@fussygal: I haven't been as diligent about it as I should have been but I did cut back a lot already so hopefully the next 10 weeks won't be hard to cut back more.

@Dandelion: I am glad you got a solid answer.

Monday I got back from my trip to Maryland to see my friend. I tell you what 9 hours is a long time in the car. My mum, myself, and N had a wonderful time tho. We stopped about every two hours to stretch and let N run around. It was wonderful to see my friend; I haven't seen her in almost 10 years. We went shopping for lots of baby stuff. (She is due in March with her first baby). It was nice to shop for some new nursing stuff. I didn't really invest in nursing things the first time around because I just wasn't sure.

Lately I have had a lot of back pain and BH contractions. I am not holding my breath that I will get to my due date. Right this minute I am hoping to get March 1st. I don't remember having this much back pain or BH contractions last time. I see the doctor on Wednesday, so I will be bringing it up with her.

Anyone have some suggestions to help with back pain?

So no call from the doctors office so I'm assuming I passed my 3 hour test (they only call if they have bad news to give). Phew! Although the past week has made me more cognizant of what I'm eating and hopefully making better choices.

Also, Gap is having a big sale and I'm so tempted to go nuts. We have a fair amount of clothes, but there are definitely some things we need to get. I'm sure I'll get a lot at my shower but that's not until late Feb and I'm impatient

@MrsRcCar: When's your due date again? March first seems so close! Keep us updated with what the doctor says. Hopefully the back pain at least gets a little better!

@MrsRcCar: my back is killing me too.. nothing has helped but my BFF who is a chiro just posted this article. I think I'll make an appt next week (not with her though because she lives three hours away )

@MrsRcCar: @Mrs. Champagne: oh my gosh you guys my back hurts SO bad this time around I've already had a bad back but I couldn't even move last night. Today I have to take Tylenol as I can and keep a heating pad on it and it still doesn't help. Where on your back is it hurting the most? This sucks

I am dilated 1cm! I know this is chump change and I can stay this way till like week 100 but still.

@fussygal: I am due the 14th. I had N 15 days early last time. I would love to make it closer this time but we aren't sure that's going to happen.

@Mrs. Champagne: I do have a standing every two week appointment with my chiro but it is only seeming to help very little lately. perhaps I should go every couple of days.

@Bao: My back hurts mostly lower back on spine, with hip and leg pain just in case I wasn't miserable enough. Last time I only had a few issues with my back hurting until I went into labor. So this has been pretty hard for me not to freak out over.

@anonysquire: Wow! When is your due date again?

  11. Mrs. Champagne

    coconut / 8483 posts

@Bao: mine is lower and upper.. like upper betwee my shoulder blades! it's really weird. DH got me a hot water bottle yesterday on his way home from work and that seemed to help a bit while I used it. Driving just hurts so bad, and yesterday I drove a couple hours to and from a meeting, and I have to do that three times next week plus drive another 40 minutes or so to my MW appt on one of the days. I might cry! lol

Ugh...restless leg kicked my butt last night. I was sooo tired and so looking forward to my bed and my leg wouldn't relax! I ended up with about 3 hours of sleep. I think there will be a nap going on later today!

    grapefruit / 4712 posts

@Dandelion: I got up every 3 hours last night and the last couple nights to be honest! I just want to sleep or smother DH for sleeping. lol Hope it improves some for you.

I pretty much slept all weekend and went to sleep early last night but I am still getting up every 3 hours. I see the doctor on Wednesday and then back out of town for the weekend. My mum, N and I are headed to a snowfest this weekend. As long as the doctor clears me to travel. I have been cramping off and on. Also I am having more BH Contractions more often. We will have to see what she says Wednesday.

I had an ultrasound today to check placenta location. Everything looked great! Baby is head down and made sure to show us he is still a boy. He actually has one leg/face up by his face which gave my doctor and the techs some good laughs. He is kind on his side with his arms/legs poking out toward my right side rather than my back. I'm sure he will twist the right way when the time comes though. He is already pretty big though...about 4.5 pounds by ultrasound measurements. My doctor thinks that's a little off and he is probably more like 4 pounds. I hope so because I am trying to avoid a c-section and she doesn't think I'll be having a 9.5+ pound baby vaginally. Maybe he will just decide to come when he reaches 8 pounds!

It was pretty cool to get a profile picture...he looks almost identical to his 20 week ultrasound picture!

@debbiei8: Glad you got a look at your little guy again! I feel you on the big baby front. DS was 8 pounds 3 ounces. I am hoping this little one will be smaller!

What's everyone wearing to their showers? Did anyone buy a special outfit? I'm looking at a few maxi dresses (to cover my ghostly legs!) but I'm not thrilled at the thought of buying something that I'll only wear for another 8-9 weeks. Although maybe a stretchy maxi could be worn postpartum, too...

@fussygal: I had a cute blue dress but then I felt too big in it. I wore jeans a black tank and a cute open sweater over it. I wish I dressed up.. maybe for my next one!

@fussygal: I worn jeans and a cute top last time. I was focused on comfort but still looking cute. I have no regrets tho, I looked great in my pictures and I am not a dress person.

I forgot to update. Saturday I lost 2 parts of my mucus plug. Sunday night I started having bleeding. Not gushing or anything but not spotting. Like period like but lighter? IF that makes sense. So I called my midwife and she said to take it easy and come in Monday but if it gets worse to go to the ER. So Monday I went to the midwife and got all checked up and stuff. Baby is doing great! HR is still 140 and they said super strong heart so that is good. Also baby moved to LOA position. Oh and I am freaking 3cm dilated! Again I know this could last like this for 10 more weeks. But things are happening up in der. And I have been having contractions I guess? They said that I am but I don't know. Yes I have been having BH all day lately and period cramping but I really kind of doubt they are contractions. Anyways so midwife gave me a prescription for magnesium and some unicorn root (WTH?) tincture to drink with juice 3 times a day and also a note for work to take it easier so hopefully the contractions will stop.

But then the midwife wanted to get me an ultrasound since there was bleeding and she wanted to rule out placenta abruption. But of course me being me, I did not bring my wallet. Like I drove 20 miles without my license? So I said I can't have one today because I did not bring money. You have to pay $160 upfront for any ultrasounds there. But the ultrasound tech was so nice and said we could do a free one and only if he found something wrong would he have to charge me. He has a great memory because he instantly remembered that we are team green so he didn't let me see the gender. It might be because I was wearing the same pants as my 20 week appointment But he did the ultrasound and said baby looked great and placenta looked great and the baby has a ton of hair! It showed up white on the screen. Now I am excited to see if that is true. I have had enough heartburn starting like day of conception, to last me a lifetime so hopefully it is true! Anyways so nothing was wrong with that so he didn't charge me! And now I am freaking out that nothing is ready here for a baby but my depression cycle is at the point where I have absolutely no motivation to do anything even though the world may be falling apart around me. So that was my weekend

    @Mrsjets: Good luck!!!

    @Dandelion: Oh that sounds awful!

@debbiei8: Do you go in for anymore ultrasounds between now and your due date to check the weight again? Good luck!!

@fussygal: I bought a Jessica Simpson dress from some maternity store at the mall. It really isn't my style but hey, at this point I am not all about style!

@anonysquire: yikes that all sound scary! It sounds like you are probably having contractions. Everyone I have talked to describes contractions as period cramps. Hopefully the meds your doctor gave you will help keep your LO baking a bit longer! My doctor said they would only try to stop labor if I came in in the next 13 days, but if I come in in 14 days they won't stop it. Crazy!

I'm not sure about another ultrasound...my doctor is hopeful my body will go into labor when he reaches 7.5-8 pounds, especially since I was 7 7 when I was born. My fundal height has measured almost spot on every week (maybe a week ahead sometimes) so I think right now my doctor isn't very concerned about him getting too big. If my fundal height starts getting out of control I think she might try to look at his size again, but she said ultrasounds are famous for over estimating baby's size, especially in the stomach region, which is what pushed him from 4 lbs to 4 10.

@fussygal: I have a sweater I was going to wear for our maternity pictures that I will wear. I didn't end up wearing it for pictures because I needed a warmer sweater. I'm more comfortable in jeans anyways, and it is freezing in Wisconsin right now (my shower will be there this weekend). I'm always for comfort. I actually really love the sweater I got though!

@MrsRcCar: I'm kinda freaked out about his size now. My doctor told me not to worry too much because the ultrasound probably over estimated his size, but I really don't want to have a scheduled c-section and it kinda sounds like my doctor will head there if he gets too big.

Did you have your DS early or late?

  31. MrsRcCar

    grapefruit / 4712 posts

@debbiei8: DS was 15 days early. I am really hopin this next little boy will be smaller. I am sure that your doctor will keep on his size tho. Try not to worry. I am on track to hopefully have a smaller baby this time. My fundal heights have measured a little small so only time will tell.

  32. MrsRcCar

    grapefruit / 4712 posts

I had my appointment this morning. I haven't gained any weight in two weeks and my fundal height is measuring small too. They are sending me for a growth ultrasound in two weeks. I am worried that little E isn't doing well. I am going to talk with my Dh (who is presently at work) and try to get in sooner. My mum was with me at the appointment and she isn't making me feel any better.

@anonysquire: I just remembered something. Didn't you say you had a cervical check recently? Did you start bleeding after that? I remember I bled kind of heavily after my first cervical check.. enough to make me go to L&D and get checked out.

@debbiei8: I'm not sure if this will make you feel better, but my doctor said he never relies on the ultrasound for size because there's a 25% error rate. So, if it looks like it's a 7 lb baby on the ultrasound, it could actually be anywhere from 5.25-8.75 lbs., which is way too wide of a range to be accurate.

@MrsRcCar: Oh, that would make me nervous, but I'm sure the ultrasound will show that everything is ok.

  34. tipperella

    cherry / 187 posts

@debbiei8 I know it's hard not to worry, but the ultrasounds are definitely not exact predictors. With my DD, I was completely freaked out as both the ultrasound and my Dr were predicting a 9lb or more baby and the Dr saying I may not be able to deliver vaginally. I DID deliver vaginally (with no epi) and she was 7lbs 11oz. My ultrasound last week said 4.5lbs too (31 wks), but I'm ignoring it this time.

@BabyBoecksMom: My dad who is an NP said that he is likely just fine but I can't help but worry. I have been measuring small the whole time but this is the first time I am measuring almost 3 weeks behind. Little man is moving around a lot so I am just hoping it was his position this morning. His heart rate was lower then normal too but the doctor thinks he was just sleeping or resting. Normally when she is looking for his heart rate he moves around like crazy this morning not so much. She didn't seem worried but I can't help but worry. I am a natural worrier.

DH called while I was out to lunch with my mum and I told him what the doctor said he was trying to sound positive but you could tell he was worried too. He said perhaps this baby will just be smaller then N was. That would be good right? He has to work the day of my ultrasound unless he can switch now. Which he may do. I hate this worried/failing feeling.

I went to my diabetes center today. The appointment wasn't too bad. More Do's than Don'ts. Just a lot about learning to balance carbs with proteins and learning which carb choices are better.
I go back in a week, to see if I have been managing my sugar levels ok with just diet, or if I'll need some medicine to help counter act it.

  37. lemondrop

@debbiei8: don't put a whole ton of stock in the ultrasound measurements as law- every tech gets slightly different measurements. They take measurements of the head diameter, abdomen diameter, and the femur length and plug them into a formula and compare to other baby "averages."

I have babies with very large heads and very long femurs- they have predicted 9-10 pound babies for me both times. I was absolutely FREAKED OUT last time because of that, but everything turned out fine and he was 6lb 11oz at 39 weeks.

Remember that many ultrasounds can have almost a 2 pound margin of error in each direction. Ultimately, trust in your body, it can and will do amazing things!

  38. lemondrop

    bananas / 9118 posts

@MrsRcCar: how scary! Hopefully all is ok with E and he's just hanging out super low or hanging back making it hard for them to measure! My little guy has definitely been less active the past few days. I hate the anxiety involved with it, I'm so ready to get him on the outside where I can keep an eye on him a little better

  39. bookwormmama

    persimmon / 1198 posts

@MrsRcCar: @BabyBoecksMom: @tipperella: @lemondrop: Thanks ladies, it does help to hear your experiences. My doctor definitely thinks they overestimate on ultrasounds and said that the most common place they do it is in the stomach area. Then she looked at our measurements and said she definitely thinks they overestimated in the stomach area because that is what pushed him from close to 4 pounds to 4 pounds 11 ounces. But I only have 8 weeks (well now almost 7) until my due date, so even if he gains the .5 pounds every week at 4 10 he will be close to 8.5-9 pounds. I definitely think his head measurements pushed him up too. I think he measured a week ahead there and in the 70+% percentile. His femur measurement was a couple days behind his gestational age. Poor guy is going to be just like mom and dad, bigger head and short legs!

@MrsRcCar: I hope everything turns out ok. I'm sorry you have to worry so much though. You are definitely not failing! You are due at the beginning of March right? Maybe he's just getting ready to come and has moved down lower or something!

@Dandelion: That sounds like a great resource to have! I think that was my biggest fear with GD, not knowing what to do. I've never heard of a diabetes center.
