@pinkb: I feel your pain. I actually had to do the 3 hr b/c I got a 130 as well. It sounds like our doctors follow a stricter set of guidelines. Boooo.

@eiko2010: Love the socks. I have to wear them all the time, I call them my sexy socks to DH. But for me they do really make a big difference.
@coacheswife123: @Andrea: thanks ladies. I am so not looking forward to 4 blood draws. There has been only one girl at the lab that it doesnt hurt or leave a bruise. I think I am gonna ask for an appointment when she will be there.
Just a sucky couple days. Found out my sister cant make it down to FL for the baby shower she is suppose to be throwing on Nov 24 so we have to move it to the 2nd week of December. The control freak in me is telling me I wont have enough time after it to get everything together we will still need even though I know that is not completely true. I just hate when plans change, for anything, and now I have to try and work it out at work to get different days off and make sure the meeting room they were letting us borrow for free will be avail. And that postpones putting the nursery together cause my dad was coming to town to help move the furniture and put the crib together and he is bringing over the dresser/ changing table. So all of it gets pushed to the middle of December. Ugh, and all these hormones just make me wanna cry.

@pinkb: Boo to taking the 3-hour! I'm sure you'll pass.
I totally hear you on delaying the shower. Ours won't be until well after baby girl gets here. My parents bought us her nursery set but can't bring it or set it up until they come for her birth. Right now our nursery is just an empty room, and will be that for a while.
I'm sure everything will work out ok in the end for you. Even if it doesn't get finished before your due date, babies don't need too much when they first get here.

@pinkb: good luck with your 3 hour test. Maybe you can ask for a butterfly needle? My veins are small and deep and I usually ask them to use the butterfly when I can see they're nervous about it. I'm sorry about your shower plans changing...pregnancy hormones sure do a number on us, huh?

My dr's office didn't call me about the results from my test yesterday so I had pizza for lunch. They don't call unless the results are bad.

@Jumpingjacks: That sounds like a brilliant idea. I may have to look into it. Is it covered by your insurance?

@pinkb: Boo to the 3-hour test! But you're right on the border, so I'm sure you'll pass with flying colors! And sorry about having to change the shower date. I don't handle change like that very well, either, especially now. I regularly send myself into a full panic about how much I feel like we have to do in what feels like such a short amount of time.

@eiko2010: Most of the cost is covered for me. I think I only have to pay $15. per visit out of pocket, so for me it's well worth it.

i had my first baby shower yesterday! it was so amazing and fun and i felt so so much love! it was a book theme and we decorated onesies and had amazing food. now i just have to figure out where we're going to put all this stuff!

ETA: photos of the shower. this is the onesie i made and a print that was up at the shower:

my mom took the cloth diapers and clothes to her house to wash because our washer is teensy and it would take me years to pre-wash them 6 times! yikes!

    how were your weekends?

    honeydew / 7504 posts

@birdofafeather: Aw, so glad you had a good shower! I love the idea of decorating onesies - I think I'm going to do that for my sister's shower!

How is everyone doing with Hurricane Sandy (those of you in her path)? Hubs and I are hunkered down at home - both out of work today and probably tomorrow. Wind has significantly picked up in the past couple hours, and it's only going to get worse! So far we still have electricity, and hopefully it'll stay on! Hope you're all doing ok!

@pinkb: how did your test come back?

My only news is the crop of stretch marks I'm growing under my belly. Ugh.

  14. allison

    pear / 1895 posts

@oliviaoblivia: I don't think I have any stretch marks yet, but I know they're coming. I keep getting husband to check under my belly (bc I obviously can't see under there anymore).

It weirds me out that I can't see parts of my body that I could see 2 months ago.

@birdofafeather: the onesie is so cute! glad you had such a nice shower.

@oliviaoblivia: @allison: i didn't even think to check under the belly. i try not to look too hard because i know i'll find them. i've been putting shea butter on my belly even though i know nothing will prevent them, but it makes me feel better anyway!

    happy halloween everyone!

@littlebug: hope your electricity stayed on! we've been without power for two and half days so far. they say that it will take one week to restore our power but i am hopeful that it will be sooner since the main road by us is slowly getting power back. hopefully they can do some residential streets soon. if it is back by the weekend, i will be really pleased!

    @pinkb: CONGRATS!!!

    @allison: good luck!!

  23. littlebug

    honeydew / 7504 posts

@Andrea: We are also still without power. We lost it around 9:30pm on Monday. Thankfully, we still have hot water, so I was at least able to take a hot shower a couple of times, though we're majorly conserving. I had a total meltdown yesterday, but am feeling better today. We have a wood-burning stove in our family room, so we've been sleeping on our pullout down there to have some warmth, but I can't do another night on that because it's not at all supportive and my hips are KILLING me today - I'm waddling, and it's not because of pregnancy! Hope yours comes on soon! Good luck!

@pinkb: Yay for passing the glucose test! Our trick-or-treat was postponed till Saturday due to the storm, but we won't be home, so as far as I'm concerned, that's mine now! I hadn't even thought about the holidays - that would be terrible!

@birdofafeather: I didn't see the pictures the last time I looked. The onesie is adorable, and I LOVE the Keep Calm sign! May have to steal that for my sister's shower.... (c:

I had my 30-week appointment last night (30 weeks today, ohmygodhowdoweonlyhave10weeksleft!). Baby is head down, so hopefully he stays that way. Fundal height is right around 30, so I'm measuring right on track!

Quick question for you guys. The left side of my uterus had been pretty sore since last night, I think it has come and gone in the last few weeks but last night and today have been pretty bad. It is located on my left side (just a smidge lower than the belly button) It mostly bothers me while standing and moving around. Do you think this is just normal growing/ stretching? I think it would be too high for the round ligament pain. The bean is still moving just as much as usual and there is nothing else out of the ordinary, so I am not worried but just wondering.

    @littlebug: @Andrea: @birdofafeather: @shoemama: @allison: @edelweiss: Thanks!

@pinkb: I had something just like this last night! I think I pulled a muscle trying to cross my legs. It really hurt when I moved my leg, even though the pain was more in my belly. It's better today.

  26. littlebug

    honeydew / 7504 posts

@pinkb: I've been having sharp pains in about the same place. I think it's round ligament pain or something like that.

    So....we have hardly anything ready.

We don't have space for a nursery, so we aren't doing that. My DH's family keeps saying they are going to do a baby shower, but that hasn't happened yet. I think it's supposed to be Thanksgiving weekend. But now my MIL says she wants to wait until after the baby comes so we will know the sex and people will know what to buy. Our parents have said they wanted to each make a "big" purchase for us - like stroller or crib. But that hasn't happened yet either. We've gotten a few onesies and gift cards from my side of the family.

So should we just start buying stuff ourselves? Everyone always says stuff like "oh, don't buy clothes - people will give you so much!" But that hasn't really happened yet! I don't want to spend a lot of money on stuff that we end up getting duplicates of.

When should my deadline be? I figure anything we don't have by December I should purchase, but it makes me nervous to wait that long!

@pinkb: congrats!!! and I have had RLP on my sides- I think it is probably just normal growing/stretching. If it continues, ask your doc!

@jedeve: all of our showers are in November so if we don't get what we need by then I'm going to start buying!!!

We had our 4D ultrasound today and our little man did not want to cooperate. He had his face in my placenta almost the whole time! We did find out some good things though: he is head down, he weighs 3lbs 2oz, and he is in the 86th percentile for his size but his femur bones are in the 94th percentile for their length - gonna be tall like his daddy! We are having another 4D (free) at my appt next week since we only got one picture of his face this time. I hope he cooperates but it was also good to see him comfy and cozy in there!!

  29. allison

    pear / 1895 posts

@jedeve: We don't have anything, really, either. We have a crib and a few other things (bouncy seat, backpack) that we got as hand-me-downs, but that's it! We're assuming our parents will give us "big" gifts, but no one has actually said they were. I think being due so close to Christmas is a big part of it -- maybe they're saving the purchases to be Christmas gifts? We probably won't buy anything ourselves until January... which means I might be shopping on Amazon Prime while I'm in labor! We'll see.

  30. edelweiss

    grapefruit / 4923 posts

@jedeve: we don't really have anything either. our shower is in mid-december, but i don't plan on waiting to get some of the bigger ticket items. i'm going to go ahead and get the crib, and go to a baby consignment sale for things like the stroller and bassinet. i'll probably be like @allison: and end up furiously buying things on amazon prime at the last minute.

@littlebug: ugh, still no power? that sucks--i hope it comes back on soon (or already has)!

  31. edelweiss

    grapefruit / 4923 posts

@littlebug: i forgot to ask, and this is a dumb question, but how can they tell that the head is pointing down? is it an ultrasound or do they feel the belly, or...? 10 weeks, eeee!!!

  32. allison

    pear / 1895 posts

@jedeve: @edelweiss: Does BRU do Black Friday sales?? I mean, not that I would go to the store and risk my life or anything. But maybe order online (isn't Cyber Monday a thing, or am I making that up?).

  33. pinkb

    pear / 1599 posts

@jedeve: We dont have anything done in the nursery yet. But we have been gifted the crib, it is sitting in our garage waiting till the 24th to be put together. I have been buying a lot of clothes off the clearance racks everywhere and a few things off etsy but have decided to stop and concentrate on other necessity things. I found a great deal on the matress we wanted at BRU so I got that last week, $50 bucks off! GO me We are having our carpet replaced in a couple weeks and then my parents will be over the weekend after Thanksgiving to help put the nursery together. They are bringing the dresser, it was free, use to be my sisters So the only big purchases we have left are a recliner and the curtains, I think I am really trying to hold off until our shower, Dec 15, before I start buying other smaller necessities.
I think we have more than what I think. I did buy the stoller and carseat already when Britax had the sale where you get the carseat free with the purchase of the stoller.

@edelweiss: they told me at my u/s today that he was head down- that's the first time I've known exactly what position he is in! as soon as she put the wand on my stomach i said "please tell me what body part of his is in my ribs" ! haha! and she immediately said FEET and his head was down, close to my right hip bone

  35. littlebug

    honeydew / 7504 posts

@jedeve: We have the furniture for the nursery, and some clothing. I also got a swing and an exersaucer ay a consignment sale. Otherwise, we're waiting till my shower (Thanking weekend) to make any other purchases.

@edelweiss: The OB just felt my belly. She said "This lump up here of his butt." She barely pushed, though, it was crazy. I can't believe they can know so easily!

@allison: Someone posted the same question in another board. General consensus is that the baby chains don't really do Black Friday or Cyber Monday sales. And yes, Cyber Monday is totally real, you did not make it up. (c:

@littlebug: Any power yet? Yes, thank goodness for hot water! I know some people who have an electric water heater, ugh, sucks. The only thing making me feel better have been those hot showers. Oh geez, my SIL just posted that she will get power back on 11/9. They live 7 minutes away from us. Man oh man. Sigh. I'm just really glad we are not due to deliver yet!!!

@pinkb: i think the feeling is pretty normal, but next time ask your doc to be sure...as long as the baby is acting normal im sure its fine!

This is our second baby, so we are reusing our crib and dresser and I decided I didn't want a second shower so close to the holidays, so we have been buying mostly everything we need ourselves. We got a new stroller, car seat and new bedding and hopefully my inlaws will buy us a new highchair, but since we wont need that for 4-6 months I'm not stressing...

Has anyone packed their hospital bag??? I know its still early(8.5 weeks until baby is due), but I keep imagining going in to labor and NOT being prepared at all. Am I crazy? With my son I was 2 weeks early, but prepared!
