@jazzy: it's so totally normal to be freaked out! I remember for like months 1-8 I was oblivious to the end game of pregnancy and then we did our birth classes and it was like "oh shit - I forgot that's how this whole thing ends"... For me, what got me through it was trusting my dr, trusting my body and then reminding myself that women do this every sinke day with much less then us and in much worse conditions! If they can do it so can I (you). Just my own two cents! plus you have so much adrenaline in you when the time comes...I promise it's "easier" than it appears on the outside for a first time mama!

Would be cool to add genders of baby on roll call list like the feb moms.. N they're keeping tally of genders n surprises just an idea
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@sassymama34: I did think about that yesterday when I updated the list, but didn't know what you mommies felt about that so I left it off.
If anyone wants to re-post what they're having (if you already know or just say Team Green if you are), I'll update the list to include genders.

@jazzy: Birth is one of the things that freaked me out the most about being pregnant. So many unknowns!! Plus, the recovery, how am I going to handle it and care for myself and a newborn??? I'm talking, mini panic attacks sometimes if I thought about it too long. Yikes!
I ended up having a really smooth labor and delivery with DS and recovery wasn't too bad. Thank goodness. He kind of ruined me for future deliveries. So once again, I'm totally freaking out with #2 because even though I've gone through it once, every time is different! I just have to keep faith in my OB and my body that it'll do whatever it needs to do to make it happen. It's totally out of your control.
I also learned that by keeping an open mind (ie not a strict birth plan) helps also. Less stress/expectations so you can just focus on yourself and not on other stuff.

I also need ideas for a family Halloween costumes! We were the characters from Wizard of Oz in 2013 then the Rubbles from the Flintstones last year. Since I'll be 4.5 months preggo this year, I don't know what the family should be this year?? Suggestions???
pea / 13 posts
@Alivoo01: agree. Just anecdotally based on people I know who have kids and have told me about their births, it seems like those who had the highest hopes and expectations for things going a certain way were the most broken up about it when they had a rough go or didn't get their perfect birth.
I had a planned Csection last time so I'm in vbac territory now and everything is new and scary. But I have a great doctor (I think ..! I haven't met him yet but everybody in the "vbac community" here raves about him) and I'm hoping the trust your doctor / trust your body mantra will get me through without too much fear.

@Alivoo01: What about the adams family?
You guys!!! I am so bad...just checked my local Baby Envision and I can go tomorrow at 3:45 and find out the gender for $80...so so so tempting!!!!!
pomelo / 5573 posts
@Mrs D: Do it! I would totally do it.
@Alivoo01: I have a friend who was pregnant for last Halloween and they did Monsters Inc - she made her belly into Mike, it was pretty adorable.
Next time you update the list, can you change my due date to the 16th? I'm not sure why I said the 15th originally, I think because one of the apps said that, but my midwife says the 16th (plus I much prefer even numbers to odd, so I like the 16th better). I'm Team Green for now.
@araneidae: I'm also in VBAC territory so I don't really know what to expect. Every so often I think I should just forget it and have another C section so I know going in what will happen, but then I remember that I wouldn't be able to pick up my son for 6 weeks and that won't work. Plus ever since my first C section I've wished that I got an opportunity to experience labour. I guess we just have to go into this with a "Whatever happens happens" attitude. As long as there's a healthy baby at the end of it....

@Mrs D: do it!! you guys all finding out genders I am so jealous!
@Alivoo01: I agree, I had such high hopes of doing everything completely naturally last time, and such a vision of my ideal birth. I think by the time I was giving birth I still hadnt really got over the disappointment of having an induction, and that really got in the way of appreciating it for what it was. Trying to be more open minded this time!
For the list... my due date is now 28/2 and next apt (midwife) is 4/12. Still waiting on a date for my anatomy scan but we will most definitely be finding out, no team green here! Thanks so much for keeping it updated!

@erinbaderin: yep. I had a great Csection experience so I totally get that feeling of why not just stick with what I know ... but statistically the risks (for me and for anytime who is a good vbac candidate) are higher with a repeat section compared to a vbac. Different risks completely but they weigh in favour of vbac being safer. I just hope my new and WRONG due date (March 13) isn't going to screw me bc the one thing I know with vbac is they won't induce. Ah well. Hopefully my doc will be helpful and not push me to schedule a section at 41 weeks or whatever.
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@Alivoo01: Completely agree on the "high expectations resulting if high frustration". If you are capable I think the best way to go into it is "whatever happens happens as long as the baby and I are healthy"...
@erinbaderin: @Bubbles: enablers... I booked it...we'll see if DH lets me keep it...

Thanks for the feedback @Mrs D and @Alivoo01 ! I really appreciate it I found a thread yesterday based on labor anxiety - lots of advice for first time mommys and it was very helpful. I'm feeling much better today!
I find out the gender next Wednesday so I will keep you posted!!!

Anyone have thoughts or advice for rhinitis and/or insomnia? In my new habit of getting up to go to the bathroom every night, I often end up in a sneezing fit that keeps me up for 2-3 hours. And I really could use that sleep. Grr
I'm taking Zyrtec most days, but I'm mostly worried about when fall allergies hit full force. Any suggestions?

So I've finally started telling people that I'm pregnant and everyone's been so happy, etc. But listen to this! This one friend of mine texted me "congrats" and we started talking about the pregnancy, etc. THEN she started telling me about a friend that lost two babies, and one was really far along, describing everything (I will spare details so you don't have to deal with reading it like I did), etc.
Like, WHO DOES THAT to a pregnant lady?? As if I'm not already anxious!! I replied "yeeeeaaa I try to stay away from these types of stories because they make me sad and scared".
GRRR.

@jazzy: that's so funny, I got that email about birth videos too, and told myself 'OH I have to watch that' but haven't yet. oh my. this is my first also, but have soooo many friends and family that have been through it.
super surprised with all the insomnia and stuff being taken for it. I just started noticing it myself and read that it's another symptom, but I figured some nights I'm just up late, and some I won't be. still resting at least when I'm lying down
also, update on my appt last friday. got an ultrasound pic of our little carebare looking lime and its right on target!!! such a relief. with a heartbeat of 165!! really hoping that means girls. we should have blood results back next week to confirm sex and diagnostics though. fingers crossed all ok. 13th week started today! feeling so much better...other than constipation blues
next appt is Oct 12th

I'm due on March 29, just had our NT scan and NIPT test, all looks good so far and it's a girl! Anatomy scan scheduled for 11/9.

@MoreCoffee: welcome!!! that is great news that your recent scans went well! My anatomy scan is 10/28 - it feels so far away! And I'm also slightly anxious (not sure if that's the right word for how I feel) that I won't have any appointments until that scan!

@mrslilybugg: WTF. Why are people so unable to think beyond their initial thoughts? That's outrageous, and I hope you can stay away from that person for a while. How did she respond when you said that?
@sassymama34: thanks for the benadryl rec, your doc said it's ok to take regularly or just occasionally?

Hey all - sorry it took forever for me to update but a lot of emotions to process...we had an elective ultrasound (early gender screen) Saturday and thankfully Baby D looks great.
We found out we are having another girl. DH is pretty "heartbroken" (his words) and says he feels like someone died. He also feels awful for how he feels. We know this will be our last baby and he is just devastated at the loss of the son he will never had.
I am so sad for him but know there is nothing we could do to control this. I know it will pass - and he knows logically he will fall madly in love with this little girl. Also - we know we are lucky to have a so far healthy little girl...just going through the grieving process of gender disappointment.
I was indifferent either way - except of course the strong desire for DH to get the son he so badly wants. So I am really happy that K will get a best friend in her new sister, we have soooo many girl clothes I will get to reuse and just generally how much easier it will be having girl #2.
Sorry for the downer post! On the plus side...I am finally sleeping great! The nausea has passed but I still have some food aversions...But feeling better in general.

@keepsinging: I take Claritin, but it doesn't seem to help much. Ugh! As for the insomnia, I'm just dealing with it and try to take a quick cat nap in the afternoon if I'm dying.
@Bubbles: Glad you have a date for your scan!!
@MrsLilybugg: WTF is wrong with your friend?!
@sbbs3: Yay for a good appt and keeping my fingers crossed for you that you get your lil girl!
@MoreCoffee: Welcome and congratulations on your lil girl!
@Mrs D: Glad the scan went well and that you're feeling better!! Gender disappointment is totally okay!! Like yourself and others have mentioned, give him some time to grieve and before you know it, he'll be just as in love with #2 as he is with K.

AFM, the nausea seems to have gone away unless I'm hungry and I still have to toss my cookies if I smell gross stuff for an extended amount of time (like changing DS's poopy diapers). My palate seems to be returning , which DH is grateful for. While I never really had food aversions, food was just meh to me during the 1st trimester.
While I'm glad for the diminishing bad symptoms, I almost feel like I'm not pregnant! Which is frightening. Have to keep reminding myself all is well and that I'm still pregnant. Definitely looking forward to my appt this Thursday!
I plan on telling my boss today that I'm pregnant, then start revealing to some other friends after my appointment on Thursday, then probably announce publicly soon thereafter.
We plan on doing a simple gender reveal with my family this weekend.

@MoreCoffee: Welcome, and congratulations!
@sbbs3: I too have just started with the insomnia - the last few nights I go to bed at 9:30 as usual and find myself at 11 still staring at the ceiling. It's so frustrating! I've always been a good sleeper so having problems is making me nuts.
@MrsLilybugg: What is UP with people? When my best friend was pregnant her husband made her stop watching Private Practice because he couldn't hand the sad baby stories. But weirdly the same friend, when a mutual friend was pregnant, spent like 15 minutes telling her horror stories about her epidural while I yelled "Stop! Why are you telling her this? SHUT UP!" There are some people who just can't help themselves.
@Mrs D: Aw, your poor husband. I think that's one good thing about finding out early, though - now he has time to come to terms with being disappointed.
@Alivoo01: Good luck with your boss! Do you think it will go ok?
A lot of girls on this thread, I kind of hope the trend holds for me, although I still suspect no. I have my next midwife appointment tomorrow and I'm going to ask her if she can look at the ultrasound photos and see if she sees anything, but I've resigned myself to waiting another 5 weeks to know. And my friend came over this weekend and brought me a giant bag of maternity clothes. A lot of them are useless because her pregnancies were seasonally opposite to mine and she's 4 inches shorter, but there were a good number of shirts that I can use, so that's exciting. Now I just need to get some pants!
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@MrsLilybugg: People suck sometimes...honestly what is going through her mind when she says that? How is it helpful?
@MoreCoffee: Congrats!!! and Welcome!
@erinbaderin: hand-me-down clothes are the best!!! I have been loving my LOFT maternity pants - soooooo comfy!!!
@sassymama34: @Alivoo01: @erinbaderin: Thanks ladies. I know he will come around and be an amazing father to this one like he is to K just makes me so sad for him...watching someone lose their dream and there is nothing you can do about it!
On the plus side...since I have SO many of the "basics" for a little girl I can totally make some splurges for this one...I may be that annoying mom who dresses her girls in matching Lolly-whatever the name is outfits!
persimmon / 1328 posts
@Mrs D: aww that is tough, I think my DH would have been a little disappointed had our first not been a boy. It's good you have found out early though so he has time to adjust. And great news on baby looking good!
@Alivoo01: Glad the nausea is improving, mine is much better now too unless I forget to eat often enough. Exciting about telling people, I love that bit!
@erinbaderin: Lots of girls! Hope your midwife can help you out!
I am trying not to freak out after DS basically body slammed my bump this morning. I know baby is well protected, just wish I could feel the little dude move a bit more often to reassure me!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@erinbaderin: I'm sure it'll go over fine. It's my 2nd, and I'm usually pretty good about wrapping up my stuff before I go on leave (like I take a week long vacation between Christmas and New Year's). I'm always accessible via email regardless also so that helps.
Hope your midwife can point out the gender to you, and yay for hand me downs. Sucks that a bunch of it is not seasonally appropriate, but at least you got some things out of it!
@Mrs D: You can bet I'll totally coordinate DS with DD! LOL! It's too cute not to, and they're young so they won't mind.
@Bubbles: OMG! Ouch and yikes!! DS likes to drop onto my belly occasionally as well, no matter how many times I tell him don't do that or how attentive I'm watching him. He'll just be around me all fine and dandy then he'll randomly decide to sit on my belly with a flop. Oof! It actually knocked the window out of me for a few minutes yesterday! It freaks me out like crazy too, but I keep reminding myself DD is itty bitty still and my belly is pretty cushy right now. I'm not so sure I'll be as calm the further along I am and DD is bigger...
apricot / 371 posts
@Bubbles: My DD is so NOT gentle with my stomach as well. I get nervous at times but figure everyone with a sibling probably got a few kicks? I'm hoping as the stomachs get bigger they'll realize it's something to watch out for.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@ksnow: I'm hoping for this too!! Also because when I tell DS that there's a baby in my tummy, he's like uh... sure. whatever. I'm looking forward to him understanding that concept and is all lovey dovey over my belly/his lil sister.
We went out with another couple this past weekend and they have two daughters (4 and 2). The mom told the older one to be careful around me because there's a baby in my belly. She immediately went into careful mode and was kissing and hugging my belly saying "I wanna kiss the baby (kisses my belly)" "I wanna hug the baby!! (hugs my belly)" Rinse and repeat. It was flipping adorable!!
I know DS is a boy so he might not be all lovey dovey, but one can hope/wish right?
pomelo / 5573 posts
@Alivoo01: We're working on teaching Bennett that there's a baby in my tummy, but so far he thinks the baby is in his tummy - whenever my husband talks about the new baby B pulls up his shirt and pokes himself in the belly.
@Bubbles: Poor you, that is stressful! Could you make a doctor's appointment just to reassure yourself? They ARE super well protected in there, though - I mean, your body is full of organs all the time, they all have to be well protected or we'd have our spleens rupturing every time our kids got overexcited.
@Alivoo01: When I told my boss I was pregnant she said "How many of these are you planning to have?" I said "This is only my second!" and she said "I know....but how many more are you thinking? Two? Three?" I just laughed because that's just how she is (I love her but she's tactless, plus French and it doesn't always translate well). I guess also it's a much bigger HR hassle in Canada since I'll be away for a year.

Thanks guys!
@Alivoo01: I bet he will! My DS knows there is a baby in there - when you ask him where the baby is he says 'Mumma tubba' (I am sure he doesn't really understand that one day it will come out and live in his house though!) He just clearly has no concept of being careful!
