@ALV91711: Fingers crossed for you tonight! Good luck with the shots.
@sheskrafty: Glad that you got a spot in another center. Colds suck. R is just getting over one that lasted about a month. She screams when I use the Nose Frida on her too. Are you using a humidifier? I think it really helped R when we started using it. Pink eye sounds awful too. Poor K! and Mom and Dad.

@sheskrafty: That is good that you got into a better daycare. Hopefully she is feeling better soon.

@Smurfette: Ugh, I hate it when I'm up for an hour in the middle of the night. I can never fall back asleep!! And I totally hear you about the slats! If you're worried, maybe you can get one of those breathable bumpers? Though I hear they can be a pain when you have to change the sheets.
@ALV91711: Good luck with the shots!!! I hope it goes well and he doesn't cry too much. And then maybe he'll SLEEP it all off!
@sheskrafty: Yikes!!! Poor K!!! That whole eye thing sucks! I hope it clears up quickly. And I can't believe all those people smoke!!! Can you smell it on them?? I have no idea if any of our daycare providers smoke, but I've never smelt it, so I'm guessing probably not. Plus they are so busy with the babies, I can't imagine they have time to go out and smoke during the day, but I don't really know. Glad to hear you've got a spot at a better daycare in December!

@Adira: We have a breathable bumper that I friend lent me. So I am going to ask DH about it tonight. I haven't noticed her doing it before today.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Maybe you don't need to install it unless she keeps doing it. Though if you're concerned about her doing it again, you can install it immediately. We don't have a breathable bumper (or any bumper), but Xander's still not mobile at all, so I haven't had to deal with this.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: We are so glad that we don't have regular bumpers since she has started sleeping in the corner right near the slats. The girl is crazy, super cute, but crazy
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: You need to take a picture of her snuggled up in the corner! Xander just sleeps right in the middle of his crib, exactly where we put him. He's rotated before 180, but never scooted or rolled!
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Smurfette: A sleeps on the edge too. I usually put him down there though, so he feels like something (somebody) is touching him

Wow, lots of pages of chat in the last week! We are back from our NY trip and it was a success! Here is my update:
Flight on the way there was fine and L was a trouper. It was a very long day as our flight was canceled and we were rerouted, ended up having to rent a car to drive from a different airport 2 hours away etc. Ugh. But L only had one melt down!
Trip was wonderful and L did great but his sleep continued to get worse over the trip. He was waking up every hour!! So fun on a trip. But at least my ILs were there to help during the day.
He has a cold that he got while we were there so maybe that is contributing. He sounds awful. Also, FIL confirms that he appears to be teething (he is a dentist). So there is that too.
While we were there, he was rolling more from his back to belly, laughing up a storm and sitting up for longer and longer. He can sit pretty well in a tripod on his own or in your lap. He also started grabbing and raking like crazy. Uh oh! I was trying to eat hummus on the plane and he was in my lap. He snatched it off of the tray in the blink of an eye! Yikes!
We have our 4 month check up today so I'll update stats later. Don't know if they'll do the shots if he's sick so we'll see.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: Glad to hear that your trip went well and you all had fun!!! L sounds like he's growing so well!!! I LOVE baby laughs!!! And I'm jealous of your rolling baby. I'm still waiting for Xander to figure it out! I think maybe he's not interested - he's perfectly happy being on his back.
Bummer about the sleep, though I'm not surprised! When did you guys get home? Hopefully his sleep will improve now that you're back. Can't wait to hear his stats after your appointment! If they do end up doing the shots, good luck! Hopefully he doesn't cry too much.

@travellingbee: sounds like a good trip. Can't wait to hear his stats after your appointment today. And if they do shots I hope there ent too much crying.
@Smurfette: That is too cute that she sleeps in the corner. Isaac stays put except for the couple times he has rotated.
@Adira: Hopefully he will sleep them off through the night.
Cute but sometimes annoying, when I'm putting a new diaper on and go to do it up issac will lift his butt up so the diaper will pull out. He thinks it is pretty funny.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
So he's 26.5 inches long (95th), 16lbs 9ounces (75th) and definitely teething. Basically same percentiles as last time so growing at an even rate.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: R moves all around, so it is so hard to get her diaper lined up correctly. I can't imagine how hard it is going to be once she really gets mobile.
@travellingbee: Great news!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
R napped much better today!! Thankfully! We actually got to play a little bit after we got home before bath. She went to sleep without crying again!! I went in there after she was asleep and I checked on her. Her hair looked all matted, not sure if she spit up or not. But I didn't see anything on the mattress. She never rolled around in the crib, she rolled over to her tummy as soon as I layed her down, so no clue how she got anything in the back of her hair. She still had her fingers in her mouth, and her sleeve was wet from the drool. So I took her hand out. I washed her hair out and she didn't even move.
Babies look so cute and peaceful when sleeping.
DH should be home, but his plane is just leaving cause the airport was so backed up.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: Great stats!!! Did he end up getting shots?
@Smurfette: Wow, that's impressive! I think if I tried to wash Xander while he was sleeping, it would wake him up! R must've been in a deep sleep. Glad she napped so much better today and you got to spend some quality time together!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Can your babies bear weight on their legs? One of the daycare ladies mentioned that Xander couldn't, and when I tried to stand him up today, his legs just go totally limp. I was reading that they should be able to do it by 4 months, so now I'm concerned... how are your babies?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Well it was more a wet rag on her head but she didn't move. I just hope she sleeps good tonight. I can sleep in some tomorrow, cause I have to go to the dentist.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Adira: He did and he is a fuss fuss fussy boy tonight. Yeah, Lukas has been bearing weight on his legs since he was a month old though. I don't think that is the norm. The doctor always comments on how unusually strong his legs are. I would just check with the pediatrician. I think it likely isn't a big deal. They develop when they develop....
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: glad you got to have some play time today. That sucks that DH's plane is delayed again. I don't think I could wash Isaac without him waking up. Hope you get a good sleep tonight.
@Adira: Isaac loves being held standing up. Half the time when I try to sit him or lay him on his stomach he likes to put his legs out to stand instead. Maybe just try it with him more often.
Shots went well today. Isaac only cried very briefly. We came home and he slept for almost two hours. Talked to the nurse about ways to get him to sleep longer and ways to take a bottle. I'm hoping he'll sleep longer tonight as he looks kind of dopy.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: R loves to stand up on her legs. Sometimes they go limp, but for the most part she loves to stand up on her legs. But I have no idea when babies are supposed to be able to do it. Day care has told me that they think R's legs are really strong. That other parents comment saying their kids are older and aren't that strong.
@ALV91711: Glad the shots went good. I hope the hints the nurse gave you work!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
I went in the nursery at 6 this morning to nurse and I saw R roll belly to back!! Then later DH saw her do it too!
I was super glad he was home this morning. He said that she had a major blowout when she woke up at 7. In her belly button and everything.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: that is awesome that you saw her roll!
I take it everyone had a good sleep last night since it was pretty quiet around here.
Isaac was kind of fussy throughout the night. I'm guessing from his shots. He got up one time to nurse and fell back asleep, I put him to bed and he quietly fussed for almost half an hour before falling back asleep.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: We were up at 2 and 6 to eat. Not horrible, but the 2 annoys me that I know she can sleep through the night. And she ate good yesterday. oh Well. Glad that you only had to get up once!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: I was up three times. The first time was 1 and he was really hungry. The second time I put him to sleep without nursing, but every time I put him down he woke up, then he nursed a bit and fussed. Third time he nursed and then I gave him to DH. Now it is 8:30 and he is nursing again and I hope he has a nap. It was a bit warm in here last night so I think that didn't help.
I'm hoping for a good nap today, but I also have a bunch of running around that has to be done.

@ALV91711: Did you talk to your husband about sleep training? Or did you decide to wait?
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: we haven't talked about it yet. Thank you for reminding me. He will probably pretty much go with whatever I want.

Is anyone else going to do BLW? And if so when are you planning on starting?
This is what we are doing, and I think we will wait closer to 6 months. I know he isn't ready yet and since weight gain isn't an issue the pedi is ok with us starting when we are ready.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@ALV91711: yes, i did it with my first and plan to do it again!
with my 1st, i did purees for a month just to get her used to the sensation of food in her mouth and swallowing... then switched to full on BLW at 7-months.
this time around, i'll probably do the same thing - purees first then BLW. i might even wait longer than 6-months to introduce any solids at all.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: I think that we are just going to do purees at least the first couple months. I don't know a ton about BLW, so I will look into more. Plus I am not sure how day care would feel about BLW.
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@ALV91711: we're gonna do BLW and start at 6 months, presuming he is good sitting up on his own by then
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Glad to hear your shots went well yesterday!! As for BLW, I'd LOVE to do it, but I'm not sure. I feel like I definitely need to do more research on the subject because I'm scared to just go for it, haha. But whether we do BLW or purees, we probably won't start until around six months.
@Smurfette: YAY!!!! So glad you FINALLY saw R roll!!!! That must've been so exciting!!! I wish Xander would hurry up and do it, the slow poke!
Also, as far as BLW goes and daycare, I figured we would just do dinner with BLW and he'll still just take bottles at daycare. Or if he needs food at daycare, we'll probably do purees and just keep BLW for home.
@Mrs. High Heels: Would you recommend doing purees for a bit before doing BLW? One of the reasons I was thinking of doing BLW was to hopefully avoid Xander being picky about textures. But maybe it doesn't matter?
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: Was it easy to transition from purees to food?
@Smurfette: I didn't know too much until recently. I've been doing a lot of reading in the nights on it and I like the idea of it and so does DH. But I pretty much told him that is what we are doing.
@aprk: Ya, I guess if they aren't good at sitting up by then it will have to be delayed a bit.
@Adira: Probably a smart idea to just do it at home at first and still just send bottles to daycare.
So yesterday after shots Isaac was fine and happy. Last night in the night he was ok and then he woke up so fussy today. He has been fussing for most of the day. We can tell he is not feeling himself. He is a bit warm, but no fever. I feel so bad for him. There has been lots of nursing, cuddling and crying today.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@Adira: You just reminded me - We did all purees first, then we did one meal puree and another meal BLW. It's a great combo - doesn't have to be all or nothing!
@ALV91711: Yes it was! Like I just told Adira, we also did a combo of one meal purees and one meal BLW before going straight to all BLW.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Awww, poor Isaac!!! Hope he feels better soon!!
@Mrs. High Heels: Thanks for the info! Maybe that's what we'll do too!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@ALV91711: @Adira: Also, at that age (6 months), the introduction of solids is meant more for practice than nutrition. They are still getting the majority of their nutrients from breastmilk or formula, so whether you do purees or BLW I wouldn't worry too much about how much they actually consume. This stage is really about teaching them how to use their chew and swallow reflex, letting them play and explore with different textures, etc.

Wow! So much to catch up on reading!
@travellingbee: Glad to hear your trip went well for the most part! Maybe the waking up every hour has to do with the 4 month sleep regression? Funny you mentioned the tripod sitting. Got K to do that a couple times today (unintentionally, but she was holding herself up!) I've also had her grab quite a few things while I'm eating these days. It's more challenging than ever now to eat.
K and I have been going to a few Mommy Meetups this week and it's been really nice to meet some moms IRL. Today we went to the park and it was really nice to see her sort of interact with another LO (who is starting to crawl at 8 months). She was smiling as he was touching her and kept patting her arms and face. I know she'll really enjoy playing once she's older! I think seeing other kids made her more OK with tummy time too!
K also had her longest sleep stretch to date last night! She went 11 hrs and 20 min. without waking to eat! Of course, I'm not holding my breath for that to happen all the time, but it was the first time in a long time that I didn't wake up in the MOTN before she did.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: Poor guy! Hope he feels better soon!
@shopaholic: Glad you found a Moms group!
Guys, I am so not looking to this weekend in many ways. DHs family drives me crazy lately and his sister is the worse. She just put on FB, "can't wait to see my baby girl this weekend. Aunt Name misses you!" WTF!! She is my baby girl not yours. I am going to need to breathe and drink. Luckily my family will be here on Sunday after the baptism so I can talk to them mostly.
We have R's 4 month pictures at 7am! She only does 7am or 530pm this time of year cause of the sunrise and sunset. Since R has been going to bed early we had to do the morning. Brutal. But at least we will be up so that is good since we have a ton of errands to run.
I can't wait to see R baptized on Sunday in the same dress I was baptized in.
