@dojo: so glad the crib went better!!
@ALV91711: I think that I am going to try and see if she will go back to sleep for him tonight. But she hasn't eaten much tonight so not sure how it is going to work.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: It is worth a try. Then maybe you could get a bit more sleep.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
Hysterical crying tonight. I put her down and thought she was asleep, 5 mins later the crying started. I song know that she has ever been louder. She was crying with her eyes shut. Nursing was the only way to get her down now I am afraid to put her back in the crib! Of course I told DH it was ok to go to a friends for dinner on the night she is hysterical

@travellingbee: So glad to hear sleep went well last night!!!! Bummer you're still sick though. I hope you get better soon!!
@Smurfette: @dojo: @ALV91711: I'm now wondering if the whole reaching thing was a fluke. He hasn't repeated it at all!
@dojo: Woohoo!!! So glad the crib went over well last night!!! Hopefully you'll have a good night tonight too!!
@Smurfette: Awww, sorry you're having a rough time getting R down! I had the same issue putting Xander down for his nap (he just refused to take one except on the boob), but he went down for bed okay. I hope you're able to transition her to her crib and she isn't too fussy!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I think my boob time did it. She jut rolled over when I put her down. She was fussy today, and she felt hot to me.
But I took her temp and she was fine. I don't feel any teeth but she has been eating everything today.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: R is so unpredictable! I'm glad she finally went to sleep okay though. Let's hope she lets you get some sleep tonight! It'd be nice if she'd drop that MOTN wake-up already!
We finally tried out the exersaucer today! Xander was a big fan!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: seriously so nice. It is 830 and I am falling asleep.
So glad that he liked it!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I hope you went to bed early! I'm off to feed Xander now and turn in myself. AND it's my turn to sleep in!!! (Which means, after I wake up and feed Xander at 5:00 a.m. and then pump, I can sleep in until 9:00 a.m., when I'll have to feed him again...)
apricot / 338 posts
@Adira: Love his toe nibbles and fun on exersaucer I have two medela pumps one for home (symphony rental) and one for work (PISA) as Im just lazy /heavy to carry back and forth. The PISA is adequate I get maybe 0.5oz less with it. It did take me a few days to get used to PISA and I found that I need to keep suction quite high to get milk out (compared to symphony). I just turn the knob until I hear a slow loud vacuum. I think it says "Rac coon" !! I also got pumping pals but unfortunately they did not make a difference.
@Smurfette: oh my gosh I can't believe shez already doing planks! way to go R!!
@ALV91711: @Adira @Smurfette @dojo: Hope you all get good night sleep!!
J was a bit fussy tonight but DH rocked him and got him to sleep fast. Hoping he sleeps nice long stretch!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@silver1: Thanks for the info!! I THINK I maybe haven't set the suction high enough. I'll definitely have to experiment with that!
Good luck with the sleep tonight!! Xander is apparently wide awake after being fed, but he's not being fussy, so I'm hoping he'll be able to fall back asleep on his own.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
R woke up at 1130, so DH went in there. I hear the screaming on the other side of the house, over the fan that I sleep with on, I usually can't hear unless though the monitor. I went back there and he is changing her diaper and oh my gosh the screaming and moving around. Then nothing would calm her down, she had tears, then when I started nursing her you would think that it had been all day since she ate last I stead of right before bed at 7.
Is there a 5 month regression??? And it is midnight, she is 5 months now. Where is the time going?!?
persimmon / 1223 posts
@smurfette: Oh no! I don't know about a 5 month regression but I know for us Liam's sleep has been pretty crappy for the last few weeks but I attributed it to his daycare cold. Maybe you are on to something... I hope your night gets better!
@adira: He looks like he is loving the exersaucer! We need to get one of those! Enjoy sleeping in!
@silver1: That is great that you have two pumps so you don't have to schlep one back and forth! I am jealous! Hope you get a nice long stretch of sleep!
We are on night two of the crib and so far so good. I kind of missed having him there next to me to cuddle in the middle of the night but I think we all may have slept a little better so I guess it's a good thing.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Adira: The exersaucer looks like fun! Enjoy your sleep in tomorrow. Did he go back to sleep on his own?
@Smurfette: Happy 5 months! Your day sounds like mine. Fussy baby, hardly napped, he was warm but no fever and he nursed like crazy today and now is having a hard time going to sleep. All I want to do is crawl into bed.
@silver1: Hope you have a good stretch of sleep.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yikes!!! I hope the rest of your night went better!! I have no idea if there is a 5 month sleep regression... maybe? And our babies are growing up so fast!!
@dojo: Glad to hear the crib transition is going well! I know when we moved Xander to his crib, I definitely missed having him right by me. I still do sometimes.
@ALV91711: Yep! He was able to fall back asleep on his own!!
So Xander woke up 45 minutes before I usually feed him. Hubs tried to get him to fall back asleep and couldn't and basically insisted that I feed him just to shut him up and so he wouldn't just wake us up again shortly. What do you ladies usually do in this case? Feed early so they won't just wake up again when they are actually hungry? I was able to get him back asleep without feeding him, but of course he woke up 40 minutes later for food.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: the only other thing I can think of is she is learning to crawl, raspberries, laughing, all this week, so maybe that is making her hungry? She is coughing too. She woke up and 5, nursed and back asleep by 520 and she slept till 8!!!! So that extra hour made up for the 1130!
I would have just fed him but R isn't on any kind of schedule so I wouldn't have to worry about messing her up.

Isaac finally rolled tummy to back again today. It has been exactly a month since he did it the first time.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Yay!!!! Go Isaac!!!
Supposedly while I was sleeping in, Xander rolled back to front and front to back SIX times and also made some consonant "ba" sounds! He's so productive when I'm sleeping, haha.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: little stinker said ha Mom I will show you for thinking you can sleep!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Seriously!!! But I also think it's probably because Hubs is so much better at actually teaching him how to do things.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Adira: whoa! Lots of rolling!
@Smurfette: that felt like what was going in over here-- he was learning tons all at once and sleep got crappy!
@ALV91711: yay I!
So question... Are your babies eating every 3 hours? 4? Or something else? I was still feeding L every 2 1/2-3 hours but I've been noticing that he doesn't seem to mind if I forget and we end up going 3-4 hours. Then I read about how The Babywhisperer stuff says by this age they should be able to move to a 4 hour schedule. So I was curious if yours are or not?
pomelo / 5621 posts
@travellingbee: I've notice that Isaac is stretching his nursing sessions to about 2.5-3 hours now, instead of 2 hours. More often it is 3 hours, unless he is tired, then he will nurse sooner.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: she went 4 hours today since we were out running errands and was totally fine. But at day care sometimes she just goes 2.5
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@travellingbee: A eats roughly every 2.5 hours. Sometimes it's more like 1.5, sometimes it's 3.
persimmon / 1223 posts
@travellingbee: Liam eats about every 3 hours give or take but he seems to be fine sometimes if it gets closer to 4 hours. Then again sometimes he seems hungry earlier than 3 hours so it just depends I guess. Most of the time it's 3-4 hours during the day.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@aprk: How is A doing for nights? I hope your getting some longer stretches.
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@ALV91711: crap crap crap. The last week or so he's been averaging 3.5 hours as his longest stretch. I've been sort of testing some different ideas and I think he's just nursing out of habit. I don't want to sleep train at this point, per se, but I think I'm gonna try to work with him to see if we can get some more uninterrupted sleep. This last wake up I let him nurse for 2 minutes then gave him the paci and he's fine. Fingers crossed.
How are you guys doing?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: Xander goes 4 hours after his first morning feed, but every 3 after that. Although I suspect he probably could go longer because he doesn't seem super hungry after 3 hours, but I feed him anyway. I'm scared to mess up the good thing we have going.
That Baby Whisperer is also more used to FF babies which takes longer to digest, so I think it's easier for them to stretch out feeding.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@aprk: Pretty crappy here too. He is still waking up 4 times and nursing 3 of those times. His longest stretch lately is 3 hours. I've started to try rocking him back to sleep without nursing, but that has been unsuccessful.
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@ALV91711: why did our babies not get the sleep is awesome memo?? We go to the ped on Tuesday and I'm curious what the dr says. Not that he can change anything, of course.
apricot / 338 posts
@travellingbee: Mine goes about 3 hours during the day between feeds we don't have a set schedule though. Sometimes he has afternoon nap and then it is 2.5 hours or 4 hours after last feed.
At night he eats around 8:30pm and then 2am and 6:30am.
@Adira: Yay for rolling baby!!!
Something I read on internet is that for BF babies if there is too much fore milk (in situations of oversupply mainly) then they can get hungry earlier. So that also could be reason if LO gets hungry earlier.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: @aprk: R is back to waking up every 4 hours to nurse....
Last night sucked. R was sleeping 7-5, and has slowly been waking up every night 30 mins earlier. Last night she went to sleep at 7, woke up 1055, back asleep at 1115, then up again at 3. I let her fussy and she did for 30 mins. I fell asleep for 20 mins and woke up and she was hysterically crying. I went and got her, and even through nursing you could tell she was still upset. Nursing didn't even put her back to sleep, she was just looking up at me with her big eyes. I changed her diaper and she didn't even cry, then after 20 something minutes I finally got her asleep. I got back in bed at 5, and I was supposed to get up at 515, so I said screw it, my hair can be dirty. Then she woke up at 550.
She didn't poop at all on Sunday and finally did this morning, so I wonder if that was it.
When we had her weight check on the 1st, she had a small ear infection. The pediatrician wrote a prescription for it and said to fill if we think it is bothering her. So I went ahead and filled it last night. I read that ear infections cause more spit up, she keeps grabbing her head right behind her ear, and most of yesterday she wouldn't nurse on the left side, even with me holding her so her ear wasn't pressing down on the boppy.
This just sucks, I have a feeling we are going to have to sleep train all over again. I am exhausted, I got maybe 5 hours total last night, with one 3 hour stretch.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
Also when I told her teacher this morning that she is doing planks and getting up on all 4's, she was like yeah she did that on Thursday. Seriously baby, when does Mommy and Daddy get to see something first? At least the teachers didn't tell me she did it before I saw it. I have years thinking about how much I am missing. I hate having to work.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh man! It sounds like you had such a rough night!!! I'm sorry!!!! I wonder if it's the ear infection that's bothering her so much which is why she keeps waking up! Or maybe she was constipated? Although I thought BF babies didn't really get constipated, so I don't know... I just hope she gets better soon and you can get some sleep!!! Trying to function on such broken up sleep is so hard!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I think it's cruel that your teachers are even telling you that kind of stuff. They should just be like "Oh really??? That's awesome!" and then maybe when you pick her up, they can be "Oh, she did it for us today too!" Telling you that the new stuff you're seeing is old news is just mean.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Well I do appreciate them not telling me Thursday when I picked her up. So they are listening to me with that. I did tell her please don't tell me if she crawls here until I tell you that I saw it.
But on another note, it is 1st day of the new school year. So I got a calendar for the whole year and they have lots of fun stuff scheduled already. I am glad that I am close, so I can go to some of the class parties.

There is a huge consignment sale here this week. I am planning on going Sat when everything is 50%. My Aunt knows the lady that runs it so I had her look for me today. I wanted to get the FP Laugh and Learning Home Playset for Christmas. But she saw this and we decided to get this since My Mom has the home one, older version, at her house. So R is getting her first kitchen for Christmas and Santa only had to spend $8! I can't wait to see what else I find on Sat!

Sorry for the long absence. We went on a little trip with the boys, DH & I got a tummy virus while we were gone, and I've just been MIA since then. I'm going to try to catch up on this thread today, but for now, I'll just try to hit everyone on this page.
@Smurfette: Poor R with her ear infection! I bet that will help her sleep better when that is cleared up. I can't believe she can do planks and get up on all 4s! The boys aren't even close to that, and pretty much show zero interest in crawling ever. They love to stand and stomp and take little pretend steps, so maybe they are planning on skipping crawling?? I'm totally with you and @Adira: on daycare just not telling me if they do something new there. I HATE it when they do that. Just lie to me and tell me they haven't accomplished a bloody thing and then ooh and ahh with me when I tell you they did something that they've apparently been doing at daycare all the time. Blah. As for sleep regressions like you and @dojo: mentioned, we've had the same issues. Our ped said it's really normal at this age and just to re-sleep train, but I don't waaaaant to do it again! Double blah.
@Adira: He is sooo cute in his Excersaucer! Adorbs! And good job on the rolling, buddy!
@travellingbee: We're still on a 3-hour schedule, and they are on formula. I've tried a couple times to stretch it out, but they always get hungry around 3 hours. At this point, I'm still trying to get them to catch up in size, so I'm happy to just keep feeding them every 3 hours, though, the extra time of a 4-hour schedule sounds lovely!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh my gosh, that's so cool! What a find!!!! And lucky R! And also... I haven't even started thinking about Christmas! You're stressing me out.
@Mrs. Blue: Sorry to hear you guys have been sick! Was the trip fun at least? How'd the boys handle it?

LOs' name: Elliot & Finn
Age: 5 months yesterday!
Weight: At our late 4 month appt two weeks ago: E - 14 lbs. 8 oz (16th %-ile); F - 12 lbs. 14 oz. (1st %-ile). They're still peanuts!
Length: E - 25 inches; F - 24 1/2 inches. They were an inch and a half different when they were born, so F is catching up!
Recent milestones: E: Rolls both ways and ALWAYS rolls to sleep on his tummy now. Can stand while holding the couch for a few seconds. F: Rolls tummy to back, but not the other way yet. Can stand while holding onto the couch.
Neither are sitting on their own or showing any interest in crawling. They just want to stand all day long!
Milestone you're most looking forward to: Sitting up unassisted.
How's feeding going: We're exclusively FF, and we won't be introducing solids until 6 months. We're still working on getting them to eat more. The ped wants them to be eating 30 oz a day by 6 months, so we have a ways to go still.
How's sleep going: E is sleeping better now that he is rolling to his tummy, though it has caused me a lot more stress! They both have gone through the 4-month/cold/teething/Lord-knows-what-but-I-wish-it-would-stop regression. Right now they are going to sleep around 7:30 and waking up between 3-5. I think we're going to re-sleep train, but I have to gather the will power & energy to do it again. Sometimes, it's just easier to give them a bottle in the moment then put the effort into sleep training.
What is your favorite trait about your LO?
E is such a little cuddle bug and "flirts" all the time with us. He coos and smiles and bats his eyelashes. He gets the cutest expression when he's accomplished something new - sooo proud of himself. He studies things out and then is happy, happy, happy.
F is my wiggler and is always looking for something fun to try. He is super quick to smile, and he gets an adorable onery expression. I suspect he will keep us on our toes, but also always keep us laughing!
WOHM.
