@Smurfette: Neither do we. And now I'm paying. It is 9:30 and he is still up. I don't get it since he was up from his last nap about 3:30.

@ALV91711: I am sorry! Hopefully you got some decent sleep last night.

@Adira: I think I got used to it since I have been pumping from week 2 or so. LO doesn't have a good latch so had to pump those first few weeks to keep my supply.
@Smurfette: Wow you have got a little crawler in making Ya I would totally want J to sit first and then crawl.
@sheskrafty: Sorry hope your LO feels better soon.
@ALV91711: Hope your little guy finally fell asleep.

@silver1: I have one more experiment to do with the pump and I'm HOPING that works. Otherwise, I'm opening a thread to the rest of the Bees to pray for some help, haha. I've heard so many good things about the Medela PISA, it boggles the mind that it wouldn't work as well as my old POS! Although maybe my old one is better than I realize... haha.

@ALV91711: Ugh, sorry about your sleep situation! I hope you eventually got some!

@silver1: Is it bad that I am hoping it was a one time fluke. So not ready for crawling yet.

He finally went to sleep about 10:15. He woke up an hour later but put himsel back to sleep. He then got up just after 1, then 4:15 to nurse and now again at 6:50. I'm hoping when he is done he will sleep a bit more. But overall a good night.

@ALV91711: Glad to hear your night didn't end up terrible, considering how late he stayed up!!!

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@ALV91711: That is awesome, he put himself back to sleep. Now he would do that everytime!

So day care had a teacher work day today. My sister watched R this morning since DH had a dentist appointment. I fed her before I left, but my sister texted me and said she finished 5 ozs and was sucking hard on her finger. So I told her to warm up 2 ozs and see what she would drink. She guzzled it down in no time, but then had a big spit up. DH said the next bottle, she ate a little over 6ozs. Not sure if he warmed up that much to begin with or he warmed up more. She didn't spit up this time. The bottles were about 2 1/2 hours apart.

    What is going on????

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Smurfette: that is a lot of milk! I hope it was just a one time thing.

@Adira: And he slept until 9, so that was nice. But I'd rather he went to bed earlier.

  10. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@ALV91711: That is too much, right?? Day care said other babies her age do drink 6 ozs...but I don't know.

  11. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Do you know if your sister did paced-feedings? I'm guessing she may have guzzled down those 5oz too quickly and didn't realize she was full, and then after she got the 2oz, her stomach revolted because it was too much and it all (or most) came back up. Which would explain why she would've been pretty hungry later, if most of what she ate with your sister didn't stay down.

    Does that make sense?

  12. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I would be wary of feeding her too much too quickly - I don't know what your sister or husband is doing, so maybe they are doing paced feedings and this isn't the case, but if she eats too much, she'll end up stretching out her stomach, and then it will take MORE for her to realize she's full and you'll end up having to feed her more.

I suspect that's probably what happens with babies that take more than 5oz bottles all the time. Though this is totally just my opinion, so feel free to ignore me!

Disclaimer: my opinion about the 5oz bottles is just for BM - I know formula babies tend to need more as they get older!

  13. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Yeah probably. I don't know how much time was between the feedings. It would have taken at least 5 mins or so to heat the bottle since it was in the fridge. She isn't a Mom so doesn't have a ton of experience other then babysitting multiple cousins and nephews over the years.

Her pediatrician did say at her 4 month appointment she should be eating 5-6ozs each feeding. Maybe she needs 6ozs.

  14. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I wonder if she does need the 6 ozs cause at day care she gets 5ozs but they are having to feed her every 2.5 hours verses 3 at home. This is so confusing!!!

and I worry about stretching her tummy out too

  15. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Oh, okay! I didn't realize that some babies need more than 5oz each feeding! Although I know Xander's getting more in his morning feeding since when I wasn't there over the weekend, I'd pump about 10oz in the morning, and when I feed him I only pump around 3oz - so he must be getting at least 7oz in that first feeding!

That would be crazy though if she ate 6oz bottles every 3 hours - that seems like a lot! Especially if you think that some babies ONLY eat 24oz in a day, so R would be getting all that just at daycare PLUS nursing morning and night! I don't know though!

  16. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I know it sounds like so much to me. 24ozs, plus 2-3 nursing sessions, depending on when/how she wakes up in the middle of the night.

  17. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Maybe you could go see an LC and do a weighted feed? If she's getting less than 5-6oz from you and is able to go 3 hours just fine, then I would think she should be able to do the same at daycare. That's my reasoning for not increasing Xander's bottle size!

I also wonder if maybe the speed at which they are drinking is affecting their hunger. My daycare has also told me Xander's hungry after 2.5 hours. I'm wondering if it's because they finish a bottle in about 5 minutes, as opposed to the 20 (or whatever) from the breast. If they finish eating 20 minutes after they start, they're going about 2.5 hours BETWEEN one feed end to the start of the next. And that would explain why they get hungry sooner if they drink a bottle quickly. But that's just my theory - I have no idea if it matters or not.

  18. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I've also heard that breastfed babies (and I have nooooooo idea if this is true or not) tend to want more cuddle-time and desire to be held more, so it's possible R is just getting fussy because she wants some attention (this is my theory for Xander too) and they just think she's hungry because they give her a bottle (while holding her) and she's content. So they assume she must've been hungry. And since that seems to keep working, they keep doing it.

  19. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I don't know any LC. I guess I could look and see if I can find one open on a Saturday.

That is a good theory, she does nurse for 15-20 mins, except in the morning, that is always less. Maybe I can ask day care how long she takes to finish a bottle and see if they can do half, take a 5 min break and then finish the rest.......

  20. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I know there's been times with Xander when I'm home that he'll be playing on his activity mat and he'll get fussy and start crying about 30 minutes before I think he's hungry, but when I pick him up and cuddle him, he seems totally happy, so I'm pretty sure he just wanted attention - not food! But I bet with daycare, the babies get fussy, they warm up a bottle, and start feeding them, without really trying a ton of other things (especially if it's CLOSE to when they're supposed to eat anyway). And it's probably hard to give a ton of individual attention to the babies because there are more babies than teachers, so they just do what works!

  21. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: she is an attention hog

  22. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Both the LCs I've visited worked at hospitals. So you could call the hospital you gave birth at (or even another local hospital) and see if they have an LC you could meet with. I don't know if they'll take you on a Saturday though - the ones I've met with have normal hours. But maybe they could direct you somewhere else. There's a store in my town that also does mommy groups that has an LC - I suspect she'd be available on a Saturday, so maybe there's something like that you can find.

Definitely ask daycare how long it takes to give her a bottle! If it's under 10 minutes, it MIGHT be causing a problem, though I don't really know. And you could ask them to try to do paced feedings or stretch the feeding out to last 15 minutes. If they start doing that and she suddenly isn't hungry as often, I'm guessing the time to eat it is the problem!

  23. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: haha, so maybe she just wants attention! And they can't really give her one-on-one time for 30 minutes and THEN feed her because there are other babies that need attention too!

  24. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

YAY!!!!! I finally pumped my normal amount for the day with my normal pumping sessions!!!!

Although that probably means the Medela WAS the reason I didn't have enough yesterday... but I'm just glad to see my supply isn't totally messed up!

  25. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I just don't understand why a brand new pump isn't working for you?!?!

  26. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Maybe I'm not totally relaxing because I'm worried about pumping enough. I should try it on a Friday when I'm just going to freeze whatever I pump and it's less crucial I meet my quota. Maybe then I can just relax and let it do its thing.

@travellingbee: @Smurfette: Baby laughs are the best!

Poor little guy was a bit constipated today I think. He was grumpy until he finally pooped and now he is his happy self. I think this is because last night I mixed his cereal with some pre made formula instead of breast milk.

@Adira: Good that you got your normal amount today. Pumping is stressful, I've started to pump every day and some days I hardly get any and others I get so much.

So I THINK that Xander is reaching with intent now! When I came in to get him this morning, he seemed sooooo excited to see me and he put both arms out to me. Then when I put him down on the changing table to change his diaper, he whimpered and put both arms out to me again! Gahhh, I love him so much!!!!

    @Adira: love feet nibbles!! Adorable!

Lukas only woke once last night! He slept from 7-200, and 230-7:00!!!! So excited!!!

    ETA: I'm still sick, however!

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: aww, I can't wait for that to happen. So sweet! I bet those feet taste good!!

@travellingbee: I am jealous! We got up twice last night. Sorry you aren't feeling better. You start work on Monday, right?

So I don't know what to do about R's night wakings. I don't think she needs to eat but it seems the only way to get her back to sleep.

@smurfette: Look at that plank! haha such a strong girl - so cute!

@adira: That is so sweet that he is reaching for you! I love the toe nibbles!

@travellingbee: Hope you feel better soon - being sick is the worst! So glad you had a good night for sleep!

We tried the crib again last night (after it did not go well last week I just went back to having him in the cosleeper all week while DH was out of town). It went so much better this time - I think he must of been in some sort of growth or developmental spurt last week because he's doing a lot of new things this week. DH even said he seems different after not seeing him for a few days. Anyway we did our normal bedtime routine and I put him in his crib after nursing a little after 7. He played a little bit with his hands and then fell asleep at about 7:30. Woke up briefly at around 8:15 but DH went upstairs and held him for a few minutes and he went back to sleep and slept until 2:45!!! I fed him and he was back to sleep by 3:10. Slept until 6:30 when we went in he was all smiles. If this can just be our new normal I would be so happy!!!

@Adira: love the toe nibbling! That is so awesome he is reaching for you, I'm looking forward to that.

@travellingbee: Hope he keeps up the good sleep. Sorry to hear your still sick, but hopefully a couple nights of good sleep will help.

@Smurfette: While your hubby is home could he try going to her when she wakes and get her back to sleep? Then maybe she will stop waking up if she realizes she isn't being fed.

@dojo: Sounds like a great night. Hopefully he will continue to sleep good in his crib.

Nothing new here, still back at not sleeping good. I think once DH is back and he can get Isaac and put him back to sleep he won't wake up so much. I think that with me going to him, he is insisting on nursing to go back to sleep. And I'm just too tired in the night to try anything else.
