@Adira: I mean she did a complete 180 in the crib but yet she won't roll tummy to back for us again. I guess she doesn't like an audience. Did you get enough pumped?

She did sit up for a good minute today.

Also the teacher tonight said that R gave the morning teacher 3 kisses today at day care before her first nap. Say what? I need to find outside infor on that. I tell her to give me a kiss, put her on my cheek and she keeps her mouth open. I wonder if that is how she did it.

@dojo: solo parenting is exhausting! Just be glad you don't have to do it every week! Luckily R is asleep by 7 so I get bottles ready, wash bottles, eat dinner, and do a load of laundry before bed.

@Smurfette: I was able to get almost 14oz, so close enough! I had some leftover BM in the fridge from earlier this week that I used to get to my quota. I just hope tomorrow is better!!

Based on @shopaholic's post about kisses, it seems early for our babies to be giving real kisses, so that open-mouthed thing is probably what she did at daycare.

I love the open mouth bobbing off your cheek "kisses".

    LO's name: J
    Age: 5 months next Sat
    Weight: about 16 pounds
    Length: 26'' or more
Recent milestones: Rolling back to tummy. Blowing raspberries I think (he makes a "brrruu" noise with lips puckered) and grabbing toes for a few weeks now.
Milestone you're most looking forward to: Sitting upright unassisted at least a few minutes and consistent rolling.
How's feeding going: We have transitioned to EPing and planning to start solids at 6 mo .
How's sleep going: Co-sleeping most nights with 1-2 wakings. My DH and mom help with night time wakings and feedings and love them
What is your favorite trait about your LO? He laughs and talks all the time!!
What is something silly that your LO does? He puts his blanket over his head while sucking on paci as if he wants his private moment.
WOHM, WAHM, SAHM or on mat leave? WOHM

@silver1: You're EPing??? You go girl - that is HARD to do!!! I did it for one weekend while we were out of town, and it SUCKED!

Also, Xander loves pulling a blanket (or anything) over his head too! It's so bizarre!!

Soooo.... like usual, I had terrible luck with the Medela this morning! Maybe it just doesn't work well when my boobs aren't even? (Lefty had about 2.5 oz and Righty only had about 0.5 oz) After 10 minutes, I gave up and used my old pump to get the 3 oz out! Ugh!

BUT I'm pumping with the Medela now after my Dr.'s appointment, and it seems to be working well. Maybe it only works when I'm more full? I have no idea. I'm thinking about bringing it to work to try out today, but I'm scared, haha. Especially with my supply issues I've been having (although the 3 oz this morning was VERY encouraging).

  11. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I just don't understand why it isn't working for you every time. So weird. Maybe you need to play with the settings more.

  12. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Who knows!!! Or maybe I should just try single pumping with it on the boob that I know has more milk in it? I brought it to work with me today though, so I hope it works!!! I forgot my manual hand pump, so I really need it to do it's job!

  13. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: R woke up at 1230 last night, and I thought was going to fall back asleep but after 15 mins was starting to cry. So I went in there and tried to bounce/pat her back while holding her, put her in the crib and patted her back. Nothing worked, so I nursed her. Then she fell asleep till 545. So not as long as normal either. But I think if I had just nursed her she would have gone back to sleep, but it wasn't worth it since I would have had to get her up at 630.

  14. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Bummer she wasn't able to fall back asleep on her own and you ended up having to nurse her!! AND that she woke up early. Did she give you a nice poop present this morning too??

  15. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Frustrating, cause she can put herself back to sleep, just isn't lately. Or maybe she is just use to me nursing her. I don't know. I don't think she needs to eat in the middle of the night but if I stick my finger in her mouth she sucks like she is. So confusing.

Ha! No poop. I texted DH a picture of her in her diaper this morning hanging out in the RnP while I got dressed with this caption "Mommy left me in just my diaper this morning. So I didn't poop, just decided to spit up all over her work pants instead."

  16. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: hahahaha - she'll get you however she can!!!

Hmm.... if she's sucking on your finger, she may just want to suck and is using your boob as a pacifier. Did you try the pacifier again at all?? It could also be she just misses you! My mentor at work was saying this is around the age where they start realizing Mommy & Daddy aren't an extension of themselves and they start to miss us and will wake up just to make sure we're still around!

  17. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I haven't tried it lately but usually it makes it more mad cause she is like what the heck, this isn't Mommy. I might have DH get up this weekend and see if she drinks a bottle, then I will know if she is hungry or not.

  18. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Oh, that's a good idea!! I'm curious if she's actually hungry or just wants some loving!

So I just did my first morning pumping session with the Medela! It's a little more annoying than my old pump because it has more parts to setup, but I was able to pump 3.5 oz, which is exactly what I pumped yesterday, so so far so good! Although... my right nipple looks kind of... funky... not sure if the Medela caused it or not... ugh.

  19. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I think mine look funny right after pumping but then they go back to normal. Glad that you got out what you should have. Was it faster?

  20. travellingbee

    hostess / papaya / 10219 posts

@Adira: No problem! We actually considered Liam too My nipples swell a bit afterwards but go back down quickly.

    LO's name: Kelsey
    Age: 4.5 months

    Weight: 13lbs 11oz at 4 month checkup

    Length: 23.5'' at checkup

Recent milestones: Blowing raspberries, putting pacifier back in her mouth, tummy to back (although she’s only done this once and the other way twice).

Milestone you're most looking forward to: Sitting upright

How's feeding going: We’re about 40 breastmilk/60 formula. Nursing is going awesome, just wish I had more to give. My supply is holding steady now that I’m eating oatmeal, lactation cookies, fenugreek & blessed thistle and drinking the tea – wheeee!!

How's sleep going: She’s been congested for almost a month so sleep is terrible. I think there might be some sleep regression mixed in because she used to sleep from 8-4 and now she gets up at midnight, 2, 3,4,5 etc. Plus some nights she’s so congested she can’t breathe at all and can’t take a paci. We’ve been having her sleep in the rock and play to help her nose drain; hopefully she’ll be able to sleep in the crib again soon.

What is your favorite trait about your LO? She giggles and smiles all the time!!

What is something silly that your LO does? The second we take her diaper off she straightens her legs for a few seconds dramatically. It’s her “light as a feather, stiff as a board” stance.

WOHM, WAHM, SAHM or on mat leave? WOHM

  22. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Oh really? Okay - I'll have to check them out later, haha. I'd look at them now but my cubemate might think I'm bizarre, haha.

And I'm not sure if it was faster! Maybe? I'm kind of a chicken and tend to stick around longer in case there is more to come out. I think it probably was faster, but I'm not sure because I quit at about the same time as normal, haha. But the milk had definitely stopped flowing by then!

  23. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@sheskrafty: OMG, I love you just referenced The Craft in your update!!! And sorry sleep is still not going well for you guys. That's rough. I hope she starts feeling better soon!

  24. dojo

    persimmon / 1223 posts

@Adira: I'm sorry it seems like the Medela isn't working wonders for you. I don't have anything to compare it to really but mine seems to work pretty well. I think you mentioned that you got a different flange size - is that helping?

  25. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@dojo: Yes, I got my new flanges and they definitely are a million times better!!! But my nipples still feel... I don't know... not normal when I use the pump. But maybe it's just because I'm not as used to it? I know it took me a while to get used to my original pump (though I originally had the suction like super high, so that was part of my problem).

BUT with the Medela (or maybe Xander did this to me, I'm not sure), the tips of my nipples seem to have a couple red... blisters maybe? I'm not sure what they are - I've never had them before.

  26. dojo

    persimmon / 1223 posts

@Adira: Weird. Do the blisters hurt? I had some weird stuff in the first few weeks of BFing kind of like little blisters a couple times but then they went away when I became more accustomed to the whole deal... perhaps it's just a matter of getting used to the pump?

  27. travellingbee

    hostess / papaya / 10219 posts

@Adira: could it be the HFM? Are you working with it?? They quarantined me when I had it! Do you have a fever?

  28. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@dojo: Well... my nipples feel... tender? But I think that's normal immediately after pumping, so... maybe not more than normal? I'm not really sure, haha.

  29. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@travellingbee: They quarantined you????? No, they told me I could definitely go to work since I didn't have a cough and wouldn't be spreading it around! And no, no fever!

  30. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

Ugh, just pumped and only got 3 oz out. Normally at this time I get 5.5 oz. I'm not sure if the Medela PISA is to blame or what! So frustrating. So I'm down over 2 oz for the day. Guess I'm bringing my old pump tomorrow and see if I have better results.

  31. dojo

    persimmon / 1223 posts

@adira: That's such a bummer! Well hopefully your old pump will give you better luck!

  32. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@dojo: Seriously! Though if it gives me the same, at least I can stop blaming the Medela!

  33. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: did you ever start a thread about the pump?

BTW, R had such a blowout this morning that they had to wash her off in the sink at day care. Haha!

  34. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: LOL!!!!! At least she saved it for there! I'm scared that Xander's due for a blowout because he apparently hasn't pooped all day!

And no, I never did make a thread. I have one more experiment to do on my own!

  35. travellingbee

OMG, R was playing on her tummy and she was up on all 4s!! Not quite where she could crawl like that but close!!

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Smurfette: It is crazy how soon these babies are going to be mobile!

@Adira: I hope you start getting more oz's from your new pump.

We've had a good nap day here. 2 hour late morning nap and 1 hour afternoon nap. Hopefully this means a good sleep tonight.

  38. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: OMG!!! She's so close to being mobile!!!!

  39. Smurfette

@ALV91711: those are great naps. We never get naps like that.
@Adira: I want her to sit first. We aren't ready for crawling, nor is the house!!!

@Smurfette: haha, I hear you! We haven't done any baby proofing yet!
