All kinds of news in the past few days - so fun!

@grizz: congrats on the baby boy! can't wait to hear the whole story...

@maybebaby: I hope everything keeps going and that you have a baby in your arms soon!

@tlcbaby: I have been doing the same thing - such an odd compulsion. I realllly want to clean the upstairs bathroom but am going to wait until tomorrow. Too tired after a long day of sailing today. But the house will be fully clean tomorrow, since I'm feeling so cleaning-oriented. One of my co-workers joked on Friday that once I start cleaning everything in sight, I'll know I'm close.

My update from Friday's doctor appt is that I'm 1 cm dilated and baby is fully dropped, head down and in position. Doctor doesn't think I'll make it all the way to my due date and has suggested I actually stop working this coming Friday. I'm not sure about that...I may just work from home for the final week I was planning to work. Or, I suppose I might have a baby by then and it won't be an issue, haha (omg). Have been feeling crampy and generally off for the past two days, but who knows what part of that is mental and what is actually physical stuff really happening....

Ladies, we're all having babies this month! Unreal!

@tinypiglet: I hope sailing was fun! I would suggest the working from home if you can work that out. I did get a lot done around here this week, but I've been a little bored not working. But I really didn't want to go into labor at work, either because I really needed to be able to wrap things up before I left.

That being said...you may have a baby before then and won't need to worry about it anyway!

Whelp, baby girl Revel has arrived. My water broke early Friday morning but I never went into labor after 24 hours. One pitocin induction with no epidural later, and we have a healthy little one who arrived on her due date! More details to follow!

Edited - I just realized you had your baby on your due date!

@Revel: Congratulations!! I would love to hear your story...mine is starting to look similar.

I went to L&D and they confirmed that I am leaking waters (and likely have been for 24 hours based on my assessment). They gave us the option of starting induction tonight or going home, getting one last sleep at home, and coming in tomorrow morning to start the process. We are at home now about to get some sleep, but I am panicking googling Cytotec, which was what they mentioned they would likely start me on...there are some really scary stories out there. I am hoping I can relax enough to get some good sleep and then we can talk about the options before things start tomorrow. After being overdue for over a week all of the sudden I feel so unprepared and like I don't know enough about my options for induction. Just wanted to update you ladies...will check in tomorrow when we know more!

@Revel: congrats!!!!! Can't wait to hear how it went and so happy for you and baby girl and your new family!!!
@maybebaby: good luck!! Try to rest and not worry too much. Soon you'll have baby in your arms too!! How exciting!!!!!!!
@tinypiglet: yay, baby is in position and will soon be here!!!! Rest, rest, rest!!!!
@tlcbaby: how are you feeling? Your due anytime....and you sound like me, cleaning and organizing and hardly slowing down. : )

@tinypiglet: That's awesome that things are happening! Makes it all seem so real. (I have a sneaking suspicion that I might just have a trucker belly, heh.)

@Revel: Congratulations!!! I was hoping that was the reason for the incognito!

@tlcbaby: Hope you are doing well and that baby decides on sooner than later!

@maybebaby: Good luck, chica! If they use cytotec, I think the doses are small enough to not cause as strong of uterine contractions that cause trouble (if they use it at all). There is also the option of the foley balloon. Your baby is in such good position, that the odds are stacked heavily in your favor for a successful and uneventful induction!

@jh524: @espion: I feel better than I have in a few weeks, which is weird. I made a few plans for next week, but it is so strange to always just say that I'll be there as long as I don't have the baby.

@maybebaby: Good luck w your induction! I was pretty upset about mine but it went well. I was already 3 cm so started straight on pit, no cytorec. Had planned a natural birth but was thinking epi once I knew about the pit. Turned out my platelets were low and epi was not an option! I won't lie it was incredibly difficult and took me a long time to get to 5 cm, but from there I went really fast. I'll fill in more later.

Thanks for all the well wishes! We are doing well. Baby is perfect; I feel great except for some pretty extensive tearing, but I'm hanging in there.

Thanks for the well wishes on our quick trip to L&D. BP is much better as of Saturday morning and no issues with my lab tests, so hopefully it was just an isolated incident and this little girl will cook for a few more weeks. We are at full term today!!

Another update from the tinypiglet household: first false alarm visit to the hospital today. I thought my water started leaking last night - when I went to the bathroom at around 3 am, after I was done, clear fluid just kept coming out. Plus, contractions had started coming off and on, which I haven't had at all before. I finally got out of bed around 4:30 am, cleaned our bathroom, and took a shower. Once hubby got up, we watched a movie, contractions continued, I swept our floors and washed dishes. (The cleaning is so compulsive these days!) Then I finally called the doctor just before noon, since I wasn't sure what to do - contractions weren't close enough together or regular enough to make me care, but the potential water leaking was worrisome. The doctor agreed, so we headed to the hospital triage where they monitored me for an hour and then did a bunch of checks. Apparently my waters did not break last night (so wtf was that fluid, then?!) and I'm still only 1 cm dilated. Contractions are about 8 minutes apart but not bothering me very much. Baby is fine, my BP is fine, all is well, other than that I'm apparently dehydrated and need to drink more water (a result of spending all day on the boat yesterday, I'm sure).

So, we're back home. Bummer, plus I feel embarrassed for having gone in so early on and thinking my water broke when it didn't. Also have no idea how I'm going to go into work tomorrow after all this, and still with continued crampy contractions all the time!

  26. swedishfish

    GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts

@tinypiglet: do NOT feel embarrassed!!! I've been to L&D triage three times already. The first time I also thought I was leaking amniotic fluid and it wasn't. That's why the triage unit exists. It's always better to be checked and have everything be OK

  27. tinypiglet

    cherry / 184 posts

@swedishfish: Thanks. (My nurse also told me she was turned away from L&D triage 4 times for her second child, so you are both making me feel a little better.) I guess I just feel sheepish for not knowing what's going on. But expecting to know something about all this birth stuff, having never been through it before, is kind of silly, I guess. When was your last visit? Are you doing okay? Still expecting to go early?

  28. tlcbaby

    nectarine / 2750 posts

@tinypiglet: Definitely don't feel embarrassed - having a baby is a "better safe than sorry" experience in my opinion. We haven't been through this before and don't know exactly what it is going to be like. I would just see how tonight goes and see if you feel like going in tomorrow.

  29. knittylady

@tinypiglet: and if you are not feeling well then take the day off of work tomorrow! I'm considering it, ha. My next OBGYN appointment is Tuesday morning. I've been having contractions on and off this afternoon but nothing consistent. I hope to go early but, with my luck, I'll probably have to be induced.

I feel like I have been chugging water and am still thirsty.

    When's your next appointment?

  31. GreenThumb

    pear / 1986 posts

@tinypiglet: Oh I definitely don't think you should feel silly for going in! I think it happens all the time and much better to play it safe - especially the first time around. My older sister (who is a doctor herself) went in at one point because she thought her water broke and she really had just peed herself! I have to admit I thought it was funny at the time - how could she not know? - , but now that I'm pregnant I definitely could see it happening a lot. There is so much weird stuff going on down there, it's surprising we're all not there at least twice a week!! Glad everything is just fine!

    @swedishfish: @knittylady: Thanks ladies!

  32. swedishfish

@GreenThumb: I feel like the hospital is my second home at this point! But you're right - I have no clue what's going on. I wish our bodies came with a users guide.

Is anyone else feeling nauseated lately? I had a stomach bug last Monday but the nausea is back. I hope it's not round two of this bug.

  34. Espion

    pomegranate / 3577 posts

@swedishfish: I have weird bouts of random nausea, but I think that it is more Flipper floating around like an astronaut than anything else. It seems to go away.

@tinypiglet: I echo the other ladies. Definitely not embarrassing to go to the hospital...otherwise, why would L&D triage even exist? They are there for you! I'm glad everything is okay!

@knittylady: Isn't it funny, that a few days ago we were like, "Where are the babies?!" Now it is a veritable avalanche! How are you feeling? We're about to be up at bat!

Ugh, pregnancy insomnia is a bear. I just managed to read every wikipedia article about the Game of Thrones (we don't have cable or whatever channel it is on) from 1am to 3am. I haven't been officially working since last week, and I actually looked at the schedule to see if I could come in to even help tomorrow (no such luck). I know I'll take it back (for the next 18 years), but I'm going a little stir crazy.

  35. LazyLightning

    pear / 1664 posts

@tinypiglet: I had that clear fluid leaking for DAYS before my water broke. But it was not amniotic fluid. Here's a tip for you.

Go to Petco/Petsmart. Buy aquarium test strips (theyre called '5 in 1' or '6 in 1'. They test for several things including PH. It's about 10-15 bucks for 25 strips.

If you have a pool or hottub store you could get ph strips for that too - petco was more convenient for me since i needed cat food anyway. haha.

Your normal discharge, and urine, will test at a low level, like 4 or 5 as they have a high acidity.

Your amniotic fluid will test higher, like 7.5-8.

Just use a q-tip to get a sample from inside, then dab it on the PH square on the test strip.

I used these a ton during the few days before she was born. They were always 4 or 5... then suddenly monday night, it was definitely a color change to the 8.

The alternative is something called Vagisil Screening Tests. But they're $12 and you only get 2 for that price.

Congrats @maybebaby: !! I hope I handle my (likely) induction even half as well!

I have my appointment with the OB tomorrow morning and we'll make the decision whether to induce or not. I was up from 1am to 6:30am and then back up at 7:45am this morning. (Read some awesome suggestions/links re: breastfeeding, so at least it wasn't a waste of time, lol!)

My insomnia isn't usually that bad. It would be total irony if I went into labor today, heh. Poor DH woke up when I crawled back into bed this morning. He thought maybe I had started having contractions. So terrible to watch his face fall a little bit when I told him I just couldn't sleep. Soon, my love, soon!

@Espion: I keep having dreams I go back to work for a day while I am still waiting! I actually do enjoy all the work I am getting done around the house, but I'd much rather have my baby.

Great, I'm next, but I don't think I am going to actually be next. I don't feel like anything is happening. I went to aqua fitness this morning and bounced around like crazy to try and get this baby going.

We did have an awesome day yesterday - since I am getting so much house work done during the week we were able to go to the David Sedaris reading and then we realized my husband's alma mater was playing baseball in town in a regional tournament so we went to the game. Then I went back to the bookstore and even got my book signed. It was a perfect day and I thought it was nice we got to enjoy that before everything gets turned upside down.

I had my last growth scan this morning (due to a velamentous cord insertion) and baby girl is estimated to weigh 6 lbs 5 oz. She is looking great, growing as she should, and is head down! I had been diagnosed with placenta previa at 20 weeks but that has moved and is now away from my cervix, so I'm officially cleared for a vaginal delivery rather than a scheduled C-section.

@swedishfish: I've definitely got bouts of nausea but I've been feeling that the whole 3rd tri. Baby girl is stuffed in there tight so she gives me all sorts of gastric issues - my heartburn has been unbearable without meds.

@tlcbaby: So awesome to have days like that before everything changes! That sounds like a great weekend!
