@Mrs. Amethyst: haha having to be active sounds like it would do it to your back!!

@princessandthebee: My doctor typically does the same as irishmom's -- Come in at 6 weeks for bloodwork and ultrasound then again at 8 weeks. I had early bloodwork done this time because I was already seeing my doctor for something else the morning I got my BFP, so she went ahead and decided to monitor my levels. Looking forward to you officially joining us

@Mrs. Amethyst: I declared I needed a pregnancy pillow this morning! My back has been super tight and those pillows just look so darn cozy. I was hoping to hold out till Christmas, but I seriously doubt I'll last longer than this week. Yikes!

Hi everyone, thanks for the warm welcome!! Excited to be here!

EDD: July 27 based on O (July 21 based on LMP but I'd rather go with O at this point)

When Did You Find Out?: 13 DPO, Saturday 11/16

    Child Number: 1

Where You Live: Currently in the Kansas City area but will be moving back to Minnesota (where I'm from) in a few months

What kind of provider will you see?: Someone who gives personalized care, not sure if that's an OB or a midwife yet

When's Your First Appointment?: Well, today actually!

What kind of birth do you want?: Preferably unmedicated for as long as possible but not opposed to an epidural.

What You're Most Excited For: Growing my family! Telling my parents they get to be grandparents (first grandkid on both sides for us)!

What You're Most Scared About: Handling my fear of blood, back pain because I had back surgery in 2011 for a herniated disc, which might give me some issues down the road.

Symptoms so far: Sore breasts, constipation, slight headache some evenings

Follow up question. Back story needed:

The hubby and I moved from Chicago (where we met and fell in love) to Kansas temporarily for his job, signing a 6 month lease on purpose, to wait for him to get his green card. Hubby is from Scotland. Well, now we have the green card so there is nothing keeping us here. He is currently looking for new jobs and we'd like to move to MN ASAP. Lease is up at the end of Jan.

Question: do I tell my doctor or OB that we're moving so they're aware that I won't be staying with them long-term? Do I take the time to find someone I really like for the 8 weeks I'm here? Or just making find someone I love in MN the priority?

I called the family practice we saw in August for check-ups and the receptionist told me to come in today, and when I asked what would be happening, she said they need to check my insurance for coverage and set up an OB appt. No mention of blood test so I really don't know what to expect!

Anyway, is anyone else moving midway through their pregnancy? Sorry for the novel!

@BlueberryPie: I just got a snoogle this weekend!

@princessandthebee: hmm, I'm not sure but if it were me, I'd focus on finding a good OB in MN. My doctor didn't even see me until 12 weeks last time I was pregnant!

@princessandthebee: woo! Glad you've officially joined. I'd focus on finding the perfect MN doctor and just be upfront with your current doc. I don't think there's a reason to put a lot of effort into finding perfect one in Kansas.

Question ladies - for those of you who have gotten betas, how quickly did your doctor have the results? My last one was done Sat morning - do u think they have the results to doctor? I want to call and ask - so impatient!!

  11. NorCalWayfarer

    nectarine / 2134 posts

@runnerd: my old lab used to be really quick (within 24 hours). But with my new lab it took three days. It wouldn't hurt to call your doc and check in. Hoping for great numbers!!

    @princessandthebee: Welcome!

  12. justdarling

    apricot / 452 posts

@runnerd: I usually had the blood tests done in the morning and the doctor would call me with the results by 2 in the afternoon. I think how fast the turn around is depends on the lab.

  13. thismustbetheplace

    kiwi / 633 posts

@runnerd: They should definitely have the results by now if it was done at a lab that processes the specimins on site. If it was done offsite (on the weekend this might be the case) they might have been delivered this morning and run today. It doesn't hurt to call and ask for a nurse to look up the results!

  14. littleredhairedgrl

    persimmon / 1135 posts

@runnerd i have blood taken in the morning and get the results by the lastest 4pm that same day.

First appt update: It went OK. Although they took blood for testing and I almost passed out. Had to lay down and felt so sick all of a sudden. I was hoping I could mentally get over this and do better but I'm just not good at it.

And the receptionist lady made me feel bad for moving. She said, "Oh, but Dr. Riley is so great!'' It's not like I'm leaving because of him! My response: "Well I have family in Minnesota." And then she's concerned about insurance, which I am as well, because I know there is a big fee upfront and are we going to have to pay that twice? Ugh

The good news: I do like my family practice doc and since he does do low-risk pregnancies and vaginal births, I'm going to stick with him since it's such a short time. Although that might mean I won't get a sonogram until later, they just don't have the equipment there.

And thanks, I agree with you ladies, I might as well focus my energy on finding someone in MN. Sorry, I feel like a debbie downer, but I really am beyond excited! Just don't feel like this place is home (at all), and it affects everything.

@runnerd: Oh and my doc told me three days to wait for results! Craziness! Hope yours are faster than that!

    EDD: July 28, 2014

When Did You Find Out?: I got a positive on Thursday, 11/14, and it was confirmed by an HCG beta at my doctor's office this morning.

    Child Number: 1

    Where You Live: Philadelphia

What kind of provider will you see?: I'll be with my RE through my first trimester and then they'll release me to my OB/GYN.

When's Your First Appointment?: It was this morning and I'm going back every other day for the next two weeks to check my betas. This was an IVF cycle so my RE is being very diligent.

What kind of birth do you want?: I haven't really thought about it yet.

What You're Most Excited For: FINALLY being pregnant after struggling with infertility for a year and a half.

What You're Most Scared About: Something bad happening. After an ectopic pregnancy and 7 failed IUI's, I'm kind of terrified in general.

Symptoms so far: Very few. Just a couple of cramps. I felt more symptoms during all of those failed IUI cycles.

Share a picture of your bfp, announcement, &/or chart: Apparently there's supposed to be a button to add a photo to a comment but I don't see one. Halp!

EDD: Based on O, July 28. Based on LMP, August 1.

When Did You Find Out?: Today, around 11am. But I definitely had a feeling something was up for the past week.

    Child Number: 1

Where You Live: Lehigh Valley, PA

What kind of provider will you see?: Hopefully a midwife who delivers in a hospital, but I'll have to go to NJ for this experience because where I live is not midwife friendly at all

When's Your First Appointment?: Didn't make one yet! I'm going to test again on Friday when my period is officially "late" based on a 28 day cycle, then I'll make an appointment for a blood test

What kind of birth do you want?: A natural birth where I can move around, use a birthing tub and squat bar, and eat if I want to

What You're Most Excited For: I know we have a long way to go before this, but right now I think the honest answer is quitting my job and getting to be a SAHM

What You're Most Scared About: Miscarriage or pregnancy complications

Symptoms so far: I was crazy emotional last week. Sensitive boobs. I had some cramping, and the tiniest spots of implantation bleeding.

@littleredhairedgrl: i did/do have dull cramps sometimes, and sometimes more "pinch-y" cramps - i told my RE and he didn't seem terribly concerned, but if you're worried, give them a call just to check in (i always tend to err on the side of caution)

thanks @pastaandpotato @runnerd just called my RE and spoke to a nurse and she confirmed that it's totally normal.. I just want to speed this up and get to a point where i can feel confident. these first few weeks are so tough!

every time i have cramping i just try and picture the twins getting comfortable

  29. Mrs. Cookie

    blogger / persimmon / 1225 posts

@littleredhairedgrl: My doc said that any sharp pinching/pains on the side are your ligaments stretching, which I have been feeling randomly. I think it's so neat to know what's going on with our bodies as they change! Glad your cramp are nothing to worry about!

Can I just say my pants are feeling tight already? I swear I'm not eating more, just moving less probably, and feeling bloated and oh yea, the whole not pooping very often sucks. I was so regular before. Oh well, I'm gonna enjoy all of it! haha

@princessandthebee: haha that's what I've been saying "I swear I'm not eating more!"

    persimmon / 1135 posts

@princessandthebee @runnerd i've been saying the same thing! and just got back from lunch and feel huge! i keep wondering if i am begining to show early bc of the twins, but i'm sure it's just all the bloating, and not being as "regular" as usual.. too early for maternity pants?

  36. mlm2934

    grapefruit / 4311 posts

Ok ladies... Prolly gonna make people think I'm crazy, but I still haven't heard from the doctor, so I went and go my results directly from the lab on my lunch break. Based on my online research I feel good about these numbers, still anxious for the doc to confirm my thoughts!

    Progesterone was 25.4
    HCG at 5w2d: 1,320
    HCG at 5w4d: 2,254

At first I freaked about the HCG not being double, but every thing I have read online says it can take 72-96 hours to double once your HCG is over 1,200. The calculator I used online estimates mine would have doubled by 63 hours.

  37. littleredhairedgrl

    persimmon / 1135 posts

@runnerd those numbers look good to me and good for you for going directly to the lab for the results!

  38. littleredhairedgrl

question: does hcg keep going up or does it level off at some point?

@runnerd: popping in to say CONGRATS! Those numbers look great!

@littleredhairedgrl: I think at some point it levels off before it starts to rise again. I don't remember when that happens, though

LOL, sorry for jumping in so much. Month threads excite me
