@scg00387: Excellent. I mean, I'm overwhelmed, exhausted, and frequently anxious, but still excellent. This motherhood thing is so much better than pregnancy! LO is nursing right now and I have to keep tickling his armpit to keep him from falling asleep. It's awesomeness.

@Mrs. Tricycle: has ur milk come in yet? Boobs are SO SWOLLEN since earlier today but I haven't seen any milk yet.
@sc00387: hooooooray. Hope this is it!

@PrincessBaby: everyone keeps asking me... and I keep asking him how he managed to squeeze himself In therr cuz I nvr had a huge belly that protruded frontward. Fyi, no stretch marks pp and I wasn't diligent about lotions/oils. As a warning, IV fluids due to epidural have made me a marshmallow and I haven't lost any scale weifht yet due to water retention, swelling, lack of bowel movement and growing/swollen breasts. Not too concerned about it but thoufud like to know ahead of time!

@scg00387: Ooooh exciting! Hope the pain isn't too bad but sounds like you're nor far away!
@mrsjyw: my milk came on day 5 I think.... How is nursing going so far?
@Mrs. Tricycle: totally agree with you there. Being a mama rocks:even at 5am!

@travelgirl1: today is day 4. Breasts got super swollen yest but only lil drops of milk. He has a good latch but was so confused on if any colostrum was coming out the last few days.
I think I'm going back to l&d tomorrow to get some help. Not sure if I'm engorged, enema from iv fluids, etc....
I just fed him formula and feel like an utter failure rt now.
blogger / pear / 1964 posts
@mrsjyw: you'd be a failure if you'd fed him nothing! Feeding him formula means you're doing the right thing! Dude's gotta eat - not your fault if boobs haven't gotten the message - I'm sure they'll join the party sooner or later.
My milk came in after 48 hours - but I've been seriously leaking colostrum for at least 3 weeks. My boobs are crazy hard and tender! Not sure what is supposed to feel "normal."

@mrsjyw: you are not a failure! Breastfeeding is hard for mama and baby to figure out. Even the most hardcore bfing moms I know have used formula at some point. At least you are trying!
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@mrsjyw: you're not a failure at all, you did the best thing for your baby! A couldn't latch in hospital and lost too much weight and I really regretted listening to nurses who told me she must be getting enough. She obviously was't and by the time I supplemwnted with formula the doctor was worried about her. I so wish I'd listened to my gut from the start. I only had to use formula for one day then my milk came in. Don't worry, you're doing the best thing for him-making sure he eats!

@mrsjyw: making sure your baby is fed does not make you a failure, it makes you a good mom!! My good friend's milk didn't come in for a week so she had to supplement with formula and as soon as her milk came in her baby went to the breast full time with no issue and is now a thriving 4 month old. Don't stress yourself out about it!!

@mrsjyw: definitely don't feel like a failure!! You're doing the best thing for your baby--makIng sure he eats and is healthy! have you gone for ur first pedi appt yet? What was his weight? Also I was vey swollen from IV fluids for about a week or so as well. It sucked but it did go away.

Should have a baby by noon
Went into labor at almost exactly midnight and am fully dilated after 8 hours. We are just waiting on her to drop a bit more....and holy geez, I love an epidural.

I'm going to be pregnant forever. Every night I am up each hour to pee, enjoy some mild contractions, and each morning everything stops. Annoying!!!

@PrincessBaby: DH has been home for days, everyone has been off work and ready...and nothing. Tomorrow he is going back to work until baby gets here and I have a million doc appts scheduled for next week I was hoping I wouldn't have to attend. All these people want to like.go out and have me come over and I'm just not interested! Rawr.

@highwire: ugh! I hate how people are like "We'll since you won't be able to do xyz in a few days once the baby is here, you should do it now!" It's like, um no, I don't want to go shopping/meet you for dinner/have company/go to your house....None of the above. I just want to keep my whale self in my pjs in my house and wait for this baby to finally exit my body after what seems like 100 months!

@petuniasandpearls: yay! Good luck!
@highwire: ah I'm sorry. The last week or so does feel like forever. Do you have an induction date on sight? I know it doesn't help you now but once she's here all this will just seem like a bad dream.

@travelgirl1: December 3rd is the official eviction date, so at least there's that!

@mrsjyw: omg don't feel bad!! U have to do what is best for your little guy and for you too. It can be very overwhelming in the beginning because of all the advice you've read, but your situation is unique to you so you may have to do things differently than others. Don't worry mama, you're doing a great job.

@mrsjyw: Because of the nature of my delivery my baby was given formula from the first night he was born. I didn't have enough milk until five days after he was born to have him exclusively on the breast. He will be fine and so will you. Just make sure you're offering him the breast first each time and you'll eventually have plenty of milk for him.

@scg00387: @petuniasandpearls: Congrats congrats!! How exciting to have two more babies on their way!
And they'll all be here so soon! Can't believe how fast November is going by (especially considering how SLOW the beginning was feeling for me).

@scg00387: @petuniasandpearls:hoooooray! sending you all my good labor vibes today! xoxo
@lindsaykaye: ellora is beautiful!!!
@JessLC: thanks so much for the support! i am def trying to take mental notes day by day...
@ChelseaRose: thanks!! will definitely follow your advice and offer the breast each time, even though it may not be fruitful each time!
@Mrs. Tricycle: thanks mama! so glad to hear baby boy is getting that milk! milk is def in for me... just taking it hour by hour!
@highwire: hang in there friend!!! ugh.... come on baby!!!
@hilsy85: thanks friend!! yea we had our pedi appt and he'd lost about 10 oz - 3 days post delivery and i think that's why i'm hypersensitive about not being able to see colostrum/eating/etc. i am def swollen from IVs. but the milk seems to be flowing a lot more than it was earlier... taking it hour by hour!
@travelgirl1: thank you so so much for this. needed this so badly! I fed him with formula 2x overnight... and just fed him on breast successfully for the first time! trying to take it hour by hour!!
@kml636: thanks for such encouraging words!!
Seriously, I have no idea how I'd mentally survive without this community! Earlier this am, I totally had a FTM/hormonal/irrational breakdown that I was doing something wrong, having these huge (HUGE) breasts not producing anything for A!
I fed him with formula 2x overnight and then slept for a lil bit (thank goodness my mom's here).... and just successfully fed for the first time (15 min or so).
I'm just trying to be conscious of offering the breast first, feeding on both sides if he takes, and will supplement with formula when necessary... going to try all of the steps again to get the swelling/milk out (hot shower, massage, pump, etc.)
I don't think my supply/flow is quite there yet, but it's def better from earlier today, when I or DH hand massages/expresses...
(P.S. - i also called L&D for advice, and they all offered me the same info i found on here! and google! the only thing they suggested diff was coming in to the hospital if i wasn't getting anything at all today.)
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU AGAIN LADIES! XO

@mrsjyw: you are doing everything exactly right, sounds like!! The first few days are hard for so many reasons, but like u said, take it one step at a time. The only other piece d advice I have is I you're still having trouble with anything related to breast feeding in a day or so, get a lactation counselor to come to the house!!! They are super helpful and have tons of knowledge/advice.
honeydew / 7295 posts
@highwire: as someone who went 5 days overdue (and finally had to be induced because of low fluid levels and high BP) I can tell you i completely sympathize!!! I hope you go into labor soon. Enjoy your sleep in the meantime. Having a baby is Waaaay more fun than being pregnant but those first few weeks are really really REALLY hard.

Our baby girl was born just before 11am this morning, after 10.5 hours of labor. Contractions started a little after midnight and quickly progressed to every 3-4 minutes. I labored at home for about 3 hours and when we got to the hospital I was already dilated to a 6. We had some issues with my paperwork and getting the epidural took a little longer than I would have liked, but overall it was an easy, quick and smooth delivery.
She's 6lbs, 15oz and has a TON of hair! She's an aggressive and lazy feeder, but with work I think we can do it.
