We had our first shower yesterday, and it was wonderful! Of course gifts are great, but I think my favorite parts were seeing how genuinely excited our friends and family are, and the cards. So many of our friends took the time to write words of wisdom, encouragement, etc in them...I got choked up every time I opened one!

@tlcbaby: oh no! I've noticed my hands falling asleep at night but they're alright during the day. I hope it gets better for you.

@swedishfish: Nope! Everyone tried really really hard to get me to crack but we held firm

@grizz: Your shower sounds great! Mine is this weekend, excited to see what they've been planning Also, that's great that you think baby is head down! I feel hiccups really low and she is head down so I think that's a good sign.
@tlcbaby, @swedishfish: the arms falling asleep and pain sounds unpleasant. Isn't carpal tunnel syndrome a pregnancy side effect sometimes? I notice my arms and legs fall asleep very frequently these days but there is no lingering pain.
I got my tdap shot last week - my arm has been so sore! I know the recommendation for doing it during pregnancy is relatively recent, but it seemed worth doing now rather than right after birth. My midwives suggested it but did not push it the way they did the flu shot. Is anyone else getting the shot before baby comes?

@swedishfish: I had the SAME experience with the bad cramping. I could even time them, like 10 minutes apart lasting a minute or so each time. So if course when I went in to the Dr, it totally stopped during my NSTs and they think I'm a big baby who can't handle mild braxton hicks. And yes, they told me to drink more water. I already drink nearly a gallon a day, if not over that.
Also I didn't catch whose arms were falling asleep but mine are too. It's such a bummer! My feet do too, when I am in basically any position except lying on one of my sides.

@Revel: I would like to get mine soon, but my OB hasn't mentioned it! I'm going to bring it up to her at my next visit. I also need to talk to DH about having his parents get one as well. They will see LO often and his dad is always sick with something. DH got his at the beginning of my pregnancy because he was at the doctor for a physical anyway.

@Revel: I got mine at 28 weeks. The dr. told me it was standard practice to give it to you then (at our hospital). I also had one like 3 or 4 years ago but now they do it every pregnancy I guess. My husband got his about 2 or 3 weeks ago... my folks both have theirs too as do my in laws. So, I think we're good!

@grizz: I sort of had the same experience! They had the flyer about it in the waiting room, but no one mentioned it to me at my 32 week visit, so at my 34 week appoinment I asked about it, and they said, oh yeah, we are recommending that etc. Kind of strange because they practically forced the flu shot on me at every early visit. Maybe it's because the recommendation is relatively new?
@LazyLightning: I heard the same thing about getting one every pregnancy now. Mine said anytime before 36 weeks is ideal to allow the immunities to build up.
SO hasn't gotten one yet, I should have him look into that. My mom works in healthcare so I believe she will have had one. I'm on the fence about asking all the grandparents to get it or not.

Belly check.
Haven't got anything from the last two weeks but look out. Freighter on the loose. Honk Honk. I am constantly getting "you're due any day now huh!" or "don't have the baby RIGHT HERE, OK?"
nectarine / 2750 posts
@Revel: I haven't heard anything about getting the tdap shot before the baby is born. I might have to ask about that one, but since it hasn't come up I might see what they recommend for both DH and I as far as getting a booster.
@LazyLightning: I asked my midwife today about the hands falling asleep and she said all the extra fluid in your body just puts pressure on different nerves and can cause numbness and carpal tunnel symptoms that should go away when the baby is born.
I'll have to put a belly progression together and post it!

@LazyLightning: You look great! We're in the home stretch - at this point we can sort the weight gain out later, at least that's what I'm trying to remind myself. I HATE getting on the scale though.
@tlcbaby: That was what I remembered hearing about carpal tunnel - that it was fluid related.
Happy to report that my arm was only sore for a few days from the TDAP. I just really feel large these days. My baby shower is this weekend and I'm hoping I don't feel like a total cow

Had my last 'biweekly' doctor appointment yesterday. He'll be seeing me every week from here on out. Normally he'd do one more biweekly, but with some of the concerns I've had (leakage (but tested negatively for amniotic so wtf), cramping, swelling, pretty bad heart racing, etc), I've been in basically every week for the past month anyway so he just asked if I'd like to start the weekly appts one session early. (Ok!)

I had my first bout of maybe cramping last night? It was my lower back really but it felt just like my lower back feels when I'm getting AF... went away after 5 minutes or so. I'll mention it at next check up just in case. It's weird that we're now at the stage where it's not crazy to look for labor signs... whoa.
pear / 1664 posts
@knittylady: yes - crazy! I've had so much cramping lately. Some is for sure Braxton Hicks, other is more severe. Then it's like "well, is that intestinal cramping or...?" I for one am glad to be nearing the end!

Can you believe it's almost the end of April? I'm getting excited/nervous. I am relieved that I am not being put on insulin yet. I go back to the endocrinologist next week. My fasting numbers have risen but today's was a little better.

I can't believe it either!!! I am having more and more BH contractions (especially after working out) and last night they were strong enough that I dreamt I was in labor.
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@tlcbaby: Ah, that's scary! Tell that baby to stay put! I love when the doctor's office asks if I've been having contractions. I have no idea as I've never done this before!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@swedishfish: Haha, really! I am pretty sure I'll be like everyone else who doesn't realize they are in labor for a while. My contractions still don't hurt at all so I still think they are just practice.
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@tlcbaby: Wouldn't it be great to go through most of labor without even realizing it?

Okay, here is my little progression - this was 9 weeks, 21 weeks and 34 weeks (this past week)!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@swedishfish: I was reading one of Ina May's books last night and there was a chapter about women who felt pleasure during labor instead of pain...even orgasmic births. I doubt I'll be that lucky!
papaya / 10473 posts
@Revel: I saw my baby shower pics and was shocked at how big I look as compared to how big I *think* I look. Its safe to say I was being delusional! haha!
@knittylady: I felt like that when I woke up this morning. DH had to help me out of bed and I wasn't sure if I slept wrong, had some bad back cramping, or if it was a labor sign. It was definitely very weird!
@swedishfish: @tlcbaby: I have no idea what contractions feel like either! My doctor asks me at every appointment and I tell her the same thing every time. I could've been having them for a month now for all I know One of my friends is due a few days before me and got a non-stress test yesterday. She had 3 big contractions over the course of the hour, and she didn't even feel them!
pear / 1563 posts
@knittylady: @LazyLightning: @tlcbaby: Count me in the bunch having more BH and cramping, but having no idea what the h*ll is actually going on! The cramping like before AF is the weirdest thing to me - I actually called the nurse line about it yesterday and she basically just told me to drink water. Apparently that's the answer to all 3rd tri problems.
tlcbaby, love your progression, you look fantastic! I also read that chapter in Ina May's book and while I am planning a natural birth and trying to be open minded, I couldn't help but laugh.
pear / 1563 posts
@grizz: We cross posted but I was just thinking about it this morning - I have NO sense of how big I am and unless a pic comes in at just the right angle, I am surprised to see how large I am. I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed for this weekend that I feel good and can destroy the evidence
papaya / 10473 posts
@tlcbaby: @Revel: Another natural birth planner here, and Ina May's books and documentaries totally freak my husband out. You should see his face in birth class when we read the books/watch her films. Sheer terror. Thank goodness most of our assigned reading is Bradley Method because its a level of crunchy that he can handle Ina May is out of his league.
nectarine / 2750 posts
@grizz: So he doesn't want to make out through each of your contractions?
papaya / 10473 posts
@Revel: One of my coworkers has harrassed me constantly about getting maternity pics, and even contacted her friend who is a photographer and gave her my phone number. I can't get her to understand I do NOT want photographic evidence of my manatee-like state! Much less pay someone to document it.
pear / 1563 posts
@grizz: Yeah, SO has NOT read the Ina May book.... the birth videos in our class were enough for him. I wasn't interested in maternity photos either - we're not really photo shoot people to begin with, and I wasn't about to start with my pregnancy. I do love looking at people's photos and think they are really beautiful, but I couldn't think of what I would possibly do with my photos. Your coworker needs to STFU.
@tlcbaby: HA! Dying... SO would think I was insane.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@swedishfish: Today the nurse practitioner told me if I'm having more than 4 contractions in an hour to call the office. I've had, maybe, 4 contractions in the past month that I've actually realized? And then maybe I'm not too sure? She told me to find a soft spot on my belly that is usually soft and press. If it is tight, then it is a contraction.
I can't imagine that I would have any possibility of going into labor anytime before full term. This kid is so high in my belly, I could swear he's playing astronaut in there.
@tlcbaby Great pics! I like how you wore the same(ish) outfit each time. I wish I had thought of that!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@Espion: Thanks - the only downside is I never wear that sweater so I have to always go put it on for the pictures, which is sometimes a pain. But I am sure I'll be glad afterwards!

Ok ladies, so do you know about this mucous plug and when your suppose to lose it? I'll spare you the details but I "discarded" something yesterday that made me google mucous plug when I got home...which I don't recommend googling the images. But I'm kinda wondering if this is info I need to share w my doc. Or just not worry about it...
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@jh524: When are you due? There are a lot of June mamas! I would call them today just to get their opinion. Better safe than sorry.
Here, read this: http://americanpregnancy.org/labornbirth/mucusplug.html
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@tlcbaby: haha, I think an orgasmic birth would be great as it would be less painful but quite awkward with everyone else around!!
pear / 1664 posts
@jh524: how exciting! Yeah... I googled the images a week or so ago. *Gag.*
pear / 1632 posts
@swedishfish: I'm due June 25th, almost 32 weeks... @LazyLightning: should I be excited??!! It kinda freaks me out.. I don't want things to start happening yet....I'm not ready.. Eek!!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@jh524: I would definitely call, but I wouldn't worry too much. I've heard it can grow back multiple times and that you can lose it weeks before you go into labor. Again, though, definitely worth talking to your doctor just in case.
It really makes you think that this is all actually happening and we'll have a bunch of babies soon
