How far along/EDD: 19weeks 5 days/ Jan 29
Total Weight Gain: 2lbs
Stretch Marks: no new ones yet
Gender: GIRL!
Name: DH is dragging his feet on this, his only pick up to this point has been Abigail. So it would be Abigail Eileen, but we will see.
Nursery: We cleaned out the spare room but still need to move all the furiture out. It iwll be dark wood, tan walls and pale pink. We have looked at the furniture we want but have not pulled the trigger yet.
Birth Plan: Among other issues like anxiety and control issues, I will be the odd ball and say I hope for a c-section. I was 10lbs and DH was 9.5lbs (his mom loves to tell me his head was as big as his shoulders), so I still want to have a vagina after this But If I have to do/ try vaginal then meds all the way!
How long are you taking off: 8 weeks
Milestones: Finding out it was a girl but cant wait to feel kicks, I am hoping it makes it more real for me
Struggles:Headaches, anxiety, Currently have a superficial bloodclot in my leg The doctor has already threatened bed rest beacuse my job isnt very good for my poor circulation
What are you most fearful/concerned about: making it to the end with a healthy baby, birth, money, and making our schedules work out when I have to go back to work.
What are you most excited about: Seeing our little one we created,, who she looks like, and seeing how DH will be with her. And I am really excited to see our current family with her, that being our 2 dogs that have been our babies for 8 years.

Question: What kind of exercise is everyone doing? I did almost none - just a little walking - during the first tri and I'm finding it really hard to start doing more right now. I feel so much better, but my hips just feel weird (when not totally painful) when I walk a bunch. I want to do prenatal yoga and weights, I haven't gotten a routine yet.
pineapple / 12793 posts
@Mrs Green Grass: I've pretty much only been walking. I've tried to go to the gym a few times but it zaps my energy too much. I hope someone else posts their miracle work out cause I feel like I've been slacking.
apricot / 426 posts
@Mrs Green Grass: I was doing yoga and lifting weights (just 10 lbs) to strengthen my back, but I stopped when I started having on and off spotting for about two weeks. The spotting turned out to be nothing, but I haven't gotten back into the yoga/weight routine. I think I will this weekend. I have a weak back from a previous injury and I know I'm going to need more back strength to care for the baby without pain.
BTW: I just do yoga from a DVD. I'm not reliable enough to make it a regular class!
GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts
@Mrs Green Grass: i started prenatal yoga at about 9 weeks and do it about 3 or 4 days a week and love it. I'm doing the Yoga Fit Pregnancy video and ordered it from Amazon. Also, I walk some, but it is still really hot right now where we live!
grapefruit / 4235 posts
@Mrs Green Grass: um..im not exercising at all. But i never did before pregnancy either. Oops.
@eiko2010 that's so exciting about your sister! I saw on your blog that you're going to FarmAid - me too. I'm not too concerned about 2nd hand smoke considering I've been to 3 Phish shows this summer.
How far along/EDD: 20 weeks/ Jan 25
Total Weight Gain: 7.5 lbs
Stretch Marks: not yet
Gender: boy
Name: The first name has to start with L and the middle name has to start with H. So far I really like Leo and Landon, and DH likes LEDGER. Let's just say Ledger hasn't grown on me yet.
Nursery: Hoping to start clearing out one of our spare bedrooms this weekend...sigh!
Birth Plan: I bought a hypnobirthing book and tracks that I need to start working on; both of our moms had (unexpectedly) natural births. (chalk one up to the Three Mile Island evacuation, and the other to the coldest day on record.) I would like to *try* to labor without drugs; but am open to receiving them if necessary.
How long are you taking off: I don't get FMLA so i'm hoping to tack on 2 weeks to whatever short-term disability says I'll get. (So either 8 or 10 weeks)
Milestones: The halfway point! And DH can feel him from the outside now, so that's been really cool.
Struggles:Currently have marginal placenta previa (no restrictions.) hoping that clears up soon. Feeling like death from a cold this past week.
What are you most fearful/concerned about: having a healthy baby, safe delivery...and on the trivial side...hoping that he doesn't grow up to be a Cowboys or a Ravens fan. (We're a Steelers/Eagles house divided.)
What are you most excited about: I can't wait to see him. And to see DH with him, and especially to see how our nephews interact with him.

@Mrs Green Grass: i've been doing the dailey method regularly. it's a barre class and they have specific protocols for pregnancy! it's great for athletes and non-athletes alike. stretches you out and helps you feel strong! since you're local to me, i know there has got to me a studio close to you!
other momma bees, check it out!

@Mrs Green Grass: I try to walk at least 4 times a week for about 45-60 minutes and lift 5 lb weights, but i feel like I should do more
honeydew / 7504 posts
@Mrs Green Grass: I bought a prenatal yoga dvd. I've done it, like, 3 times. I am just so wiped when I get home from work, and there is no way in hell I'm getting up any earlier than I already do. I really need to push myself to do it more, because I think it will help a lot with my tailbone and back pain.
@dagret: I was a TMI baby! I was born on 3/31, just a few days after the near meltdown! My mom was about ready to hit the Turnpike and drive to Pittsburgh when she started laboring! And Hubs and I are a Steelers/Boys house divided. It would bother me if LO ends up being a Ravens fan, but it might kill me if he ends up an Eagles fan! Ha ha.
grapefruit / 4235 posts
@eiko2010: that's crazy! Glad she wasn't in the middle of nowhere on the turnpike when her labor started! I can see tmi from the end of our road.
I have been soo sick with a cold over the past three days. Our dw was clean and sink was full of dishes before I finally had to ask my husband to empty it. You would think he gave me a kidney the way he's acting right now. Ugh. this from a man who expects me to wait on him hand and foot when he has the sniffles. This is the worst cold I've had in years.
honeydew / 7504 posts
@dagret: Oh, no! Why are boys such weenies when they get sick, but they expect us to carry on like normal when we are? Hope you feel better soon!
grapefruit / 4235 posts
@eiko2010: Thanks. I feel pretty good today but I peed myself while i was blowing my nose for the first time today...I posted about it in another thread, but ironically, i was watching Billy Madison and it was right after the "accident" scene ended.

I had a cold last week. Must be part of this season of pregnancy??
As far as exercising goes, I've been staying active but haven't really had a routine because we've been moving/travelling a lot and I had whooping cough for a bit. I was doing the Prenatal Fitness Fix DVD I got from a library for a while. My ankle which I injured years ago has been really killing me lately, so I started going to PT, but it makes it tough to do things like walking. I have a low lying placenta which makes my husband nervous about biking. Today I went swimming at the gym we're joining, but it gave me heartburn!! So it'll probably keep being a mish mash of what I can handle that day.
persimmon / 1165 posts
Wish me luck, I have my 20 week appt today! Does anyone else get nervous before an appt? I mean, I feel like everything is fine, it's just that I know if something were wrong, I'd find out at an appt ... I'm always a little anxious right before one.
It helps that I'm feeling the boys kick every day now, but sometimes I can't tell which one is kicking, or if both are kicking like they should!
I'll find out today if I get to have one more monthly appt, or if they're moving me to biweekly appts after this one.

love reading everyone's updates! and i hope people recover from their illnesses soon!
How far along/EDD: 21 weeks, 1/20/13
Total Weight Gain: don't know--i've managed not to look at the scale when i'm at the doctor's office
Stretch Marks: not yet
Gender: boy boy boy!
Names Picked: we toss out a lot of names, but haven't created a "short list"
Nursery: we're moving this weekend to a new apartment, so we haven't started yet
Birth Plan: i'd like to labor at home and go without meds as long as possible, but i should qualify that by saying that i am all for meds and i have a low pain tolerance
How long are you taking off: 3 months, i think
Milestones: think i felt some kicking
Struggles: clothes. i have 3 things to wear to work and have been having a hard time buying maternity clothes because i want to buy them for super cheap
What are you most fearful/concerned about: mrs. wagon's post on mastitis today has me all worried about boob health if i end up breastfeeding
What are you most excited about: i love the kicking, and want to feel more
Random fact about you: i found out about the pregnancy when i went to the ER (for a non-pregnancy reason) and after they did a blood test, the doctor came in and said "so, did you not know you were pregnant when you came in today?"
grapefruit / 4923 posts
@Mrs Green Grass: i have some prenatal yoga/exercise dvds that i try to do twice a week, but i my thoughts of keeping up with cardio/running have really tanked.
@eiko2010: congratulations on your sister's news!
honeydew / 7504 posts
@edelweiss: Uh, yeah, Mrs. Wagon's post today terrified me. Also, that's kind of how my sister found out she was pregnant! She was at the Gyn discussing her lack of periods (she went off the pill in Nov and has had 3 periods since!). The Gyn told her she wanted to rrun a bunch of blood tests, but decided to do a pregnancy test first. A few minutes later, she came back and said, "Well, you're pregnant!"
@sunshineandsushi: Good luck! Come back and let us know how it goes!

Anyone else getting heartburn yet? Mine started yesterday and it seems like it may be here to stay. I woke up with it this morning! BOOO!!!! I was really hoping it would hold off a little bit longer.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts
@eiko2010: i was getting it almost every day around 3:00 but it has stopped and wasn't too bad to begin with. i'd never had heartburn before ! I'm sure it will come back for me!

question - has everyone decided how they will feed their baby? formula, nursing, pumping????
i'm still thinking about it. i'm going to give nursing a true shot but not beat myself up if it doesn't work for us.
honeydew / 7504 posts
@coacheswife123: That gives me hope! Hopefully this will go away for a bit again.
I'm really hoping that bf'ing works for us. I probably will be the mom who beats herself up if it doesn't work. Only because I want it to so badly. I do plan to introduce bottles (of pumped breastmilk) fairly soon so that Hubs can get some quality time in with him (and also so he can take a few night feedings!). Once we get the hang of breastfeeding, we'll slowly introduce bottles.
pineapple / 12793 posts
@eiko2010: My heartburn is terrible! I've never had it pre-preg and now I wake up from it just about every night. Yuck! I keep a bottle of Tums on the nightstand now.
@coacheswife123: I plan to nurse and might introduce a bottle to get DH to take over a few feedings. With my year of mat leave I hope to make it the full year of EBF.
@sunshineandsushi: Good luck today! I just love ultrasound days! I wish I could look at our little girl everyday.
@edelweiss: Crazy how you found out! How far along were you?
pomegranate / 3643 posts
@eiko2010: I have it AWFUL. It's woken me up because I threw up a little and choked on it in the middle of the night. SO GROSS. I even get it after water sometimes.
We put our bed up on blocks. I sit straight up after eating. I started taking Pepcid AC because my doctor told me too. I have been taking Tums Smoothies (so good!). I already can't eat anything that's a heartburn trigger because of other reasons. It's helped some. Also laying on my right side at night helps for some reason.
pineapple / 12053 posts
@coacheswife123: i plan on breastfeeding and pumping when i go back to work. i also want to get into a groove pumping and using bottles even though i won't have to for a while after LO is born, but don't want to start trying to bottle feed when my mom is watching her and i'm gone for a wedding all day! also, like @eiko2010 i want to DH to be able to help out and have that time with her!
@edelweiss: that's crazy how you found out you were pregnant!
pomegranate / 3643 posts
@coacheswife123: I definitely want to nurse. I don't want to opt out too easily, but I don't want to beat myself up if it doesn't work. I know breast is best, but a fed baby is really best, you know?? I have inverted nipples so I am expecting it might be a little tough.
But I'm looking forward to the bonding, getting to keep my calorie intake up, losing weight, and hopefully giving baby some good health benefits.
I'm really excited that breastfeeding support is covered under Obamacare now - rental pumps and lactation consultants.
honeydew / 7504 posts
@jedeve: I just found a coupon for Tums, so I'll be picking some up tonight! Funny, I also woke up a few times last night feeling like I might puke. Wonder if that's why?
GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts
@oliviaoblivia: i'm jealous of your year of maternity leave!!
I am really hoping it works for us. I have a pump and plan on pumping some bottles, as well.. Right now my goal is to give our little guy breastmilk for at least the first 3 months, then revisit once I go back to work. Fingers crossed!
persimmon / 1165 posts
As usual, I worry for nothing! My appt went very well and both babies are ahead of schedule by almost a week. They've shifted and are both head down right now, all four of their feet are right where I've been feeling kicks for the past couple weeks, haha!
They are starting me at biweekly appointments now, standard procedure for how they handle twins. But, everything is looking great.
Sometimes I worry myself about how much I worry.
pineapple / 12793 posts
@coacheswife123: To be honest, mat leave and healthcare were big factors in us moving to Canada from the States.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts
@oliviaoblivia: i do not blame you . I'll get 12 weeks and I know I need to be thankful for that but I'm already knowing it will fly by!
pineapple / 12793 posts
@coacheswife123: One of my IRL friends had her baby the first week of August and is back to work today. She wasn't eligible for FMLA and her boss wouldn't guarantee her job if she stayed out longer than six weeks. It's just not a nice way to treat families. I'd love to move home, but we're going to wait until we are done having kids.
12 weeks should be the minimum not a luxury. I'm in awe of the ladies who make that work.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts
@oliviaoblivia: bless her heart - that is horrible! I absolutely agree with what you say about 12 weeks should be the minimum and not a luxury. Its amazing to see what other countries offer for PAID maternity leave. The US is getting it all wrong!

I am so glad to see all these updates. and that everyone is doing so great!!!!!
I have been a little distant recently because I have been so stressed and just Blah! I am trying so hard not to be stressed and not to worry too much to stress out me and baby, but I am just so freaked out about work. I wont know for another month if I will have a job after Dec 1st. It really has me down. Ugh!
cherry / 175 posts
@eiko2010: my heartburn just started too and it sucks! I had it with my 2nd pregnancy but it didnt start until the 8th month. This is awful!
I want to EBF this time around. Last time my milk didnt come in for 2 weeks and then my son wouldnt latch, so I pumped about 75% of his food for 5 months and really beat myself up about it. I am hoping my milk comes in sooner and it works about better this time, but I quickly learned that my now almost 3 year old son is healthy and happy even though he did get some formula and we have a great bond even if we didnt breastfeed. So whatever happens, happens.
pomegranate / 3643 posts
@oliviaoblivia: @coacheswife123: I've had a lot of trouble finding a job because I'm pregnant. In Montana you need to work for a year before you qualify for FMLA and the state government (where I'd want to work since I am in public health) you have to work for 6 months before you get anything, and they aren't flexible. Since baby comes in 4 months, that's obviously not happening! It really sucks that you are "protected" because a business can't not hire you because you're pregnant, but it's so easy for them to make up another excuse or just say they can't offer you maternity leave, so you end up quitting or getting fired. It's terrible!
pomelo / 5628 posts
My heartburn has been a bit better this last month, but I also try to avoid most foods that cause it. I'm just using Tums Smoothies to deal with it.
I definitely want to breastfeed, but I hope it works. My sister has only been able to produce about half the supply she needs and she's pumping exclusively so it's time-consuming and stressful for her.
Thanks for the exercise advice. I've been way more motivated (since I tried on a pair of shorts that didn't fit) and I'm feeling better about it. I also have so much more energy than I did before...it's crazy!
GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts
@Rescuemom10: Oh, I am so sorry! Worrying will not make it any better but I do know that doesn't make it easier not to Prayers for you!
pear / 1965 posts
@jedeve: This is my fear right now. I am so upset and trying so hard not to get too "down" about it. My job tech ends on Dec ist and I am sue end of Jan. I know companies cant not hire you because you are PG but like you said..I am afraid they will find another "reason" or just not want me until after baby. Regardless WA is some ways the same I will have been working with a company (assuming I get hired on with the company trhat takes over my contract) for less than a year and will not have the FMLA benefits.
Ahhhh I am so stressed and upset over this. GRRRRRRR!!!

How far along/EDD: 22w2d Jan 12
Total Weight Gain: 9-10lbs
Stretch Marks: none
Gender: GIRL!
Name: No idea. Middle name will probably be after my Grannie, whom I miss terribly -- JoAnn.
Nursery: We haven't done much. Need to buy some furniture soon. The room is already a nice baby-friendly shade of green, so we're planning on leaving that. We have DH's great grandmother's rocking chair that needs to be refinished.
Birth Plan: Labor at home until I can't take it, then off to the hospital. Probable epidural. I'm a go with the flow kind of gal.
How long are you taking off: 12 weeks
Milestones: Finding out the gender was pretty amazing. I've been feeling her move around for a while. Not "kicks" yet, but lots of flutters and itchy feelings.
Struggles: Holy heartburn, Batman. I have Tums everywhere - bedroom, bathroom, living room, car, work, etc. Sleeping is getting a bit uncomfortable.
What are you most excited about: We get another ultrasound in 2 weeks, so I'm excited for DH to get to see her moving around. He was out of town for work last time, so I'm really looking forward to both of us being there.
grapefruit / 4235 posts
@jedeve: hope you feel better!
@sunshineandsushi: Glad your appointment went well!
@jedeve @Rescuemom10: I hope you ladies find some stable long term work. It's rough out there. DH has been through some bouts of unemployment and it is not fun. That said, no FMLA isn't the worst thing. I work for a small business -about 30 employees- and I don't get FMLA. It has to be a shock to expect to be able to count on them and have the rug pulled out from under you, but you will find a way to make it work.
I'm 20 w 4 d, but starting to feel some movement, not just flutters. I don't know what he was doing the other night - it felt like his feet were in my cervix or something, like he was stretching as big as he could - like his hands were at the top of my uterus. Nit that i can discern individual body parts yet but it felt so weird.
