LO's age: 6 months
What solid readiness signs is your LO showing: I think he has lost most of the tongue thrust reflex, sitting up assisted and holding his head up unassisted and showing some interest in what we are eating.
When you did/plan on starting solids: This weekend
What you are starting with: Probably going to just go ahead and start with organic rice cereal then try a veggie a few days later.
Baby led weaning, purees, or some hybrid: I think we will start with purees and then maybe try out some baby led weaning once we start to get the hang of things so probably a hybrid.
How often do you/will you feed solids: Our plan is to start over the weekend then try one meal a day at 'dinner time' then just go from there...
If you already are doing solids, what's your schedule with bottles/BFing and solids?: n/a
Most excited about: Watching his reaction to new tastes and textures - I plan to get lots of pictures
Least excited about/most scared of: smelly poop and cleaning our cloth diapers, constipation and/or tummy issues and possible allergic reactions.

@travellingbee: Gahhh!!! My worst nightmare is forgetting pump parts!!! I would just go home for the day and give up on work! LOL! I hope you're able to figure something out!

Ah! I wrote this whole post yesterday and I guess my computer froze before I could submit it. Here goes round 2:
LO's age: 5 1/2 months.
What solid readiness signs is your LO showing: I don't necessarily think she IS ready yet. She doesn't sit up unassisted yet, and still pushes her tongue around when I'm looking for her teeth. She has been increasingly interested in watching the food go from plate to my mouth, but usually only if she's sitting on my lap.
When you did/plan on starting solids: We get back from our trip right before she turns 6 months. So on 6 months or the weekend after.
What you are starting with: I'm hoping to forgo cereals entirely, but if the ped really recommends, I'll do oatmeal. Planning to start with veggies (avocado and green beans) and follow the green-yellow-orange-red spectrum as I introduce things.
Baby led weaning, purees, or some hybrid: I'm not a an of mess and it is hard enough for me to maintain the house and get a shower every other day for myself, so purees to start, for sure. I'll probably do a hybrid and introduce some BLW/finger foods as we both get more confident with her eating skills.
How often do you/will you feed solids: Our plan is to start over the weekend then try one meal a day in the daytime and go from there. DH rarely gets home before 9pm, so I can't really wait for him to feed her.
If you already are doing solids, what's your schedule with bottles/BFing and solids?: N/A
Most excited about: Is it sad I'm not? At least not yet. Probably if she's enjoying it, I'll be excited to be raising another foodie! DH really could care less about food, so it'd be fun i there were another foodie in the family!
Least excited about/most scared of: All this: smelly, paste-y poop, constipation and/or tummy issues and possible allergic reactions. My baby growing up so fast.
Other plans, thoughts, etc.: Wondering how much I should be prepping and freezing in batches at once. Ideally, I'd like everything to come organic from the Farmer's Market, but it's been impossible to get to since I've had K. So my goal is to make it there once a month. I'm also scared and not sure about how to introduce meat & proteins when we get to that junction.
@Smurfette: OMG! K's teeth are starting to poke through too! I've seen white pinhead dots on her lower gums since probably ~ 4 months. With more and more pindots showing. But yesterday I could feel a few of them and they are SHARP! Have you tried anything yet? I haven't tried any of the Tylenol, Camilia, or Hyland's - though I bought ALL of them to have just in case!
@travellingbee: Wow! L got his first tooth or teeth? Pics! I've been googling images for the past month and I can't see that bubble/gum swelling on K - but just white pindots that are now really sharp! Poor babies! Hopefully L feels better now that it's broken through!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: I gave her some Tylenol this morning cause she was super fussy. Going to give her some Hyland's tonight before bed. Hopefully it will help her sleep more then a 3 hour stretch. I was shocked at how sharp it felt. I really didn't know she was teething, cause I was waiting for drool, and she hasn't been drooling much at all the last couple weeks.

LO's age: 5 1/2 months.
What solid readiness signs is your LO showing: He sits up unassisted and sits in his highchair when we eat. He watches us intently and tries to grab everything. Not sure about the tongue thing or how to check.
When you did/plan on starting solids: We are going to start over Labor Day weekend.
What you are starting with: Avocado, banana, sweet potato And I have some pear pouches
Baby led weaning, purees, or some hybrid: . Definitely a hybrid. I want to start with mushy foods that he can grab at himself, as I know my son and he ALWAYS wants to do it himself, ALREADY!
How often do you/will you feed solids: No clue. Start with dinner for a while then add lunch at daycare?
Most excited about: His reactions-- I know he is going to love it. He is already ready, I can tell. But I want to wait until closer to 6 months.
Least excited about/most scared of: Choking, poop/constipation, allergic reactions, mess, another thing to think about!
Other plans, thoughts, etc.: Haven't thought too far ahead. Just one thing at a time.

@Smurfette: @dojo: @Adira: My husband who is the sweetest man on the planet brought them to me. I was worried now I won't be able to get enough for him for tomorrow (although I do have a stash frozen but I hate to use it!) but I got 8 ounces off that one pump because I waited so long! So I'm sure I can get another 2 ounces later. (I only have been sending in two 5 oz bottles and he isn't even finishing that! But he's only there from 8ish to 4 and I have been feeding right before and when I pick him up.)
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: Yay!!! Glad your husband brought them to you!!! And I'm jealous you only have to send in 10oz to daycare! I'm having to pump after work yesterday and today to get my 15oz because of the stomach bug I had.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: I thought it was food poisoning, but my husband had it the next day, so I'm guessing it must've been something else!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
R woke up at 530 this morning, took a 15-20 catnap on the way to day care, dropped her off at 715. Then she didn't take a nap till 315!!!! Everytime they put her in the crib she would cry hysterically. The only way they got her to nap was the swing and it was out of batteries so one teacher sat there for 10 mins and swung it till she fell asleep. She slept for 50 mins. Then she took a 10 min nap on the way home.
Any ideas on how to get her to nap again? She was doing so great with napping in the crib there.

@shopaholic: ok I finally got a picture. The tooth isn't up very far to see but you can definitely feel it. His bubble split yesterday and today you could feel the actual tooth.. He had white pinpoints in several spots since 2 months but his are calcium deposits(?) not teeth.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Adira: sorry to hear it!
@Smurfette: I don't know because L always naps in the swing at day care. But I can say his naps and sleep have been worse again the last week or two. Teething issues maybe...
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Adira: Hope your both feeling better.
@travellingbee: That is awesome that your husband brought them to you. I can't believe a tooth had popped through already.
@Smurfette: Sorry the naps are so bad. Has she been extra cranky because if it? I can't believe she has a tooth too.
Good luck to everyone who is starting solids!
Teeth, food, these babies are growing up fast!

@travellingbee: OMG, I LOVE that picture of your LO!!!! Even though he doesn't look too happy, that picture is ADORABLE!!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: Yes! I can tell she is exhausted, so between that and teething, she is a mess. Nothing seems to make her happy for more then 5 mins at a time.

Im gone for a day and so much to catch up!!
@Adira: Hope you are feeling better.
@travellingbee: thatz a very informative picture now I know what to look for except the crying!
LO's age: 5 months. Stupid question. how do you calculate months? is it every 4 weeks or the day of his bday each month? I thought I saw a post where LO is 23 weeks and 5.5 month but if I go by bday then 23 weeks is just a week over 5 months Im confused!
What solid readiness signs is your LO showing: He watches intently what i eat and keeps smacking his lips and sticking his tongue.out. I feel bad so Ive tried to avoid eating in front of him. Not sure if he as tongue reflex or not
When you did/plan on starting solids: 6 mo
What you are starting with: Probably going to start with fruit puree likely banana and then cereal or mashed food.
Baby led weaning, purees, or some hybrid: Start with purees and go from there
How often do you/will you feed solids: Start once a day at lunch (my mom will be helping first few days) and if timings go well then transition to dinner time.
If you already are doing solids, what's your schedule with bottles/BFing and solids?: n/a
Most excited about: Can't wait to see his reaction with first taste!
Least excited about/most scared of: yup poop !!
The past two days have been exhausting and then today at work I had clog in right boob and in afternoon I leaked all over my shirt. I was feeling wet and icky so came home early. Thankfully my shirt was a dark color so no one at work noticed (I hope so) and on way back taking public transit I was trying to hide with purse , pretend everything was normal! I pumped/leaked more Im sure it must have been a few ounces lost ugh. So at least the clog is gone now and stay that way for tomorrow.

@silver1: I go by the date she was born. I couldn't you how many weeks she is. Clogged ducts suck!!
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@silver1: Oh no! Glad it's out though!
So, in other news... We randomly decided to let L try peas tonight. We were eating them and I said, well, lets see if he likes peas! I blended them with breastmilk. He was curious. Made crazy faces like he hated it then opened up for more. He did scare me with a choking/coughing episode. DH swept his mouth and he was ok. Phew. Idk if I'm ready for this.
Annnnd he won't sleep! Has woken every few minutes. I think we're in for a long night.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Adira: yeah he wasn't very happy with me trying to take his picture. He hates it when I mess with his mouth. Lol.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: fun!! Scary though. I am not sure I am ready either. R sleep for almost 3 hours but it was very restless. Changed her diaper, gave her Tylenol and now hoping nursing will put her back to sleep. So I think I am in for a long night with you.
bananas / 9973 posts
@Smurfette: Good luck tonight!
@travellingbee: Ah!!! Precious pic! Yeah, hers looks nothing like that. So maybe she's getting more/has a lot of calcium deposits? Do those hurt? I will try to get a pic! What a sweet hubby! And that really DOES sound like he's ready to try solids! Hope you got a pic of him trying the peas!
@silver1: I calculate her months by her birthday. So she is 5.5 months and 24 weeks. Sucks about your shirt!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@silver1: I calculate months by his birthday. I don't remember how many weeks he is unless I look at the calendar where I have it written down. Glad the clog is gone.
@travellingbee: That is awesome you tried out peas. I'm so scared of choking. Isaac makes a yucky face every night at the first bite or two, then when he realizes what it is he usually gobbles it up.
I'm planning on getting avocado and trying that this weekend. I'm excited but nervous and hoping I don't chicken out and not do it!
pomelo / 5621 posts
I forgot to say that I let Isaac try apple today. I was eating one and he couldn't take his eyes off of it, so I let him suck on it for a couple minutes and he loved it. He didn't try to bite off any pieces or anything, just enjoyed sucking the juices.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@silver1: I calculate it based on the date, not how many weeks he is. But I think it depends on when they were born. Since February is a short month and Xander was born in February, 23 weeks was almost 5.5 months for us. He'll turn 6 months just shy of 26 weeks.
@travellingbee: OMG, I'm so scared of choking!!!! Can I just not feed him until he's older...?

@Mrs. High Heels: By the way, happy belated 6 months to J!!! It was yesterday, right?? I'm soooooo looking forward to your 6 month update on the blog!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@Adira: Aww thank you!!! I can't believe our babies are 6 MONTHS. In a few more months they'll be moving up a storm and we'll be struggling to keep up!
@silver1: I calculate it both ways! I use the date he was born to do months (he was born on 2/22... so 3/22 is one month, 4/22 is two months, etc). Then I use the DAY he was born to do weeks. He was born on a Friday... so every Friday is a new week. Months and weeks don't always coincide because some months are longer or shorter than others. Like some months have 5 weeks.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: That'll actually be good for my weight loss I think, haha. I need an active baby to chase after!

@Adira: @Mrs. High Heels: Active babies are 100% of my lose-the-baby-weight plan.

I'm pooped today, Isaac got up every 2 hours last night. He was asleep at 8:30 and the first time he was up was 10:10. And both his naps have been 45min. Hopefully the next one is better.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: I am sorry!!! Just think another week and you will be home!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
We gave R a little rice cereal tonight. I think that she seemed to like eating but wasn't really into in. After a couple spoon fulls she didn't want anymore. But it was super thin, so she was probably confused why the milk was in a spoon and not as hot as her bottles are.
She took a 2 hr 40min nap this morning at day care. But she woke up at 1130 and then didn't nap again till in the car at 5 and it was only 20 mins. But she was much happier tonight. Fingers crossed for a good night.
What sippy/straw cup is everyone going to try first?
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: Two weeks tomorrow! That is awesome that you tried the cereal. I'm glad she had a good morning nap, hopefully tonight will be good.
I think I've decided that tonight I'm going to sleep on the couch. That way with every little peep Isaac won't wake me up, but I will be able to hear him if he cries. I'm not 100% decided though.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: sleep on the couch! Anything to help you get a little more sleep.
R woke up after 1hr 45 mins:( DH got her to sleep and held her for a while after and she woke up as soon as he put her in the crib. Quiet again so maybe he got her back asleep.
I Hate teeth!!

Thanks ladies so J is 5.2 months today
@Adira: @Mrs. High Heels: ya that makes sense feb being a short month.
@Mrs. High Heels: Happy belated bday to J!!
@travellingbee: Glad he decided to like the peas. I had never really thought about choking that must have been scary! hoping next time he becomes a peas eating champ!! and you have better sleep tonite.
@ALV91711: I am sorry hopefully tonight sleep is better. Thatz great he liked apple and Good luck with avocado!
@Smurfette: Hopefully R is full with cereal and sleeps longer tonite. I am not sure I want to go with straw cup mainly because of cleaning. I am eyeing the Nuk sippy cup has some good reviews on amazon,
bananas / 9973 posts
@ALV91711: That's cool! I've let K "taste" watermelon a couple of times, but nothing besides kind of licking happened. Sorry to hear about Isaac's rough night!
@Mrs. High Heels: Happy 6 Months to J! He is so adorable!
@Adira: That's a great plan! And though I lost all the baby weight + a little, some of it has started to creep back on. So I think chasing a LO is a good workout! I'm also looking forward to cooler weather once K is over 6 months. I'm going to get a BOB and hopefully get out for jog/walks more often!
@Smurfette: Hehe! Smart girl! She's like WTF is this? Or at least that's what I think K will think! lol! I've already ordered and received the Zoli sippy cup as part of all her solids stuff. Glad to read last night that a lot of people introduced it at 6 months. Though seems to take a couple of months before they get used to it. I'm hoping she'll take some BM that way!
So I guess K doesn't have any teeth coming out yet? I looked and looked, but couldn't see a bubble thing. Just a bunch of white dots. Fine by me! Hoping she won't get teeth till 9 months!
