@swedishfish: It is still crazy to see this - I can't believe babies are already happening! And we are all so close.

@tlcbaby: I know! I cannot believe that tomorrow is June 1 - this is nuts!
Oh gosh, my ankles are officially gone. I guess that's what happens when it's over 85 degrees for two days in a row?

@swedishfish: Yay, thank you for adding me! I am proud to officially be a June momma! The May moms are amazing, but I love that this board is chattier I am so excited it is almost June which HAS TO officially mean baby month!!!

@tlcbaby, @swedishfish, @maybebaby: June has arrived and what a beautiful month to have a baby!!!! Can't believe it's here and can't believe babies are arriving!!! It went so slow yet so quick.... Wondering if grizz had her baby yet?!! Can't wait to here!! Who gonna be nnnnext? Revel? Or tlcbaby..... Maybebaby in 5 days!!!!!

@jh524: Thanks! I never imagined how hard it would be to potentially give up the "experience" of going through that rite of passage of timing contractions, deciding when to go to the hospital etc. I would read birth stories about mommas being so disappointed...and now I totally understand.
Ha! I was that med student once. I remember telling pregnant women out of the side of my mouth, "You know, you can say NO!" when the OB would nonchalantly say, "Now the student is going to check you" like she didn't have a choice. Not my favorite rotation!
@maybebaby: Welcome to the tribe! I'm still waiting on my OB friend's final opinion, but it seems like Flipper has hamstringed us both. Inducing a high baby scares me a little, because it is easier for the cord to get between the head and the cervix. (I think they would have to do cervidil, then break my water right away.) An elective c-section is so much better than an emergency one. The OB offered to induce me a week earlier than planned (which means we'd actually be induction buddies on the 5th). I may take him up on it, because if I have a section, at least I'll have DH home longer.
I spent all day up, walking around, doing hip circles, inversions, and pelvic tilts until I could do no more. Now I don't know if I'm just sore because of all the "exercise" or if the baby is any lower!
nectarine / 2177 posts
@Espion: Thank you! I totally understand your reservations about induction with a high baby. Hoping that some of your work paid off--any physical noticeable change in the belly?
Last night I kept feeling a weird trickle and I wondered if it was my waters leaking. It woke me up several times! But I really don't know and there is nothing happening contraction wise...
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@maybebaby: ooooohhhhh, maybe your water is breaking slowly! I hope contractions will start for you soon.
I just looked at DH and said we are having a baby THIS MONTH! I'm terrified.

@maybebaby: I checked mine with ph strips I bought at the Petco. They were like $10 for 25 of them so I could go all crazy testing every fluid leak. Pee and discharge are higher ph (lower number) -- amniotic fluid is lower ph (7 or 8 number).
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@LazyLightning: how are you feeling? How's that beautiful baby doing?
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@maybebaby: Maybe it is water breakage!! You can get a hindleak that trickles pretty slowly (as opposed to a gush). I never would have thought of @LazyLightning 's suggestion, but that's an awesome idea.
No real belly changes, but I've spent the morning obsessively searching "induction" on the boards and have come to terms with everything. Healthy baby is by far the most important. Can't wait to meet this little guy and start calling him something other than Flipper.
nectarine / 2750 posts
@maybebaby: Right! There is no denying that you will have a June baby now.
@Espion: Sorry that you have to make that decision. My sister has had to have planned c-sections with all of hers and there are definitely some benefits to being able to plan for baby's arrival. I know you lose some of the experience you were hoping for, but there are some pros, as well.
Have you heard of ICAN? http://www.ican-online.org/
I haven't looked into it too much, but I know they can offer support to women who have unexpected (or expected) c-sections. Also, in our birth class we spent some time talking about creating a birth plan for a c-section. You can still ask for immediate skin to skin and to have music playing etc. Something to think about if you do go that direction.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@tlcbaby: That's awesome, thanks for the link! Heh, I didn't think about music...I'll bring my iphone and mini-speaker. At least that is something I could control!
My sister had sections for both of hers and my mom had sections for all of hers...is it weird to say that I wanted to be different, lol?

I wanted to say thank you for all the congrats! I'm going to look and see if there's a May/June post-partum thread or similar, but wanted to come here with an update too of course.
My birth was... rough. It was a birth befitting my pregnancy, you might say. All I can say is I can't believe I didn't get a c-section (would have been the icing on the cake).
I ended up getting an infected 'uterine cavity' (according to discharge papers) from my membranes rupturing before starting labor (they had to start my labor with pitocin at the hospital, so my labor went 21 hours with broken water). I didn't know until then but you're not supposed to go more than about 12 hours between rupture and birth - that's why most women's tend not to break till they're in the hospital already in labor - those of us to whom it happens at home/work/out and about are a minority because it's not a good thing to have happen. Funny how movies/shows always focus on it.
Anyway, the pitocin made me feel very sick (dizzy/nauseous), I got terrible reflux due to having eaten a very small dinner that night - i was hungry before we even got to the hospital, we were about to go to bed when my water broke. And, the infection gave me a fever. When I had her my fever was 104 degrees.
She had a fever of 100, and her initial lab tests came back kinda poorly, so she ended up having a lumbar puncture (OMG) and will be in NICU till Tuesday. She is doing well and I don't have any reason to believe they'll extend her stay past that, so we have fingers and toes crossed.
Meanwhile, I HATE having her not here. But I also can barely move around or get in and out of chairs, or even go to the bathroom. I pushed for around an hour or a bit more, and I tore badly (doc waived between 'severe 2nd' and 'minor 3rd' degree, plus vaginal tearing). So getting good sleep in my own bed without baby duty isn't so bad for a few days. Still would rather have her home. Every time I leave her there I leave my heart with her.

@LazyLightning: oh mama, I am so sorry you had to go through so much and your LO has already had to go through so much in such a short time. Hopefully she will be home on Tuesday (not too far from now!) and you will be feeling better and ready to tackle the task of taking care of a baby. You went through so much with this pregnancy and now you get to heal and enjoy that beautiful baby girl

Here's my full 'birth story' :-). P.S. don't read it if you tend to get scared by bad ones!!!

@LazyLightning: I'm so glad you are on the other side, momma! Prayers that everything heals quicker than expected and your baby girl comes home soon, healthy and happy!

So much action on the board this morning! Feel like I can't catch up! I'll just say congrats again to the babies who are here! And that I'm not so secretly glad that baby Grizz is going to be a June baby so we have her in a future June Babies Board!
And a big old official welcome to @maybebaby and @sea_bass!
I love waking up every morning to see the action. Is it weird that I update DH when another "friend" starts labor? I'll say "oh a friend of mine is having contractions!"
As for me, starting to feel like little guy is as happy as can be right where he is.... Sigh.

@Espion: Sorry you're having to potentially change course. When people (midwives, friends, family etc.,) say that all this lack of control preps you for being a parent I want to scream and slap them, but I know they're right. Feel free to slap me.

@knittylady: Nah, because I know you're right too. I'm so glad I caved and had him check, though. So much better to mentally prepare now than face trouble later!
I seriously feel like nothing is happening either, but from my (now extensive) reading, you don't have to have prodromal labor to go into labor naturally. I'm just laughing at the fact that this kid is sooooo getting swaddled. He seems way too comfortable crammed in there!
Congrats @grizz! Perhaps @Revel is next??

CONGRATS @grizz on your baby boy!!! And @Revel....happy due date girl, your next!!! : )
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@revel: happy due date! And @tlcbaby: happy adjusted due date!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@LazyLightning: If there isn't a thread yet go get it started so we can all come join you there soon! I am so proud of you...you did awesome and you'll be feeling better and have your little girl there soon!
@knittylady: I do the same thing with my DH - I always tell him when someone else has had their baby or is going into labor. I don't have a lot of pregnant/mama friends so I share a lot more of that with you all than with my friends around here. I am definitely going to find a good mom's group to join when baby is born, though.
@swedishfish: Thanks - I feel like I should never have listened to my adjusted due date now since it seems nothing is happening today. Tuesday is my nephew's birthday so I know my sister is pulling for Tuesday anyway.

Is anyone else wishing that the stork really could bring a baby to you?
@knittylady: not weird at all! I talk to DH about HB all the time. I think he thinks I'm a little nuts though...but I am
nectarine / 2750 posts
@swedishfish: Like in Dumbo!
I find myself cleaning the house and doing laundry almost every day because I want it all to be in order in case I go into labor. I don't want to come home to a dirty house!
papaya / 10473 posts
@Espion: Hugs to you! My delivery actually did not go at all as planned (omg. My birth story is crazy), so I experienced a lot of the lack of control you're feeling. The upside? The nurses still stuck to everything on my birth plan that WAS safe and ok for me and baby. It made me feel like i still maintained some control and was respected as a patient and mother. I don't have any regrets or wistful feelings about my birth and I'm hoping the same for you if it goes down that path. At the end of it we have our babies in our arms and it's worth it Thinking of you!
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@grizz: You are terribly sweet to be even thinking of random internet girl when you've been through 32 hours of labo-r-ama! I'm realizing that we all have a story to tell, and if we knew exactly how it would play out, then where would be the adventure in that? I'm so glad you have your baby boy in your arms. You both made a family!
I can't wait until we rev up the post-partum thread!
pear / 1664 posts
@tlcbaby: hahaha, I did the same thing. Washed laundry and dishes constantly.
nectarine / 2750 posts
@LazyLightning: Ha I swear I get it from my Mom. She is such a neat freak. I keep making lists for DH of things I don't want to be thinking about when I go into labor so he does them, like, this weekend and I won't be worrying about them.
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@tlcbaby: yes, I just did another load of laundry today. It's the folding and putting it away part that I dislike!
nectarine / 2177 posts
@LazyLightning: Oh my goodness I am so sorry for the rough ride you've had and hoping baby is home with you as soon as possible. Hope you feel better as well!
@knittylady: hehe i do the same thing updating DH with baby news! he likes hearing how everyone is doing and all the updates.
Update with me--I've continued to feel this weird trickle, and I took an hour nap without a pad to give myself a little...fresh air...and I woke up with much of my undies soaked with clear fluid--still nothing that felt like a gush, just a trickle. I have a call in with the call-service for the midwives, because I am nervous it IS my waters and it's now been going on for 24 hours. I know he is really low and engaged, so it could be waters and they are just leaking...but I haven't had any contractions that haven't felt like BH, so I am pretty confused at this point. Just waiting for them to call back see what they want me to do.
In the meantime, DH and I had a really fun day distracting ourselves from the baby waiting game (41 weeks and 1 day, gotta do something to keep your mind occupied!) We went to an historic house and had a picnic, got ice cream, then saw a matinee in the freezing cold AC. It was perfect
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@maybebaby: hopefully you hear back from the midwives soon! If it is your waters, they'll take good care of you. I'm glad you were able to have a great date day with your DH.
pomegranate / 3212 posts
@maybebaby: maybe something happening! My midwife said that's often how water "breaks". In trickles!
Wonderful sounding day! Ice cream sounds perfect
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@maybebaby: It definitely could be something! This kid could be trying to outwit a scheduled induction. It sounds like you had a really lovely day!
(I saw "manatee in the freezing cold AC", and I thought poor manatee!)
@knittylady: I do the same thing, too! I updated DH about all the goings on over Mexican.
nectarine / 2177 posts
@Espion: LOLLL manatee! I love it.
OK, here is the scoop. Just talked to the midwife on call and they want us to come in, with bags packed in case, to test the fluid I'm leaking and check on the baby. Yikes! Even if this isn't it, pretty surreal to be headed to labor and delivery! I'll keep you posted
pomegranate / 3212 posts
@maybebaby: eee! Hope this is the start!! Can't wait to hear how it goes!
