@shoemama: great news!
@coacheswife123: good luck tomorrow!
I'm super excited because I hired my doula yesterday! She is verrrrrrry cool and I got rave reviews from calling her references. Everyone was so excited to talk to me about her.
Is anyone else hiring a doula?

@Andrea: that's exciting! no i'm having a c section, so no doula is needed

@coacheswife123: mine is tomorrow too - good luck!
@Andrea: i might; i have an u/s tomorrow to check that my borderline previa cleared up, so i haven't really investigated yet.

@Andrea: We've hired a doula as well, and I'm super excited about working with her! We have our first meeting in a few weeks to discuss a birth plan and stuff. I was honestly more picky about the doula I chose than the doctor!
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
@shoemama: it's funny because all the doulas tell you that they are needed during c-sections but I don't quite get spending the money in that case!
@dagret: hope it clears up!!
@allison: ME TOO. I know from last time that my doctor was barely around during labor and it's your support system for all those hours of labor that really makes the difference! I have to write a birth plan, too!

@Andrea: thanks!
Had the ultrasound but the tech didn't really tell me anything. Just had my first blood draw and chugged the orange stuff...

@coacheswife123: @dagret: Good luck today!
@Andrea: I wish we could hire a doula but unfortunately it's just not an expense that we can justify. I've looked into trying to find a doula-in-training, but haven't had much success. Plus, I haven't even mentioned it to Hubs, and I'm not sure he'd be comfortable with it anyway.

@Andrea: We were going to hire a doula and then found out that our birth center has one nurse assigned to each patient for the duration of her labor. I had interviewed a few and didn't click with any one and hope I'll be comfortable with whichever nurse I'm assigned. And DH felt bad that I wasn't going to use him as my coach - he really wants to be my doula.
So I had my GD test last week and haven't heard back. Usually my doc's office is "no news is good news"....has enough time passed that I'm in the clear?!
Any showers coming up ladies?
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
@eiko2010: I didn't have one last time. I think it's just a "nice to have". Most people don't have one!
@oliviaoblivia: That sounds good! I'm at a hospital so I feel like I need the doula to help me achieve my med free birth. You probably passed the GD test if they didn't call you, but I always like to call and double check!
honeydew / 7504 posts
@oliviaoblivia: Yeah, my office is the same, but I usually get too anxious and call anyway.
My shower is the Sunday after Thanksgiving, so I've got a while to go!
pineapple / 12793 posts
@eiko2010: @Andrea: It would be sensible to call, but I just don't want to find out if I have it. I'm living in a happy carb filled bubble right now.
We've postponed my shower. It was suppose to be this Sunday but my grandfather is very sick so instead of going home I'm going to go visit him. I think we'll end up doing a sip'n'see when baby girl gets here. I'm bummed, but I'm happy that I my grandfather can see my big 'ol belly.
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
@oliviaoblivia: eat some carbs and then call them! I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. That is too bad about your shower but the sip'n'see is very exciting. In a way, it's better because everyone can see the baby.
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
How is everyone doing on name picking? I think we have one although the middle name might still change.
pineapple / 12793 posts
@Andrea: thanks. It's been a rough few weeks.
I'm excited that I can show of the baby now, but the practical side of me is bummed that I won't get all the stuff until she is two months old.

@oliviaoblivia: so sorry to hear about your grandfather:( you will be glad you went and spent that time with him, though.
I had my glucose today and passed - such a relief!
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
@coacheswife123: yay!! seems like we are all doing well with that! whew!
GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts
@Andrea: I was so worried about it! But very happy we all seem to be passing! oh! we have our name nailed down, finally. I thought we'd never decide!
grapefruit / 4235 posts
@oliviaoblivia: I'm sorry to hear about your grandpa. You're right though - getting to see him is more important than any shower. My grandma passed away 6 years ago today and I have teared up a few times wishing she could see my baby.
@coacheswife123: Wow, that was quick! Congrats on passing! I won't get my results till tomorrow. I had ice cream last night just in case it was my last chance, and then I had a boiled egg before bed b/c i figured all that sugar was not the best food to end the day with.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts
@dagret: they told me immediately! they put a drop of my blood in some kind of machine that tested my glucose and iron??? I was going to try not to eat this morning so I had a larger dinner and a snack before bed but woke up starving so I scrambled some eggs for bfast. Fingers crossed for your result! I am sure you passed- the nurse who did mine said EVERYONE is always nervous and she rarely has girls not pass!
grapefruit / 4235 posts
@coacheswife123: My practice only does the 2 hour test - not the 1 hour/3 hour combo. It's supposed to be more accurate (My guess is they make more $ doing the 2 hour test than the 1 + 3 combo.)
So they had me fast for 12 hours, then actually drew my blood before, 1 hr after i chugged the stuff and 1 hr after that.
We'll see what happens. my husband's families make big babies normally so GD would definitely be cause for concern, but it's not the end of the world.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts
@dagret: not the end of the world at all! But bless your heart, I do not think I could fast for 12 hrs right now! hoping you pass and don't have to worry with it anymore!
pineapple / 12053 posts
@Andrea: we hired a doula a long time ago! i'm so excited to have someone who i know will be around since DH may be in LA for a hospital rotation when i go into labor!
@oliviaoblivia: sorry to hear about your grandpa. DH and i don't have any grandparents left, and now with LO on the way, it would be nice to have more generation around.
i have my LA shower this sunday which is friends who live up there and all the family. It's going to be huge: 45 people! I'm excited and nervous. I just want to make sure I get to spend time with everyone. I still have nothing to wear, but I'm going to get my nails done with my mom on Saturday and my hair blown out so I feel pretty on Sunday.
pineapple / 12793 posts
@Andrea: We've picked a name that I love. DH and I are keeping it underwraps until she arrives just in case all of a sudden we hate it.
@dagret: I totally couldn't fast for 12 hours at this point. I'm not sure I could fast for three hours.. I'm expecting LO to be big too and it freaks me out. When do you get your results?
GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts
@oliviaoblivia: i'm hoping we get a length and weight measurement at our 3D u/s next week! I think our little guy is going to be big too. He's been measuring ahead this whole time and at our last u/s he was very long. My DH is 6'7" so it sounds like he is taking after his daddy!
grapefruit / 4235 posts
@coacheswife123: @oliviaoblivia: The fasting wasn't that bad actually. I thought it would be worse.
I should find out tomorrow about the glucose test - they did just call me though, and the placenta has moved away from the cervix, so yay!
pineapple / 12793 posts
@coacheswife123: Whoa! Tall hubby you got there! I hope for your sake that you are either really tall or have wide birthing hips. DH and I were both big babies - I was 9lbs9oz and DH was 9lb3oz. DH actually broke his mom's tailbone on the way out. Birth should be exciting for me. :-O
@dagret: Great news that your placenta has moved! What a relief!

@oliviaoblivia: Sorry to hear about your Grandfather but glad you can spend that time with him.
Sounds like everyone is doing pretty good. I am going home Nov 15-20. My mom and Aunt are throwing me a shower for family. Mine out where I live in WA is not until Dec 1st.
How is everyone feeling? My hips and muscles around my hips have been KILLING ME for about 3 weeks. I am staying active, I stretch MANY times a day, and it still is just brutal. Anyone else?
GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts
@oliviaoblivia: Haha he is so tall. I'm average - 5'5"! oh my gosh your poor mother in law - for your sake I hope that your baby doesn't break your tailbone!!! Can't wait to read your birth story - haha!

@Rescuemom10: I'm with you on the hips and walking down six floors of an office building for a fire drill didn't help me today.
My first shower is November 3rd.
@oliviaoblivia: I hope your Grandpa's health improves.
I'm glad I passed my GD test as I was a big baby and my sister has had big babies. I was 9 pounds 12oz and my nephew was 9 pounds 11oz.
honeydew / 7504 posts
@coacheswife123: Yay! Great news! Also, 6'7"?! Holy moly!
@Rescuemom10: My hips are sore in the mornings. My biggest complaint is back pain. I've been having this pain in my upper back and shoulder blade area for weeks, and just this week the lower back pain started. I also am starting to get puffy, so I had one of the nurses give me a pair of compression stockings this morning. They're super hot!
@dagret: So glad to hear your placenta moved!
GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts
@eiko2010: haha lookin goood! but seriously, i hope they help!
GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts
@eiko2010: Haha!!! update us later if they helped - we may all be in them before this thing is over!
grapefruit / 4235 posts
@shoemama: @birdofafeather: thanks ladies!
@eiko2010: Rowr, don't those make you feel like a MILF?
@Rescuemom10: my hips are starting to hurt too. And I have to roll out of bed rather than try to sit up half-asleep and with a full bladder.
My first shower is Nov. 10.

It feels like the muscles in my inner thigh are tearing. Just feels like I pulled every muscle around there. Like I said, I stretch many times a day and everything and its still just brutal.
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
@birdofafeather: great! I also wanted a doula in case my husband needs to stay with our 2.5 yo.
@oliviaoblivia: we're keeping our name under wraps, too!
@dagret: great news!
@eiko2010: haha, those are super sexy!
@Rescuemom10: yikes! any chance of getting a prenatal massage?
@kayakgirl73: yay for passing, too!

Well I get to do the 3 hour GD test I just did the test yesterday and she just called. Said they like your number to be under 130 and mine was 130, what bull crap.
Congrats to all the other ladies who have passed!

I have been having lower back pain and my midwife actually told me it can be GREAT to get chiropractic care during pregnancy. She recommended a chiropractor who specializes in prenatal care.
She is AWESOME! She had a model of a woman's pelvis and completely explained to me what happens to it throughout pregnancy and when you give birth. Then she did an assessment of me and showed me how she can improve my pelvis functioning and decrease lower back pain that is caused by the pregnancy. I'm going twice a week now and already my back feels better.
