March Mamas & Babies: 1/3 Done!

@Smurfette: Awww! Do babies get bad dreams?? So sad!

@ALV91711: He's waking up just before his 9:00 p.m. feed. The first night, he woke up right at 9:00 and last night he woke up at 8:35. Noooo clue what's up.

@ALV91711: the shots were pretty easy, and he only had one episode of crankiness/sadness. This morning though his legs seem so sore. He doesn't want to bend them at all :(. How was sleep for you last night? A went down at 7, screaming at 8, down at 8:30, up at midnight and 5 am to eat. Up at 7, but I think he's going back down. Not too bad!

@aprk: this has been the worst night ever after starting out good. Asleep in bed at 9, woke at 11 to nurse. Then woke at 2:30 to nurse, which was pretty good. It is now 4:30 and he won't go back to sleep. He is dry and doesn't want to nurse more. He did fall asleep only to wake up as soon as I put him down.

I think I'll be canceling our trip. I'm not going anywhere on a couple hours sleep.

@Adira: I guess at least he is waking up when you normally feed him. But screaming is no good

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@aprk: Awww, A's a little peanut! And I friggin HATE the percentile numbers!!! People make so many judgements based on those numbers and not on how the baby actually is! Everyone's always telling me that Xander's soooo big, but when they hear he's in the 18th percentile, they change their tune and is all "He's so small... feed him more!" WTF!

@Smurfette: Oh no!!!! Sorry to hear about R spitting up a bunch!!! I hope she feels better soon! And bummer about the clogged duct - you're not having great luck with those.

@shopaholic: Sorry to hear that K was so squirmy!!! Xander can get like that too, but he's not good at rolling, so I can put him on the floor and he'll be good. He just wiggles and kicks his legs a lot, but doesn't go anywhere!

@ALV91711: Good luck on your trip!!! I'm sure you and Isaac will have a blast!

@dojo: It seems to me that daycares always just assume fussy baby = hungry! UNLESS they literally just ask, then they might not make that assumption! 20oz should be PLENTY!!! Don't feel pressured into sending more if you think he should be good! But that sucks that you don't interact with the daycare providers much - I can never get any information out of Hubs, so I'm glad I handle pick-up. It would be so hard if he was the only one dealing with them!

  5. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: Yeah, it's really bizarre! And then once I nurse him and put him back to bed, he's good for the night! So I have no idea what's going on with him. I would think that if it was teething, it would bother him more than just then? I don't know...

  6. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@aprk: R was only 12.8lbs and 24.58 at her 4 months appointment. Then at her weight check at 4 months 3 weeks, she weighted 13.1lbs.
@ALV91711: I am sorry you had a bad night and have to cancel your trip.
@dojo: How many bottles is that 20ozs? I am now sending 4 6oz bottles cause they kept saying she seemed hungry still after the 5 ozs and was eating sooner. Now she is going 3 hours between, bottles, for the most part. For a tiny thing R is turning into a porker!
@Adira: This is seriously the worse one yet. She woke up at 230 to eat, so luckily she was hungry before we left for day care. But it is still there. I keep massaging in. I had to take Advil last night cause it hurt so bad.
How did Xander do the rest of the night?

  7. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: Gahh, just saw you're probably canceling your trip! What a bummer!!!

@Smurfette: Do you sleep on your stomach at all? I wonder why you keep getting these! So annoying!!!

And Xander did well after his 8:35 scream-fest! He woke up briefly at 3:20 sort of whimpering, but Hubs gave him his pacifier and he fell back to sleep. Then he woke up at 5:20 ready to eat and in a good mood. So noooooo idea what was with the screaming, but at least he seemed fine this morning!

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I do sleep on my stomach. That is why I hardly slept during pregnancy, I can't get comfy on my side or back. I think it is cause I try and nurse her in the AM and she doesn't empty my boob cause she isn't hungry. Then it is another couple hours before I pump. At least I think that is what happened yesterday.

  9. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I suspect sleeping on your stomach probably isn't helping you, haha. Hmm... not sure what to do about the fact she isn't emptying you. I always pump after I nurse in the morning because Xander usually empties one boob, but not the other. Not sure if you have time to do that or not though...

  10. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I usually feed her right before we need to go. So I don't have time to get all my pump parts out, already packed up, and then pump for 20 mins. I think that I am just not going to try and nurse her unless she was up at 230 or earlier. 330, she is usually good till day care and can have a first bottle.

  11. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: If you decide to forgo nursing her - will you have time to pump instead? Or can you pump first thing when you get to work? I know what you mean though - it's a pain pumping in the morning before I go because I have to pump, then wash and dry my pump parts and pack everything up. It takes so much extra time!

  12. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I could pump when I am getting ready if she is still asleep. But if she wakes up then what do I do? I would have to stop cause no one else is home to go and get her. I usually pump around 845-900 at work.

  13. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: That is good that he stays down for the night.

So finally almost 2.5 hours later and Isaac was asleep. It took me a while and I was falling asleep. Then just under an hour of him sleeping he wakes up crying to nurse. Really buddy?! You couldn't of nursed again when you were awake? He has never had a night like this even as a newborn. As much as he gets up to nurse he is always right back to sleep.

  14. aprk

    pomegranate / 3452 posts

    @ALV91711: oh no

@Adira: yeah I agree. It's so silly to try and go by the numbers. Our babies are fine!

  15. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, I don't have a ton of advice. Xander's the easy baby, so even when he's awake, we can just leave him in his crib and he'll just play with his feet. I hope your clog clears up soon!

@ALV91711: Awww, poor Isaac! And poor Mama!!! I hope sleep gets better for you guys soon!

@aprk: Yeah, I wish I hadn't told Hubs the percentiles at all. He's all panicked that Xander's under weight just because of the number!

@Smurfette: @Adira: Thanks! Yeah, he sits very well now. He can even play with toys while sitting. He's quite sturdy. We had him sitting there for about 5 minutes while we took pictures.
I go back to work tomorrow. Sob.

And sorry to hear you're going back to work tomorrow. Hopefully it won't be too bad!

I talked to the nurse this morning and he thinks that it could the medicine. The pharmacy didn't tell us to give it to her on a full stomach. The past two mornings she has had an empty stomach. I forgot to give it to her this morning, so I will give it tonight after she eats and see if that helps. Course if she spits up a ton again at day care then I will know it isn't the medicine.

  24. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yikes! Let's hope it IS the medicine and giving it to her on a full stomach helps!!! Good luck today!

@travellingbee: What a cutie! I also just love his hair - I wish Liam had more hair. That is hilarious that your DH put product in it. What a stylish little dude. Hope that your return to work goes smoothly tomorrow!

@smurfette: I tried doing five 4oz bottles today. I have sent 6oz in the past so if what we sent today doesn't help maybe I'll try sending 6oz bottles.

@adira: uuhhhhggg yes - and I was trying to explain this to DH that I think he is just teething and whenever he is cranky they think he is hungry and he said that they probably know what they're talking about better than I do. I got really mad and said I was pretty sure I know my son a little better than daycare. So frustrating. He apologized later but it made me so mad.

  26. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@dojo: My husband basically said the same thing to me!!!! Daycare (and SMIL) were telling me he gets hungry and needs more in his bottle, and Hubs was like "You're just being stubborn and not listening to any of the people that actually feed him!" I wanted to kill him!!!

  27. dojo

    persimmon / 1223 posts

@adira: I know!!! I told him he was being an idiot telling me that they know my son better than I do. I feed him on the weekend and have not noticed him being super hungry... and neither my mother or ML have said anything about him needing more bottles...

@travellingbee: Eee!!! SOOO adorable! And sitting up unassisted!

So.... last night was INTERESTING. I woke up to get her probably 5-6 times! She kept rolling into the side of the crib! She even managed to scoot herself up and down the length of the crib into the corners! So glad I put up the mesh bumper. One time, she was totally face down and I couldn't rest easy, so I went in and rolled her back. Checked another time and she had breathing room between her and the bumper. She kept setting off the Angel Care beeps (which is not the full on alarm, but sporadic beeps). I have to change the sensitivity tonight!

We also tried out the travel high chair for the first time today for DH's birthday lunch. She looks like a big girl - holding her head up! You can finally see neck! lol! I'll come back and post pics from my phone!

Her sleeping and in the high chair...

  31. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@shopaholic: Sounds like K is sleeping like R. I gave up rolling her back on her back. She just rolls right back. She scoots herself into corners all the time. If she pressed up against the wood, I will move her once she is asleep. I need to put our breathable bumpers on cause I have found her with an arm between the slants before.

I ordered the high chair. I can't wait to try it out this weekend!

  32. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

R just woke up screaming! I don't know what happened. DH came to see if she was hungry and it took both of us to change her diaper. We thought maybe she popped, no, and I tried just rocking her to sleep. But she just wouldn't calm down. So I am nursing her now. She keeps putting her hand near her ear:( poor thing

  33. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@travellingbee: Happy 5 months! He is sitting up so good. I can sit Isaac up, but he folds himself in half and doesn't really sit straight. That is cute that your DH puts product in his hair.

@Smurfette: Poor girl, hope she is feeling better.

@shopaholic: Such a big girl in the high chair.

My mom is some sort of saint. She came home from work at 10am today and Isaac had just finished nursing, so she sent me to bed until Isaac was ready to nurse again and then sent me to bed again and made me lunch when I did get up. Then after I was up I asked my mom a couple things that I'd noticed today, like pulling his ear and not nursing laying on his right side. So I took him to the walk in clinic and sure enough he has an ear infection. So we got some antibiotics and gave that to him along with Tylenol before bed. Hopefully he will get a better sleep tonight. He only napped for about an hour today after last night.

  34. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@ALV91711: So glad that your Mom came home and you got some rest. Sorry I has an ear infection. How did he sleep last night?

So after R's freak out last night, she slept all night. Didn't wake up till a little before 6. Of course it was a morning I had to wake up at 515 since I had to wash my hair.

She had copper colored poop this morning when her teacher was changing her right when we got to school. It smelled too. We just changed her before we left. Waiting for the doctor's to open. Hoping it is a reaction to the antibiotics.

  35. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Awww, sorry to hear R's been spitting up so much! Poor baby!

@shopaholic: OMG, look at her against that bumper!!! Her and Xander should hang out. She can mash her head into a bumper and Xander will try to smother himself with a blanket. Babies! And she looks ADORABLE in that high chair! So cute!

@Smurfette: She must've woke up screaming for Xander since he didn't last night! Poor baby!

@ALV91711: So sweet of your mom to come help you!!!! And poor little guy - ear infections suck! Hopefully now that he's on antibiotics, he'll start feeling better!!! I keep wondering if Xander might have an ear infection because he keeps pulling at his ears, but he doesn't have a problem laying on either side, so I think it might just be part of him teething.

@Smurfette: What color is her poop normally? I feel like Xander's is often that copper color (and stinky), so that would seem normal to me!

  36. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: It is usually a yellow/green. It was a pretty dark copper. It wasn't bloody so that makes me feel better. Day care said they would call me if she has another poop like that.

  37. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

The over the phone advice nurse said that it is totally normal. That antibiotic is known for changing the color of the poop. Good! Once less thing I have to worry about what is going on with her.

  38. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I feel like Xander's poop is always such random colors, but it's often a dark orange, and then sometimes it's like neon green! So I probably wouldn't notice if a medication changed the color unless it was something totally different! But I'm glad to hear that it's normal and you don't have one more thing to worry about!

@shopaholic: I'm bakingem on IG. The boys are just like her about being really intolerant of sitting because they love to stand so much. Also, they cannot sit up on their own, which I just don't get. It seems like it would be more physically challenging to stand, but I guess not!

@aprk: That's about what my big guy weighed. I try to just ignore the actual percentile and just make sure they are still on their growth curve.
