@anonysquire: I find it's harder to breathe when I'm stretched out, and I'm almost always out of breath, even after something small, like cleaning up dog pee out of the carpet...... (grumble grumble). Just understand and accept it's going to continue, and take it easy on yourself. Once the baby is out, you can take deep breaths again (oh, and hold your pee for more than 30 min!!)

@ScarletBegonia: oh wow, I"m so jealous, that sound amazing! I can't believe your principal said to just stay home! I"m on the opposite side where my mat leave bumps right into our summer vaca in June so I"ll be off until the end of August... I thought I had it good, but you timed it perfectly!

So I have a new symptom today: stabby pains in my boobs. Owww! What the heck? Not a fan at all

  7. ScarletBegonia

    persimmon / 1339 posts

@HazelEyes: Yes I do recognise how incredibly lucky I am!! How much mat leave do you get as a teacher in the US?

Also - sooooo strange that you commented about stabby boob pain - I am having the EXACT same thing!! I was eating crackers last night and wearing a scoop necked shirt, and I got some crumbs in my boobs (i'm SUPER classy, in case anyone was wondering). When i was going to bed I had these sharp stabby pains on the outsides of my boobs and I figured I just had crumbs still in there, but then I realised no, no crumbs, just a weird new pregnancy symptom!

Well, besides finding out that LO is a healthy little boy, I now will have to start weekly progesterone shots. I don't have another actual prenatal until the 13th next month, but starting next Friday I'm having to go see the nurse for injections, since DS was 8 weeks early. They are also going to start keeping an eye on me, and when baby gets to big, I'm having a c-section (they mentioned baby getting too big, I asked for the section).

So, the third trimester is going to be a balancing act, but I have no fear about bringing this little guy home with me at the end of it all!

@Dandelion: Congrats on your little boy I"m glad to hear you feel happy and comfortable with your plans!

@ScarletBegonia: we get 12 weeks unpaid, but can use our sick leave. So that's what I'm doing. Using allll of my sick days. I still accrue while I'm gone since I'm "working" so I should have a few back for when Baby inevitably gets sick. Not sure what I'll do if/when we have Baby2 though. Won't have 8 years Od sick banked, that's for sure! Already getting the shaft!

And yeah, not a fan at all. Hoping its a passing symptom though, haven't really felt them since Friday.

@HazelEyes: Man, mat leave in the states is no joke I moved to Australia from Canada and often lament the fact that I am missing out on Canada's exceptional maternity leave (I think most people get a year @ full pay? Or something like that?), but realistically Australia isn't bad at all. My school gives 14 weeks at full pay or 28 weeks at half pay (I'm going 28 weeks). Can't really complain about that.

My stabby pains have gone as well! I spoke to a friend about it (who has a 5 month old) and she said she had the same thing on and off from 22 weeks...she assumed it was the milk ducts getting fired up!

I have a doctors appointment tomorrow y'all and I am just dying! I have been having awful back pain in my low back and occasional sciatic pain. Everytime I cough I literally feel like I'm about to pop this baby out from the pain in my vajay! I'm like what the heck...I totally didn't have this during my first pregnancy! Curious to see what my doctor says because 14 more weeks of this is going to kill.

@matador84: Eeeks good luck! Can you update me when you get back? I'm having this same thing and I don't see my doctor for a few more weeks

@matador84: ick...I hope they can give you some relief!

I'm already feeling Braxton hicks. Not too happy about that.

@Bao: Sure thing! I don't have a tendency to worry much and I have a high pain tolerance--had a natural birth, but WOW, I am in some pain.

It's weird, I was supposed to see my doctor last week but had to cancel due to some meetings I couldn't reschedule. The pain wasn't this bad last week, so I am glad I had to move it...I think I would worry a lot more if I had to wait a few more weeks before seeing him! I'll keep ya posted.

@Dandelion: Ditto! Although, I have a feeling, knowing my OB he'll just say it's something like round ligament pains. I couldn't imagine them being this bad!

DH and I took a trip to the hospital last night. Yesterday I had started some blood mixed discharge. Although little man was moving around just fine, but I was extremely concerned about the bleeding. I got checked out and the best they can come up with is that something stressed my cervix. They told me to take it easy for the next couple of days. They also told me that I was on pelvic rest until I see my doctor next week. So today DH, N, and I are hanging out on the couch and watching big bang.

Other wise things have been going a lot better. I think I may have gained another pound or it could just be my lunch. I am hoping to get my heart monitor off before I leave with N and my parents to Las Vegas. I would hate to have it as I get through TSA. I have a feeling it may be hard enough traveling with a toddler.

Anyone looking forward to Thanksgiving? We always have at least two Thanksgivings, one at my grandma's and one at my parents house. What is your favorite dish at Thanksgiving? My favorite is my mums stuffing!! I can't wait to have some this year. We are even making some that is gluten free.

Hope all you ladies are doing ok!

@matador84: I was having terrible back pain for about a week. Really really low in my back and I thought it was Sciatica as well. I bought one of those maternity support belts, wore it for a few days and - poof! - I'm back to no pain! I'm pretty sure the pain will return, but I am a believer in the belt. It might help you too!

  20. matador84

    papaya / 10560 posts

@math.nerd: he totally thinks I should get a maternity belt! Ugh. Where'd you get yours from? I can't handle it for 14 more weeks!

  21. math.nerd

    apricot / 253 posts

@matador84: I got one from Pea in the Pod - there was a store near my house. I wish I could remember the name of it. It was about $40. They run pretty expensive!! The one I got was sort of middle range - they had some for around $20 and some for closer to $70.

You might be able to find one at Target or another store like that, but I found that the maternity stores had better options for slightly higher quality. Good luck!!!! It was a life-saver for me.

Not much going on over here, getting big and uncomfortable much sooner than I remember last time. Trying to start making plans for March to get grandparents in our area so we are prepared for labor since I went really fast last time.

My MIL just spent the last week hanging out with us and playing with C. They had such a good time together, it makes me feel so good that they will have fun together when the new guy makes his appearance.

@MrsRcCar: how scary! So glad the little guy is doing ok!

  24. MrsRcCar

    grapefruit / 4712 posts

@lemondrop: It was pretty scary. Thankful we live with my parents so we were able to wisk away pretty quick. My mom put N to sleep for us. The hospital was wonderful as well. We got taken straight to L&D and monitored in minutes. I felt so much better hearing his heartbeat.

@MrsRcCar: ahh that's my worst fear, so happy the little guy is perfect in there I know how hard it is to do with a LO but try to take it easy!

@MrsRcCar: scary! but I'm glad everything is ok!

@lemondrop: there are some days I feel like my belly is so heavy that I won't be able to carry it much longer and I'm not really even that big, but on those days I feel huge! Walking around makes my bladder hurt a lot too from all the pressure.

Little dude has been moving a ton in the past week! I'm almost worried it's not normal how much he moves, haha! He mostly moves during the day and sometimes he will kick a bit when I get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, but I haven't been kept awake by him yet! He's also taken to kicking my bladder, which isn't the most pleasant feeling And DH FINALLY got to feel him kick on Sunday night (my last day at 22 weeks). I had been feeling him move all week/weekend, but every time DH put his hand on to feel him, he would stop moving. I know DH is so happy to have finally felt him move!

@matador84: @Bao: I'm sorry you guys are having back pain. I had it really bad this weekend... like, I couldn't get off the couch and no position would ease the pain. I had a theory that it's because my back is not being supported by a strong core like I had last time, so I worked out Monday, and today the pain is gone! I meant to work out today, but I'm fighting a nasty cold and DD woke up every hour last night. I don't know if that will help you guys, but hopefully you get some relief soon!

@MrsRcCar: Yikes! Glad everything is ok.

@BabyBoecksMom: oh good idea! Now to find the motivation love your new avatar btw!

  29. BabyBoecksMom

    GOLD / papaya / 10166 posts

@Bao: thanks! and yes, the motivation was/is the hardest part. I just did a circuit that focused on the core and legs, but not abs, if that makes sense. So, the exercises used balance to incorporate the core muscles. Squats w/ shoulder press, one-leg deadlifts, side lunges, (girly) push-ups, tricep dips. (I had to take a lot of rests between each set and circuit - haha!

I don't think I've been taking the best care of myself this week and am feeling SO SO terribly guilty about it. I'm in London for work and for some reason I just can't accept or realize that I have limitations now except for once I've reached or passed them! This week has been a lot of walking, going too long between meals, not getting sleeping enough, and not always eating healthy enough - ugh, I just hate feeling like I'm not doing my best for baby girl sometimes! Please tell me I'm not alone!

@debbiei8: My belly has been feeling heavy-ish, too! At just 22 weeks this has me worried b/c I'm not even that big yet!

  31. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

So, my midwife told me that if I didn't hear from the office by this evening that everything is ok with my sugar. But, I still have to take it again at 28 weeks (just the one hour test).

So, I haven't heard anything. I'll ask at my progesterone appointment on Friday to double check, but so far so good, I suppose.

  32. BabyBoecksMom

    GOLD / papaya / 10166 posts

@fussygal: There will be weeks where you aren't perfect, but try not to worry The baby will always take what it needs from what you eat.

@Dandelion: That's great news - I'll keep my fingers crossed!

    @mauxie: Welcome!

I've had super weird nausea all day and hiccups....almost like a weird case of indigestion. ugh!

my sweet maternity belt should be here in the next couple days. can't wait to see how that works out.

  35. ScarletBegonia

    persimmon / 1339 posts

@fussygal: I don't think you should worry!! Think about all the women in history out toiling on the fields, taking care of a dozen kids, living nomadic lifestyles, and still having perfectly healthy babies! As long as your body isn't shutting down on you I'd say you're fine. Jealous of you being in London!!

    @mauxie: welcome and congrats!

Second time moms: can anyone give a good explanation of braxton hicks contractions? I'm feeling a strong tightening in my lower belly (like below my belly button but above my pubic bone) that is kind of uncomfortable, but doesn't really hurt. Originally I thought it was baby moving or stretching down there, but I'm now kinda wondering if maybe it is braxton hicks contractions. Sometimes I have some slight cramping (light light menstrual cramps or digestive cramps) before I feel the tightening, but I don't remember it being every time. Just curious if it is braxton hicks or just baby.

  37. Bao

    GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts

@debbiei8: Sometimes, for me, BH and the baby stretching or flipping feels the same. A lot of pressure but it doesn't really hurt. I think with BH it's more all over your belly and with baby moving it's located more in one area? I could be wrong...but it sounds like BH to me!

@mauxie: Welcome! I'm right there with ya- 3/17ish with a boy!

I'm amazed at how quickly this kiddo is growing, I didn't even realize that he's tracking at a pound and a half already! He's been having dance parties lately, some of them are kind of painful too, definitely making me squirm and change position. Both my husband and my MIL who was visiting last week got some pretty hardy kicks from him despite him "hiding" when I get a hand on my belly

  40. bookwormmama

    persimmon / 1198 posts

@Bao: thanks for explaining...I asked my mom as well (she's a RN in L&D) and she thought it sounded like baby's movement. She also thought I was too early for BH. Most of the time it happens when I'm sitting down, so maybe he's getting squished or doesn't like my positioning haha. I am going to bring it up to my doctor on Tuesday just in case.
