@shopaholic: Yuck! That sounds awful. Hopefully you both get back on track this weekend.

@Adira: OMG I think K is the opposite of Xander! In the really low % at birth, but keeps growing on the scale! I *think* she's 14lbs now! Curious about her height, but everyone can tell she's gotten taller! Fitting her Baby Gap 3-6 leggings perfectly now - she's definitely having a major growth spurt!
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@Adira: I really hope the boys growth hasn't slowed down like that! They were peanuts to begin with! I was hoping they would both just make it ON the growth chart for their four month appt!
@silver1: We have one and one on the rolling tally. Finn has rolled tummy to back a few times (though he seems to have forgotten how now) an Elliot hasn't rolled yet.
@Smurfette: Sorry R is still not sleeping great! The boys woke up and fussed a few times last night, but they settled themselves back down, until they woke up at 4:15. I'm ready for all these March babies to start sleeping again!
We are all kind of sick at our house. The boys have a lot of congestion, but it seems to be getting a little better. I think I'm a few days behind them in the process, so yesterday and today O feel awful. I feel so bad for them! At least I know what is going on!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. Blue: Maybe the major slowing down is more common in bigger babies at birth? I don't know! My ped just wasn't worried at all and told me it was common. Who knows!

It is hard to keep up with you people! A few busy days and I am a million pages behind. Sorry to all you sick moms and babies. Our collective bad sleep is probably not helping our immune systems...
@Mrs. High Heels: He'll get there! I wonder if it's true what they say about bigger babies hitting some of the physical milestones - like rolling over - later? Our littler one is rolling constantly from back to belly (and waking herself up!) but her bigger sister hasn't done it at all yet. She will roll front to back, but got there later than Caroline too - and she's so miserable doing it!
I loved the quote you posted! This "appreciate every moment" thing is ridiculous. Some moments suck! I have learned to accept that I'm not touchy-feely and that doesn't mean that I love my kids any less. We are more in the dry wit department instead of doting adoration. I think it makes things a little more fun at our house
All this talk about nail cutting is on point for me lately - Caroline has a scratch on either side of her nose because even though I just cut her nails there always seems to be a sharp edge that evades me. Part of me is secretly ok with it, because the scratches help us tell them apart a little easier But the nail cutting is literally the *only* thing that is a mom-only job in our house. My husband is great about sharing baby duties but he won't cut their nails because he is so afraid of hurting them.
And we are in the throes of some brutal teething by Kate. Poor girl has been waking up in serious pain - kicking her legs and rolling from side to side, and crying way more desperately than the norm. She hasn't figured out that she can use her hands to put the teether in her own mouth so it's been a fair amount of us sitting with her and rubbing her gums with it. I finally bought some Hyland's tablets to try and gave her a couple this morning at around 5:30. I don't know how well they worked. It seemed promising initially - she did settle and go back to sleep, but I realized when I put her down that about half a tablet was stuck to my finger (because I'd been holding it under her tongue to dissolve). So I don't even know how much she got! Has anyone else used the tablets? Is there a trick to dissolving them? I feel like I need to keep a finger in her mouth until they dissolve because if she's crying they won't stay put!

@Mrs. Blue: sorry y'all are suck too! I think that I might have gotten R sick again. She was coughing more this morning then she has all week.

@twobee: @Mrs. High Heels: I agree about bigger babies reaching certain milestones later! It's gotta be easier to roll a 10lb body over than a 15lb one! I know with Xander, he's got a big head, so he's STILL a little wobbly holding it up. I imagine that's gotta be pretty normal though because it's a big head! It's got to take more muscle control than a little head, right??
@twobee: I bought those Hyland's tablets, but I haven't used them yet, so I have no advice. Maybe post to the regular boards for advice? I suspect many of us aren't there yet since our babies are probably only JUST beginning to teethe or haven't started yet.
bananas / 9973 posts
@twobee: I haven't tried those tablets yet, but bought them too. I'd post on the regular boards too!
Also, I agree this board is hard to keep up with. Just jump in whenever you get a chance!
bananas / 9973 posts
Question Ladies: How many hours a day total are your LOs getting of sleep now? I was looking it up and I think 4 months averages 14-15 hours/day. K does the bulk of her sleep at night, which I don't mind. But that must be why she rarely naps all day!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
And I agree about the boards. It probably doesn't help that @Smurfette and I are on here ALL DAY and just chat back and forth all day long, haha! If I've been sick and not on for a day, even I get lost! Just pick a recent post and hop into the conversation! It's hard to try to go back and catch up on everything if you've missed a couple days worth.
@Smurfette: Have you ever checked out the leaderboard for just the March 2013 boards? You and I are clearly on here way too much.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: Xander gets around 12 hours of sleep, though sometimes it seems like he's snoozing on the boob while nursing and I don't usually count that time. Most of his sleep is overnight. Usually it's something like this:
7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (I attempt a dreamfeed, but it usually wakes him)
10:00 p.m. - 5:00 a.m.
5:45 a.m. - 7:00 a.m.
Then a random 2-3 hours during the day.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I don't know what you are talking about. I am busy working all day, not keeping HB open all day.
@twobee: I would ask the regular boards cause I haven't even heard of them. We aren't teething yet. We just drool all day long.
@shopaholic: R varies so much. When she is sleeping good, she will get 10-12 hours at night. Then probably 3 for naps. Yesterday she probably only napper 2 1/2 total.
I was wondering when do they start being awake for longer periods during the day. On the weekends, I do naps after two hours of awake time or unless I see her rubbing her eyes earlier. She goes longer at DC but I think they just let her fall asleep instead of putting her down.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Gahh, I was wondering this too!!! Xander goes longer between naps at daycare for the same reason you just stated, but I'm not sure if he SHOULD. Yesterday he was awake for FOUR HOURS and he was one CRANKY baby and I knew it was because he was over-tired, but I'm not sure how over-tired he was. I've picked him up at daycare before when he's been awake for 3 hours and he's been in a great mood and just fell asleep in the car. But yesterday I picked him up and he'd been awake for 3 hours and while he was in a great mood when I picked him up, he did NOT fall asleep in the car and was super fussy after we got home. And I think he can only stay up for 3 hours without getting fussy if he has a long nap right beforehand (yesterday he had a 1.5 hour nap before he was up for 3+ hours).
Soo... I wasn't helpful and am wondering the same thing as you. On weekends, we also put Xander down for a nap after he's been up for 2 hours.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Same with R. She can be up for 3 hours, and not fall asleep and then be fussy all night. Or can be up for 3 hours and fall asleep in the car. Yesterday I picked her up at 445 and she woke up at 210 from her nap, so I was praying she would fall asleep. I even didn't speed as much on the highway, she finally fell asleep and I was thankful for some traffic, so she slept 30 mins total.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: That's like Xander on Tuesday (I think it was Tuesday). He has woken from his last nap at 2:15 and I picked him up at 5:00 and he slept in the car and then continued to sleep once we got home, so he got a 45 minute nap. But yesterday, he had woken from his last nap at 2:00 and did NOT fall asleep in the car and was super cranky once we got home at 5:30. Usually I can nurse him and he'll fall asleep that way, but this time, he DIDN'T. He just nursed for a few minutes and then cried and cried and cried. So I pawned him off on Hubs to put to bed early! I'm hoping today is better since Hubs isn't going to be around.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I LOVE it when she sleeps on the way home. She is so much happier at home till bedtime. I think she might get distracted to sleep. I switched out the toy hanging from the car seat, and she LOVES this pig. Just holds on to it. I might take it off this afternoon and see if she will fall asleep easier.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: What toy is it? I don't have any toys for the car seat and I feel bad for Xander because I think riding in the car is probably boring for him. He's always just kind of grabbing at his bib and the car seat straps since there's nothing else for him to play with.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: It this one. Little girly for Xander. But she just holds on to the pink thing between the legs. It play music as well
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Thanks for the link!! Maybe I can get him a different one that's less girly. Like the Elephant. Poor guy's going to have nothing but elephant toys and decor...
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: This is like the 5th one we have tried and the only one she has shown any interest in. She seems to have multiple pigs somehow as well.

@Adira: @Smurfette: Our sleep was not so great last night. Up 3 times to eat and fussing one other time. I'm sure in the next couple days he will settle in again from traveling and then Tuesday we are heading home for a week, so he will be all messed up again. I'm starting to really look forward to the end of August when we go home permanently and can get him sleeping in his own room and hopefully sleep train. I'm not going to sleep train when we keep going to different places.
@shopaholic: Hope the vaccine goes well today and nobody ends up sick. I think Isaac sleeps around 13-14 hours a day. But it varies as some days he does not nap well and it is less.
@twobee: Teething, I am not looking forward to this! So far all we have is a lot of drool.
@Mrs. Blue: Hope you are all feeling better soon.
I'm looking forward to going to the ped next week to find out how much Isaac weighs. I'm pretty sure he is at least 15lbs. But I'm not looking forward to shots.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Ugh, sorry to hear your sleep wasn't great. It kind of sucks you're doing all this traveling - it's probably really messing him up! It'll be nice once you're home for a long stretch and he can get settled!!! I bet the sleep will improve at that point! Or you can at least sleep train.
Oooh, big baby if he's 15 lbs! I can't wait to hear his stats!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: I am sorry!! Is he sleeping in the same thing every night regardless where you are?
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: Yes, he sleeps in his pnp in the same room as me. He has since birth. But I'm wondering if sometimes I'm waking him up as I'm a noisy sleeper.
Every time we go to a new place he will settle into the same night schedule of three wake ups, but it takes a few days.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: I am sorry!! He could be waking up cause he hears you. I know many found babies started sleeping better when they were moved into their own room.
Hang in there Momma!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: Only a few more weeks and we will be back permanently at our house and then a couple weeks after that DH will be done working out of town. Then things will be back to normal and we can sleep train.

ALV91711: Sorry you aren't having good sleep! We have Liam in our room too and I was beginning to wonder if maybe some of the noise of me moving around or whatnot was waking him up (he is just right next to me in an arms-reach cosleeper) I wanted to move his crib into our room for a little while (since his room gets really hot from being in the front of the house) but duh! it doesn't fit thought the door. Going to have to do some sort of sleep training in the coming weeks once I figure out a solution to the stuffy nursery.
persimmon / 1223 posts
@twobee: I totally can't keep up with the boards either! I usually check in during the day at work - but then at home and during the weekends I get so out of the loop!
We are maybe starting teething too - but not totally sure - I got Liam an amber teething necklace to try but am kind of skeptical about it (it sure looks cute though) We also got some different teethers to try but I'm not sure if he is interested in them at this point.

OMG Andy has been treating us with the saddest screaming all afternoon. Won't sleep and nothing will consistently calm him. Definitely worse when I try to lay him down. This has gotta be teething, right? I just have him some Tylenol and he fell asleep on me, which he hasn't done since he was two weeks old. Poor guy.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
Guys... J rolled over today for the first time!!!! I'm so proud, but so sad I wasn't there to see it since I was working. I love being a working mom, but when things like this happen I wish I was around for him more in the infant stage. Now I'm getting all sad thinking all our babies are growing way too fast!!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@aprk: J has been doing the same thing all afternoon too, it's definitely teething for us because Hyland's teething tablets make him feel better for awhile before the painful screaming starts up again. Is Andy biting his fingers or gnawing on stuff?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@aprk: poor guy! Glad the Tylenol helped.
These were R's naps today, 35 mins, 30 mins, and then 3 1/2 hours!!!!! She all her bottles too. Can we say growth spurt?!?! One teacher said she is going to be a foot taller on Monday.
Sad, DHs flight is late cause of storms here.
Also I layed her on our bed while I went to the bathroom and she rolled over. First time somewhere besides her crib. I still haven't seen it!
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: Sorry you've got a sad little dude, too! he's been biting his fingers for a week or so now. I'm glad the tylenolhas helped him for now but I'm gonna have to go get some Hyland's! How often can they have the tablets?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: go J!!!! Did day care tell you? I don't want them telling me stuff like that. I would rather know she hasn't done stuff yet. R eats her hands all day long but I don't think we are teething but I have no clue. I should pick up some tablets just to have on hand.
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: @Smurfette: you've got rollers!!! Don't worry, once they do it more consistently you see it all the time especially bc they roll for fun and then get stuck and start crying, haha
persimmon / 1223 posts
@shopaholic: I don't know if Liam is getting that much sleep! We try to get him down to bed by about 7 or 7:30 then up for the day around 5:30 that would be 10 hours minus his wake-ups which probably take up about 30 min to and hour off his sleep. During the day it just depends on if he naps well - at daycare he usually only takes a couple long naps so about 2 hours more and then sometimes a long nap after DH picks him up in the afternoon - so more like 12-13 hours probably. Weekends he naps longer sometimes so maybe he gets closer to 14-15
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@Smurfette: @Mrs. High Heels: I tell DH all the time that if the boys do something for the first time at daycare they better not tell me and just let me believe they did it at home first. Yesterday, one of the girls at the front desk said Elliot was so cute today and was laughing (which they have never done at home). I told DH when we left, that they better have meant just smiling and cooing (which they do all the time) because I'll be so annoyed if daycare can get them to laugh and we can't.
Speaking of, when did all your babies start really laughing? Neither of ours do yet, and it's killing me.

@ALV91711: @dojo: I think K sleeps a lot better in her own room at night. On our trip, any little sound or light would wake her and she couldn't settle back to sleep. Since she's back in her own room, she's sleeping longer like normal.
* I mentioned it before, but it's a funny coincidence when I didn't put on her amber teething necklace for 2 days, her drooling was INSANE and she kept jutting out her bottom jaws, but hasn't since I put the necklace back on! Coincidence, probably, but still interesting!
@Mrs. High Heels: @Smurfette: Yay for your rollers! I still have to keep working with K to do it on the floor by herself. She'll do it on the bed, but not on the floor yet.
@aprk: Sorry to hear about the screaming. Hope the Tylenol or tablets help.
I'm kind of glad to hear that K isn't the only one not really sleeping that many hours. I'm going to try to be better at tracking her sleep though.
Just got back from the pediatrician's office and I decided then and there to just switch to this doctor (instead of just for this vaccine). I liked his staff and he's always been so great at call-backs, answering questions, and follow-up calls. Feels weird to leave the other ped and not tell them, but what to say? IDK?
So K's stats at 18 weeks + 2 days:
13 lbs 3 oz (I was totally OFF on my weighing!) - 50%
24 1/4" L - 50%
Head (IDK exact) - 10%
I'm quite amazed! My little munchkin's gone from the 4-6% to 50%! And she's still got a petite head Even the doc admitted she's got some chubs though...heheh, but didn't think I was over-feeding her. Today's the first time we gave her 2 vaccines in one visit, so I'm hoping she'll be okay this weekend. She hasn't had any of her 4 month vax yet (and I think even some she should have already had), so I needed her to start catching up. Still going to space out vax. though. Hoping she'll sleep well this afternoon and I can get some much-needed cleaning up done.
