@tlcbaby: I've heard this too. I think I've read about it on here even, maybe do a search just to read what others have experienced?

@jh524: I also googled the images. Almost made me not want to finish my chocolate...almost!

@jh524: haha yes but good to know what I should be looking for in the coming weeks!

@jh524: I've read that the mucous plug can come out and then another one forms... but yeah at 32 weeks, maybe call just to be sure? I probably would. Me being a bit over 35 weeks and unbelievably antsy to stop feeling soooo bad, I'd be doing a big ol happy dance if I lost it!
nectarine / 2750 posts
Okay so what I have learned from this is I WILL NOT be googling mucous plug
We had dinner with my Dad last night and he got us our pack n play. It was one of the last things I felt like we really needed (so we can have somewhere to lay the baby down and change it downstairs and not have to run up to the nursery all the time) and I am really feeling ready.
I even started packing my hospital bag yesterday just so I'm not caught at the last minute rushing to do it. I think I inherited that from my mom - she is an uber-planner!

@tlcbaby: I'm going to start packing mine today!
DH and I are a wee bit nervous and have been reading ahead in our Bradley class books because I've been having a dull, throbbing, crampy back pain for several days now. It could be just end of pregnancy back pain, but I don't want to get surprised either Now watch baby arrive two weeks late now that we're concerned he might come early!
pomegranate / 3212 posts
@grizz: I've had some back pain similar to PMS back pain at night every few nights and it freaks me out!! I was thinking I should pack my hospital bag sooner rather than later, which blows my mind. How are we here already??
DH was born at 35 weeks and that's what I am come Thursday. Yikes.
Oh, what are you ladies having your LO's sleep in when they come home? Their crib in the nursery or your room? Bassinet? Other?
nectarine / 2750 posts
@grizz: I just keep trying to convince myself that the baby is going to come late so I don't get too anxious because really I would love to meet him or her in 3 or 4 weeks as opposed to 7 weeks! But my husband keeps saying he thinks it will get here early, so did my dad last night. Nobody knows but the baby I guess.
pear / 1664 posts
@grizz: I have no signs of labor, yet I'm so, so hoping the baby will come soon. My mom had me right before she reached 36 weeks, and my husband was born 2 weeks early. I'm just so miserably sick. I did a quick search and I guess some women can have 'stomach flu like symptoms' for weeks before they give birth - that's what's happening to me, it seems. Last night was the worst yet - I'm exhausted today having spent most of the night in the bathroom. Ugh.

@tlcbaby: what are you packing in your hospital bag?
Is anyone planning on bringing an iPad to the hospital? My mother thinks I should leave it at home but I want something to distract me if I end up with an epidural.
nectarine / 2750 posts
@swedishfish: Here is what I have...including the iPad!
2 nursing tops
2 yoga pants
nightgown (easy access for breastfeeding)
slipper socks
one of those old navy foldover skirts to go home in (maybe)
flip flops
nursing bra
nursing pads
underwear (wishful thinking, i am sure i'll be wearing the mesh)
toothbrush, toothpaste, floss
shower stuff, lotion, etc
hair holders, hairdryer, hairbrush
makeup (i know it's vain, but i know people will be taking pics)
baby book
phone
ipod
ipad
chargers
cash
baby book (for footprints, handprints if they will do it there)
name list (in case we draw a blank on our favorites)
robe
snacks
water
insurance card and id
For baby:
2 sleepers and a onesie (not sure what will fit the baby?)
hat
socks
burp cloths
blanket
car seat
For my husband:
change of clothes
snacks
comfort measures for labor (rice sock, pictures to focus on, handouts from birth class on positions to try, etc.)
toiletries
list of ppl to call
birth plan
I think the iPad will be nice to have for photos and videos we may want to send to his parents (they won't be here until later in the month) and just to have the internet available if we want it for some reason.

@tlcbaby:
Thank you for this list!! I'm going to be getting my hospital bag together really soon too. Planned to do it this weekend but I don't know if I'll get around to it (still feeling a bit yucky). Also, crazy to think that if my pregnancy was my mom's pregnancy, I would be having my baby this week! (Even though I was born before 36 weeks, her water broke naturally and I was perfectly healthy and nearly 7 lbs...)

Also yeah, I'll for sure be bringing makeup. Not like, full date night makeup, but touchup, shine powder, eyeliner. Like you said, so many photos being taken!

@knittylady: DH was born at 32 weeks and it blows my mind that I'm already three weeks past that! Our LO will be in a pack n play beside our bed for a while.
pear / 1632 posts
@knittylady: using a bassinet next to our bed for a short time then ill begin using the crib.
I've found some cool links and blogs on Pinterest for things to pack for the hospital and great breastfeeding tips too!! Check it out. Is anyone else on here on Pinterest??
pomegranate / 3212 posts
@jh524: yep! I was just looking at freezer friendly meals on pinterest and am printing my favorites out now!
pear / 1632 posts
@knittylady: oh I know those freezer meals are the way to go!! If only I could get the motivation to actually put some together before baby arrives.....sure would be helpful! But I usually get focused on pinning desserts , hehe!
papaya / 10473 posts
@tlcbaby: Awesome list! I may use it as a cheat sheet if you don't mind
@jh524: I love, love, love Pinterest! I will need to start looking up breastfeeding tips. Its occurred to me recently that I've been so focused on birthing this baby that I have no idea what I'm going to do with him after he gets here lol... I need to get on that!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@jh524: I am tarahridesasike on Pinterest - I'd love to see what you've found!
@knittylady: I've been doing the freezer meals too! I just started last night - I prepared all the meat and veggies for two big batches of stew and when we are ready to cook I can just throw it in the crock pot with some broth. I am going to try and make a few a week.
@grizz: Of course I don't mind! I kind of meshed it together from a bunch of lists I found online. I am sure I have some stuff I'll never use, but I don't think it is too much either. Just one bag for me and one bag for my husband.
papaya / 10473 posts
@knittylady: You inspired me to make a freezer meal I made a pan of low fat enchiladas for DH and I and went ahead and made another pan to freeze since we can get 2-3 meals out of one pan. I think the entire month of May every time I make something that freezes well I'm just going to double the recipe.

So the baby shower this weekend was awesome! As expected we got a lot of clothes (baby girl) but also a fair amount of our practical needs taken care of, which was very generous. Now I need to start on the organization and you ladies have also reminded me that I need to get going on freezer meals and packing my hospital bag. Can't believe less than 5 weeks to go!
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@Revel: I'm glad your shower went well!
Is anyone banking their baby's cord blood/cord blood and tissue?
papaya / 10473 posts
@swedishfish: We can't because we are choosing to do delayed cord clamping, so there won't be much left.
pear / 1563 posts
@swedishfish: Thanks! Did you have yours yet? As I recall your shower was a surprise also? I ended up figuring out the date of mine because of various factors, but I was still in the dark about the details.
We don't plan to bank the cord blood. For us, the benefit to baby of delayed cord clamping outweighed the possible benefit to a future LO of having the cord blood, given that we don't know if we'll have a second, so we opted not to spend the money to do it.

@tlcbaby: re: bunch of babies soon...I agree, it is just *wild*! I'm starting to realize that I'm going to have to mentally prepare myself for the "just in case" scenario of delivering early. (Which I doubt, but at 34 weeks, the time flies by!) I guess that means I need to pack a bag too...
Please tell me everyone has seen this:

Normally the gifs drive me a little nuts, but some of them are so spot on, I couldn't help but laugh!

@Revel: my baby shower is this weekend. DH gave it away accidentally. I'm excited but I need to find an outfit to wear!
@Espion: that tumblr is hilarious!
I have a doctor's appointment on Wednesday so I think I will ask about the benefits of delayed cord clamping instead of cord blood banking. It is so expensive to bank the cord blood - about $2500 for just the blood. If I wanted to bank the blood and tissue it would cost over $3000.
We just found out that our insurances will not pay for more than six months storage of our embryos. We just paid over $400 for storage through the end of the year. It will cost $600 for storage for all of 2014 so this moves up trying to get pregnant with #2. I'm a little overwhelmed by that!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@Revel: Glad your shower was fun and you got lots of good stuff for your little girl!
@swedishfish: We are not doing the cord blood. I don't have a strong opinion about it one way or the other so I just never put too much thought into it. My main opinion about it is that it is expensive! Also, we plan to do delayed cord clamping.
@Espion: Oh, I haven't seen that yet! Too funny!
pomegranate / 3212 posts
@swedishfish: Can you even believe it?!?! Agh! I am feeling in no way prepared.... Yet so excited to meet this little guy!
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@knittylady: I think I'll feel more prepared after my "surprise" shower this weekend and I know what I still need to purchase.
@grizz: I can't stop cleaning which is so unlike me!!!
@yourekindapretty: yay!!!
papaya / 10473 posts
@knittylady: @swedishfish: Me too! I have a shower this weekend and then its game on.
I just got the packet from our hospital about what I need to do and pay now that we're 30 days out from my due date. Whoa. Sh*t just got real

for those of you who mentioned cord blood banking - isn't it free if youre just donating it?

@Espion: haha, just scrolling through that tumblr now. favorite so far is "My 9-month pregnant wife trying to get off the couch."

we've been holding off on most of our baby prep until this month. we had our shower this past weekend, so now we know what gaps need to be filled from our registry. luckily, the majority of the gifts we received were from the registry.
bonus from our shower: a bunch of leftover cake and brownies, which we've been slowly making our way through =)
we're going to go with delayed cord clamping too. it will be highlighted on my birth plan, because it's not common practice with my OB group. and i'm going to make sure to remind them during labor every five minutes =)
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@softcream: Ha! I *totally* relate to that one.
@swedishfish: It's crazy because not only is it just a month, but we'll be full term by the mid/end of this month! Yeow. I wish I had a crystal ball that would allow me to either chill out or prepare... It's like we might as well call it our due month...
Is there a list of when everyone is due (since I came in here late)? We're due on the 8th with a "do not pass go" date of the 11th for either induction or scheduled c-section.
(Not something I want by any means, but it may be a necessity. DH will be leaving for a two-week military "camping trip" a few days later. The only thing that would make me truly upset/stressed going into all of this is if he couldn't be there. I can't imagine how the mamas with deployed husbands do it.)
