@runnerd: cute! I'm assuming everything went well today at your appt?!

@NorCalWayfarer: yea it went well! my new doctor is amazing and showed me lots of stuff on ultrasound that she found encouraging, basically helped me feel better. And since I've had spotting and previous m/c, she is going to give me weekly ultrasounds to monitor progress - pretty thrilled about that. I was off on my dates since I progressed 4 days from the Sat ultrasound to 6w4d, new official due date 7/19/13

Hope everyone had a good holiday weekend! Our thread has been pretty quiet lately!
I know for me, I'm scared to death to think about this pregnancy past the current moment. Since I've been having spotting and have a previous loss, I'm just on edge! I don't feel like myself, it's so so hard. I have my next ultrasound on Tues and am so anxious. I've conditioned myself to expect the worst!! If things look good this week, I hope I can allow myself to start relaxing a little more. My loss was at 8w last time, and I'm 7w1d right now. I know there's no way for me to be positive until I get past the 8w mark with a healthy heartbeat. Why does time creep so slowly!!!

Hi Everybody! I have some news... even though I'm only 6w1d we told my family at Thanksgiving that we're expecting and it was awesome! I know it's really early but I'm having the first great-grandchild/grandchild in the whole family so it's a pretty big deal. (Plus, if anything were to happen, I'd need my parent's support anyway.) Oh and between the moodiness and the fatigue I couldn't keep lying to my mother!
Everyone was thrilled and totally shocked! I had complained about getting my period to my mom over email so she was surprised I fooled her and impressed that my charting worked, haha. She's old school. My Dad bawled like a baby, my 25 year old brother is psyched to be an uncle, and my Grandma is trying to figure out how to get her name into the baby's name, haha.
I've attached pics of how we did it. My sister might have some from the actual reveal but I don't have them yet. Anyway, just trying to wait patiently until Dec. 18th for my first appt, but it's definitely more difficult than I though it would be!

@princessandthebee: cute! We are trying to hold off telling until Christmas, but I'm not sure if we'll make it!
I was exhausted from the holidays and crashed on the couch all day Sunday. Not looking forward to travelling for a conference later in the week First appt is Wed -- doesn't feel real yet!

@princessandthebee what a cute announcement! I'm clearly feeling the emotions of pregnancy as reading the line "meeting your first grandchild" brought tears to my eyes
@rainbow buttercup welcome!
@runnerd Sorry to hear that the anxiety of these weeks is wearing on you. I hope this next week goes by quickly and smoothly for you and that your next ultrasound brings some relief!
My first appointment is this Thursday and I can't wait! I'm so ready to see what's going on inside my uterus! I do ultrasounds on other people at work and have so far resisted the temptation to do one on myself (with my first pregnancy, my husband and I went in after-hours twice for a free glance- it was great!).
As for sharing with family, we've already told our parents (we were too excited to keep it a complete secret) and are planning on telling our sibs & close friends after the ultrasound.
In the mean time I've just been super-duper nauseous all. day. long. I'm happy because it means that my hormones are likely high but man, it's not easy having a toddler, an (almost) full-time job and this constant nausea. Anyone else having trouble with nausea? Anyone tried B6 vitamins for nausea? I'm going to ask my provider about it on Thursday...

just went for this week's appt with RE and we graduated today! we go to my ob next week at 8wk+6 and can't wait!! was great to see such a clear picture today too and heartbeat measuring 156 (up from 117 last week!) still can't believe there's a baby in there
@runnerd glad to hear your appt went well!
@littlebear i have been having bad nausea since this past weekend.. all day too! haven't really tried anything for it besides eating frequently. but now all i crave is carbs so i had to go off my gluten free diet (i have slight intolerance) because all that gf stuff is just not appetizing to me AT ALL! it was nice to have a bagel for the first time in a while tho
is the b6 supposed to help stop the nausea?

@Littlebear: OMG there is no way I wouldn't have checked things out if I had ultrasound access at work
@littleredhairedgrl: glad you had a good appt! Sounds like everything is just right!!
I just got home from an ultrasound. I just will not be able to really relax until I'm past 8 weeks, but everything measured the right growth today, and heartbeat went from 110 last week to 148, so that definitely helped me breath a little easier. Still measuring for 7/19 EDD - 7w3d. I think my doctor still plans for me to have another ultrasound next week, but haven't scheduled it yet. That will be the big one for me when I can start getting excited!

@littleredhaired girl Yay for graduating to your OB! And glad you get to enjoy some gluten-full foods B6 is supposed to help decrease nausea- though some of the studies I looked at found it was equally or less effective than ginger. I have been chowing down on ginger chews, but still am feeling pretty gnarly so I'm eager to try something more.
@runnerd Glad to hear your appt went well- you're almost to 8 wks!
As for the ultrasounds, I, too, am surprised at my self-control --it's certainly not something I'm known for! I think it's that I'm used to doing the vaginal u/s this early along and, well, I think it might be awkward to do on yourself (since none of my co-workers know yet). I'm sure we'll take a look when I'm further along and the abdominal u/s is a better option. In the meantime, I just need to make it to Thursday!

Had my first appt today! Everything looked great according to the dr. Measures exactly 9w so he pushed my due date up to 7/9. Ahh so crazy there's a baby in there!

I haven't updated here in awhile (but I've been following -- so exciting to see great results from all of the recent appointments!) but popping in today because today is finally my first appointment! So hoping all goes well. It's my first time at this OB's office (I'll actually be seeing the midwives that work there) so I have no idea what to expect or what they'll do but I'll update after.

I've been MIA for a bit but just wanted to say hello! We were able to share the news with my MIL and step-FIL over Thanksgiving. They were over the moon! Did anyone else feel a weird guilt after telling people though? For weeks it had just been DH and I keeping this awesome secret, I almost feel like I'm jinxing things by telling people so early! I know there is no basis in reality for those thoughts... I'll blame it on being hormotional.
First appointment is a week from today, looking forward to it. Only major symptoms are fatigue and a need to stay very on top of getting food in my belly! I swear I have to eat every 2 hours or I'm a nauseous mess. It's all worth it though!
@princessandthebee: LOVE the stocking idea!! We might do something along those lines for when we reveal to my parents at Christmas!
@Rainbow Buttercup: @Mrsjansson: Welcome!

@NorCalWayfarer: Yay, sounds like a great appt!
@Mrsjansson: welcome!
@thismustbetheplace: It definitely felt weird, and nerve-racking. I told my mom not to tell too many people (she had to tell her best friend), but other than that, I feel the need to keep reminding everyone in my family that it's still very early. We all are pumped for that first appt!! Glad yours is coming up!

Alright ladies, I was too nervous to join until today, but after seeing a bean on the u/s yesterday – it’s all beginning to feel somewhat official.
EDD: Based on O - 26/7/2014; based on LMP - 28/7/2014… not too much of a difference but in these early, uncertain weeks every day feels like it counts!
When Did You Find Out: Got a faint positive on 18/11/13.
Child Number: One
Where You Live: Living in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia but born and bred in Dublin, Ireland. Plan on having the babs here in Riyadh.
What kind of provider will you see: As a general rule the only option here in Saudi is an Ob/Gyn led delivery, however there is a wonderful midwife who has been working in one of the hospitals for nearly 20 years and she is unofficially pioneering a midwife led/ natural birth alternative. We have been very fortunate to meet her last week, and she is just lovely! We are seeing a great Ob/Gyn between now and the delivery that our lovely midwife has recommended but who subscribes to her philosophies, and will hand over the reigns to the midwife when the big day arrives.
When's Your First Appointment: Two appointments in now. First one for bloods and second one for u/s. All seems ok. Due to slight language barriers there isn’t a huge amount of conversation at these appointments, but I’m going with the ‘no problems, therefore nothing to say’ principal!
Didn’t hear heartbeat yesterday, but I’m not sure if that’s because she didn’t look for one or because it’s too early. The Doctor was smiling and worked away taking measurements, so I’m working hard to keep my (probably unfounded) anxieties at bay. My husband was very cute though and was like a little boy when we she pointed out the bean/ baby to us. I have to say, it was a relief to see that there was actually something in there, and that it hasn’t all just been some figment of my imagination! Due back for further u/s on 31st December – a nice way to end the year
What kind of birth do you want: I’m trying very hard to be as practical about this as possible. I’d very much like a natural one, but obviously one where mother and baby are healthy and happy at the end is the over-riding goal.
What You're Most Excited For: Telling my parents they will be grandparents for the first time, feeling the baby move, meeting our new son or daughter… all very exciting
What You're Most Scared About: Where to start! Miscarriage, problems with the baby, problems with the delivery, doing it all in a (very) foreign country with language barriers and different social norms/ priorities thrown in, dealing with a newborn so far away from our support system of friend s and family, having a life solely dependent on you forever!
Symptoms so far: As a genuine non-drama queen, I feel like I have become the world’s biggest moaner! Battling major fatigue, nausea (I’m not sure if it’s a lot or a little as I have nothing to compare it to, but it washes over me several times a day and I retch horribly most mornings – but nothing comes up… not fun), some random cramping, some headaches, still fairly emotional, off food at times and ravenous at others, seriously sore boobs and light constipation!
Anyway, that’s my mini novel about our journey so far! Looking forward to accompanying you ladies on this crazy ride!

welcome @mrscdh !!
almost 9wks now and have our first appt with OB wednesday after graduating from our RE and can't wait!! oh and officially in maternity leggings after literally nothing fits my waste without being super tight and causing my stomach to hurt and i have to say these are the most comfortable things ever! lol no true bump yet, but definitely needed to go this route. also got a belly band so i can wear all my regular pants still

@Mrsjansson @MrsCDH: Welcome!
@coopsmama: Hope your appt went well!
@littleredhairedgrl: Hope your appt with the OB goes well -- glad you've "graduated" to the OB, sounds like things are going smoothly! I'm tempted to get a belly band -- I've been wearing dresses with big sweaters this week and my pants are getting a little uncomfy in the waist already and I'm only 9ish weeks! I read some reviews on Amazon about them fitting weird -- did you try one on in store?
persimmon / 1135 posts
@norcalwayfarer I got the belly band from pea in a pod -- it's their brand and it fit pretty well on my higher-waisted pants but didn't try with anything lower. I am only almost 9wks and can't believe I'm already wearing this stuff but still on progesterone so might be causing my increased bloat
blogger / persimmon / 1225 posts
@MrsCDH: Welcome!!
@littleredhairedgrl: Congrats on graduating to the OB! I'm 7w1d and feeling bloated but clothing still fits... for now. When do women normally start wearing maternity clothes? I'm sure it varies for everyone but I'm just curious because I feel like I might need to switch to mat clothing before my uterus leaves the pelvic area and I pop. I had no idea that was what happened until I started reading about pregnancy!

Hi mamas! Sorry I've been a bit MIA lately, but I've been so busy this holiday season. I just had my first OB appt today and I'm so happy to report that it went well. We saw our little bean who is measuring pretty much on target (I calculated my EDD to be 7/19/14 according to O date, and ultrasound estimates EDD to be 7/18/14). And we saw/heard the heartbeat-- a strong and steady 176 bpm! The best part was my DH and DS were both there with me.

I haven't been too active this week on the boards, but today is my next ultrasound and doc appt. I'm 8w4d and just scared to death that history will repeat and the heartbeat will be gone. Just trying my best to hold it together until 1:45pm!!
