For some reason, my MIL seems really against buying any clothes for baby. I think it's because we don't know the sex? She's all "but what do I buy?! Pink or blue?!". Um. They DO sell gender-neutral clothing for babies (though it is a bit ridiculous how hard it is to find inexpensive gender-neutral stuff that doesn't have ducks all over it or something). My thing is that, even after we have the baby, I'd prefer things that can be used for future babies. If we have a girl and all I get is pink stuff, I'm going to die.

@allison: We've pretty much banished the pink in our house. I returned every pink thing we got.

@allison: We are team green too, and my MIL said that she wanted to have the shower after the baby came so that we would know the sex. Even though one of the reasons we are team green is a) we don't gendered stuff and b) we don't want just clothes! What do you get for an after the baby is born shower besides clothes??
So now we are just doing it a week before my due date. Maybe she's hoping the baby will be there?

@jedeve: Ugh. So impractical! And having a shower a week before your due date sounds pretty uncomfortable... I hope you're having better moods than I am! I probably won't even go out in public the weeks surrounding my DD.

@allison: We're annoyed about it...but what can you do? You can't complain about someone offering to give you gifts!! (Oh wait, yes, yes I can...)

@shoemama: Woah! Really? How long are you taking?
I hope to work up til my due date.

@shoemama: jealous! I have 4 weeks left on my day job. Last wedding I shoot is on Saturday and I am cranking things out so I'm not stuck last minute with some random task!
I am surprised that I got so many things off our registry as well as some cute clothes (as well as a hideous outfit that was a specialty purchase from my mom's friend and unfortunately was the best looking item these people sold.)
I bought some clothes from gap from the boys department too because they had non-pink striped onesies. But I definitely got pink ones too!

@shoemama: congrats! I hope you enjoy it! I'm super jealous of how long you get to take. i'll be taking 12 weeks and could weep thinking about leaving him. But- I know I need to be grateful I get to take that long!
@jedeve: I'm planning on working up to my DD as well as long as everything is still healthy/normal!

@shoemama: Color me jealous!
I'm planning on working up till i deliver, barring any complications. And I submitted my plan to work - 11 weeks off with a regular delivery, 12 weeks off with a c-section. (You get 6 wks STD with vaginal delivery, 8 weeks (usually) with a c-section.) I am hoping to only have to use half of my PTO and only up to 2 weeks unpaid leave.

I basically took no time when I had my son (I worked from home though), so I really wanted this time with both the kids. We are still figuring out the logistics of if and when I'm going back. My husband still has a year and a half of residency left until he can work on his own as anesthesiologist...so we'll see.

@shoemama: Wow. That is awesome.
I haven't decided yet when I'm going to start my leave. Initially I thought I'd work up till I deliver, but now I'm thinking that I may start the Tuesday or Wednesday before my due date (I'm due on a Thursday). Our work is really strict about taking 12 weeks exactly, and I don't want to have to come back on a Monday - I'd rather come back for a 1/2 week my first week back.

I would love to start leave now! It is getting miserable to sit at my desk! But, I plan to work until the end with a few days off beforey EDD. I just started the job in July so I'm technically not eligible for FMLA leave, but they agreed to give me 12 weeks off (6 paid by STD).

@shoemama: I'm sooooo jealous that you're almost on leave! I have 17 days left of work and I definitely cross them off everyday. can't wait!

12 work days left until my leave starts. I CAN NOT WAIT! Like others, sitting at my desk is becoming very uncomfortable, sometimes painful.
I have been diagnosed with Symphisis Pubis Disfunction. This is excessive movement of my pelvis (due to too much relaxin in my body) and it can become quite painful to walk, stand up from sitting or lying down etc. Fortunately it's not (yet anyway) as bad as it could be. I knew someone who had it and had to stop working and spend her pregnancy on crutches! Fortunately for me I just wince a lot and move extremely slowly. My midwives say it will go away after childbirth.

If I decide to go out on Jan 9 (the day before my EDD), I have 28 days of work left! That sounds good to me!
@dagret: My work didn't say anything to me about STD, but I'm definitely paying in to it and should be qualified to use it. Was there additional paperwork you had to submit? They gave me all the FMLA stuff, but nothing about STD.
@Jumpingjacks: Oh dear! I hope yours doesn't get to that point!

I'm planning on working to the end. I haven't calculated how many work days I have left until my January 7th due date. However, I find out tomorrow if the baby is still breech, if so I'm looking at a scheduled C-section. Bummer but I'd have a definite date.
Baby is extremely active this morning so maybe she flipping, but who knows.

@littlebug: Yes, there are papers that I will need to file. Your HR person or benefits administrator should have them for you!

@kayakgirl73: that's my goal. I wonder howit will work though. I mean, I don't think they are going to want to assign me many projects when I could leave any day?
clementine / 750 posts
@jedeve: I'm not quite sure how it will work, but I'm a law librarian and most of my projects are one or two days i.e. stuff on short deadlines. I also work very closely with another librarian in my office. I'm guessing as I get closer I will try to only take stuff that I can finish by close of business any given day.

17 work days left before i start maternity leave for my day job! one more wedding this weekend and then i'm done photographing anything (besides baby!) until march!

@jedeve: @kayakgirl73: I fully expect to be sitting around twiddling my thumbs the last few weeks. We are usually really slow from Mid-Dec through mid-January anyway.

Well I had my OB appointment yesterday and the baby is still breech. Darn. So it looks like unless she moves, I'm having a scheduled C-Section on December 31st. Not the birth I wanted but what happens happens.

@kayakgirl73: @dagret: I work for a think tank and the legislative session we lobby during starts jan 7th, so it's our super busy time! I wonder if they will just want me out of the way, haha.

@kayakgirl73: you still have time. And if not, it's a great birth date!

@kayakgirl73: baby could still flip for sure...my friends baby just flipped at 38 weeks

@jedeve: that's funny, I work for an advocacy firm but our legislative session doesn't start till mid January!

@kayakgirl73: Definitely still time! My friend said her sister flipped at 37 weeks! Fingers crossed for you!
This weekend we're taking our last trip home before we're on official Baby Watch Lockdown! Can't believe it!!
In the meantime, I caught a horrific cold that I think has now turned into bronchitis. Ugh, I feel awful. I woke up this morning with so much congestion in my chest I couldn't even breathe - I sounded like a baby with whooping cough! I hope it passes quickly.
pomegranate / 3643 posts
@dagret: maybe we will slow down then! This is my first year with them, so I just assume it will be busy. We put out a lot of research reports and stuff, but we're doing most now.
