@coopsmama: I know right! I think it's because it's a general practice doc and not a real OB. But it's my first pregnancy so I don't want to expect and I'm feeling antsy! Like how many weeks until I can have an U/S?!? haha
@kml636: Ooo that was so smart, I love that you were right all along! All women are different, and we can't be based off the same numbers, so true!
@LemonLong: Welcome!

EDD: 28 July 2014
When Did You Find Out?: 18 November 2013 (4 weeks)
Child Number: 1
Where You Live: Western Australia
What kind of provider will you see?: OBGYN
When's Your First Appointment?: 19 December 2013
What kind of birth do you want?: A safe one. The birthing centre we are going to deliver at has many options from C-sections to water births. I probably have to talk to the baby doctor about all the options before making any decisions.
What You're Most Excited For: Shopping for baby things, having a baby bump, maternity wear, and obviously hopefully if all goes well welcoming our new baby into the family.
What You're Most Scared About: I don't know, where do I begin? The birth, the blood tests, having a baby crying all night, trying to keep baby alive... you know all the usual stuff that moms worry about.
Symptoms so far: fatigue, very mild nausea but not much else so far (knock on wood)

@littleredhairedgrl: hey lady, just saw. I'm so sorry about your loss, but hooray for a strong little heartbeat! Hoping the rest is smooth sailing for you!
Incidentally, there was another mama on here who lost one of a set of twins, Swedish Fish, I think? So if you need, you might consider reaching out to her.
Sending hugs

@lovelyplum thanks i will reach out to her, as it's really a tough spot to be in. on the one hand i am super happy that we saw a heartbeat and our overall chances with this baby are more than 90%! but i am sad at the same time about the other one.. we spent a week getting pretty psyched about the idea of twins (esp after all the IF treatments we've done), but i know this little one is our baby and now i can give everything to this lo

so we're telling my dad and his wife tonight that we are preggers and i'm creating a card to give to them with the u/s pic, but wondering what i should do about his wife. they just got married 2 yrs ago, so it's not like i grew up with her or anything, but i care about her and we're somewhat close. she also has no kids of her own. should i say "congrats grandparents"? rather than just "grandpa"? (i don't really have a relationship with my mother, so his wife would really prob be the grandmother more than my mom..)
blogger / persimmon / 1225 posts
@littleredhairedgrl: I don't have experience with this situation but I would definitely say "grandparents," the more kids to love on your baby the better, right? I say this because you said you're pretty close to her and you care about her, so I think why not? I'm sure she'll be thrilled as well!

@littleredhairedgrl: We're in a very similar situation this Thanksgiving!! DH's mother remarried a few years ago so his step-father is not someone who was part of his life growing up, but is a great guy. He doesn't have a very good relationship with his bio dad, and we don't anticipate him being a big part of our future LO's life.
That being said, I would definitely have the card include both of them. For us, I think it will mean a lot to DH's step-father that we want him as the grandfather figure. Now we just have to figure out a cute way to break the news!
persimmon / 1135 posts
@thismustbetheplace yeah i think she will really be touched that we included her and that we want her as a big part of our baby's life.
i was going to just put a picture of the u/s up somewhere and sorta wait for them to see it, but my dad is an artist and i'm an invitation designer, so now i've created a mock-invitation to show them for their opinions and it will have the u/s pic on it. see attached for design

A little update on me: I've had spotting most of the past week, but no cramps or anything so tried not to worry. Anyways the spotting turned to red the past two days, and gets worse if I do anything physical at all. I decided to go to the ER and get checked out since I am a ball of nerves since I've had previous miscarriage.
My HCG had increased appropriately (now 9,260), cervix closed, baby with heartbeat of 114. I thought I should be 6w3d or 6w4d, but I was measuring 6w, so that worries me a little but trying not to let it bother and just be happy about all the other positives. I have my first real dr appt on Wed. Will be interested to see what their official due date is for me. It's so frustrating to have bleeding and no reason for it!!!
Oh and the other finding from my ultrasound was that I had some PCOS looking growths on ovaries, so that I should talk to my OB about that too.

@runnerd: I'm sorry for the scare. Sending positive thoughts your way!

@princessandthebee Thanks!
@runnerd Sorry to hear of your scare- though good they saw a baby with a nice heartbeat on the u/s. Early pregnancy can be so nerve-wracking. I hope you're feeling ok- sending good thoughts your way.
@HLK208 Cute bump- and sweater! Where did you get it? I need to find some new tops that can work with my already present bump. I am definitely going to need full-on maternity clothes before the first trimester is done.

@Littlebear: thanks! Old navy maternity (yep, I already picked up a few maternity pieces)

@runnerd: I'm sorry, that sounds very scary/frustrating! I am glad you heard a heartbeat and I'm hoping you feel better after your first appt!
@HLK208: ohmygosh, adorable! I feel the same way! We'll see how long I hold out before buying some clothing...

Happy Monday of a short week! How is everyone doing?
I really enjoyed getting to nap this weekend! Also been having really vivid dreams and generally not sleeping too well.

@HLK208: @Littlebear: @NorCalWayfarer: @princessandthebee: @littleredhairedgrl: thanks for encouragement guys, pregnancy is just a big roll coaster for me! I can't wait for Wed appt to confirm things with my actual doctor!!!!
Anyone else have an appointment coming up this week? Anyone not had a first appt yet?
grapefruit / 4311 posts
@littleredhairedgrl: hope your spotting cleared up!! It is so stressful even though much of the time it's nothing that can be explained.

@runnerd: my first appt isn't until next week! I'm surprised how *relatively* relaxed I've been. Getting betas helped to know things were on track in the beginning. I just think it won't really hit me that I'm pregnant until the first appt! Of course I'm pretty sure my mom already knows too -- not sure if we're going to be able to keep the secret until Christmas!

My first appointment isn't until 12/13! Seems like forever! And because my employer is also my OB I'm waiting until the day before my appointment to put my name in the schedule. It's going to be a surprise for my friend/nurse to find she'll be working me up that day.
Our sonographer offered to take a peak at things after the office closes for today. Totally unofficial and off the record of course, but enough to make sure things are measuring up and hopefully see a little FHR! I'm so nervously excited. I'm sure i'll post an update later!
