@jh524: @tlcbaby: I had never had a flu shot, but I got mine at my 12 week appointment. I was nervous about it! But, it was virtually painless and I had no ill effects. They really push them at my midwife practice - signs everywhere, ppl ask you - and I figured the benefits outweighed the risks.
How exciting that everyone will have anatomy scans soon! Mine is scheduled for January 11. Like @LazyLightning: , I am dying to know if it's a boy or girl, in part to help with the name conundrum.

okay I'll be brave and post the first baby bump photo. I'm 14 weeks and 4 days today!

@itsmejules: So cute! I was thinking of posting one this week, too. I am definitely starting to show!
@Revel: We are going to have the exact same name whether it is a boy or a girl so we don't have to worry about that part. It wasn't intended to work out that way, but we think it works for a boy or a girl.

@itsmejules: Yay!!! You look great!
I think I'll post one too at some point today. It's time ladies! How exciting

So my dr. also recommended getting the flu shot. So im probably gonna get it since I work around kids. I never have but since I got the flu over thanksgiving, Im not taking my chances of getting it again. I guess us pregnant ladies have lower immune systems so we have a higher chance of getting sick. boohoo!!
Also, I expected to weight like 10-15 lbs more since my 8 week appt. I feel so much bigger!! I havent been able to eat healthy or workout near as much but low and behold I actually lost 2 lbs. Very suprised... All went well at my 12 week appontment!!
How many of you are opting to get the genetic testing? They test for down syndrome and other chromosomal abnormalities...
nectarine / 2750 posts
@jh524: I decided to go get one tomorrow. I know the chances are low, but I don't want to be that one person who gets the flu and has really negative consequences.
We aren't doing any of the genetic testing, but I think a lot of the girls have. I worry enough as it is and I am horribly impatient so I think it would cause me a lot of unnecessary worry.

@jh524: only so far as the NT scan and the bloodwork that goes with it. I think if those had come back as potentially high risk I might have gone for more testing ...
pear / 1563 posts
@jh524: I just did the NT and bloodwork also, like @knittylady: . I came back low risk so didn't do anything further. I have the 16 week piece of the bloodwork on Friday, after which time they give you a more updated result. I guess if at that time I was higher risk for some reason, I might consider an amnio, but I'm not sure.
@itsmejules: You look great! I've only taken a few odd shots here and there, I'll have to think about taking one for posting soon.

had another doctors appointment this morning - I LOVE saying this, it was totally routine. Got to hear baby's heartbeat (156bpm), got to pee in a cup, got to make my 20 week scan.
I have been doing all of the genetic testing (testing for Spina Bifida next week), but this is my second child, so I've learned not to stress out too much.

@itsmejules: Looking good! I haven't done one in a few weeks, will have to do it soon.
I had my appt yesterday at 15w 5d, and here's what went down.
-I had to give a pee sample
-I was weighed (my oh my)
-I was asked how I'm doing
---I told them about my horrible headaches; doctor prescribed a drug called Reglan and told me to take it with 1000 mg tylenol. I'm not sure if i'm going to or not, want to research it. I took just the tylenol this morning and that helped a little, to take the edge off.
-He used the doppler to listen. Took him a while to find the heartbeat (to the point where i got worried) but he said 140-150 bpm.
My next appt is my January 16th anatomy scan. I was told to drink 32-64 oz of water before that appt. The scan's at 2 and then i see the doctor at 3. I was also told that they'll want a pee sample every appointment from now on, so to prepare for that (I was not prepared this time; after 2 other visits with no sample needed, I went before going to the doctor and struggled to provide the sample yesterday!).
That's about it! All in all it took about 15 minutes, aside from the 10 minutes I spent in the bathroom struggling to pee in that stupid cup!

@jh524: I just saw your question. I had the genetic testing. My husband and i were not sure what we'd do depending on what was found, but definitely wanted all the information.
I had the NT scan at 11 w 6 d, and my risk of downs came back kind of high. Not "positive" or anything, but high enough to freak us out.
So, we were offered to either wait until 18 weeks to get an amnio, or to get this new blood test they have called Verifi, which can isolate within 99% accuracy for downs or a few other things -- and it's just a blood draw from your arm, not a needle to the tummy. So no miscarriage risk. I had the blood test right away, and the result came back negative. (whew!)
Had it come back positive or inconclusive, we would have been recommended to get an amnio, which i'd be getting next week. I canceled the appt though due to our negative result.

@itsmejules: @lazylightning: Yea for easy/good appointments. Next time we'll all be sharing our little ultrasound pictures! I hope your headaches get better, @lazylightning.
My only yucky symptom right now is my nose is constantly stopped up and it is difficult to breathe. But I think I am kind of just getting used to it.
pear / 1664 posts
@tlcbaby: mine gets stopped up at night or if I lie down, but during the day it's runny! have to be careful too, because blowing it too much = nose bleeds. Ah, the fun symptoms!!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@LazyLightning: We should have one fun "symptom" on the horizon. My midwife said I should start feeling the baby in a few weeks!
Has anybody felt anything yet? I know sometimes people feel it earlier.
pear / 1563 posts
@tlcbaby: Ok, so twice this week I've almost thought I felt something. This is my first so it would be pretty early but I think not outside of the realm of possibility.
Once on Monday (15w2d) while I was doing thrusters at Crossfit (haha!) I thought I felt a flutter in an unusual spot, much higher than I would have guessed for movement at this stage, like a few inches below my belly button.
Then in bed Tuesday night (15w3d) I thought I felt like a tapping from the inside. It was kind of rhythmic but not regular. If I had to guess I would think maybe this was the real thing, but I'm really not sure. I've read that first movement can feel like a flick of the finger to your insides, and that's what this felt like.
pear / 1664 posts
@tlcbaby: I felt a 'flutter' or similar just this morning. But it only lasted a few seconds and it didn't happen again. So maybe it was just gas... but it felt different than gas. Hoping to feel it again soon!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@LazyLightning: @revel: That is so amazing! I think once you feel it a few times and KNOW that is what it is, you'll realize that is what you were feeling all along.
pomegranate / 3212 posts
@LazyLightning: I had something like that a few days ago! I wish there was a way to KNOW if it's baby. I really think it was....
pear / 1664 posts
@knittylady: @tlcbaby: I'm trying to be practical and think "in 10 weeks or so I'll be exhausted from so much kicking!" So, i can be patient. Sort of.
Also I've heard it can HURT when baby gets bigger and starts kicking you in the ribs, crotch, etc. (how rude!)

When does everyone find out the gender (if you are)
I have an appointment set for January 18th but I am contemplating going for a 4d scan to do an early gender scan?!!
pear / 1632 posts
@LazyLightning: Im considering getting the test. I think it will depend if its a routine test that is covered by my insurance plan.
I did find out Im blood type O negative. I guess theres some concern regarding RH factor and the babys blood type. I would have to get shots to prevent my blood producing antibodies against the babies blood if he or she is a positive. (I think thats correct..)I need to send my hubby into find out his blood type.!!! Do any of you know much about this? Thanks!!!
pear / 1986 posts
@jh524: I'm actually headed in for my NT scan and bloodwork tomorrow (12w6d). But, I don't think we'll do anything else even if something comes back high risk on these scans. I'm just so excited to see a "bigger" little baby!!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@DpeachLu: How far along would you be on the 18th? How soon could you go to have the 4D and have them be able to tell the gender?
clementine / 814 posts
@tlcbaby: I dont have my appointment until January 18th which will make me 19 weeks and 5 days. However there are 4d scan type places where you pay for a gender scan and they say they recommend you wait until after 15 weeks. (I am 14 weeks and 4 days today) However Im just nervous that they say the wrong gender since it is early!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@DpeachLu: That did happen to a friend of mine, actually. She was told boy and then at her next ultrasound they found out it was a girl! She is due in a few weeks.
pear / 1563 posts
So I had my midwife appointment this morning - just the standard stuff and the heartbeat was at 148 on the doppler. She did say that between weeks 16 to 20 is when I could start to feel the baby, but usually closer to 20 for a first pregnancy. I will be paying close attention!
olive / 69 posts
I have my 20 week scan on January 22nd - Ive never thought of those 4d places, but I know with a trained ultrasound technician, they almost always get the gender right.
pear / 1986 posts
Yay - everything looked good on my NT scan this morning! So exciting to see baby getting so big :)! I actually asked about gender even though I know that ~13 weeks is too early. My 20 week anatomy scan will be the first week of February. Can't wait!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@GreenThumb: Great news and February will be here before you know it.
We got our first gift for the baby today! My friend got me a Sesame Street book with zoo animals for Christmas. It is so cute!

I have a question for all of the fellow June ladies. I was 13 weeks this past Monday and had a head cold/upper respiratory thing on Wednesday. I spent most of the day in bed sleeping. I have not been able to sleep the past three nights! I am exhausted. Is anyone else having trouble sleeping?
nectarine / 2750 posts
@swedishfish: I was having trouble sleeping for a while. Different things kept me awake, though - headaches, having to pee, hunger, couldn't get comfortable. Now I can get to sleep, I just wake up a lot to pee. I have been super congested, though. I am basically sleeping with my humidifier in my face.
pear / 1664 posts
@DpeachLu: Mine's january 16th. I'll be 20 weeks 5 days. They don't do it before 20th week here. I looked for a 3D/4D clinic nearby but would have to drive 300 miles to find one, so I will just have to be patient!!
pear / 1563 posts
@DpeachLu: I'll find out gender on Jan 11. That'll be more or less exactly 20 weeks. While I'm impatient to find out, we won't spring for an elective scan in the interim.
@swedishfish: I've had some rough insomnia on and off since I found out I was pregnant. Some days I just can't fall asleep, no matter how tired I am. I haven't found a good strategy, just kind of have to ride it out for a few days. I don't know it maybe it's hormonal during pregnancy, because I just seem to get phases of it, not really related to whatever else is going on in my life. Good luck, I hope you get some sleep soon, insomnia is terrible!

Okay, I don't want to leave @itsmejules out on a ledge so here is my almost 16 week bump...along with a photo from September in a very unforgiving tri-suit for comparison
pear / 1664 posts
@tlcbaby: great bump shot!
I forgot on Friday and don't want to do it in my jammies, so I'll try to remember to take and post early next week!
pear / 1632 posts
@tlcbaby: You look adorable with your small bump! Does anyone else this issue of looking like your hardly pregnant in the morning and then looking 6 months pregnant in the evenings?! I swear, its incredible the changes throughout the day! I think it just bloating, gas and food consuption...but soon enough ill have a real one like tlc baby!!!!;) Cant wait !!!!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@jh524: Yes! I definitely think it is bloating/food but my belly definitely grows as the day goes on. It starts feeling harder, too.

Ok...here's what 18 lbs of weight in 12 weeks looks like. 1st pic is week 4; second is 16w2d.
olive / 69 posts
oh my god, I look way more huge in the evening. Im still squeezing into my regular pants, but maternity pants feel much much more comfortable!
Also, I keep having a sharp pain in my boob! I dont know if its just growing (seriously, ive grown two cup sizes at least) or something else. But its insanely uncomfortable.
pear / 1632 posts
@itsmejules: Yes! Im still in my regular pants, at least they fit well in the morning. But by evening time I'll I want is to do is unbutton-unzip and get those bad boys off and into sweats!!! LOL!!
I'm waiting until after Christmas to go maternity clothes shopping....thinking sales!!!
