@eiko2010: i've just started to feel like that when i try to roll over in the middle of the night - i have to be a bit more careful of how I'm moving.
It's so exciting that (mostly!) everyone is finding out what they're having, and more importantly, that so far, everyone and their babies are healthy.
Is anyone doing anything exciting for the long weekend? My work just announced we're getting out at 2 pm. Yay!

@eiko2010: Congrats on your baby boy!! I feel very full and "crowded" later at night. It does help a bit to try and sit up as straight as possible. But once I go to bed, the next day I feel fine again till the night time.
Well my weekend isnt what it was suppose to be. I was suppose to be working but found out yesterday I have a superficial bloodclot in my leg so I got told no work til Tuesday I am mostly upset cause it takes away from the time I have been saving for maternity leave. But I am gonna try and make the most of it.

@pinkb: Oh, that stinks! But yes, rest up! Don't want that turning into something more serious! Sounds like a good excuse for chick flicks and fro-yo, to me!
GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts
@dagret: I've noticed the same when rolling over! We are working a little on the nursery this weekend!
@pinkb: feel better - prop those feet up and rest!

I wish this cold would go away. So miserable being Pg and having a cold. I get very uncomfortable at night now. Also having trouble feeling movement even though the baby was very active at the anatomy scan. Probably due to my anterior placenta. anybody else have an anterior placenta?
honeydew / 7504 posts
@kayakgirl73: I don't, but I'm still not feeling a whole lot of movement. 21w1d today. Hoping it gets more regular soon.
@dagret: Tonight I'm taking our cat to the vet - very exciting! Tomorrow Hubs and I are cleaning out the room that will be the nursery. Right now it's kind of Hubs' Man Cave - it has all of his old sports trophies and movie posters and his Playstation. But it's painted lavender, which always makes me laugh. It has to be the most feminine-looking Man Cave in history. Anyway, that's our Saturday. Sunday Hubs is going home for his brother's housewarming party, but I can't, so I'm going over to a friend's house for a little party. And Monday I'm on-call for work, so I'll most likely be stuck at home, answering pages all day.
grapefruit / 4235 posts
Tonight and tomorrow afternoon im just putzing around the house, maybe taking all the crap from what will be the babys room to the guest room closet.
Tomorrow we are headed to my family's hunting camp through Monday am. Then Monday we have a picnic at my husband's uncle's house.

My DH's Mess-Cave...er...Man-Cave (He keeps it a disaster zone) will be cleared out this weekend too for all the baby stuff. Our growing collection of gear is getting too much to keep behind the couch anymore!
Is anyone else collecting a lot of gear already? I have friends who have been giving me all kinds of things they no longer need. I'm actually quite surprised at how much money I think we're going to save because of their generosity.
Have a great weekend all!

this is DH's last weekend before diving into paramedic school, so we're sticking close to home and enjoying the beach and time together without homework and without a kid! kinda weird to think about, although he will have a week off in december for christmas.
DH went fishing today and caught a TON of dorado and tuna (like over 30 lb per person) so i guess we're also eating fish tacos and BBQing all weekend. fine by me!
i'm jealous of you all with a special room for a nursery/gear. we live close to the beach, but that means that we live in 600 sq ft! we're lucky to have a second bedroom, but that's also our "walk in closet" and my office. so our baby's room is very multipurpose. i did get her another drawer for our built in closet and a hanging rack, so i organized the stuff we do have... although i don't know what i'm going to do with the changing pad and baby bjorn babysitter that i just got on sale!
happy long weekend!!

@kayakgirl73: I know how you felt. I had a miserable cold last week. Not being able to take the "normal" meds that I would to alleviate the pain, sucked. I couldn't breathe out of my nose for 3 days straight, and breathing out of my mouth in the heat was terrible. I was out of breath all the time because I couldn't get enough air in. It took about a week to start feeling better.
Hang in there!
I don't have an anterior placenta... I was told I had a posterior and I asked the Dr. what that ment and shes said " oh that's our favorite position (us as in doctors) so when you get a c-section its right there waiting for us no need to search "
Im thinking thanks Doc for making me think about c-sections for no reason......

I had my first ultrasound yesterday, and baby looks great! It was so crazy to see the baby moving on the screen & feeling the movements in my belly at the same time. Made me realize how much I actually do feel and don't really contribute to the baby. The tech did mention a part of the brain that has some fluid or something (I can't remember what the technical term was). Anyway, she said it was a low marker for down syndrome. Which, of course, made us worry. But she checked all the other markers (there's 30 or so in all), and the rest of them looked fine. She said the brain thing almost always clears up as the baby grows and develops, so we're not going to worry about it. My dr. wasn't concerned at all. In any case, it won't really make a difference even if the baby does end up with Downs -- we'll love him/her anyway.
I'm starting on an algea DHA supplement today. Anyone else taking anything for DHA? Any other supplements? I'm trying to decide what to do about calcium, because I get kidney stones and a high intake of calcium can contribute to stones. Decisions, decisions
cherry / 165 posts
@allison: My prenatal vitamins actually have DHA in them, they are the vita fusion gummies with DHA.
pomegranate / 3643 posts
@allison: We (or me...my husband would find out!) are waiting. They got my sister wrong in the ultrasound, and so I want to see it in person before I make any judgments! Also I've heard you are more likely to get practical presents instead of clothes if you wait. I think if we have another, I might find out then, just to have both experiences. It does seem like no one waits anymore - I remember thinking it was weird when people did it until I got pregnant!

Maybe we should start a list of cold/headache remedies? Here are my favorites (I've had a cold this week too!)
Cold:
- Netti pot (use boiled or distilled water! Though it can be very cold at room temperature; I nuke it for 20 seconds first).
- Hot shower with a few drops of peppermint/eucalyptus essential oils on a wash cloth
- Husband's homemade chicken noodle soup (so lucky!)
- Tylenol for aches and pains
- Benadryl to dry me out at night
- Hot tea with honey
- Lemon juice, honey, dried ginger and cinnamon, plus hot water. It's like a virgin hot toddy. So good/warming, though I can't personally drink lemon juice anymore
- Heating bag for aches and pains
- Water, water, water
- Clove of raw garlic and honey (I do this but I don't know if it helps)
- Zinc
- Riccola herbal cough drops are my favorite
Headache (I had a bad one for a few days in August)
- Take a washcloth, wet it, wring it out, add a few drops of peppermint oil, and put in freezer. Apply to head
- Water
- Chamomile tea
- Avoiding screens (I'm so bad at that!)
- Sucking on peppermints
- Massaging temples
Now if anyone has any heartburn remedies, please pass them on! I already don't eat anything acidic for other reasons, but I can't do the don't eat two hours before bed because I can't fall asleep if I'm hungry.
pomelo / 5628 posts
@jedeve: I don't have any magic heartburn remedies, but I've been avoiding major triggers for me which includes raw onion, cooked tomato, carbonation, really acidic drinks. Although I also seem to get it from cheese sometimes!
Drinking more water has definitely helped. I've also heard that chewing gum after eating can help because it causes more juices to flow in your stomach. I've tried this, but can't tell if it helped.
Ice cream is supposed to help too!
But mostly I eat my Tums Smoothies and they get rid of most of it. (I forgot them on my last vacation and had to buy peppermint tums. I don't know how anyone thought mint would soothe fire. Not cool.)

So ladies....we've been quiet the past few days and I was thinking now that most of the anatomy scans are done it's time for updates!
How far along/EDD:
Total Weight Gain:
Stretch Marks:

What are you most excited about:
Random fact about you:
pineapple / 12793 posts
How far along/EDD: 22w4d / Jan. 5th '13
Total Weight Gain: +1
Stretch Marks: I have small ones on my hips and on my boobs. No marks whatsoever on my belly yet.
Gender: Baby Girl!
Names Picked: I'm 100% but DH is about 90%
Nursery: We picked our glider this weekend and I think I've figured out what crib I want. I am hoping to get a daybed in the room so that my mom will still have a place to stay when she comes to visit.
Birth Plan: My mom did 9lbs9oz without pain meds so I'm going to aim for that as well. But I'm totally open to whatever labor brings me and will take the epi if I need it.
How long are you taking off: Most likely a year (thanks Canada!)
Milestones: The anatomy scan was a biggie. I'm currently counting down to viability.
Struggles: Heartburn is driving me nuts.
What are you most fearful/concerned about: This week I've become nervous about pre-term labor. I think I had a braxton-hicks contraction the other day and it freaked me out.
What are you most excited about: Meeting our sweet little girl. I'm so curious to see what she looks like!
Random fact about you: I have two different colored eyes, one green/one brown. They are the same darkness so most people don't notice at first.
honeydew / 7504 posts
@oliviaoblivia: Ooh, I love this!
How far along/EDD: 22 weeks tomorrow (Thurs) / Jan 10th.
Total Weight Gain: I think 11 pounds. I haven't weighed myself yet this week.
Stretch Marks: None yet!
Gender: BOY!
Names Picked: So far we just have a list of our top names. We may actually wait to pick until he's born. But our names are Evan, Tobin, Braylon, and Everett.
Nursery: We're doing pale blue-gray walls with an orange accent wall. My mom is making the blanket and a cushion for a bench (Ikea bookshelf on its side) out of a lime green and royal blue argyle fabric. I'm putting up a paper lantern "mobile" above the bed of lime green, royal blue, ice blue, and kelly green lanterns. Over the dresser, we're doing a gallery wall of random prints.
Birth Plan: Hoping for natural, but not opposed to interventions if medically necessary. OB at a hospital.
How long are you taking off: 12 weeks with FMLA. Should get 5-6 paid full salary, and the remainder paid 60% on short-term disability.
Milestones: Found out we were toxoplasmosis NEGATIVE (yay!) We passed the 1/2way point! Had the anatomy scan. And am just now starting to feel him move around!
Struggles: Heavy belly. I weighed this much once in my life but it was because I was drinking too much, and the weight was much more evenly distributed. This feels like all the weight is in my belly, so it feels very heavy. And it hurts my back. And my tailbone is KILLING me.
What are you most fearful/concerned about: Breastfeeding. I think I have an almost irrational fear of breastfeeding - what if he can't latch, what if my milk doesn't come in, what if it hurts too much....?
What are you most excited about: Meeting him, holding him, smelling him, and seeing Hubs with him.
Random fact about you: I was a synchronized swimmer for 9 years!
grapefruit / 4235 posts
Great job adding the updates!
I will do my update tomorrow after my 20 week appointment.
@eiko2010: ooh, i bet you know some of the people I know! I have 2 former synchronized swimmers from Carlisle/Mechanicsburg in my book club.

@eiko2010: I'm mildly obsessed with synchronized swimming - so cool!
honeydew / 7504 posts
@dagret: It's possible, but I doubt it. I didn't really know any of the swimmers outside of my club. We competed, but I was young and didn't really pay much attention to anyone else.
@oliviaoblivia: It was SO much fun!
grapefruit / 4235 posts
@eiko2010: they did it from the time they were young through HS. One girl even competed in college.
pineapple / 12053 posts
great idea @oliviaoblivia!
How far along/EDD: 21w1d / January 15th
Total Weight Gain: i'll go by my last known weight pre-pg and say 12 lbs.
Stretch Marks: none.
Gender: lady baby!
Names Picked: we have a few top contenders, but i feel like we'll go in with a couple of names and not choose for sure until we see her.
Nursery: it's our office/closet now, so we're still playing with ways to move the furniture around to fit her in there. we'll co-sleep for the first several months, so i'm not in a huge rush to set it up
Birth Plan: natural with no unnecessary medical interventions. i've hired a doula to help us with this process and bought a hypobirthing book/cd to prep. i would really love to go med free just for the recovery more than anything else. i'm not a huge fan of meds to begin with (until i have a headache, then i love advil! not now though, obv) so the thought of all those meds and something going wrong because of it freaks me out. i think at the end of it, i'm really open to how i will feel when i get there as i'm a huge wuss.
How long are you taking off: still TBD, but hoping for 3 weeks before my due date and 12 weeks after she is born. need to negotiate with my boss.
Milestones: felt her moving (not regularly though!) and past the 1/2 way mark.
Struggles: DH just started paramedic school FT 3 hours away from where we live, so he'll be living there (with his parents) M-F. i think the reality of being alone hit me this week. it's going to be tough until april, but i know we can do it.
What are you most fearful/concerned about: timing of her birth since DH is in school. i can't control it at all, so i'm trying to let that idea go!
What are you most excited about: having her here. we hung out with a bunch of 9-12 month old girls and they are just so cute. i'm excited to add to our family.
Random fact about you: i've never broken a bone!
pineapple / 12053 posts
@oliviaoblivia: i'm jealous of your time off! is that your dog in your avatar or is that an idea of what your eyes look like?!
@eiko2010: i'm nervous about breastfeeding too. i'm going to a la leche league meetup next week. i hope it's a cool group as i'm going alone and i have no idea what to expect! they recommend coming in before you give birth if you can, so i'm doing it!

How far along/EDD: 20 weeks, 5 days/ EDD Jan 18
Total Weight Gain: a lot it seems! Probably 15, maybe more.
Stretch Marks: nope (my sister didn't get any until the last week....)
Gender: Boy
Names Picked: Dylan
Nursery: We're thinking of dinosaurs as a theme. We've found some cute decals online. I'm thinking one blue wall and 2 light yellow? We'll see... I hate looking for furniture since it all looks the same and is expensive, but I think we're set on white.
Birth Plan: Meds. I do not plan on powering through.
How long are you taking off: 8 weeks planned. None before. All of it will be paid by accrued sick leave which seems lame to me. I don't have disability since I didn't sign up for the insurance before I got pregnant (teacher don't pay into state disability).
Milestones: I feel like every day is a milestone, but no major ones to speak of.
Struggles: Weight gain...not that it's wrong, just I'm not used to it and do not like it. Tailbone and hip pain.
What are you most fearful/concerned about: Pre-term labor, autism, birth...
What are you most excited about: Finally having a baby!
Random fact about you: I have the same birthday as my grandma.
honeydew / 7504 posts
@birdofafeather: Yes, we're taking a breastfeeding class, as well. His is coming so that he'll be able to help if I run into issues - he can remind me of techniques or whatever.
pineapple / 12053 posts
@eiko2010: i wish DH could come with me! i'm planning on having our doula run over some basics beforehand, so he can help!
pomegranate / 3643 posts
How far along/EDD: 21 weeks, 1/11
Total Weight Gain: 13-15 lbs
Stretch Marks: Not that I can see. If I could see the other side of the belly, then who knows.
Sex: Dunno!
Names Picked: Mark John or Mabel Rose
Nursery: Sleeping in our room for a few months, maybe turning the guest bedroom to a nursery afterwards, depending on if we're moving or not next summer.
Birth Plan: Need to think more on this!
How long are you taking off: Still unemployed, unfortunately, so I'm looking at SAHM-ing for a while.
Milestones: US yesterday, baby kicks a lot!
Struggles: HEARTBURN. Self-consciousness about weight gain (though it's nice to look pregnant and not just fat finally), boredom of being unemployed
What are you most fearful/concerned about: Was told I have a low-lying placenta yesterday. Have a follow up ultrasound at 28 weeks. That and money.
What are you most excited about: Holding him/her!
Random fact about you: I live in Montana.

How far along/EDD: 21 weeks Jan 17
Total Weight Gain: 7 lbs
Stretch Marks: none
Gender: Girl
Names Picked: I have my favourite, but DH isn't so sure. In the meantime, when asked and for fun we tell people we're calling her: Calterra Sasquanchia Amarillus Maximus. It always gets a big laugh and then no one keeps asking us.
Nursery: haven't done much. Baby will be in a bassinet in our room for first while. We want to buy a house first and do a nursery in it, but we can't find what we're looking for!
Birth Plan: natural with midwives.
How long are you taking off: 12 months ( I live in Canada). DH will take the first 4 weeks off too.
Milestones: Finding out it was a girl, obtaining a whole pile of baby gear.
Struggles: Finding a house to live in! (we have a town house now, which is fine if we can't move first, but kind of dissapointing. We're quickly reaching the now or never ( or at least until next summer - point of no return)
What are you most fearful/concerned about: breastfeeding and being bored. I really hope I don't get bored on mat leave.
What are you most excited about: seeing her face.
Random fact about you: I'm trying to write a novel.

How far along/EDD: 20 weeks / 01-21-13
Total Weight Gain: +6! So excited to find this out at my appt last Friday.
Stretch Marks: none that I can see
Gender: not finding out
Names Picked: I think we're going with Eli for a boy or Nora for a girl (both family names)
Nursery: baby will be in our room until we move to a bigger place, probably
Birth Plan: my goal is natural, unmedicated. I have a doula & I've been doing a ton of reading on natural pain management and such. I really want to stick to this plan.
How long are you taking off: I'm a nanny, so I'm not working starting the week of Christmas and we'll play it by ear from there.
Milestones: Ultrasound! This was our first/maybe only one, so it was really exciting to see the baby.
Struggles: joint pain, getting enough exercise, pregnancy rhinitis
What are you most fearful/concerned about: currently this Down's Syndrome low marker in the baby's brain. It's a bit stressful knowing it's there but not really knowing what it means, & not being able to just fix it.
What are you most excited about: I'm (currently) really excited for my husband to be able to feel baby's movements regularly like I can. I feel so much more connected to him/her now that I'm feeling a good bit of movement, and I'd like husband to experience it, too.
Random fact about you: I studied abroad in London one semester of college. Changed my life.

Gender: BOY!
Names Picked: Still working on that. We are keeps his name a secret from family and friends until he is born.
Nursery: We are doing a "vintage airplane" theme. With blue and light gray.
Birth Plan: Having thought of this, but Im sure Im going to want meds.
How long are you taking off: I'm only working part time so I don't have any family benefit leave, so as long as I'm allowed to take off without forfeiting my job. Who knows I may not go back.... I'm lucky to have DH who has a well paying job.
Milestones: Finding out the sex and feeling baby on a regular basis.
Struggles: Gaining weight, I've never weighed this much and before getting pregnant (he was a happy "suprise :)) I was on a goal to get super fit.... So I struggle with my body image... I can't imagine getting bigger and Im only half way there ! My pregnancy has been such a breeze though I can't complain!

Stretch Marks: none yet!
Gender: baby boy!
Nursery: shades of blue
Birth Plan: meds. for sure. and i'm not ashamed! haha!
How long are you taking off: 12 weeks
Milestones: our anatomy scan was the biggest one so far!
Struggles: lower back pain and comfort when sleeping
What are you most fearful/concerned about: this may sound silly but we are a little concerned about how our dog will adjust.
What are you most excited about:holding our baby!
honeydew / 7504 posts
@coacheswife123: RE: the dog, not silly! I'm a little worried about our cat. She's VERY skittish around new people because she's so used to it being just the 2 of us and her. So it'll be interesting to see how she adjusts to this new little being who's taking up all of her snuggle time on Mama's lap!
In other news, my little sister (younger by 4 years) called last night to tell me that she's pregnant! She is about 6 weeks, and has a VERY tentative due date of May 2. I am SO FREAKIN EXCITED. Never in my life did I think that we'd be pregnant and having babies together! Our parents are going to lose their minds!
