@Smurfette: I've definitely accidentally cut the skin on Xander too while cutting his nails, but I guess not deep enough to bleed. I probably also don't cut them short enough, which is probably what's saving him from me injuring him. Although it's also makes it so he can see claw at his face... ugh.

@Adira: why is he clawing at his face?

  3. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I'm ASSUMING it's because of his ezcema. He's got some serious dry skin on his forehead and it's apparently really itchy because he keeps scratching it. I try to keep him coated in jojoba oil and/or aquaphor, but it doesn't seem to be helping. Probably doesn't help he's not getting any moisturizing at daycare.

So I need a shot after those shots. The doctor had to get wax out from the inside of her ear and that just set her off. She has an ear infection, so I imagine that is why she got so upset. Cause last week it didn't bother her as much. So she never calmed down by the time we got to the shots. She cried/screamed for 20-25 mins straight. I took her prescription to get filled for the ear infection and then just nursed in the parking lot to calm her down. It was almost time for a bottle anyway.

She weight 12.8lb, 20%, and 24 5/8, 50%. At 2 months she was 50% for weight and 90% for length. The doctor wants to see her in three weeks for a weight checkup. Hopefully she is getting her appetie back and has some gain. She was really concerned since I took her last week to make sure she had a cold, and weight 12.78 and 10 days later is 12.8, so she only gained .03 in 10 days? That can't be normal, right?

I am hoping the ear infection is the reason she isn't sleeping as good.

Also a guy a work just told me that I look awful and sound awful. Thanks dude. I hate that I can't take anything to help get rid of this cold.

@Smurfette: Oh no!!!!! What a horrible experience!!!! I'm sorry about the ear infection - that sucks! I wonder if it's also causing her to not eat well because maybe swallowing hurts? Maybe that's why she hasn't gained a ton of weight. And that definitely could be why she hasn't been sleeping well. I think I read ear infections are pretty common at this age. I hope the meds help her!!

  8. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: She didn't have an ear infection last week. So I don't think that is causing the lack of eating. I think that it was the cold and cough. She still has a little bit of both, but much better then last week. Poor thing. Then I had to change the nasty diaper yet in the parking lot of Walgreens. It was just liquid poop. So gross, but at least it didn't leak out.

@Smurfette: Poor girl. Did your ped have any suggestions about the weight gain? Like maybe try nursing her more often (not that you can do that a whole lot since you work full-time)?

Isaac is in the rolling club! This morning he rolled front to back. He did it so effortlessly it is like he has done it many times before. He had a huge smile on his face afterwards. I hope he will do it again when my mom gets home from work.

@shopaholic: That is so scary about the scissors. I can't imagine how messed up your sleep must of been from traveling.

@Smurfette: Cutting nails is so hard, especially when they don't stay still. The ear infection could be the cause of her bad sleep. Hopefully it clears up fast and she gets back to gaining weight.

@Adira: I never know how short to cut his nails either. Especially after cutting him I am afraid to go too short.

@Adira: She didn't say anything other then most babies eat 5-6oz bottles at this age. Said that she needs at least 25ozs a day. But I don't know how much she is getting since she is BF, for 2 or 3 feedings a day.

  12. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: Yay!!! Congrats Isaac!!! I'm curious if he'll do it again. Xander's done it a couple times, but he still struggles a lot and can't do it all the time, so I don't know what's going on with him.

@Smurfette: Oh wow, really? I didn't know about the 5-6oz bottles. Doesn't it depend on how MANY bottles they're getting? How many ounces is she eating during the day at daycare? I know Xander eats 15oz at daycare and then nurses 3 times at home. So I don't know how many ounces he's getting total either, though I assume it's around 25-30oz (though he's not gaining weight like he's eating that much!).

  13. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Smurfette: @Adira: How are you really supposed to know how much they are getting unless they had all bottles. I would have no idea how much Isaac gets as he only nurses.

@Adira: I hope he rolls again. Although if he starts rolling all the time I will never be able to turn my back on him again.

  14. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: Yeah, I have no idea. I can only assume that Xander's getting roughly the same amount from me that he is from his bottles since he does 3 bottles at daycare and 3 nursing sessions at home. Since he goes 3 hours between, regardless of whether it was a bottle or the boob, I'm guessing he gets about the same amount from both sources. But that's just a guess! If I was ONLY nursing, I'd have nooooooo clue how much he was eating!

  15. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@ALV91711: Yay for rolling! I still haven't seen R do it. She still won't roll even to her side from her belly to back.

No clue how you should know when BF. I have a feeling she will make me do all bottles for a couple days to know what she is getting if she doesn't have a good gain.

@Shopaholic: That story about the scissors is so scary! That reminds me I should be sure they are always put away - we keep them in a little basket right now on the dresser but I sometimes forget and leave them out - that's crazy that she got the safety cover off!

@ALV91711:Yay for rolling - that is so exciting! That's super cute that he was smiling about it!

Okay, I feel kind of bad... Xander is overtired and fussy so I just pawned him off on Hubs. In my defense, Hubs is going out tomorrow night and abandoning me and the baby, so I don't feel THAT bad about tonight.

  18. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: I wouldn't feel bad either. It is good for the dads to deal with them when they are cranky too.

  20. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: @Smurfette: Yeah, I've decided I don't feel bad about it! Yesterday, I had to entertain Xander, feed him, give him a bath, and put him to bed all by myself because Hubs was feeling LAZY. THEN I made dinner. So he can deal with fussy baby for 20 minutes (literally - it was less than 20 minutes).

@Smurfette: I was thinking about you as I was cutting Xander's nails. I was only able to cut 7 of them because he started spazzing out! Oh well.

I had to take out 4 ozs of milk from the freezer today in order to send 4 bottles. I am sure she will only take 3 tomorrow but if I didn't send 4 she would want 4.

I put her in the crib 30 mins ago and now she is starting to fussy. She was just laying there half asleep before. I don't get babies!

  24. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Make sure you label your bottles so they use the frozen milk first.

And I don't get babies either. Hubs was able to get Xander down just fine, but he woke up an hour later crying. I thought maybe he was hungry because he hadn't seemed to eat much when I nursed him, but he fell back asleep within five minutes, so I don't know what the fuss was about.

  25. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I put 3 bottles in one bag and then the spare is labeled spare. So I made sure to put the frozen with the three so those will get used first.

R woke up at 1125. I finally just came in to nurse her. I don't know that she was really hungry but she wasn't settling down on her own. I want to cry caused I feel like such crap and just need to sleep and she won't let me. Tomorrow, well today, I can already tell is going to be rough.

@Adira: yea you shouldn't feel bad. i always feel bad when i do that too, and i have to force myself to think that DH would not feel bad if he did that to me. for some reason, men don't get the same type of guilt that women get. i even asked DH once, "do you ever feel guilty when...." - and his response was, "no, should i?".

@Smurfette: Sorry about the ear infection hope your lo feels better soon!
@ALV91711: Yay congrats on getting into the rolling club!!
So whoz babies not rolled yet? My little J is trying so hard but all he can do is get to his side so maybe in next few days..
@Adira: Ya I am bad with cutting nails too Im afraid to cut them too short and then he ends up scratching himself. I think its one of those things you get better with practice. Hopefully J will get bigger fingers too as I get more experience in
J is feeling better the pedialyte seemed to help and he is not throwing up anymore. He was asleep tonight and then woke up screaming from loud car horn/alarm noise on street . He cried for a minute before falling asleep again but seems fussy. I have noticed this particular noise around same time every night lately. We have AC on and it gives white noise but the noises outside on street are much louder. We live near a busy street and I am seriously thinking to look for some baby headphones..

@Mrs. High Heels: I was just saying to my mom that when we see DH next week I'm going to spend half a day in bed, but I will probably feel guilty and not do it. Why I'd feel guilty I do not know. DH can take care of Isaac just as good.

@silver1: Glad he is feeling better. It is no fun when something startles them awake.

So tired tonight. Isaac didn't go to bed until 10:30. I hope he sleeps a while. I've been having a hard time with these night wakings this week.

@Smurfette: I hope the rest of your night is going better and you are getting some sleep.

  30. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Not going to lie. I cried a little when I saw that you had posted in the middle of the night. When you finally went to nurse her, did she seem to eat hungrily? Or just comfort nurse? I know you said she was pretty hungry the other day, so if she was also hungry last night, it could be part of a growth spurt. And your husband finally comes home tonight, right??

@Mrs. High Heels: True!!! I know Hubs didn't feel guilty when I was dealing with him fussing before I handed him over, so I shouldn't feel guilty either!

@silver1: Xander has rolled a couple times from his front to his back, but he's definitely not consistent with it. And he's never rolled back to front.

Ugh, that totally sucks about the car alarm and all the noise! Maybe you can get an actual white noise machine to play white noise REALLY loud in his room so the outside noise isn't so much louder? Not sure if that would work though.

@ALV91711: How was Isaac's sleep last night after he FINALLY went to bed?

  31. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@silver1: Well I still haven't seen her roll, so part of me doesn't believe she can do it I would be so mad at that car alarm. Glad that he isn't throwing up anymore. That has to be awful.

@ALV91711: How did your night go?

@Adira: Aww, thanks. You are too sweet. She didn't seem super hungry when she was eating not just comfort nursing but it did settle her down and she was asleep within 10-15 mins of me putting her back in the crib. She woke up two more times, but she didn't fussy for too long, and then at 6 for the day. I didn't feed her till 6 though and then she was really hungry.
Yes, DH gets home tonight. He doesn't land till 630, so I feel bad she will most likely be in bed already when he gets home. But I am hoping that means, he will get up in the morning with her and I can sleep in.

We are having a date night in tonight. DH is going to pick up some sushi on his way home and we are going to drink some wine. Hopefully I will be able to stay awake and enjoy it.

  32. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Hmm... I still think it might be a growth spurt, but who knows! I can't figure these babies out. I'm glad she went back to sleep after you nursed her though! Was she able to put herself back to sleep those other times she woke up? Or did you have to go help her?

Ooooh, date night!!! Jealous!! Hubs and I STILL haven't had one of those since having Xander (although we weren't good about having them before Xander either). I hope you have fun tonight! And then get to SLEEP IN tomorrow!!!

  33. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: She put herself back to sleep the other times. She fussed and cried some but it wasn't bad like it was at the 11 wake-up. I hope it is a growth spurt, girlfriend needs to put on some weight!

We are super busy the next month. But I already told my Mom we need to set a date for her and my Dad to come out and babysit so DH and I can go out on a real date. I miss just having us time. Being at home watching TV doesn't count!

  34. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: How was she was the bottles yesterday? I think it was two days ago that she gulped them all down, right?

I feel like Xander doesn't go through growth spurts... I never notice any difference in his eating. He definitely went through some in the first month, but since then, he's been very consistent... maybe that's why he's not growing much?

  35. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Yeah, Wednesday she gulped them down. Yesterday she drank 3oz, but they gave her the bottle an hour early, cause they said she was acting hungry but then fell asleep while eating. But the 2nd bottle, she ate all 5ozs and wanted more. I nursed when we got home at like 530 and then again right before bed at 645.

@Adira: Again, easy baby How much does he weigh? What was his birth weight?

  37. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Definitely sounds like it could be a growth spurt! Which will be good for your little peanut. PLUS it should only last a few days, so hopefully by Monday, she'll be sleeping through the night again!

Xander's birth weight at 8 lbs 14 oz and he currently weighs 14 lbs 2 oz (as of last Friday).

@silver1: K will only roll over on her own on a bed. And maybe the changing table pad if I let her! eek! She can do it with just a little assistance on the floor activity mat, but gets upset once she's on her tummy.

Ah! Ladies! K and I are still battling jet-lag! After some research, seems pretty common that coming back home is worse than going to the destination. K and I both get super sleepy in the late afternoon and evening. We've both taken naps every night, which has ended up going till the MOTN! Luckily, I can often just nurse and put K back in her crib till early morning. But once I am up, it's so hard to get myself back to sleep. Ah! At least, I've been getting in a pump session every morning to build my stash a little.

We have an appt. to get K's 2nd Rotavirus vaccine this afternoon. Scared for the next few days since the last one sent us to the ER for a check! Hopefully can get her weighed and measured too!

  39. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Yes, she needs it. She was 8.4lb at birth and now is 12.8. So really Xander and her aren't that far off, a little over a lb. Your pediatrician didn't seem concerned? What % was he?

  40. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I forget what his % was at birth (I think maybe 70+%), but he's down to 17% now. My pediatrician wasn't concerned at all. She said it was normal for their weight growth to slow down once they start sleeping those longer stretches at night, especially breastfed babies. Maybe the fact that his head and length have stayed roughly in the same percentile since birth helps? He's definitely growing, just not packing on the pounds.
