We went to our first centering midwife meeting yesterday. Has anyone heard of this type of prenatal care? I didn't do it with #1. But its group setting discussion with private time for belly checks and vitals. It wasn't as awkward as I anticipated it being, so I think we will stick with it going forward.
Anywho, I am 18 weeks now and gained 10lbs so far! Which is technically on track with the charting they gave us to track if we wanted to. Our main discussion last night was about nutrition and exercise and I am very cognizant of eating healthy and moving my body. But I also emotionally eat. I am really determined to not put on a ton of weight, but one thing the midwife kept saying that I wanted to share as a reminder is... BE KIND TO YOURSELF.
I heard it in two ways:
1. Give yourself grace if you want a treat, in moderation
2. Fuel yourself with healthy foods and be kind to your body and baby
Good reminder to carry through the next several months.
Also! We booked our anatomy scan for August 13, so we get to find out if this little peanut is a boy or girl!

@honey786: That's pretty cool! Midwife services are getting more popular in my area, but never heard of a group setting like that!

@honey786: I have been lurking, but popped in as I did centering with my third pregnancy. We actually have a reunion for the June 2019 moms next week.
Ours was with a nurse practitioner in a hospital setting. Mostly first time moms, one second, and me with my third. We had a nutritionist, occupational therapist, pediatrician, and several other specialists for a discussion. I did have several individual appointments, mostly because of timing between appointments. Others had additional appointments due to issues with their pregnancy. My biggest issue was the no children. I cancelled one centering appointment as my daughter got sick and my DH couldn't watch her that day.

@Mrs. Toad: thanks for sharing your experience! I had a hunch that daycare would be an issue too. My husband may not always be able to come with me. Luckily my MIL is really helpful, but like you said - illnesses can certainly cause missing a class!

Had another ultrasound to check on some bleeding I had the night before last. All is well with the baby and it's just an SCH. Heart rate is now up to 173.

@Sams Mom: Glad everything looked good. Sorry about the bleeding, how stressful

19 weeks; was wearing a form fitting tshirt and officially had the first random stranger asked me when the baby is due; followed by asking if it was a boy or girl, and upon noting my son who was with me, stating that good, it's best to have one of each.

@Sams Mom: that is so scary, but I’m glad all is well, and you got an extra peek!
@periwinklebee: people ALWAYS have to comment on gender don’t they?!
grapefruit / 4492 posts
@Jessiemuller88: I was surprisingly calm about it, my husband on the other hand was driving me bonkers with all of his googling questions. 🤦♀️🤣
@periwinklebee: stuff like that is one of my main motivators to going team green again. Unsolicited commentary makes me crazy and I usually snap back with a dick response that isn't very flattering.
ETA: baby looks particular blob-ish in this screenshot

@Sams Mom: Glad baby is ok! Bleeding is the WORST.
@periwinklebee: Hahaha well, let the random comments begin!
I am STARVING right now. God knows how much weight I'm going to gain if this is anything to go on!!!
grapefruit / 4466 posts
@Sams Mom: Lol, I would have liked to be team green, but my husband wouldn't go for it. He was just like, nope, no way. oh well 🤷♀️
@jaguar: I find my appetite is all over the place. I've had moments where I'm starving and need *all* the food, right now. And days where food still just sounds gross. Hopefully it balances out!
I need to finalize some details for renovations that we're about to start - this is definitely not something I have the energy for while pregnant It's crazy just how much energy pregnancy sucks from me, all the more with a toddler. But we couldn't really put it off, since the master bedroom is accessed from a separate staircase than the bedrooms where we want to put the kids and we need them connected. The house was otherwise perfect though, so worth it in the long run... Contractor promises it will be done by October, but I know how these things go and worry it will still be underway with a newborn

@periwinklebee: Eeeeek, you're a brave woman! I hope it all goes smoothly.

Hope everyone's weekend went well!
DH has been sick since Saturday morning with what appears to be a stomach virus. I've been using those peroxide wipes that are supposed to kill norovirus nonstop, but am still dreading that I'll end up sick all week (which I've heard is awful during pregnancy) and taking care of a sick toddler to boot...and getting even more behind at work. I think every time I've been sick since DS was born I've ended up simultaneously taking care of a sick kid. Ugh, and I'm sure that will only get worse with two kids... Sometimes I feel like one is already so hard. I found 0 to 1 to be pretty rough, and am hoping to be less overwhelmed with 1 to 2... but we'll see 🤷♀️
On the brighter side, I had my anatomy scan this morning and everything looked normal!!! Relieved!

Baby looks amazing!! I have never seen a scan like this! Sooooo neat

@bhbee: @Jessiemuller88: Thank you
My ob outsources to the high risk ultrasound clinic at a hospital that's across the street, as they don't have their own us facility since it's a satellite clinic. The equipment is pretty awesome!

@periwinklebee: what a perk!! Baby looks soooo cute!! I can’t believe how much detail you can see
grapefruit / 4466 posts
@Jessiemuller88: The us place is probably my favorite thing about my practice. Doctors and techs there are also super nice, which is huge. Before DS I was seeing an RE for a few months - they shared their us clinic with a bunch of other non-OB practices (like orthopedics and stuff), equipment wasn't that great, and some of the techs were not very friendly. This is so much better! I think the detail is even substantially better than a couple of years ago. I almost feel like she looks like DS, but might be imaging it, we'll have to see!

@periwinklebee: I’m glad you are at a place that you like. I LOVE my OB, though she doesn’t have any high tech equipment like this. My group is a 3 woman practice, and everyone there remembers your name and treats you so well.
I’m sure she does look like your DS if you think she does! I love her little hands
I had a horrible dream last night I was leaking amniotic fluid. Now I’m super anxious for my Aug. 21st anatomy scan

@Jessiemuller88: Pregnancy nightmares are the worst
My office only has a few doctors that rotate through there. Last time I chose the popular one, and she was rarely available, so I ended up seeing a different person for each appointment. She left recently, and they reassigned me to the 60 year old male doctor who no one seems to want to see. I've seen him every time as they seem quite keen to fill his schedule The odds of getting someone I've seen for the birth are I think slim in any case, as it's a huge hospital with multiple doctors on shift and I think each doctor may only deliver 1-2 days/week. Last time I had someone who didn't see patients at the office I go to so I'd never met her.

@periwinklebee: so adorable!
I just passed the 12 week mark!! I think I am feeling better, but I've been battling REALLY random ailments, I think my body is broken with the pregnancy! First a random toothache that dentist couldn't find the cause of, and now one of my eye is all red/swollen/tearing, but it's not pink eye... So fun.
I have a scan tomorrow and my lab results are also supposed to be in, so I should know gender!!!

@graceandjoy: eek, so exciting that you will know what you're having soon!!!!
Ugh, sorry about all the random ailments, thanks pregnancy...

@Jessiemuller88: OMG chick, I had a dream where I was bleeding the other day and it's stuck with me ever since. The worst!
@graceandjoy: Eeeek excited for you to find out!

Dr called me yesterday late afternoon, now I know! Waiting till the weekend to do a little reveal for our girls/family, so I’ll report back next Monday

@jaguar: it seems so real, doesn’t it?!
@graceandjoy: how exciting!!!
grapefruit / 4466 posts
@graceandjoy: Yay! I would have loved to do an informal gender reveal, but DH isn't into that kind of thing, immediate family is far away, and LO doesn't get it (hah hah, when I tried to point to my tummy and say baby, he said boobie, lifted up my shirt, and attempted to latch on, lol). Seems like so much fun!
@Jessiemuller88: @jaguar: I had too many pregnancy-related nightmares last time. Knock on wood vivid dreams haven't really been a symptom this time, but perhaps it is still just a bit early, as I'm not waking up much to pee yet. Hope they go away soon!

So I THINK I had my first movement today!!! Kind of a thud, and only a few times... then nothing since. But eeek, I think that was baby girl!!
18+1

@jaguar: Yaaay! This is probably my favorite part of pregnancy!! And you look so cute!!

I think it's actually beginning to look like a bump now, not just weird belly bloat!

@jaguar: I agree, you look so cute! I’m so happy you felt her move! It’s the best!
I started back to work yesterday, teaching SK, and I have never felt more exhausted in my entire life. I don’t know how I’m going to make it to Dec. 20th.

@Jessiemuller88: I'm sorry, that sounds rough! Hopefully things get a bit easier as you adjust back to the new schedule

@Jessiemuller88: Hang in there!!! You've got this xx
It is so cold here at the moment ... but my winter coat is BURSTING at the seams. Guess that belly growth spurt was more noticeable than I thought!
grapefruit / 4466 posts
@jaguar: DS was born in the dead of winter here, we went through a cold spell when I was 9 months where it wasn't above 0 (F, think that's around -18C). I didn't fully button my coat but then got this super thick knitted wool scarf/shawl. Was a lot cheaper than a mat coat! Hoping to make it work this time as well...
Hope things warm up for you soon!
I feel like I'm finally emerging from a haze of feeling like I've had to flu for the past four months. Feeling much more like myself but also realizing - yikes - summer is nearly over and we've done nothing! But DH hasn't been feeling great this past week, so I think summer weekend outings will still have to wait. Hope we can at least squeeze in one or two before it gets cold again!

Has anyone else started having braxton-hicks? I felt a couple last week, and then have had a bunch tonight. I know it's normal, and only mildly uncomfortable, but at this point in pregnancy it makes me paranoid, Have a feeling given that it's started already that it's going to be a fixture of the second half of pregnancy...
