeah same - I was having all kinds of random aches/pains/BH contractions but nothing substantial enough to be labor, but just enough that I was perpetually uncomfortable. The whole reason I woke up in the first place was because DH made some huge crashing noise in the living room while he was closing a window, and then drifted off blissfully into snoring sleep. I was so pissed at him LOL
The only shining light was that I got caught up on two episodes of Felicity...
honeydew / 7687 posts
@highwire YES exactly that! I was so hopeful that the cramps would keep up and no dice. LOL to snoring sleep, my husband definitely was doing the same (minus the crashing noise) and I glowered at him jealously for quite some time.

@mrsjyw: I had mine swept and went into labor about 36 hrs later.
@travelgirl1: the first few days was tough in terms of LO latching properly. The hospital taught me the cross cradle hold which LO really had trouble with. So I experimented and found that she liked the football hold much better and latched on much more easily. The reclined position also works sometimes. For sleep, I make a point of going to bed at 10 and staying in bed until 9am. I usually wake up every 4 hours to feed LO and it takes an hour each time. So maybe 8 hours of sleep?
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
@kml636: i hope so! though i'm not too sure!
@scg00387: ugh! how annoying! I slept through most of the night, but at my bathroom break at 5am - was wide awake and didn't fall back asleep until 730am for an hour or so
@JessLC: thank you!
So, today has been pretty uneventful. LO is pretty big and takes up every inch of space so I can't really breathe or move easily anymore I haven't been able to keep dinner down all week!
I had some weird cramping/pains in my mid to low back when I was driving, but still don't think they were contractions of any sort.
Monday is my next doc's appt and I'm supposed to have my membranes swept, but after reading and talking to some mama friends -- I think I may decline. The probability that it will put me into labor is slim and also heard that if labor does come and I don't progress fast enough it could create a situation for mandatory c-section! :T Which I definitely want to avoid.
I think I'm going to only have it done if Doc says I've made significant progress from last week's 2 cm dilation~
In other news, I got my hair diiiiid today and I think DH and I are going to go see the new bond movie as our last "date night" before baby!
Have a good wknd loves!

@mrsjyw: enjoy your date! I've got hair, nails, and waxing all booked for next weekend...hope I don't go into labor before then lol

@mrsjyw: Have fun on your last date night! We went out to a kinda fancy restaurant the weekend before our little guy was born and I'm so glad we did.
I'm officially in the leaky boob stage of breastfeeding. It is pretty gross. I hope this doesn't last for too long. I woke up in a puddle, but luckily we still have the waterproof mattress protector on the bed (from when I had hope of going into labor naturally). Then after my shower it was a constant drip, drip, drip from the other boob. I guess it is time to start using breast pads.

@Meggo5: that picture of your tummy is awesome, never seen anything like it!
@ChelseaRose: adorable!!
@MamaMoose: you look awesome!
I've been busy at work the past couple of days so i couldn't get on here as much....but I made it to November 9th!! which means i get a paid mat leave, woo hoo! And now i am ready to be done......and I will be since I'm getting induced on Monday, November 12th!!!! my doctor doesn't want to wait longer since i am now past my due date and my blood pressure is always a risk factor, even though it's been well controlled with medication. So monday it is for me. I just have to wait at home for the hospital to call me to come in.
I found out about the induction at my last doctor appt on thursday and my doctor was kind of a jerk about it. I don't feel like explaining everything, i know it's partly my hormomes making me extra emotional. But he was kind of insensitive. especially when i told him about my pulled muscle under my ribs and how much it hurts - i was actually hoping to have more time for it heal, but he just looked annoyed when i told him and said we have to induce. i know he means well, but i went home after that appt and cried for 2 hours! now i am adjusted to the fact that i am getting induced and there is not much i can do about it! I am looking forward to getting this baby out, that's for sure! I just feel like it's happening so fast all of a sudden since i just finished working yesterday!
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
@PurpleUnicorn: sometimes I feel like my doc isn't super sensitive to my aches and pains either. I think they've just kind of heard/seen it all and get desensitized. I know it's probably tough to get adjusted to the idea of an induction but it sounds like its time for baby to join us. You are going to love getting to meet that little one so soon!! Keep us posted!

@purpleunicorn sorry that sounds stressful! exciting for monday though - and yay for making it to FT paid leave
@mrsjyw hope your date is fun!!
husband leaves monday morning so I have given baby a 48 hour eviction notice to come before then, or wait until friday night.. ack!

@mrstricycle it is ridiculous, right! i have gained about 26 lbs and i think 20 of them are in my stomach. i try to remind myself when i see others' pics that they are probably taller than me (5'2). or at least that's what makes me feel better

Hey everyone! Wow, love all those baby bellies!
@ChelseaRose: @JessLC: How's feeding going now? I asked the nurses in the hospital if there was a way I could give her the colustrum without breastfeeding as her latch was poor and she was so upset with herself... I've been hand expressing and finger feeding her colustrum for the last few days, but I was worried it wasn't enough and wanted to ask if I could supplement with forumla but the nurses said she was fine. Then we took her for her first doctor's appointment yesterday and she'd lost too much weight, she was down to 6lb 9oz and my awesome doctor who I love, rang the lactation consultants and told them I needed to be seen again ASAP, gave me a plan for the weekend and told me to supplement with forumla. So glad I listened to my gut! We took Ariela back for weighing today and she's put some on overnight so was totally the right decision. The focus now is on pumping and my milk came in overnight so have been able to feed her purely pumped milk which I'm really happy about. I need to try and get her to latch too but am so pleased I don't need to get her all upset anymore!
And DH has been AMAZING with her, I love watching them together, he loves her so much.
@ChelseaRose: Oh my gosh he's GORGEOUS!!!
@PurpleUnicorn: Well one for working so late, you did awesome! Sorry your doctor upset you so much. But on the bright side, you'll meet your sweet baby next week! Yeah!
@MamaMoose: @scg00387: @Mrs. Tricycle: @highwire: @mrsjyw: How are you all feeling?
I decided it was time for Ariela to make her HelloBee debut! Here's my gorgeous little girl when she was just an hour or so old, and a shot of her lovely hair too!
persimmon / 1161 posts
@travelgirl1: she is so precious! I can't believe how much hair she has! My LO is bald in comparison. Feeding is getting better everyday. I'm actually nursing him right now. I did have to supplement with formula for a few days so he never really lost too much weight. I had enough milk to feed him breast milk only beginning at day five. Then yesterday (day ten) it seemed like my milk came in even more as I got pretty engorged and started leaking. Latching was pretty painful for a few days, but now is much better. It still kinda hurts in the beginning, but then the rest of the nursing session is fine. Maybe you can meet with the LC again to work on latching her if you're having trouble.

@travelgirl1: that hair is incredible!!! Such a cutie! I'm glad you're finding a feeding rhythm that works for you and Ariela!
