@jh524: @itsmejules: oh wow ladies I'm jealous! I was out of all my regular pants by the time I was 8 weeks. Now they're 2 sizes too small. I can't even pull most of them up over my thighs. I originally didn't want to buy any/many maternity clothes; now i'm thinking i'll have to go up a size by the time the spring rolls around. The ones i bought back in Oct are getting TIGHT.

@jh524: One thing I like about maternity clothes is you don't feel like you have to run home and change into your pj's because you are already so comfy you feel like you are wearing pj's!

@LazyLightning: You look ADORABLE and are carrying the weight really well. Your waist was SO tiny before it's possible your body just needed to pack on some maternal fat cells to carry this pregnancy. You look so healthy and fit, don't worry about the number on the scale at all!

I figured I should probably introduce myself
My husband and I live on Long Island, New York. I am pregnant with our first child and due on June 17. I was pregnant with twins but lost one early on. We are (as of right now) staying team green though my husband is convinced the baby is a boy!
Has anyone else started a baby registry yet? I did this weekend to distract myself from watching the news. It was a little overwhelming.
nectarine / 2750 posts
@swedishfish: I haven't started yet - it seems the husband doesn't want to until after our anatomy scan on the 8th of Jan. We also have suffered a miscarriage and are just trying to be cautious, although everything is going great this time around! I think we both know that soon everything is going to be baby stuff all the time so we are trying to put it off a bit. So we'll probably start next month.
Where did you register?
pear / 1664 posts
@JoJoGirl: aw thanks! i feel like a whale (a lot of it is the double chin (and fatter face!), the back fat, and the flabby thighs. I notice it but others don't, thank god.)
@swedishfish: welcome!!
pear / 1664 posts
@swedishfish: I have some ideas but haven't started yet. I figure like others, I will start after we find out the gender on the 16th of Jan.

@tlcbaby: I registered at Babies R Us. I would've preferred Amazon but I figured Babies R Us is easier since people can shop online or in the store.
@LazyLightning: Thank you!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@swedishfish: Cool - I am still trying to decide. I am thinking maybe one brick and mortar store, but I have seen some online registries where you can register for general items (not necessarily the brand or color you want) and people can get them wherever they choose or donate things they aren't using anymore. I kind of like that idea!
pear / 1664 posts
wouldn't be my own first choice, but I think I'm going to register at Walmart. It's the only store that's easy for many of my husband's relatives, and my friends, to get to due to where they live. (It's local to them, any other store they'd have to travel out of town to get to.) Walmart does have a lot of the same stuff as Target, so I figure for stuff like bottles and burp cloths and diapers and such, it's just great.

Okay Ladies, Here's my comparison shots from 6 weeks and now at 13 weeks plus 1.
I feel like my tummy looks fat and bloated now!!! And sorry about the large and un-fashiony pictures...The later one Im still in my jammies;) More to come later on and ill try to dress up....maybe.
pear / 1664 posts
@jh524: Looking good! FWIW, my 'before' tummy looked a lot like yours but due to my inability to STOP EATING CARBS (hey, it curbs my nausea, Ican't help it), I'm like twice your size now. haha.
pear / 1632 posts
@LazyLightning: Thanks girl! Keep in mind you're also 4 weeks further along than me so your suppose to be bigger And I know how you feel...carbs have now replaced my salads as my go to meal...im NOT complaining!;0 lol

Well I feel it! lol Thanks tlc
SO,,,,, I cant wait for Christmas Eve because were going to tell our family and friends our big announcement!! Only our parents, my sister, and a few close friends know as of now. Heres the plan... We typically make one of the guys dress up like santa for the kids on christmas eve. It's so fun!! So I was thinking of making my hubby go open a mystery present by santa and he'll open up a pair of booties or diapers or something baby related to hint to everyone. Do you have any other fun ideas?

i'm 15 weeks tomorrow and not showing at all. i'm definitely thicker around the waist, but it's pretty even all around. no bump.
anyone else not showing at all yet? i'm so looking forward to even a little bump so i can stop feeling fat and start feeling pregnant.
pear / 1664 posts
@softcream: I'm definitely showing in the front at 17 weeks. Sadly, I still feel fat. I am pretty sure it's because my thighs look and feel HUGE to me..also I have back fat for the first time in my life. My maternity pants are getting tight in the legs -- ugh!
I was complaining about it the other day and my husband goes 'you aren't fat, you're pregnant'. I said 'but my THIGHS aren't!!' lol.
I think a lot of ladies 'pop' between weeks 15 and 20 - I bet you'll have a cute little bump going on pretty soon!

A new, fun pregnancy symptom appeared yesterday for me. Pain near my belly button? I'm guessing it's either my uterus expanding or round ligament pain but it hurts! Has anyone else had similar pain?
pear / 1664 posts
@swedishfish: yep! No fun, is it? Also I have it on the sides, kind of low, on and off. Won't help in the short term but keep that area moisturized! My belly button must be stretching because it bleeds a little bit now and then! Probably stretching combined with the dryness of winter. I started making sure to put lotion on my belly as well as in my belly button, and I think that's helped a lot.
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@LazyLightning: It feels like my abdomen is being torn apart! What kind of lotion are you using?
pear / 1664 posts
@swedishfish: I was using palmers for a while but the chocolatey smell made me feel ill. So now just lubraderm..

New symptom at 17w 1d...
Hip pain! Ouch! I have dull, aching pain in my hips and upper butt area. I can't find any position that makes it go away. Lovely!! Anyone else?
pear / 1632 posts
@LazyLightning: I have this since 8 weeks! And tailbone pain..Its horrible and on really bad nights all i do is toss and turn in bed. I've tried sleeping on pillows and blankets which the later works the best. It's gotten so bad that my legs are sore during the day. I think the resolution is a new mattress!!!
pear / 1664 posts
@jh524: our mattress is pretty new but man, the pain still persists no matter what! My friend told me to try sleeping with a pillow between my knees - that has actually helped me get a better night's sleep I think.

Has anyone else had headaches? I've been having headaches for the last three days that don't go away with acetaminophen and caffeine, which I read might help. Seems to be getting worse , more like migraine at this point. Any suggestions would be great to hear
apricot / 423 posts
@jh524: i've been having headaches the past couple days too, but figured it was from not drinking enough water and from eating stuff i wouldn't normally eat (holidays with family). i haven't taken anything though; just trying to ride it out while gulping down water.
pear / 1664 posts
@jh524: @softcream: Oh yes. Real pounders that just will NOT go away. My doctor told me to take 1000 mg of Tylenol. I think that took the edge off but didn't really help. He prescribed me a drug called Reglan he said I could take with it but I haven't done that - it had a lot of scary side effects (for me, not baby) and I decided the headache wasn't bad enough to deal with the potential side effects. Drinking water may or may not help but at least it isn't harmful. Good luck. I found an ice pack over my forehead and eyes, or on the back of my neck, was very soothing too. Also, taking breaks from the computer when possible (difficult since i sit at it all day at work, but i would try to focus elsewhere for a bit.)

Hi ladies! I've been MIA but saw this and wanted to pop in - i've also had the worst headaches of my life starting around 14-15 weeks that lasted for DAYS.. like I would wake up with the same headache I went to sleep with. I found 500mg of tylenol helped a little but definitely not a fun 2nd tri symptom
pear / 1632 posts
Yep, that sound like me lately! I think all the smells and sounds made it worse too. I was getting worried because my headache was so bad so I checked my blood pressure and it was fine. If it was high I was gonna go to hospital. Happy I didn't have to and hope I don't get another one. Lasted three days and wouldn't go away with anything....
pear / 1563 posts
Tons of headaches for me too. No migraines since about week 12 , but I was waking up with one almost every day the last few weeks. It's gotten a little better lately but I have one this morning.

I am so sorry that everyone's been having bad headaches lately. I hope everyone feels better soon!
I have my 16 week appointment on New Years Eve. So excited but disappointed that I won't get a sonogram. My doctor's office does a sonogram at your first appointment and then I officially don't get another one till 20 weeks. However, the NP did a quick sonogram at 12 weeks to see if the second sac had absorbed yet so maybe I'll get lucky and have one on Monday too.

Gosh, that is so weird - I've been getting headaches in the evening every night ever since hitting 14 weeks. I didn't realize it was a 2nd tri symptom and I'm sorry to hear others are having a tough time with that, too. I just thought I was having trouble staying hydrated/eating enough. It is sooooo dry here this winter and I have a tough time eating much in one sitting! I get so full so quickly. But, I'm just glad my nausea/heaving is finally gone!
I decided yesterday to switch to a new OB practice. I literally just met my OB for the first time at my last appointment. Prior to that it had just been the nurses and nurse practitioners. And I didn't love the OB when I finally met her. When I asked her about meeting all the possible docs who might deliver me, I was shocked that it could be any OB from about 10 clinics (within a University Health system) - yikes! So I'm switching based on a friend's suggestion. Only 4 female OBs and you get to meet them all before delivery! Hoping I like this office better!
cantaloupe / 6206 posts
@GreenThumb: Sounds great about the new practice! We did the exact same thing.. stuck with an OB my gyn recommended until the NT scan was done, and then switched to a MUCH smaller OB/midwife practice. 4 midwives and 3 OBs and you have appts with all of them before you deliver so you can get to know everyone. I've had 2 appts there already including my anatomy scan last week and I'm so much happier!
pear / 1986 posts
@JoJoGirl: That's good to hear! I'm really glad it ended up being a good switch for you. I was nervous about making a change, but I knew this was the time to do it. And in the end, I think I'll be happier about the quality of the care. My other OB clearly didn't even look at my chart before walking into the room. I really hate that!
cantaloupe / 6206 posts
@GreenThumb: Me too!!! The OB we saw was covering for "mine" (who I'd seen once) and when we saw her after the NT scan, she was like "Okay, so what tests did you have run? What were the results?" DH was SO ANGRY like I'm sorry, but are we managing our own care? How are we supposed to keep track of this stuff?
apricot / 423 posts
@swedishfish: we only get 2 ultrasounds total (at 12 weeks for NT scan and at 19-20 weeks for anatomy scan); or 3 if you count the intravaginal one during our first visit to confirm pregnancy.
during our other visits, we get to hear baby's heartbeat with a doppler which is pretty cool. that's enough for me to know that baby is still doing well.
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@softcream: I guess I didn't realize that I would go from ultrasounds every week after IVF to very few for the rest of the pregnancy. The Doppler does reassure me though. I want my own but haven't found a good one yet.
pear / 1664 posts
@swedishfish: At 16 weeks i got a doppler but no sono. My practice does 1 ultrasound, total. At 20 weeks for anatomy/gender. I had to pitch a fit and go to a different hospital in another city to get an NT Scan, even. Excited that my 20 week appt is in 2 weeks and i get to see the little bugger again.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas! We were out of town in Oklahoma and I had a nasty virus most of the time. Throwing up and spent a day and a half in bed...some Christmas! It was still good to see everybody, though.
I am looking forward to our anatomy scan on the 8th!! Also, I think I felt the baby move this week. It was really low and felt like little thumps. I felt it two days in the same place so I really think it was the baby and not just my tummy rumbling.
