@swedishfish: so sorry about your glucose test experience. I hope they won't make you do it again. Sounds awful.

I bought a messenger bag from eBags that we're using as a diaperbag. Have a PPB clutch that goes inside it. It's just a plain black bag, so my husband will be fine with carrying it too. Mainly i like that it's very very lightweight. So many of the bags are very heavy.

I have my 30 week appt next week. My main concern right now is that my hands and feet have started swelling a lot. No more rings for me. It's especially my right foot though, and when I elevate it it goes to sleep (wtf)? Also have trouble breathing when sitting up or doing things like putting on a shoe or driving the car. Standing/lying down is no problem though.

I'm a bit worried about this though googling tells me all is normal.

@LazyLightning: I can barely breath ever now, especially sitting up. Forget putting on my shoes, not that I can even do that anymore! But if I'm just the slightest bit slouched, I lose my breath. Your diaphragm and your lungs are squished so definitely normal!

@LazyLightning: I can't breathe when I put my shoes on either! And if they're not slip on or pull on, DH has to buckle/tie/strap them. Mortifying haha

Total lurker just popping in to say hi and keep up the good baby-growing work. I had my son in June 2012, so I was exactly where you are now....just 1 year ago. From the photos I've seen, you all look amazing. Hang in there and treat yourselves well.

@lazylightning - im hitting 27 weeks and i cant breathe, ever. I also started swelling too - mostly in my hands right now (though not too bad just yet) and my dr (whom i saw yesterday) said it's perfectly fine and normal and to get used to them because it'll get worse... whomp whomp! she said i'll soon notice ankle and foot swelling =(
    hang in there!

@jh524: Bahaha, I have no idea. The phlebotomist (sp?) said she's never seen anyone so up and down. I'm special?

@LazyLightning: My feet swell at times too. I cannot put on my boots by myself usually. And bending over to even put on sneakers is an adventure these days!

@pregnantbee: thank you so much for sharing your story!! I hope I can have a story similar to yours, except maybe the geyser...lol. I've been reading some about doulas and going to look into it more...I want to keep an open mind about the laboring process but be prepared for the worst. I'm hoping for a unmedicated birth like yours....keep fingers crossed!!!! I loved your story, thanks.

@jh524: You're very welcome. I hope that writing it up will help others feel it is possible if that's the way you want to go. Of course, we all need to be prepared to switch gears quickly if necessary! Let me know if you have any questions -- am happy to help.

@LazyLightning: No swelling, but I do have random days where the entire day goes by and I feel like I just can't get a good breath. I guess everything is just getting squished in there.

I do think the baby has moved or something because my chest pain is almost completely gone. Maybe the baby rearranged itself in there a bit and is pushing on something else now.

I just realized I never updated after my doctor's appointment last week. The good news is that the doctor does not want me to take the three hour test for a third time. I've been tracking my blood sugar levels four times a day since then (fasting and two hours after every meal) and so far they've been normal. I have a follow up appointment this Thursday. I really hope I don't have to do this for the rest of the pregnancy though.

    @Sweethart: Welcome!

@swedishfish: I only had to do it for two weeks - after two weeks of normal numbers, they felt comfortable letting me go the rest of the time without it.

I know we were talking about shower dresses recently and I think I found one! I got the pink one. Here is the link -

@Tlcbaby: Thanks I have to say I'm very jealous of you ladies who have access to all these great maternity stores/sections. We have very limited options where I live and I'm starting to search for a shower dress. I hope I can maybe find a non-maternity one that will fit the bump and not end up too short.

@tlcbaby: that dress is so cute and comfy looking!

@Sweethart: welcome! When is your due date?

    nectarine / 2750 posts

@Sweethart: I had to order it online. One of our local Old Navy's has a maternity section but it is tiny! I bet you could find something non-maternity, especially if you looked at maxi dresses or something similar.

just popping in to say hi...i'm officially in the third trimester this week and all is well. passed the glucose test, not anemic, hanging in there in general. craving random things like pudding (any flavor), and anything with frank's red hot. probably gaining more weight than i would like (see mention above of pudding and frank's red hot), but hey, as long as baby girl is growing well, i am happy as a clam.

@tinypiglet: hi!! i'm right behind you but have my glucose test, rhogam shot next week!

So I experienced my first "real "belly toucher over the weekend except my close relative decided to push on my stomach, as if my doctor, to try and feel the baby. It was uncomfortable and i said nicely," oh, your gonna squish him!" And stepped away ..like hint, hint....don't do that!!!! She tried multiple times. Have you experienced this belly pusher before!!??

  26. swedishfish

    GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts

@jh524: don't you love it when people don't get the hint? I've had several random belly touchers at work but thankfully no belly pushers yet! I don't even like pushing on my belly.

Been away from this thread for a while! Sounds like more or less everyone is doing well. I'll be 31w on Saturday and am just hanging in there.... I'm also looking for a baby shower dress, and am leaning toward a maxi dress, just hoping it will be warm enough here in the Northeast. My shower is a surprise but will likely be sometime in the second half of April.

@tinypiglet: ditto the Frank's Red Hot - I liked it before but absolutely love it now!

@jh524: The belly pusher sounds so disturbing, gross. Thankfully I have not experienced that.

    @Sweethart: Welcome! What's your EDD?

  28. Boheme

    papaya / 10473 posts

@jh524: I HATE that! A friend tried to do it and I literally slapped her hand off of me. It hurt her feelings, but she doesn't need to be pushing and prodding on my belly or my baby!

@Revel: I'm shopping for a maxi for my shower too! I want to get a cardigan or jean jacket to cover my arms too... They aren't exactly in Michelle Obama shape right now

I saw the nurse practitioner yesterday and left in tears. Last week the doctor and I agreed that I would test my blood sugars for the week to see how they were. When I went in yesterday there was already a note on my file saying I'm being treated as a gestational diabetic. Um, what? That's not what we agreed to plus my numbers so far have been fine. This is all because I am refusing to take the three hour test for a third time this pregnancy...which I didn't even fail the second time!!!!

Now I need to see an endocrinologist and I'll be testing my blood sugars for the rest of the pregnancy. I see yet another doctor in the practice next week so I think I'll discuss the office's lack of communication with her then.

Oh, I may also have to do a 24 hour urine catch next week if my blood pressure is high in the office. I have white coat syndrome which goes away as I get to know a doctor but since I've been bounced around here it's been high the last two appointments. I take it everyday at home due to the white coat syndrome and it's fine. There's no protein in my urine either. I feel like this office is going overboard and I regret switching practices at this point.

@swedishfish: I'm so sorry. Your appointments shouldn't be something you dread, especially getting near the end when we have to go so much. I wish there was something I could say, I guess just be glad you don't have much longer to go. And just listen to your body - if you are testing your levels at home and they are normal you can feel assured you don't have GD, even if they make you do it the rest of the pregnancy.

Has anyone found a pediatrician yet? We are interviewing one this week, but I am nervous because we want to do a delayed vaccination schedule and I am not sure how they will feel. I hope they can at least suggest another ped. to us if it isn't something they support.

@tlcbaby: We are moving this week (DREAD!) but looking for a pediatrician is high on our to-do list once we get settled. I have a few places/docs in mind but I still have to make appointments for meetings. Wishing you good luck with yours this week. Let us know if you figure out some good questions to ask. My mom suggested asking about how they handle care/calls after hours, if needed. And I'm definitely looking for someone who is very supportive of breastfeeding and won't just jump to suggesting formula with the slightest drop in weight.

@knittylady: Thanks so much! So glad your move went well! I've been helping with packing, but I'm afraid I won't be much help with the actual moving since I'm under doc's orders not to lift anything. But, I'm chomping at the bit to set up a nursery for LO. Can't wait!

@GreenThumb: Yeah I helped a lot in the second trimester with packing, so it's been frustrating not to be able to UNpack. I try and then get worn out or worse - get pains in my lower abdomen or back which in turn freaks me out and blah blah, vicious cycle. But yeah, I'd say that's been the hardest part - wanting to do more than I can...

You can focus on being a really good delegator! (sp??) And do all the nice setting up stuff that doesn't involve stuff over 10 pounds.

@tlcbaby: thanks for the advice. I had just had it last week. I feel a little better about everything today. Hopefully everything goes well this week.

We are going to try DH's former pediatrician's practice. We met with one of the doctors last month and I liked her a lot. The office is only five minutes from our house. If the pediatrician doesn't want to do a delayed vaccination schedule then definitely shop around until you find someone who will!

I took this questionnaire with me but we really just chatted. It was still helpful though. http://assets.babycenter.com/ims/Content/first-year-health-guide_doctor_interview.pdf

    nectarine / 2750 posts

@GreenThumb: I have heard its good to ask about after hours calls, too. One of my pregnancy journals has a list which is probably waaay too comprehensive, but I am going to bring it with me because I am sure there are some that I would like to ask.

@swedishfish: That is a good questionnaire. Like you said, I am sure it will be more of a conversation than an interview. I am sure they are used to these appointments and know the questions that most people want answered. That is nice that you have a pediatrician you already want to use. I am trying to go off recommendations from a few friends that are in this area, but most of my friends don't have kids or they live on the other end of town, which would be too far for us.

I thought reading Dr. Sears Vaccine Book would make me feel more informed to make a choice re: vaccines but it is actually just making me afraid of the diseases and the vaccines! Typical new mom worries, I'm sure. And once I have the baby I am sure I will realize there are so many things that are out of my control, but it is really hard not to worry about all the things out there that could be harmful to your baby.

Confession: I keep hoping I'll go in to the doctor and they'll tell me something's wrong with me and put me on bedrest for the rest of my pregnancy. I don't even care that this would cost us money (my leave is unpaid) or anything. I feel bad but man, it's true. I'm so frustrated and feel like I've hit a major wall.

I'm just in so much pain, so many varying kinds of pain. Everything I do is a serious chore, even trying to get socks on or combing my hair. I *feel* like there has to be something wrong with me. But in spite of all this, my bloodwork and urine are always "perfect".

@lazylightning - how far along are you (sorry im too lazy to scroll through the posts to find the answer! =X).

What kind of pain are you in? im sure you told your dr - but they said it's "normal" (cause that's what they say to me about everything). hang i there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =T

@LazyLightning: Are you me?! Or am I you?! I'm seriously in so much pain and I am so over being pregnant. My ribs hurt, I'm swollen, my hips click in and out of their sockets at will, I have heartburn, and morning sickness has made a triumphant return.

I had a new patient this morning who told me I am huge, and it took every bit of restraint in my body not to punch her.

    @juliekim: 31 weeks. Yep it's all normal.

    A sampling:
--knees too weak to even get up from sitting (such as, on the TOILET even). they 'scream' in protest when i go up and down the stairs.
    --rib pain
--both hands are not only numb in places, but sore (like a bruise) along the tops of them and around the joints.
--one foot is swollen, but not the other. the ankle is too.
--my belly constantly feels like it has 'sideaches', and it also feels bruised all over (like its too tender to touch - when baby kicks, it kills, and if i bump it on something (like trying to reach in to the closet), it hurts like someone punched a bruise.
--i get horrific leg and foot cramps multiple times a day. once it happened while driving and i had to pull over.
--i feel like i'm drowning, my lungs are so compressed. (And if i try to take a deep breath, baby kicks me in the diaphram/lungs to get me to quit it. lol)
--my heart races a few times a day, for 5-10 minutes a day - i feel like i just finished a brutal insanity workout when really i'm just sitting there. It makes me nauseous and lightheaded.
--I also get braxton hicks that are so painful, they burn and take my breath away, bring tears to my eyes.

there are a few other "tmi" type things too.

All of this is "normal". My pee is normal, my blood is normal, I don't have GD, and my blood pressure at my last appt was 99/60 (so no pre-e). He checked my swollen leg and said if it was a clot it'd have redness or hurt, so it's just random one-sided swelling. The knees are a result of me having gained nearly 50 lbs and already had iffy/not good knees before pregnancy. I had an NST due to the painful contractions and the baby was 'normal'. I had a fibronectin swab that showed i am not in any kind of labor/prelabor (again, due to the painful contraction). And i had a cervix check - closed and long.

    SO yeah, "normal". Ugh.

Oh and not that this isn't TMI but my nipples are leaking like CRAZY. I'm taking an ounce or two a few times a day. enough to soak through my bra and get several inches of my shirt wet. god forbid i forget to wear nipple pads. I woke up in the middle of the night last night with the front of my nightgown totally soaked, as if I'd spilled a glass of water on it.
