My baby shower is in late April, but I have no idea what I'm going to wear! I've been looking at maternity dresses at Asos.

Are any of you experiencing a crazy amount of movement? I have an anterior placenta so it took me a while to feel it, but now that I'm 26 weeks I can feel and see my belly moving everywhere! I can also feel it in several different parts of my belly at once. Its the weirdest feeling! I just can't distinguish kicks, rolls, and punches yet. It all feels similar.

@LazyLightning: I think I may be having some occasional Braxton Hicks - mine feel like exactly what you describe.
@grizz: Movement has been crazy for me! It's starting to keep me awake and wake me up.
@knittylady: My shower is a surprise, so I don't know what to do about what to wear! Although I sort of have it narrowed down to April. Is anyone else's shower a surprise? Suggestions on how to plan an outfit for this? Do I just need to dress nice every weekend in April, hahaha
nectarine / 2750 posts
@LazyLightning: I haven't noticed any yet, I've been meaning to ask when that usually starts.
@knittylady: My sister and mom are planning my shower for mid-April. I don't like any of the dresses in the maternity stores here so I am going to start looking online a bit. Old Navy has a few cute ones online, but I never know what the clothes will look like so I order a bunch of stuff and try it on and usually return all/most of it.
@grizz: Yes! I watched my whole stomach roll the other night, it was so bizarre. Now I feel like I feel the feet go one way and the hands go another like the baby is stretching and I am just starting to feel more distinct movement like a punch or kick. It doesn't hurt, I can just tell it is getting stronger.

@knittylady: My baby shower is a surprise. I wish it wasn't so I'd make sure to look presentable!

@Revel: Mine is also a surprise. But so was my bridal shower and I figured it out. I'm hoping to figure it out this time too so I can dress nicely.

@swedishfish: Glad to know I'm not alone in this! I'm hopeful that they'll frame the event as some type of outing or get together that would cue me in to wear something nice. I'm not too keen on the surprise aspect but still very grateful that my friends and family are throwing me a fun shower.

I've got my GD test this afternoon I've not got a good feeling about it. I've put on 25 pounds already, and even though I know weight can have nothing to do about it, I'm feeling really anxious....
Anyone else have this done yet?
papaya / 10473 posts
@knittylady: I have gained 25 lbs also. Doesn't matter how much I exercise or how healthy I eat - I gain 1 lb a week, solid. My GD test is Monday and I'm pretty much a wreck about it.
pear / 1664 posts
@knittylady: oooh good luck. Mine's in a few weeks. (Week 28). I'm actually not nervous about it, even though I've not eaten a good diet, and even though I've put on 33+ lbs at this point. Honestly, I figure I was fine and my mom had type 1 diabetes... I'm just not too worried. I also really hate being pregnant, and GD often means earlier-than-due-date induction, so I'm kind of pro- that, hah. (Plus with a mom with type 1, i have a great resource for diabetes-friendly foods.)
Also, i had an awful, awful vivid dream last night. I expected maybe dreams about husband cheating or things like that. This was about me abusing an animal. I still can't shake it. I hope it isn't recurring.
papaya / 10473 posts
@LazyLightning: Awww, no! That dream would shake me really badly too. I have had awful nightmares my entire pregnancy, to the point that I won't even let DH watch anything remotely suspenseful, much less scary... Not sure if that helps or not, since I still have them. But I can sympathize. I hope for you that its not recurring.
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@knittylady: I had to do it early (in the first trimester) because my mom has type II diabetes. I failed the one hour but passed the three with flying colors. I will have to go again soon and I'm starting to get nervous again! Good luck!!!
pomegranate / 3212 posts
@LazyLightning: My step mother has Type I diabetes so she'd be a good source. I obviously don't want it but being forced to eat better might not be the worst thing for me... I haven't been terrible but, yeah, not stellar...
@grizz: I'm sorry to hear you're a wreck about it, but am also glad to know I'm not alone. Hahah, is that terrible? I'll have my fingers crossed for all of us and I'll certainly let you all know what it's like today whatever the outcome. This drink is supposed to be heinous!!!
papaya / 10473 posts
@knittylady: I'm glad I'm not alone too! haha! I follow a certain blog and the blogger is a week ahead of me and has only gained like 8 pounds so it makes me feel like crap when I read it. I heard the drink isn't *too* bad if its cold, and if they let you choose the flavor, choose lemon or lime. That way it tastes most like a flat soda. Let us know how it goes! I'm crossing fingers for you!
pear / 1664 posts
@grizz: We literally get an Orange Crush soda. cold, in the can. SO i'm not worried about that aspect at all!
pear / 1664 posts
@grizz: i know right? on one hand I'm looking forward to it. on the other, i have to wonder if it's really "enough" to actually tell if you have gd.
pear / 1664 posts
Were y'all told to fast or what to eat before your GD tests? This came up on another forum recently. I was told to eat 'normally'. The consensus on the forum was that eating a bunch of carbs is probably not a good idea.... protein's a better bet.
papaya / 10473 posts
@LazyLightning: Mine told me to eat a balanced breakfast with protein, and avoid sugar. But isn't that kind of cheating?
pear / 1664 posts
@grizz: I would think so. But i also know a lot of women who are forced to endure the 3 hour test because they failed the 1 hour... and a common theme is that they ate something carby or sugary, like a bagel or something beforehand...
apricot / 423 posts
@knittylady: @LazyLightning: i had my test on tuesday. i was nervous because i don't normally drink soda since drinking too much sugar typically makes me feel yucky. anyway, they came in with a chilled bottle of the orange drink, had me chug it (got a bit of brain freeze) and then took the bottle away. i wanted to see what the ingredients were but didn't get a chance. it wasn't so bad, though it did make the back of my throat a little scratchy.
they told me to eat a normal breakfast, but better to avoid fruit, juice or too many carbs because that might skew the results. so i ended up eating just one hard boiled egg. also, after drinking the orange drink, i asked if i could have some water and go to the bathroom. bathroom was ok, but i couldn't have any water to avoid dilution. also, i was told to not walk around too much to avoid burning off too much sugar.
still waiting for my results.
pomegranate / 3212 posts
Ok! Not so bad after all! My drink was fruit punch flavored and chilled and my midwife said a big reason so many people hate the drink is cause some get it lukewarm. Yuck. It wasn't tasty but definitely not as bad as I thought it would be. The worst part was just being bored for the hour you have to wait until they take your blood. I'm supposed to hear back tomorrow or Monday...
Oh and she said I had five minutes to drink it. So no chugging which was nice. Also it was called GlucoCRUSH! which I thought was pretty funny.
nectarine / 2750 posts
@knittylady: Yea! That is good news. I decided to forgo the test and take my blood sugar for a couple weeks after meals. I posted about it here - http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/alternative-to-the-glucose-screen
I only have two days left and I am so over it. I feel like my numbers are fine so I am just ready to quit already.
My birth class starts on Monday and I have an appt. Tuesday so next week is a big baby week!
@LazyLightning: Sorry about your dream that is the worst, when you just can't shake it. Here's to good dreams tonight!

DH finally felt the baby kick today for the first time. He said he didn't know how I do it because it was so weird. But he was excited
Did anyone order a glider from Buy Buy Baby? We ordered ours on December 31 and we haven't heard anything yet. I guess the 10-12 week estimate is accurate.
Last but not least, it's March! We are having babies in three months. I am in disbelief.
nectarine / 2750 posts
@swedishfish: I am with you on that - less than three months now until my due date, I absolutely cannot believe it. I can't wait to see pictures of everybody's little babies!
We don't have a Buy Buy Baby anywhere nearby so I didn't get anything there. 10-12 weeks is a long time to wait. Can they give you any more accurate estimate if you contact them?
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@tlcbaby: I might give them a call but Babies R Us couldn't tell us when our furniture was being delivered to the store so I'm assuming Buy Buy Baby will be the same way. But maybe they'll surprise me.
I have all these coupons to Babies R Us and I'm itching to buy some baby stuff. DH really needs to hide them from me.

@swedishfish: I can't believe it! Its crazy!
@knittylady: Congrats! Fingers crossed I get the same results tomorrow.
I am SO scared about my GD test tomorrow. I've gained 7 pounds since my last appointment, despite taking pains to eat an extremely healthy non-processed diet with only 1-2 cheat meals a week. I don't appreciate the tricks my pregnant body pulls on me!
I may end up with a May baby if my SPD doesn't stabilize. My hips and pelvis are literally popping out of alignment every day, and my doctor isn't comfortable with the thought of me pushing and doing additional damage. My June natural birth plan may turn into a May c-section. Super disappointed.
pomegranate / 3212 posts
@grizz: I'm sorry about a potential change in birth plan. Keep us updated for sure. Is there anyway to help the SPD? Exercises and such?
I'll have FX for a good GD result for you tomorrow! I had gained 5 pounds in two weeks when I went in for my test and was convinced this would equal diabetes. Somehow no! Good luck!

@tlcbaby: Let us know what the birth class is like!! I'm signing up for one soon and am so curious!
papaya / 10473 posts
@knittylady: I'm working my butt off at physical therapy 3-4 times a week, so I'm hopeful and so are my OB and PT!
@tlcbaby: @knittylady: Our natural birth class starts the first weekend in April and I'm so excited! Even if I can't use all of it due to the SPD issues, I think it'll help me stay calm and focused, etc.
Is anyone taking a breastfeeding class or a newborn care class? I'm starting to feel so overwhelmed that after a day or two in the hospital, I get to take home a human that DH and I are solely responsible for feeding and caring for. I'm terrified! DH even asked me... "Don't we get a booklet or instruction manual or something?" haha!
pomegranate / 3212 posts
@grizz: I'm going to sign up for a breastfeeding class and an infant cpr/first aid class. DH is going to go to "Daddy bootcamp" which is where first time dad's come in with their newborns to show expecting dads how to hold them, soothe them and change their diapers. I'm excited for him to take it!

Our first birth class was last night and I really loved it. There were about 10 other couples and we were all first time parents. We got right into it and talked about what causes pain in labor and what we can do to ease pain during labor. She even had us getting in different positions on the floor to see what made our hips feel more open.
We have homework, too. We are reading "The Birth Partner" and we have to bring lotion next week so our partner can practice massage, which I am quite excited about.
We plan to take a breastfeeding class through the hospital, although the last night of this class covers breastfeeding and infant care.
@knittylady: I love the "Daddy Boot Camp" idea, I should see if they have something like that around here.

I just finished my first appointment with my new OB. LOVED her, which put my mind at ease. I just didn't click with my old one. Got my rhogam shot, my glucose test, and all that other fun stuff....AND got in trouble for weight gain. Oops
pomegranate / 3212 posts
@grizz: Yeah, I have an appointment with the nutritionist tomorrow. I'm gonna be in trouble AGAIN! But hooray for new OB!
@tlcbaby: Massage in the childbirth class?!? Yessssss
nectarine / 2750 posts
@grizz: I am glad you found someone you like. Definitely someone you want to have a good relationship with!
@knittylady: I keep waiting for them to say something about my weight gain, but they don't bring it up so neither do I. My hopes of keeping it under 40lbs are fading away, though.
I'll probably have to make my husband practice the massage as homework...just to make sure he is doing it right
papaya / 10473 posts
@tlcbaby: massage during your class sounds amazing!
@knittylady: @tlcbaby: My hopes of keeping my weight gain under 40 are dimming too. She was really kind about my weight gain and offered helpful suggestions, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to be in the above 40 club.

Hi June bugs!! Hope your all feeling great! At this point, I feel the best I've felt during this pregnancy. I've been feeling baby move and kick and I swear he's swimming laps in there. It's so fun to watch my tummy move!
@grizz: how far along are you? I also need to get the rhogam shot. I'm sure ill get it soon.
@tlcbaby: I'm so excited for our birth classes in a few weeks!! And I hope we get massages too!!!

Still no comment from my midwife on my weight, that is good for me, I guess! I was measuring 29cm which she said is right on, even for 27 1/2 weeks. The only sucky thing at today's appt. was the sharp pain I have been having in my upper abdomen is probably my gallbladder. She said it is easier for things to get backed up in there because our digestive systems are just more sluggish than usual. So I might have to give up some of my yummy bacon and eggs for more bland foods and see if that helps. That is quite depressing to me, though!
@jh524: I could see my stomach moving while my midwife was checking the baby's heartbeat, it was so funny! Also, my belly was really lopsided today, like the baby was over to one side.
papaya / 10473 posts
@jh524: I am 27 weeks! This was my last monthly appointment - I go every 2 weeks now! Crazy how close we're all getting.
