@edelweiss: we went to New Orleans. I basically just ate the entire time. It was great!

So we had a scary afternoon/evening yesterday! I wasn't really feeling very well yesterday - nothing I could really put my finger on, I just felt really "off." In fact, I felt kind of off since Monday or Tuesday. I was having those crampy feelings that I posted about the other day, and I just didn't feel well. I attributed it to the fact that baby likes to ram himself up into my ribs and it really hurts my ribs and back. I just thought I was uncomfortable and left it alone. But yesterday I felt really off, and especially after lunch. After lunch I thought I just ate too much and was really gassy (it really felt like I just need to fart, excuse my crassness). So I took a walk around the block at work, but while I was walking I just knew something wasn't right. So I got back to my office and asked my coworkers to get a nurse to take my blood pressure. I was feeling dizzy and short of breath, and, again, just...I knew something was wrong. One of the nurses came in and took my BP and it was fine, so I was just going to leave work and go home and rest until my scheduled OB appointment that night. But my coworkers convinced me to go to the PETU (Perinatal Eval and Treatment Unit) to get checked out.

They took me down and made sure I got settled in. The nurses put a monitor on me to measure the baby's heartrate and another one to track what was going on with my uterus. I just hung out for a bit, until about an hour later, the nurse came in to take some blood and hang IV fluids. Turns out, I was having contractions - about once a minute! The doctor did a speculum exam and took some swabs, and then she also did a cervical exam to make sure my cervix was closed - it was. OH, having those exams while contracting?! Not. Fun.

One of the blood test they did (the fft) was to predict whether or not I would go into pre-term labor within the next few days, and that came back negative. All the other blood work came back negative, and they gave me 2 liters of IV fluids and the contractions slowed down enough that they were ok with discharging me. Hubs and I left around 9pm. I rescheduled my appointment with my OB for today, since the doctor yesterday told me to take the day off today and rest.

Diagnosis was that I was probably dehydrated. So PLEASE, ladies, make sure you're staying well hydrated!!!

    Lots of updates...I've been slacking!

@Andrea: Congrats on passing your glucose test!

@Kffw: great ultrasound picture - and congrats on passing the glucose test!

@Rescuemom10: good luck with the job...and the arrangements to go home!

@Mrs Green Grass: Saw your update. Thinking of your little family all the time!

@allison: Some of the weight gain could be water weight...if you're eating out, chances are there's a LOT more sodium in that food than you're used to.

@oliviaoblivia: That is an amazing 3D shot!

@Jumpingjacks: me! 26 weeks tomorrow and my back is starting to ache at the end of the day. And last night was really uncomfortable - he was pushing out with his butt or back and up with his feet, I think? it was pretty uncomfortable.

@birdofafeather: no idea what I'm going to be yet! We actually have a Halloween/Gender Reveal party for our friends in a few weeks...They are due at the end of March.

    @Thencomeslife: congratulations & welcome!

@eiko2010: That is so scary. Glad you and your LO is OK! I've had a few days where I've had headaches from hell from not drinking enough water. It seems to easy to let yourself get dehydrated.

I also felt just weird for the entire week before I was hospitalized. I even went to get a urinalysis the day before because I just felt off. Trust your guts girls and don't be afraid to go to L&D! (You also might want to find out where to go now. I was walking around bawling and bleeding with no idea where to go...)

@edelweiss: @shoemama: @Mrs Green Grass: @Jumpingjacks: @dagret: @Kffw: @coacheswife123: @oliviaoblivia: @Andrea: Thanks, ladies! Feeling better today. Still getting the cramps, but I saw my OB today and she says those are regular Braxton Hicks. They must have "progressed" to regular contractions due to the dehydration. She said a real contraction would feel more like my uterus is balling up and my stomach would feel hard, which is what I was starting to feel yesterday. She said if I feel those again, if I have more than 3-4 in an hour, I need to call the office to get checked out. But given all my blood work yesterday was negative, she is reassured that I am not at risk for preterm labor. I'm ok to return to my normal life, just have to make sure I stay hydrated and don't push myself.

@Andrea: Ha ha. I was so hungry after my glucose test, I had a bagel for breakfast. There was literally nothing else in the cafeteria by the time I gave the 2nd set of bloodwork.

Well, last night was pretty eventful. I had my first Braxton-Hicks contractions (which I did not enjoy). Decided to go to bed early. Then proceeded to wake up EVERY HOUR, on the hour, to pee. At some point I had a dream that I was driving over potholes -- woke up and the baby was kicking me (that part was funny). Then at 6am I woke up, screaming, with a Charlie Horse in my calf. I think my husband thought I was dying. It was dramatic. How much longer do we have?!

I replied a couple days ago but I guess it got munched!

@eiko2010: scary stuff! Glad you're okay now! I'd had almost pees in my pants for the last couple weeks. I am glad I'm not the only one!

I went to my doc last week and I passed my glucose screen so that's good! Almost 28 weeks so that's 3rd trimester, which seems crazy to me! Where did the time go?!

I'm on every 2 week appts now which I thought wouldn't be until 32 weeks. I'm finding that I don't have a lot of questions at my appts because everything has been normal, on track, and i do a lot of research online or reading books, etc. Am I missing out on not asking more questions? Do you ladies get a lot of information at your appts or ask questions?

  25. Andrea

GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts

@birdofafeather: yay for passing glucose! 2 week appts already? that is kind of a pain. yeah, unless there is a blood test to do, I don't have any questions at my appointments either. I think that is a good thing. It means an uneventful pregnancy?

I got MAJOR cramps yesterday (no tightening of the belly though) so I'm trying to stay hydrated! I really felt awful, though. I was wondering if the baby was turning? I feel like she is in a weird position now.

    Have your babies turned yet?

  26. littlebug

    honeydew / 7504 posts

@birdofafeather: I start biweekly appointments next week (29w 4d). I hardly ever have questions at my appointments. My time with the doctor usually lasts maybe 10 minutes, if that. For the most part, my pregnancy has been pretty normal (save for last week, obviously), so I haven't had anything crop up that needs extra attention. Luckily, on the few occasions when I do have questions, the doctors do take the time to answer, so that's reassuring.

@Andrea: I have no idea if he's turned or what position he's in. At my last ultrasound, he was head-down, but that was at 25 weeks, when he still had plenty of time to flip around a few times. Friday night, I was definitely feeling something hard up at the top of my stomach, but I'm not sure whether it was his head or his butt. Hard to say!

Anyone know when you start having conversations about birth plans and all that good stuff? Hubs hasn't been coming to my appointments because they're so quick, but eventually I guess he'll need to start coming so we can have these discussions with the doctors. And when do you guys take your childbirth classes (if you are)? Ours is all day, Sat 11/17. At the end of the class, we go on the hospital tour. That puts me at 32 weeks.

  27. Andrea

GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts

@eiko2010: my doc never asked me about a birth plan last time. He doesn't really ask me anything other than "How are you feeling?". All I knew was that I wanted an epidural! I can't remember when I took the classes last time but I think everyone was around 34 weeks or so.

@eiko2010: I've had this - it was a cough, though, and I was at work. JOY! We also just finished our childbirth classes. I found the postpartum class to be the most informative - it was good to hear what to expect those few days after birth! We have a breastfeeding class tomorrow then we are done with classes!

@birdofafeather: every appt my doc says "what questions do you have for me" and I just stare back and say "ummmm nothing??" haha! You aren't alone! I'm about to start having appointments every 2 weeks, as well. time is flying!

  29. Kffw

    grape / 89 posts

@eiko2010: we are doing a weekend birthing class and hospital tour Nov. 17 too!

Are your hospital birthing classes and breastfeeding classes free? It is $120 for the birthing and $40 for the breastfeeding at my hospital.

I have joined the pee your pants party a few weeks ago. Coughs, sneezes and Sometimes my belly just puts so much pressure on my bladder that I don't have any control (just droplets). It is so annoying! Glad I'm not alone!

  30. pl0508

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts

@Kffw: ours are free if you have done your pre admission for the hospital. 25.00 per class if you arent, so that would be a total of 100.00 for the 3 childbirth classes and 1 breastfeeding. Luckily, we already did our pre admission!

Oh - anyone had to go up in underwear size? I bit the bullet and bought a 7 pack of cheapies the other day and I was in heaven!!

  31. oliviaoblivia

    pineapple / 12793 posts

@coacheswife123: I'm still wearing my pre-preg underwear but I'm getting to the point where they are uncomfortable. I usually wear boy shorts and they fold and bunch under my bump. I definitely need to go find some new ones.

@Andrea: Baby girl is head down and I can touch her bum just above my belly button. Love her little heiny! I'm hopeful that she stays down.

@Kffw: Our hospital classes are $150 for a two day course.

I'm 29 weeks now and instead of every two weeks my doc is having me do every three for appts now. weird. I'm kind of relieved though, I rarely ever have questions and everything has been pretty text book normal so far.

  32. littlebug

    honeydew / 7504 posts

@Kffw: Our childbirth class is $105, breastfeeding is $30, and newborn care is $30. I have to check with my insurance to see if any of them are reimbursable. I think the childbirth class might be, and I'm pretty sure the breastfeeding class is.

ETA: I just checked with my insurance company and they will reimburse up to $50 for any classes. They will also reimburse for a lactation consultant postpartum, up to $150! Definitely check into your insurance, ladies!

@Andrea: I think he's lying transverse right now because he kicks at opposite ends of my stomach all the time. But I'm only 26 weeks so he still has plenty of time and room to move.

@birdofafeather: I don't have questions either and always think i should come up with some!

@eiko2010: I haven't started any birthplan discussions...My placenta still might be low (getting it checked again Wednesday) so I figured there was no point in starting down that path in case I end up with previa and a C-Section.

My childbirth class is Nov 2/3 - I'll be 28 weeks, which is early, but it's literally the only time that worked for us between now and my EDD. I have to schedule a hospital tour separately. The classes cost $100 and I'm doing a BF class through a crunchy granola parenting center in mid-December - it was $40.

@coacheswife123: I haven't bought new bigger undies yet but I did buy some Gap maternity undies. SO much more comfortable. And this weekend i bought some bra extenders and some nursing bras. My biggest bras were 34 B's - the nursing bras I bought were 38C's. I bought ones that fit with the bands and straps as tight as they go.

I have an ultrasound (the check for placenta previa I mentioned above) AND the 2 hour GD test 1st thing Wednesday AM...wish me luck!

  34. littlebug

    honeydew / 7504 posts

@coacheswife123: I haven't bought any new ones yet, but I really should. I'm going to Target tonight, so maybe I'll take a look. I haven't done anything with bras yet. So far I'm just living in the Coobie bras I bought, but eventually I'm going to need to buy nursing bras. I'm anxious to see how big my boobs are now - I haven't worn a fitted bra since about 10 weeks! Destination Maternity is still having their nursing sale (buy 3 get 1 free) until the 30th, and I should take advantage, but part of me wants to hold out for Holiday sales...

  35. dagret

@eiko2010: I bought bra extenders at Target that won't fit any of my VS bras, FYI.

Macy's is having the same buy 3 get 1 free sale on ANYTHING maternity.

My jellybean is still breech. I'm 29 weeks and back to the doc on Friday. I've been on weekly on two week visits since the first week of October after my bed rest scare.

I've had the peeing problem, sneezes are the worst. I don't leave the house without a panty liner.

We have our second childbirth class of two on Wednesday evening. Our hospital tour is Saturday. I would like to work in a baby-care and breast feeding class. Our class was $130 thru my doctor.

    @Andrea: @eiko2010: @coacheswife123: glad i'm not the only one!

i am taking a hypnobirthing crash course mid-november for a couple hours with DH because it's literally the only time we will have time and be in the same space before december and i really don't want to schedule anything on the weekend during those months because they are already busy! it's $75 for 2 hours and she's sent handouts and audio tracks already for us to review. i'm also taking a $25 breastfeeding class through my hospital and i've convinced my mom to come down and join me since DH will be in class. we do our hospital orientation in mid november as well.

a lot of the time i think she's either head down (i can feel what seems to be a heel) or sideways because she really likes to party at night by hitting both sides of my belly at once. unless she's doing the splits (is that possible?!) i'm going with her hands and feet are doing jumping jacks.

in other news, i peed on my hand a little after a bathroom visit. i thought i was done, but my body had other plans.
