Lukas is a different baby since his tooth came through. And two good nights of sleep (knock on wood). Sigh of relief until the next tooth!
@aprk: omg, crawling?!?!
@Smurfette: she is so cute!!
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@travellingbee: not well, or quickly, but he can get anywhere he needs to be!

@aprk: Aww, hopefully tonight is better! Teething is going ok. She has been in a good mood all day. Drooling a ton so maybe the 2nd bottom is going to make its appearance soon. It looks like it is.
@travellingbee: I am jealous! We are still getting up
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Smurfette: we are still getting up too but once or twice not four or five times
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: we got up three last night. Luckily we only had to nurse twice. I made up get up at 530 and get her back asleep
pomelo / 5621 posts
@travellingbee: That is awesome that you have got a couple good nights sleep. Hopefully the next tooth waits a bit.
@aprk: I can't believe he is mobile. I hope that his sleep starts to get better soon.
@Adira: Did you try any food this weekend?
@Smurfette: She is so cute in her high chair. Looks like she liked the cereal.
Last night Isaac got up every couple hours. And he went to bed late. Today his naps have been horrible. Maybe tonight will be better.
So I never made it to the store the other day to get avocado's, so he hasn't tried that yet. Two nights ago I steamed an apple from the tree, he tried that for two nights and didn't like it. Even mixed with rice cereal. Today I steamed carrot from the garden and mixed it with some breast milk. He ate it with oatmeal and loved it.
I got him sippy cups today. I put a bit of water in one to let him give it a try. He would hold it, but didn't get holding it to drink. I held it for him and he drank a bit of water from it.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: That is great he liked the carrots. Did he like the water? R tried to grab my water bottle, so I put the straw in her mouth but she didn't know what to do.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: He didn't seem to mind the water. I gave it to him at room temp. A lot of it he just drooled out. And then when I let him play with and explore the cup a bunch of water got spilled out.
It seems these days he wants anything I eat or drink. He is always reaching for my cups and food. Tomorrow I will give him water with his food. I don't mind if I have to help him hold the cup, I mean he is only 5 months. I'm hoping that since he hates bottles that maybe I can get him to take milk out of a sippy cup. I will wait to try that though after he has gotten used to it.

@aprk: Yikes! I forgot why, is there a reason he isn't in a crib? Are you doing the Montessori kind of room?
@travellingbee: Yay! Glad the sleep is better!
@Smurfette: Sounds like R's tooth/teeth are going to pop out any minute!
@ALV91711: Interesting he didn't like the apple as much as carrots and oatmeal! I thought all babies were supposed to love the sweet stuff! I can't believe you're on solids and sippy cups already!
OMG - we had a ROUGH go of it today! Last night's monster nap was NOT as people say "sleep begets sleep". She woke up 3 times. And was raring to go before 8 am this morning (which was almost 2 hours earlier than her normal). I managed to get her back to sleep in our bed until her regular wake-up time.
AF also decided to make her appearance today. Something I never missed and wanted to stay away from as long as possible. Hoping she's not back regularly as long as I'm BF'ing.
We had to go to my ILs tonight for MIL's birthday. Since DH has a work thing there in the morning and was going to sleep over there tonight, we had to take 2 separate cars. Which meant me driving solo with K for 1 hour going there, and over an hour in night-time traffic getting home. Ahhh! The night time drive was THE.WORST! She literally wailed, screamed, and sobbed for an hour! Became quiet about the last 5 miles home. When we got home she was still awake but aggressively sucking her thumb. Couldn't pry the thing out of her mouth to unbuckle, change, bathe, or nurse her. She basically looked shell-shocked from crying so long (the most ever) and being out past her bedtime. I swear it's not worth it. Even if everyone says "she's fine" at the party and through the late dinner. No one understands how bad she melts down in the car at night. IDK why, but she always freaks out in the car at night. I'm exhausted now. I think I deserve some wine...

@ALV91711: No, I'm a chicken! We're planning on starting solids tonight!!!
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@shopaholic: yep we have a montessori room for him. And I just woke up to him talking and playing by himself this morning. No screaming to come get him. Woohoo!
Sorry about the rough ride him. That is so tough. I got AF at two months pp. Such BS!!
@Adira: haha. So cute
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: haha, R's got food all over her face! But she looks pretty pleased about it!
@silver1: I bet the jumper would be even better at exercising the legs than the exersaucer, and I feel like Xander gets a decent leg workout with the exersaucer! So hopefully that works for you!!
@shopaholic: Wow!!! I can't believe how long K napped the other day!!! But that's a bummer it messed up her bedtime routine. I usually wake Xander up if his nap is encroaching on bedtime stuff!
Ugh, sorry AF showed back up! I'm still waiting for her to make her appearance for me, but I'm also on the mini pill, so maybe that will keep her away?
Sorry about your ride with K!!!! People just DON'T understand babies needing to stay on their schedules! I left our in-laws early last weekend to make sure we got Xander home in time for bed and people seemed really upset with me, but I was worried about experiencing what you just experienced with K!! So sorry!!!
@travellingbee: So glad to hear that L is doing better now that his tooth broke through! Yay!!
@ALV91711: Maybe the apple tasted too bitter? That's awesome he liked the carrots!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: Yeah I figure I will have to help her with the water for a little bit
@shopaholic: So sorry about AF! The bi*ch, doesn't she know she isn't welcome!!! I don't go do anything at night. It isn't worth it to me. I will let DH just go and I will stay home with R.
@Adira: Happy 6 months Xander!!! Love his tongue. What solid are you trying tonight? Are you going to warm it? A lady here at work was like you aren't going to heat up her food? I said no, I was just going to give it out of the container. Plus what do you do when you are out?
@aprk: That is awesome!! Those mornings are rare in our house but I love them. So cute just hearing them talk to themselves.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: The plan is try to sweet potatoes tonight! I wasn't planning on warming it at all, although I was going to mix it with BM and I'll probably heat that up to at least room temperature. Maybe if I kept the food in the fridge, I'd warm it first, but it's just in the cupboards until they're opened.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Good! That is what I was thinking. If I open a new package just give it to her that way. Then warm it to room temp if from the fridge. I bought some Gerber foods yesterday, they were on sale at Target. How much are you going to give?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: So I THINK I'm going to start with 1 TBSP food and mix with 2 TBSP breastmilk and offer that to him. And if he eats it all and wants me, then I'll just make another batch of the same thing! I guess if he can't get enough, I'll give him a whole package (which is like 2oz, I think?)... I'm interested to see how he does with it!
ETA: Or I may just do 1 TBSP : 1 TBSP - I'll have to see what the consistency is like!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Why do you mix with BM? I think the containers are 2.5oz. I was thinking I would try half of one at a time.
bananas / 9973 posts
@Adira: SO adorable! Happy 6 Months Xander! Love the tongue! Ooh! Let us know how the sweet potatoes work! That's in my list to start for "orange" colored foods.
Do you have an appt. for him this week to check stats? He looks tall! You're smart to leave early. I kept wanting to leave before 8, but dinner didn't even start until almost 8. In the future I will know better (but what are you gonna do when it's your MIL's birthday party?)
@aprk: That is awesome about his wake up. Boo to AF. I think I had one day of light spotting at 3 months. I'm hoping this is a one-off too.
@Smurfette: Agreed. I really didn't think dinner was worth it. P.S. So jealous you SCORED on those Zoli cups! I bought just one so far. But it's a good idea and now I'm off to check eBay for some!
Couldn't sleep till 2:30 am (maybe because DH's not home) and woke up now at 5 am with swollen, itchy eyes and lips. Obviously ate something I'm allergic to and had to take a Benedryl. Decided to pump one side since I'm up anyway and hoping to keep my supply up. I've been pumping in the MOTN if/when I'm awake nowadays. Anyone else crazy like that? I'm scared for myself today.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: I was going to order some yesterday, so I was pumped when I saw them. Plus she can throw them in with what else I have bought from her.
Sorry you couldn't sleep and then had to take some Benedryl. I don't pump if I am up. I just lay in bed hoping I will fall back asleep before the lion wakes up again
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Well, I guess I'll have to open a package and check it out first before I do anything, but I thought I read that for their first food, it's good to mix so that it has some of the normal flavor they are used to and so that it's also fairly liquidy so it's easy to swallow. But I don't know! Maybe you only have to mix cereals but not the veggies/fruits?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: haha, I'm a bitch, so I would've just left. We were at my in-laws and we were TOLD lunch would be at 12:30, but near 3:00, there's still no food! So I just announce to the world "I hope we're going to eat soon because we have to leave at 4:30!" Everyone was all "WHAT?? WHY so early???" and I said "Because we need to get home before Xander's bedtime" and was just very firm on it. If they hadn't fed us, we would've just left on time and just gotten food on the way home, haha.
I also have bought one Zoli cup, but I don't want to buy more until I know whether Xander takes to it or not! I also bought a random sippy cup to try out, haha.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: You might be right, I didn't even look at the packages detail. Makes sense, but that means I have to pump that much more.......no pressure!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: haha, I know what you mean! And actually now that I'm trying to look it up, all I can find it talking about mixing BM with the cereals, so maybe you don't have to do it with the fruits/veggies... but I feel like maybe I should because that's what we're starting with?? I don't know!!! And I hear you on pumping more - ugh.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: @shopaholic: We had multiple birthday things with my family the last two months, I said if you want us there, we are doing lunch. Otherwise we won't be there. I am not taking her out anywhere past her bedtime.
@Adira: I bought a sippy cup at Target too, just in case she doesn't like the Zoli. But I would rather her just use a straw cup.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: If it doesn't say to mix, I would try it without and see how he likes it. That way he gets use to it plain and it isn't something you have to keep up. You can always add some if he doesn't like. Post a picture of him with potatoes all over!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yeah, I agree, I'd rather he got used to a straw, but the Zoli I ordered isn't going to be here until mid-week, so I got a regular sippy cup to start with! We'll see how it goes...
bananas / 9973 posts
@Adira: No food still at 3? I would have just been a B* because I would be STARVING and Hangry!
I also bought a 2 pack of Boon "Sip" sippy cups. Scored them at Home Goods and they looked nice! No straws, it has a firm spout, but it says 9+ months on the package, so I'll have to wait to try those.
bananas / 9973 posts
I feel like I'm the last mom holding out on solids still! lol!
Well, Mr. Xander IS 6 months now. We still have a week and half to go! But I don't see the same signs of readiness in K yet, so I might even be able to hold off longer!
So... big question for the solids-starters.... How Is The Poop?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: Well they had appetizers set out, so I wasn't starving or anything! But I was annoyed that they didn't serve lunch until super late!!
Oh, interesting! The sippy cup I bought says 6m+, so I'm guessing I should be good to use it. I actually tried it myself, haha, and it's like a bottle with how hard you have to suck on it!!! But it's spill-proof, so that's good, right?
And I held out on solids until today out of pure stubbornness, haha! I wanted to say I EBF'd him until six months, haha. But also, he seems totally content NOT having more food, so I felt okay waiting. He doesn't seem like he's hungry - no MOTN wakeups to eat, and seems totally satisfied after meals. Though I did notice yesterday him STARING at me as I was eating!!! Now that he's finally six months and I bought all my supplies, I'm excited to start! Although the poop makes me nervous....
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: I haven't noticed any change in her poop with the cereal. But it also really runny lately, due to teething, so already not normal.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: Also there is nothing wrong with waiting if you want too! I just finally gave in after hearing day care saying how much she wanted to eat when the other kids are, and DH really wanted to try cereal to see if it would help her sleep better.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Have you noticed a difference with sleep at all? And now that you've started cereal, are you going to have her eat solids at daycare?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
So... I kind of had a baby #2 talk with Hubs last night. I'm not sure it went well... he basically said he didn't want another baby and that he thinks Xander is already too much work, he misses his free time, and he feels neglected by me, and so another baby will just make it all worse and he'll be unhappy.
But then he said I could basically have whatever I wanted. So... win?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Friday night she was up 5 times (only once DH got her back asleep, and then she woke up 30 mins later), Sat 3 times (one time DH got her back down), and last night she was up twice. So it has gotten better. We also use Oragel natural on her gums last night so I am not sure if that helped too.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh yeah, if she's teething, no amount of solids is going to make her sleep any better!!! Glad to hear it's getting better at least! Hopefully the tooth (or teeth) break through soon and she feels better (and sleeps better)!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: well do you want another knowing he doesn't? Or do you think he will start to come around once Xander gets older? Definitely don't tell him Xander is the easy one out of the March babies!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I think the 2nd bottom one is working on popping through. She was happy yesterday, just spit up a bunch and was drooling like crazy.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I just can't imagine having only one child! The plan was always to have two! And he definitely is getting more into Xander as he gets older - he seems to have fun playing with him now that he can interact more, and I suspect he'll enjoy it even more once we can actually do more things with Xander! Like I know he wants to take him skiing, and I want to take him swimming, and fun stuff like that. Plus when I think about when I'm 60, I want to have a FAMILY - not just one child to visit me! And I want my grandchildren to be able to have COUSINS! Part of me just thinks I should go ahead and just continue my plan and Hubs will eventually come around once the baby is here, but I really DON'T want to make my husband miserable!!!
I think a big part of the problem is that currently, I'll nurse Xander at 6:00/6:30, then do bedtime, then at 7:30, we'll START making dinner, have dinner around 8:00, and then I go nurse Xander at 9:00, so Hubs and I don't have a ton of time in the evening to ourselves, which is why Hubs feels neglected. I'm HOPING that with my new plan to nurse Xander at 5:30, Hubs makes dinner for 6:30, Xander in bed by 7:30, Hubs and I will actually have time to ourselves in the evening and I'll be able to stop neglecting him so much! I think once we start spending more time together just the two of us, he'll be more open to another kid. He's just been really neglected by me the last six months, so I think he's thinking another kid will just make things so much worse and he already feels neglected!
