@Smurfette: haha, I don't think he did! He tried to tell me that Xander was just as hysterical when I had him, and I was like "Uh, noooo he wasn't. He was just doing his normal fussing when he's tired. He was hysterical when you decided to wake him up even more!" Oh well.
Well, I got the impression that he WANTED to eat more than 3 hours, but they didn't let him because of what I had told them before! I didn't actually MEAN for them to keep him on a strict 3-hour schedule, just to not turn to food as their go-to if he's being fussy. Ugh! So I'm not sure if he's going through a growth spurt or not. He seemed normal last night, and didn't wake up hungry in the middle of the night, so who knows! I guess I'll just have to see what happens today. I'm thinking that probably he was hungrier more than normal because he was dehydrated (fever + HOT weather) and/or because he was drinking milk from April, which probably isn't as fatty as my current milk, so it wasn't filling him up as much as nursing does. Today he's got fresh milk from yesterday, so we'll see how it goes!
@mole: @Smurfette: I also thought we weren't supposed to use sunscreen until six months, but my pediatrician said it was okay to use and to make sure it was 50 SPF. I bought BabyGanics because it's very natural and the main ingredient is Zinc Oxide, which doesn't absorb into the skin. I also tested it on Xander first to make sure he didn't have a reaction, and he didn't, so we lathered him up in it since we were going to be outside for a lot of the day. We kept him in the shade mostly though, just to be on the safe side.
I think that the recommendation is really to keep them out of the sun as much as possible, but if they ARE going to be out in the sun, it's probably best to put sunscreen on them than to risk them getting burnt. We kept Xander in the shade and also had a rashguard on him, but put sunscreen on him anyway just to cover our bases (and because the pediatrician said we could).

@Smurfette: Oh my gosh, R is soooooooooo adorable!!! That's the only bummer about not dropping off Xander at daycare - I don't get to see any of those morning smiles! By the time I pick him up in the evening, he's often tired and cranky! She looks like she's sooooo happy!!!
And I definitely wouldn't worry about the fact you fell back asleep!! If she was really upset, she would've woken you! It's great she was able to fall back asleep on her own!!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Thanks for the recommendation on sunscreen. I was thinking about just getting her some and making sure she has a good bath that night if we use it. Where did you get it? maybe he was dehydrated. Could be the milk as well. I don't have an milk that old.
Thanks, I think she is pretty cute. It is hard to get her smiles on camera, so I was so glad that I got one this morning. I made sure to text DH right away. I tried to get a good one to send him last night and she wouldn't smile for me.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I got the sunscreen at Target, so hopefully you'll be able to find some! And we did the same thing - we washed him well that night after he had the sunscreen on, just to be on the safe side!
And I have no idea about the milk - I've sent frozen milk before and they didn't have any issues, so who knows what's going on! Oh well.
I know what you mean about the smiles!!!! Xander will be smiling like crazy and as soon as I get a camera in front of him, he just stops and stares at it, haha. I think he's just like "WTF is that??" I've only gotten two smiles on camera I think and they were both when he was looking at something else. I want more pictures of my smiley baby!!!

J did go back to sleep within 15 min! Then he woke up around 2:40 so I nursed him, and he slept the rest of the night. Just woke him at 6:30 so I can nurse before going to work!
@Smurfette: I've accidentally fallen asleep too! It happens and your R is obviously still so happy this morning!! Glad you got some rest last night. That picture is so so cute, who can resist that face??
@Adira: My pediatrician said sunscreen was ok before 6 months too as long as the main ingredient is zinc oxide. I haven't really had a need to use sunscreen on J yet, but we use babyganics on N. Mrs. Bee recently wrote a sunscreen guide. I want to try a few of her recommendations next because there are mixed reviews on babyganics.

Soooooo... the subject of Baby #2 got brought up again this weekend! We were at FIL and SMIL's house and I forget how the subject got brought up, but I mentioned to them that Hubs wasn't even sure he wanted another. Hubs said something like "Yeah, I'm not sure... though I probably will want another at some point." And then SMIL said "Well, maybe in a couple years you will!" and Hubs said "Actually, we want them to be pretty close in age." Then we were talking about how it would be nice for Xander to have someone close in age to play with (and Hubs agreed). And also about how going from 0 to 1 is probably harder than going from 1 to 2 (and Hubs agreed).
This is totally progress, ladies!!!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: That is awesome. Good job J!! Thanks, for making me feel better by saying you have fallen asleep too. She was seriously so cute this morning.
@Adira: Sounds good. I still think it is crazy talk to be thinking about #2. I don't know how my Mom did it. We are all 18 months apart, so she had 3 under 3. Worse nightmare!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: haha, I know it's crazy, and I kind of don't even WANT to have Baby #2 because I'm having soooooo much fun with Xander. But I want to stick to my plans!!! Assuming my period ever shows up and I actually can get pregnant, which might not be anytime soon.
And OMG - 3 under 3 is crazy!!! 2 under 2, I think I can do, but 3 under 3, no thank you! Your mom's a superhero!

@Adira: are you going to stop BF so you will get your cycle back?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: haha, I actually thought about that! But no, it's more important to me to keep breastfeeding I think. Though my mom said when she introduced solids to my brother and I at six months, we naturally ate less breast milk and her cycle returned. I'm curious if the same will happen to me, although I really want to try to make sure Xander continues to get most of his calories from BM and just have solids be extra. If that means I can't start TTC for #2 until he's 1, that's okay. I'll just have to hope I get knocked up immediately once we start trying, haha.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I can't decide on how long I am going to BF. I had planned once I started back to work, to start to wean her but I don't really have a desire too now. Now that I know she can take a bottle, it takes so much pressure of me. Although I still wish that we could give her a bottle when at friend's but then I have no way to pump, so I just have to do it. What is sad is that one reason I want to stop is I miss half my clothes and I am over my big boobs.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: haha, I'm the opposite! I LOVE my breastfeeding boobs!!!! But I had little boobs before and these new big ones help mask how large my stomach actually is, haha. And I know what you mean about wishing you could give a bottle! I often wish I could give Xander a bottle when we're out and about, but then I'd have the pumping issue, so I just nurse him. BUT I love nursing him late at night and in the morning - it's our special time together, so I really don't want to give that up, and that's part of why I want to continue! I'm curious if I'll feel differently once I reach my goal of EBF for six months. Only 1.5 months to go!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I agree, I do love the mornings and nights with her. A couple times DH will give her a bottle and I get sad but he loves it. She is so sweet during her last feeding before bed. I am with you now, going to do 6 months and then see how I feel.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yes, I agree! Feeding a sleepy baby is probably the best. He's so snuggly and I love how much comfort he gets from nursing and that milk drunk expression on his face when he's done!
Yeah, we've made it this far, we might as well go to six months! Then we can reevaluate! Assuming I'm able to keep up with how much Xander eats, I'll probably continue, although if my baby fever hits with any real force, I might rethink it!!

@Smurfette: So cute this morning. Isaac's happiest time of day is after he first gets up. It is so much fun playing in the morning.
@Mrs. High Heels: Sounds like a pretty good night.
@Adira: It must feel good to know that you both are on pretty much the same page when it comes to baby #2.
Well our night went ok. Isaac got up at 1:30 to eat, but we were up almost an hour. And then up at 5 to eat again and then slept until 8. I'm still pooped. Our flight is in about 4 hours and I'm hoping he will sleep through it. It is only 1.5 hours long and I'm hoping he won't want to nurse on it as there really isn't room.
I can't even start to think about #2 yet. Although our plan is to wait until Isaac is closer to 2 to try again.
One of the great things about BF is that you don't have to pack bottles and that when you are out, and middle of the night feedings are easier. I always thought I would just BF for a few months, but have never had a set goal. Now I'm thinking it is going to be quite a while longer as Isaac still hates bottles. I haven't tried one in about 3 weeks because it just isn't worth hearing him scream. We will try again starting next week and see how it goes. But I'm totally fine with EBF until close to 1 as I will be home until then. Pretty much my plan is to do it as long as Isaac wants to.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Bummer your sleep wasn't that great! Hopefully he sleeps on the plane for you!
So jealous you get to stay home with Isaac until he's a year!!! Although it kind of sucks he won't take bottles since you won't be able to go out and about without him and just let someone else watch him for a few hours. Oh well!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@ALV91711: I hope he sleeps well on the plane for you!
@Adira: That's great that your DH is on the same page as you. I love that he spoke up and corrected them about how far apart you guys wanted your kids. He obviously hasn't ditched the "close in age" idea, which is great! I guess in 2 more months we might be seeing a BFP announcement from you on these boards, lol.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: OMG, that would be crazy! I probably won't even be able to get pregnant in two months if I'm still breastfeeding, but I am thinking that I might go off the mini pill then! I probably need to have more talks with Hubs though. I'm thankful that we got the easiest baby in the world though, because I think that will make it easier to convince Hubs to try for #2!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@Adira: I had a difficult 1st baby, and I also started getting baby fever when she hit 6 months. Good thing I knew I'd probably die so I waited until she was 14 months old to TTC, so I wouldn't have 2 under 2. If I had an easy baby I probably would have 2 under 2 right now so definitely don't blame you!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: Okay, that makes me feel better! I was thinking I must be a crazy person for already having a bit of baby fever! It's not like super crazy baby fever or anything - more like I'm thinking about the plan we've had from the beginning and that I want to stick with it, regardless of how we actually feel, haha!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: I am sorry you had another bad night. I hope your flight goes good. You tell your husband that I demand you get some me time when home!! You need a little break!!!
@Adira: you would never convince him for #2 so soon if you had R!! Love her but gosh those first 8 weeks were rough!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@Adira: that was my mentality too... i really wanted two kids about 2 years apart, and even though i had just gotten my body back and finally felt like i was getting the hang of things with just one kid, i wanted to try again in the time frame that we planned.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
Woo hoo! I managed to pump 20oz again, so I won't have to dip into my stash since I know she will have had her 4th bottle today.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: hahaha, maybe that's why the universe gave me an easy baby so I could stick with my plan?? Even with the easiest baby on Earth, Hubs still isn't convinced, haha! I can only imagine how against having #2 he'd be if Xander was even slightly more fussy!
YAY!!! Congrats on pumping 20oz again!!! R must've really kick-started your supply over the weekend! Woohoo! I, like always, pumped my normal 16oz. Though, what's sad is that 10oz of it is from one side! I have such a slacker boob.
@Mrs. High Heels: I'm so glad to hear that you had a similar mentality about it! That makes me feel better about my thought process!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@Smurfette: That's great!!! I usually pump less than 20 ounces when pumping 3x a day at work! On average, I get about 16-18 oz.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
I picked up R at 445 and she hasn't napped since 12!! And that nap was 15 mins, so 90 mins all day.uckily she slept for 20 mins on the way home. Nursing her now, early bedtime tonight. But she ate 19 ozs today, so she is finally eating better!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Wow!!!! Was she fussy??? That's a long time to go without sleep! Glad she was able to sleep in the car though. What time did she end up going to bed tonight?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
So the main care provider for Xander is on vacation this week and one of the women looking after him this week told me he was getting hungry earlier. I asked about it today to a different woman (the only one that was left when I got there), and she said she also thought he was getting hungry earlier, though she wasn't sure. I guess he's been chewing on his hand, but that's pretty normal - he does that all the time, so I'm not sure if that's why the other women think he's hungry...
But THEN the woman I was talking to asked if I was feeding him solids yet, and I said no, and she basically implied that I was starving him. She said that breast milk wasn't very substantial and she fed her babies solids at SIX WEEKS!!!! She thought it was crazy to wait until six months! And then another woman picking up her baby piped in and said she started feeding her baby solids at 3.5 months and that she apparently eats LOTS of solids. The kid is only 15 lbs too (and six months now), so I'm thinking she probably could benefit from more BM or formula and maybe LESS solids! Ugh.
I just said my pediatrician recommended delaying solids until six months and Xander's sleeping through the night and didn't seem hungry to me, so I didn't see any need to rush it.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: She wasn't as fussy as I was expecting her to be. But she was done nursing and in her crib at 645 and asleep by 7. Didn't even really cry.
Are you serious 6 weeks?!?! That is nuts!! Eating their hands doesn't mean anything. R eats hers all day long! Can you wait till the main lady is back and talk to her?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Poor baby must've been so tired! I hope she sleeps well for you tonight!!
Since he only ate 3 bottles today, I really have no idea what's going on. He had one every 3 hours like normal even though they had asked me yesterday if they could feed him sooner and I said they could. I guess I'll just have to see how tomorrow goes and try to talk to whoever is there. And if I can't figure out what's going on, I'll just talk to the main lady next week. She's NEVER said anything to me about Xander being hungry early and I know that she does paced feedings with him because I've watched her give him a bottle before. I think she actually knows what she's doing over these other women who are just subbing in for her. I can't wait until she's back!!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: yeah I would wait and talk to her next week before you change things. The teachers this week don't know him as well so could just be thinking he is hungry when it could be something else.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yeah, I think you are right! Guess I'll just have to wait for now.

@ALV91711: Hope your flight was good with LO and you are getting some rest tonite!!
@Adira: Yay glad to hear you and DH are on same page for #2 looks like some BFP news in near future! Thatz crazy about starting solids at six weeks!! My Pedi recommended starting solids at six or 7 months!! I don't know though whether I want to delay that long as I don't want him to get aversions to food textures or become a picky eater. I am going to check again with pedi in a few weeks about introducing foods just for texture alone. I would still want him to get all nutrition from BM or formula until 7 months or longer.
So we had 4 month appt. yesterday and we have a tall baby which I kind of suspected. Stats are 15.2 lbs (50%) 26.4 inches (90%) and head circumference at 50%. LO got shots and he cried so much Later he slept on way back home and seemed ok. Then he had a bit of fever last night. He didn't cry though and he actually smiled today morning and it melted my heart. Today looks like he is feeling ok was a bit fussy in evening but seems to have settled in for night.
@Smurfette: Aww hope she sleeps off her tiredness and all smiles again tomorrow morning
@Adira: I have LO on paced feeding and feel it is better than just a rigid schedule. Hope your regular DC lady is back soon!
I have question on nipple size for bottle feeding. J is still on NB nipple (and using playtex collapsing bottle) and seems doing ok but I was wondering if/when I should switch to faster flow. What do use to feed your LOs?
pomelo / 5621 posts
The flight today went good. The lady next to me commented on how well he did when we landed. It is kind of strange to be in my own hous, but I can't wait to sleep in my bed.
Tomorrow we go to the pediatrician and the next day shots. I can't wait to find out his stats.
I think tonight Isaac may go to bed early. He didn't nap much and is falling asleep nursing. I'm not holding my breath though.
@Smurfette: I'm positive he will give me some time for myself this weekend as he is probably dying to spend some time with Isaac. I'm also going to see if he can get him to take a bottle.
@Adira: If we fed Isaac every time he chewed his hands then we would always be feeding him. He loves having his hands in his mouth. Good thing the regular lady is back next week.
@silver1: Those are good stats. Glad the shots went pretty good.
I can't believe our babies are 4 months.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@silver1: Sounds like baby is nice and healthy!! We stil use size 1 nipples. They still seem to work for her so I am going to hold off for awhile before going to size 2.
@ALV91711: so glad that the flight went good!!! I hope I and you are enjoying time with Daddy/DH. Let us know how the night went!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Ugh, I'm running sooooo late. Xander decided to take FOREVER to nurse this morning. I think I might have to start getting up at 4:30 in order to ensure I get to work on time... ugh....
@silver1: I hear you about the picky eater thing! I'm nervous about this too! That's why I'm thinking of doing BLW - I'm not positive, but I think giving them normal food and letting them play with it and try it out themselves might help with the texture issue. Also, are you breastfeeding? I think I read that BF babies tend to be a little less picky about food because BM is always changing flavors, so they're not used to just ONE flavor/consistency all the time. But then again, my nephew was FF and he eats EVERYTHING and isn't picky AT ALL, so it probably has no relation, haha.
Sounds like J is growing well!!! Glad the appointment went well, even though the shots didn't. Poor J. Glad he was all smiles later though!
As for nipples - we're still using the 1s (the slowest flow) and until Xander complains about it, we're going to continue using them. Especially because we're still breastfeeding, so I want the bottle to be as slow as possible.
@ALV91711: Glad to hear your flight went well and you're home! How's Isaac sleeping? Good luck at your pediatrician appointment!!
And I totally agree about the hands - Xander chews on his all the time! He'll even get them in his mouth while he's nursing!!! It's definitely not a sign that he's hungry. I can't wait for the normal lady to be back!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
R slept 7-5 last night!!!!! I nursed her and she was falling asleep and put her back in the crib. She only slept for maybe 10 mins before she started being fussy, and I waited a while before and I went and got her. And then she was super happy and smiling this morning. Then passed out on the way to day care.
@Adira: 430 would be rough!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: WOOHOO!!!!! Sleep training SUCCESS!!!! So happy for you and R that you both were able to get a decent amount of sleep last night!!! Yay!!!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I know! I don't know what to do with myself. I slept 10-5!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: You must be feeling FANTASTIC!!! I love getting a full night of sleep!! Xander's been waking up the past few days. I was thinking it was because he was sick the other day (with that fever), but he's done it the past couple days too and he's not sick. He falls back asleep really easily, but it still disturbs my sleep.
