@Adira: Awww! What a cutie in the life jacket! Boo he has a fever!
We had a busy at-home weekend this weekend and K is finally back to her normal sleeping schedule!
We had family over on both nights, and Little Miss loves to be in the middle of all the action! Sat. she started getting sleepy before 8, as usual since we got back from our trip. I put her down to sleep and she slept about ~1/2 hour before waking up again, ready to play with everyone! Obviously, things were not that quiet. But everyone being over forced ME to stay up past 8pm for the first time all week, but I was DYING! So after everyone left, we did normal bath/bedtime routine and we both went to bed straight after. K slept 13 1/2 hours with 2 wake-ups to feed! We paid for that with basically no naps all Sunday. She had one 25 min. nap all Sunday. I've been trying to implement some nap-training habits so when she was falling asleep on our very short car ride, I tried to keep her awake and put her down at home. She only laid there, quietly babbling to herself for about 10 min. before she needed to be picked up. I think because DH's family had arrived and she could hear the kids. Then, as tired as she was the rest of the night after her one nap, you could see her fighting sleep because she just always wants to socialize! Obviously, she can't do that on an everyday basis, but since she wasn't crying or fussy, I just let everyone keep holding her. And she goes down for the night super easy, so I can't complain.
My cousin brought over an exersaucer for her on Sat. and I do think she likes it a lot since it's upright! But she is still much to small for it, she would need pillows and towels to prop her upright in the seat and her feet are nowhere even near the ground yet. lol. Maybe in a couple of months.
How was everyone else's weekend?

@shopaholic: Sounds like you had a busy weekend!!! And 13.5 hours of sleep sounds amazing! That's more than Xander usually gets ALL DAY, haha. So maybe she really didn't need a lot of napping during the day since she was getting so much sleep over night. Who knows though!
We sort of tried to put Xander in an exersaucer this weekend too, but he definitely didn't fit in it well and he's still too wobbly, so it would've also needed to be packed with stuff to hold him upright. I think he probably can't go in it until he can sit unassisted.

@shopaholic: Sounds like a busy weekend. That is going to be us this weekend. Although I am super happy, just got a text from SMIL and they are all getting a hotel this weekend. We only have one guest room, so 4 adults and 2 really loud boys couldn't have stayed with us anyway. But I am glad none are, so R will hopefully get some good sleep Sat night night, since Sunday is going to be busy. And she will be passed around all day long.
@shopaholic: @Adira: I got our exersaucer out last night. My brother and SIL gave us the one my nephews used. So I cleaned it and going to wash the seat tonight. Day care said she likes it. I figure I will put a pillow under her since her feet won't reach. Could you put pillows in so they have more support in the seat?

Oh! I forgot to tell you, @Smurfette! I asked daycare about putting Aquaphor on Xander's face for his ezcema and they were totally okay with doing it. Just from them doing it ONE DAY, when I picked him up in the afternoon, his face was SERIOUSLY improved!!! I continued to lather him in Aquaphor all weekend and his face is looking sooooooooooo much better!!!!
My only concern now is that the main daycare lady is on vacation this week and I don't know who's taking over her duties. I'm not sure they know to put Aquaphor on him, so he might be back to having dry, itchy skin tonight. Guess I'll find out tonight!
bananas / 9973 posts
@Smurfette: That basically was how our house was this weekend. My cousin has 2 LOs and we had 7 adults. My SIL has 2 rowdy boys
and we had 6 adults. So I can't blame K for not being able to nap.
Our ped told us to wait until closer to 6 months for exersaucers or jumping chairs (even though our last ped said 4 months would be okay). I'm just going to see how she's developing. At this point, she needs a booster from underneath and booster and proppers in the chair and she can't even reach or see most of the toys.
@Adira: Aquaphor is some amazing stuff! I use it on K's face and myself (I have eczema) all the time. When we were flying, after one hour I started seeing red, rough patches on K's cheeks. I immediately whipped out the Aquaphor and continued to put it on her throughout the flight and it cleared up and her skin stayed soft and smooth! I also wiped her face all the time on vacation because strangers were always touching her. Then I'd put Aquaphor on. A little goes a long way. Maybe if you just make sure he goes to DC with some on freshly and as soon as you pick him up, he'll be covered?

@shopaholic: Yeah, hopefully it will be fine, especially since he's looking a lot better from continual use over the weekend! He was just in bad shape before because I wasn't using anything, or when I was, I wasn't doing it regularly, so his skin was soooooooo dry and itchy and he was constantly scratching at it. Hopefully now that it's better, going through daycare without it won't be so bad!

OMG, Xander was being so funny yesterday. He had that fever (though I didn't know it at the time) so he was really hot, so I started just blowing on his face to cool him down. Every time I blew on him, he'd do this little gasp, like he was trying to suck in the extra air I was blowing on him! And he would smile like crazy. He LOVED it. Every time he would gasp, Hubs and I would just start cracking up, and then he would start laughing too! It was so cute!

@dojo: @Adira: hope your sick babies are feeling better today!
@Smurfette: we used that wedge for N because she had some reflux issues, but we put it under the crib sheet ABOVE the mattress. your way is SO much better!!! why didn't i think of that?
@Adira: Xander looks adorable in his life jacket! Even now, N doesn't like being in cold water so I don't blame Xander for not taking to it. Heck, even I don't even like cold water.
@Smurfette: Ever since J started rolling on Thursday, he's been a rolling machine too! I leave him for one second and he's on his tummy again. We haven't seen any back to tummy rolling yet though!
@shopaholic: That's great that your sleep is back on track, and that she goes down easy for the night!
------
Last night I decided to sleep train with CIO no checks. J cried for only 25 minutes and fell asleep. I was bracing myself for a longer session, but I'll take that for our first night! He woke up at 3:30 am so I nursed him, then he woke up for the day at 6 am.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: haha, yeah, I'm not surprised he didn't like the cold water. Hubs hates cold water too! It has to either be 90+ degrees out for him to go in OR the water has to be in the 80s!
Wow!!! 25 minutes for your first night doing CIO seems awesome!!!! You'll have to let us know how tonight goes! But it definitely sounds like a great start!!!

@Adira: to drown out the crying i went downstairs and started doing the dishes... checked the monitor after 15 min and he was still crying (but not very intensely), so I decided to finish up the dishes, and by the time I was done he was asleep!

@Adira: Sounds so cute!
@Mrs. High Heels: That is great! After over a week it still takes R that long to go to sleep. Last night was rough, I poured myself a drink.

@Smurfette: how long did it take her last night? did you have multiple wake-ups last night or is that getting better?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: It took her like 30-35 mins to fall asleep. Then she woke up at 1130, I went to check on her and she wasn't hungry, so she just fussed for 30 mins. Then she woke up again at 1, and never really cried, just fussy off and on for 30 mins. Then she slept till 530 when we got up for the day.

@Smurfette: oh man... i hope things get better for you soon. she's a tough cookie! DD is a lot more stubborn than her brother, and my DH and i always joke that she'll be a future CEO or something with persistence like that, lol. our return on investment.
did you and DH ever get to have a date night after he got home last week?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: She is a tough cookie. I was thinking last night, I thought it is supposed to get easier every night. It isn't in our house. Oh well, at least it isn't an hour or anything.
Never got our date night, he didn't get home till 945. Sat night I was on the go all day, he did yard work and then painted our bedroom. So we were in bed at 915 cause we were so tired.

@Adira: so cute in the life jacket. I don't blame him on not liking the cold water.
@Mrs. High Heels: that is pretty fast to fall asleep. Hopefully it continues to be good.
@Smurfette: I hope she goes back to sleeping through the night soon.
@shopaholic: Glad to hear she is back on her regular schedule.
Today I'm exhausted. Isaac did not want to go to sleep last night and he was still up at 8. He is napping now and I should be too but the roof is being worked on and it is too noisy for me. Luckily Isaac sleeps through anything.
Tomorrow we fly home for a week, so I guess I should be packing. It will be nice to be at home with DH for a few days. Then it will only be a few more weeks apart and we will finally all be home together. I can't wait.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Sometimes Xander doesn't fall asleep until 8:00, depending on when his last nap was. Was he fussy? Did he sleep well once he DID fall asleep? That's great that he can nap while all that noise is happening! But bummer for you - I'm the same way.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Adira: yesterday he only had one long afternoon nap which he was awake from at 5. He was pretty happy all evening and was sleepy but would not go to sleep. And he didn't sleep that well. Cried after nursing in the night. I hope tonight is better.
I was going to sleep train when we got back home in a few weeks, but now I'm thinking of doing it when we are back at my moms in a week as we will be here a few more weeks and it is just getting harder to get up in the night. I'll talk to DH and the ped about it this week.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Hmm... I wonder what his deal was then! Maybe just didn't want to miss any time with Mommy! I hope tonight goes better for you.
And I think it makes sense to sleep train at your mom's since you're going to be there for a while! Plus he's a good age for sleep training. You may just have to re-train once you're home for good.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: I am sorry!! I would go ahead and sleep train while at your Mom's. You are going to be there for awhile longer. Hang in there Momma. I am sure in no time you will be getting more sleep then any of us.

@Smurfette: woo hoo!!
Ladies, we are struggling today. I have a chest cold with body aches and a deep cough. Andy doesn't seem ill in any way, which is great, but he won't eat. He doesn't seem to be teething or in pain, it's almost like he just wants to be active and playing on the ground instead of eating. What do I do??
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: That is awesome!
@aprk: I hope you feel better soon, it is no fun being sick. I guess just keep offering and he will eat. Is he still having wet & dirty diapers?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I was wrong it was 20oz not 22oz, which was good since R ate all 4 bottles today!! Someone is getting her appetite back!! Glad that I had just enough for tomorrow so I didn't have to go into my freezer stash.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
OMG - WTF is my husband doing!!!! I just finished feeding Xander and tried to put him back to bed, but he woke up and started fussing, so Hubs said "Want me to take over?" and I said "Sure" and so he started TALKING TO HIM, brought him out to the TV, and now is SINGING to him and trying to engage him! I'm like "WTF!!!! He's TIRED!!!!" Xander is getting more and more hysterical since Hubs took over because Hubs is just waking him up even more!!!!! I'm so pissed!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Adira: That sucks, now you are going to probably have to take back over with a more tired baby. Why don't men always think. I hope that he is back to sleep soon.

I was so happy. Isaac nursed at 8:45 and was in bed asleep by 9:30. Then 10:15 he wakes up screaming and wants to nurse again. Half an hour later he is asleep in bed. I am pooped.
The next two nights I am on my own, and there is pretty much no chance of going to bed early since we are going home and it is an hour ahead there.
I hope everyone else is having a good night and getting some sleep.

J went down tonight at 8pm... he fell asleep while nursing (he usually doesn't do that, though I wish he did!), and he woke up crying 8 minutes ago. My first instinct was to go to him because I thought maybe he woke up not knowing where he was since he was so knocked out when I put him down instead of just drowsy. I told myself I'd give him 15 minutes before going to him. He's still fussing on and off but seems to be calming down... I'm hoping he'll fall back asleep but if not, I'll probably go in just to make sure things are ok.

@Adira: OH MY GOSH. I would be LIVID. Why did he do that???
@ALV91711: Oh no.
I hope the rest of your night gets better!

Hey everyone! Just checking in quickly -- it's hard keeping up with you ladies.
We are set to move to our new house this week, which has been keeping me busy between our renovations and packing and still taking care of an almost 5 month old. (Man, only one more week!) Is it bad that one of the things that I am going to be most careful with on our move is my freezer stash of milk? Haha.
Baby boy is doing really well. He's in the 80th percentiles for height and weight, and he is sleeping 8pm-6:30/7am at night. He's also started to fall into a more consistent nap schedule, although I need to be better at making sure that he naps more in his crib (instead of out and about or in my arms or on our bed, etc). He usually falls asleep at 8:30/9, 12, and 3.
In terms of physical development, it's crazy to think how much more he can do now than even 1 month ago. He still hasn't rolled back to belly, although he often makes it to his side before flopping back. Our ped has mentioned that babies on the higher end of the percentiles for weight/height sometimes will hit those milestones a bit later, so I'm not worried at all. It takes a lot of effort to flip that big booty over.
We are going on a couple of vacations next month, including a trip to Punta Cana. We just ordered him a baby sun tent, and I am going to need to get some good recs for baby sunscreen. I've already purchased some cute trunks and rash guards! He has tried one pair out already, since we had a swim date with some of the people in our mommy group. He seemed to really like the water: splashing and kicking around. He even smiled after coming up from underwater. I want to sign him up for lessons once he turns 6 months -- what seems to be the minimum age for a lot of places around here.
My husband comes back from a business trip tomorrow afternoon, and boy am I glad to have reinforcements again! He was only gone 2 nights this time, so I give you ladies a ton of credit who have husbands who travel more often and for longer.
Hope everyone is having a good night!

@ALV91711: @Smurfette: he has normal diapers, and finally ate while sleepy. I think it's just wonder week behavior.

@aprk: glad to hear he did eat.
@Mrs. High Heels: I hope he went back to sleep.
@mole: Sounds like you've been busy. I hope the move goes smooth and you have fun on vacation.
1:30 and we are up nursing.

@ALV91711: @Mrs. High Heels: I have nooooooo idea what my husband was thinking! Apparently that engaging Xander and talking to him would calm him down?? I tried to take over because he was just making Xander more and more hysterical, but he wouldn't let me.
I think he saw it as a challenge by the end. He finally did ask me what was up with Xander and what I thought he wanted and I was like "TO SLEEP!!!! He's TIRED!" UGH. He FINALLY did change tactics though and actually tried to calm Xander by shushing him and patting him and Xander FINALLY fell asleep. I kind of think he just stopped crying out of sheer exhaustion though - I'm not sure Hubs was that helpful. Poor baby.
@Smurfette: 20oz is still amazing! So jealous!! And that's awesome that R has gotten her appetite back! She must finally be feeling better!! Apparently I had told the daycare providers to try to keep Xander to his 3 hour schedule so as to not give him the 4th bottle and they took that too strictly. They asked me today if they could feed him more because he apparently was getting hungry earlier. Now I feel bad because I guess they were forcing him to just wait even though he was hungry.
I told them that of course they could give him his bottles earlier if he was hungry! I just hope it's not an everyday occurrence. I suspect he may have just been dehydrated because of his fever and it was soooooo hot here. Guess I'll see how today goes.
@ALV91711: Uh oh! I hope he's sleeping for you now and doesn't have too many more wake-ups!!
@Mrs. High Heels: Was J able to fall back asleep on his own okay?
@mole: Phew! You've been busy!!! Congrats on the new house! And I would totally be the most concerned about moving my freezer stash too! How far do you have to travel with it? Just pack it with LOTS of ice!!!
As far as sunscreen, we have BabyGanics and I really like them. Xander has sensitive skin, but it doesn't bother him at all and seems to work well.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Seriously! Men just don't get it. I have had to tell DH many times, don't talk to her, she needs to sleep. Glad that he finally asked you what was wrong. Hopefully he learned his lesson.
@ALV91711:
I am so sorry! You seem to be having the worse luck with sleep. Is he hungry every time he wakes up?
@Mrs. High Heels: How did J do the rest of the night?
@mole: I would be concerned about the milk as well! You can't replace that. Glad that baby boy is doing so great. Vacation sounds so nice right now. No advice on sunscreen since we haven't used any yet since I thought we weren't supposed to till 6 months.
@aprk: Glad A finally ate. Hopefully he didn't keep you up all night.
@Adira: Is he wanting to eat more then 3 hours? Could he be going through a growth spurt? I hope I have a good pumping day, cause R woke up at 430, to eat, so she will go through all 4 bottles today cause I didn't feed her again before we left.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
R only woke up once last night, around 11. I heard her fussing and I turned the volume down like I always do. I fell asleep, opps! I feel really bad, but I think my body would have woken up if she was really crying. So not sure how long it took her to fall back asleep but she was in the same position when I woke up when she started being fussy, so I am guessing not long. Then she slept till 430, I nursed her and she was back asleep till 620. When she woke up and just started talking to herself. It was so cute!! I got many smiles this morning, broke my heart leaving her at day care.
