Finally got a picture of her teeth! Waiting for them to come all the way up still
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: OMG, TEETH!!!
So Xander's even smaller than I was expecting. 16 lbs 0.5 oz (15% weight) and 27 inches (51% height). I suspect the height measurement for both last time and this time were incorrect and he probably wasn't as tall as they measured last time, but I think he's taller than they measured this time. But for weight, I'm kind of bummed - he gained less than 1lb in 6 weeks. But the pediatrician didn't seem concerned by it, so that's good.
He also has an ear infection and is teething, poor guy! And he got his vaccinations and the flu shot today! He CRIED, but as soon as I picked him up, he calmed down immediately. I didn't even have to nurse him or give him his pacifier!
The pediatrician didn't seem overly concerned about his lack of interest in solids, but said it was important to get him to eat them because he needs to get the iron which he won't be getting enough of from my breast milk. She just said to keep offering it to him and that she'd be concerned if he STILL wasn't eating it by 9 months, so hopefully he'll be eating by then!
Now the poor little guy is napping!

@smurfette: Great picture!!! So glad they cut through.
@adira: Sorry to hear Xander has an ear infection and is teething. Are you giving him antibiotics for the ear infection? Glad he calmed down after his shots.
K's 6 month appt is in a few weeks and I'm too busy with work to be able to take her - soooooooo bummed. I need to give DH notes on what to ask the doc, but I have no idea.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@sheskrafty: Yes, we have a prescription for antibiotics, though I haven't picked them up yet! I guess he's actually had it for a while because she said one ear definitely was infected and the other ear looked like it was healing from an infection! Ooops!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Poor Xander!! I hope the meds kick in soon. And I am totally jealous he is teething and still sleeping so good!
R is 14.10 lbs, (so she gained 1.9lbs since her weight check on 8/1), 25%. She is 25" tall, 45%. So her height has really evened, and not growing as much as she was at first. Doctor was impressed she has 2 teeth, crawling, said she is doing great. She does have some yeast on her vagina, looked like diaper rash to me, opps. So we have to get some cream for that.
She had some wax build up and DID NOT like when the doctor was getting it out. Nor the 3 shots she got (flu shot was the extra) but she calmed down, we gave her a bottle and she was fine. She was over due for a nap, cause we had to wait forever. She was out as soon as she was back in her car seat.
The doctor said to start moving towards 4 bottles a day, and three solid meals. So I think we are going to add breakfast at day care next week. And up an oz with her bottles. Doctor wants her to go more to 4 hours between bottles by 9 months anyway.
The biggest is she told us to just let R CIO. That we have gotten her use to eating again the middle of the night. So we have to train her all over again. I am already on the verge of tears thinking about making her cry tonight. But I know she can go all night, so we need to get her there again. The doctor said we need to do it now, the longer we wait the harder it is going to be. DH is keeping the monitor on his side of the bed tonight, so I don't stay up all night watching it.
I just got to work and now have to pump. I feel so bad....
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Wow!!! She gained a TON in the last 6 weeks! Jealous!!!! Though she's still a little peanut, haha. Bummer about the yeast - Xander had some too on his butt. We got a cream for it that worked really well, so hopefully whatever you get for R works too!
Bummer you have to CIO again, but it'll be good for you both once she's sleeping through the night again! You both will be a lot happier! Is your husband around to help you tonight or is it just you?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: He is here, that is why we are doing it over the weekend. He leaves Monday and won't be back till Friday night, late, so he doesn't want me to have to do all the wake ups by myself.
I just hope it works............I already feel guilty. But I know she needs to learn to self soothe. And she knows how to put herself to sleep........just needs to relearn in the middle of the night.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Hopefully it won't be as bad as you're anticipating and maybe just after one wakeup where you let her CIO, she figures it out for the rest!!! Fingers crossed!!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I doubt it, she has been waking up 3 times........but the doctor said she needs to be sleeping 12 hours straight........I will let yall know how it goes.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh really? Xander isn't sleeping 12 hours straight. The pediatrician didn't even ask me about his sleep!
Also, what is this?? My little man eating banana??
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Yeah she says she should be getting 3 hours of naps during the day, ideally 2 naps. This week, she has been, and 12 hours at night.
OMG, he did it!! How much did he eat??
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: What! 2 naps!! That's crazy talk!
I'm not entirely sure how much he ate. I gave him half a banana and most if it ended up on the floor or on his bib... so maybe he ate like 1/8th of a whole banana? Just a guess - he may have just been sucking on banana juice for all I know!

LO's name: Reagan
Age: 6 months
Weight: 14.10 lbs
Length: 25"
Recent milestones: Full on army crawling, she gets across the room. Two bottom teeth. Sits up great. She tries to pull herself up by grabbing on us.
Next milestone you're most looking forward to: Going from laying down to sitting up on her own. And for her to hold her arms up, so I will pick her up.
How's feeding going: Good. Starting to wean from BF. She takes a bottle great from me, so that isn't a concern. She loves solids. Tried cereal and oatmeal so far. Veggies are on tap for the weekend. DH wants to do sweet potatoes first.
How's sleep going: Naps - going much-much better. Starting to take longer naps at day car and at home. Yesterday she took over 3 hours in naps, and it was two naps.
Night - not going. She was STTN most nights, and then crawling and teething came along and it is totally crap. Per the pediatrician we are sleeping training this weekend to get her back on track. My heart is already breaking.
What is your favorite trait about your LO? Her smile! I love how she sees DH and she immediately starts to smile. The smile I get when I pick her up every afternoon makes my whole day. And I love how much she talks to herself. Cracks us up.
What is something silly that your LO does? When nursing she pops off to find DH when she hears him, gives him a smile, and pops back on. Then repeat about 5 times.

@Smurfette: I agree! Just the fact that he was picking up pieces of banana and bringing them to his mouth is a HUGE milestone in my book!!!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Adira: Go Xander! I hope he continues to like them. I hope his ear infection clears up soon, poor guy. At least he still is sleeping good.
@Smurfette: What cute little teeth! I'm sorry you have to CIO again. At least you are not on your own for the weekend. I'm not going to nap train this weekend now since I have some company coming tomorrow. I talked to DH about it and we will do it when we have nowhere to go for a few days.
I wish we got 12 hours at night. Isaac must be teething. 3 of the last 4 nights he has been awake for two hours. He is so tired but nothing we do gets him back to sleep. I hope he does better this weekend as I'm on my own. At least DH is willing to get up and rock and hold him for half of it.
Wednesday he has shots, I can't wait to find out how much he weighs.
Tonight I'm going to try chunks of banana instead of mushing it and see how he likes it.

LO's name: Xander
Age: 6.5 months
Weight: 16 lbs 0.5 oz
Length: 27 inches
Recent milestones: Sits up unassisted (for a short period of time), ATE SOME SOLIDS, scoots around while on his back, kisses? or maybe he's just trying to eat my face...
Next milestone you're most looking forward to: Being able to go from laying down to sitting up, being able to crawl (or get around without scooting backwards)
How's feeding going: We're still breastfeeding, but JUST got him to eat some solids today!
How's sleep going: Naps are still iffy and all over the place. He usually does 3 naps a day, but they can be anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours. Night time sleep is great! He goes down around 7:30, eats at 9:00 and then sleeps until 5:30, eats, and sleeps again until 7:00.
What is your favorite trait about your LO? How happy he is!!! He is ALWAYS smiling (unless you're trying to feed him sweet potato). And his laughs seem to come so much more easily now!
What is something silly that your LO does? He scoots backwards while lying on his back! He can't see where he's going, so he always ends up scooting into something, like the corner of the crib or a wall, haha.

@ALV91711: Good luck with the banana! We just gave him a whole half a banana and the first night he wanted NOTHING to do with it - even touching it seemed to gross him out! But then today, he was all over the banana and ended up mashing it into chunks himself!

@Smurfette: thatz a pretty good weight gain and such cute little teeth!! good luck with sleep training and hope R becomes a little sleep champ once again!
@Adira: Sorry your your little man has an ear infection hoping it clears up soon. Thatz great he took to banana go Xander!! He looks so adorable
@ALV91711: Hope he sleeps better for you this weekend and good luck with banana!!

The banana went great. I had mushed up a small amount just in case then broke the banana in two and put it on his tray. At first he didn't know it was food, so I put it up to his mouth and put it back on the tray. He was all over it until it was too slippery for him to hold.

@Mrs. High Heels: N is so sweet! I guess that's something to look forward to in the toddler years!
@Smurfette: Those teeth!!! eek! She is still such a little peanut, but SO advanced! I don't think K is doing half the stuff R's already mastered!
@Adira: Wow! I think K is going to outweigh Xander soon! Their roles have reversed. lol. Love the banana pic.
@sheskrafty: Sorry you won't make the appt. But at least you won't have to be there for the pain and crying.
@ALV91711: Our nights have had more wakings lately too. Good luck with the banana!
@ALV91711: Way to go!
As for us, we have our 6 month appt. on Monday (which is really closer to 6.5 months). I think K weighs about 15.4 lbs now (according to my weighing myself and then with her). We tried solids (green beans) yesterday and I did post pics in another thread! I didn't get around to it today. I'll try to get one meal a day this weekend. She didn't really swallow any of it I don't think. I couldn't tell.
I think K was going through a growth spurt about a week ago, so I was just letting her nurse every couple of hours. I don't know if I've raised a bad habit now.... she's been waking up about every 4-5 hours since. AND waking up earlier to start the day. We've never had to do any sleep training so far and I've really been hoping we'd avoid it all together. Hoping it's just a spurt/teething thing, and that our 12-13 hours/night picks back up. With her short-lived naps, I really NEED those long nights.
* I DID realize though, that her first wake up has been coinciding with when DH gets ready to go to bed at night. Last night, I tried holding her in the glider, to go back to sleep, without nursing. We could hear how LOUD DH was in the kitchen and family room. Banging around, washing dishes, etc. I mentioned it to him, and hopefully he will be more conscious and quiet going forward.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@Smurfette: R seriously is so advanced!! That's exactly how J's teeth looked at first too. They're still making their way up up up. He's sprouting his top two teeth now. Great idea on the questionnaire. I'll fill it out later.
@Adira: I already said it in your other thread, but GO Xander for eating solids!! Bananas are yum... he knows good food! Sorry to hear he has an ear infection though... at least one ear is clearing up all on its own, and its pretty amazing that he hasn't seemed to be too affected by them! Seriously, ANGEL BABY.
@ALV91711: Glad he took well to the banana! Hope you get more sleep tonight.
@shopaholic: Hopefully DH being more quiet will do the trick for preventing that one wake up.
So I checked J's stats from his 6 month appointment (DH took him this time), since my doctor houses them online and I can access the stats anytime. J weighed in at 21.3 lbs (93%), and his height is 28.4 inches (95%). He's a big baby!
And he's starting to belly crawl!! Tonight, we were all surrounding him on the playmat to see if he'd reach for something, and he slowly but surely belly crawled his way over to it! He still can't comfortably sit up unassisted for long periods of time yet though. He can only do it for about a minute before he starts toppling over.

Age: 6.5 months (born 2/22)
Weight: 21.3 lbs
Length: 28.4 inches
Recent milestones: Sitting up unassisted for short periods of time, starting solids, and starting to belly crawl.
Next milestone you're most looking forward to: For him to sit up on his own, for him to start pulling up on things.
How's feeding going: Pretty good! We've started purees and some BLW, but we are so inconsistent. Some days we completely forget or are too busy to give him even one solid meal. Luckily we still have breastfeeding going for us. He's tried green beans, peas, cauliflower, cucumber, banana, avocado, tofu, and rice cereal so far.
How's sleep going: His naps sucked this week, but he got in two good ones today so I'm thinking the crap naps might've been from his top two teeth sprouting through. His night sleep is still really great. He goes down really easily at 7:30 pm, and sleeps until 6:30 am.
What is your favorite trait about your LO? His smiles!! He smiles SO easily and is such a happy baby... he melts my heart over and over again with his big ol' grins. I also love munching on his rolls. He has gargantuan thighs with lots of cellulite, haha.
What is something silly that your LO does? The same thing that Smurfette mentioned! Whenever I'm nursing him and someone is in the room talking to me, he'll pop off and look around and see what's going on. He always wants to be a part of the action and doesn't want to miss out on anything! He is such a curious cat.
Here's a recent pic of him munching on his banana:
The end. I love him.

@Adira: Look at him with that banana! That is one of the only foods Liam has taken a liking to. Did you give him pieces or mash it up? Hope his ear infection clears up with the medicine!
@ALV91711: I hope you can get a better night of sleep and that the weekend goes well for you. Teething stinks Glad he liked the banana!
@Mrs. High Heels: Big boy! That's so fun that he's starting to belly crawl. I am both excited and scared for when Liam figures out how to move.

Recent milestones: sitting on his own for longer, rolling around like crazy and trying to scoot while on his tummy, starting to eat a little more solids
Next milestone you're most looking forward to: crawling (this also scares me!)
How's feeding going: He doesn't seem to like it very much most days. MIL said he ate up the sweet potato we sent today though! We do one or two 'meals' a day - sending something to daycare and then if there's time at night we do another meal. We have tried brown rice cereal, sweet potato, banana, pears, avocado, blueberry, and squash so far
How's sleep going: I hesitate to say it... (because now that I wrote it he will probably be up screaming later tonight) but this week he has slept from about 7:30 to between 5 and 6. All but one night when he woke up at 3ish. I actually slept for 7 hours last night. Surreal.
What is your favorite trait about your LO? His smile and laugh. He's so happy almost all of the time. I love how his personality is starting to really show and I love watching him curiously explore new things.
What is something silly that your LO does? He acts shy and will turn his head away when you are looking at him then turn back and smile and repeat. He loves splashing in the bath he will kick his legs like crazy and then slap his hands down and giggle

@ALV91711: yay on bananas!!
@shopaholic: Sorry you are having sleep troubles too. Hoping it is teething and she starts sleeping good again.
@Mrs. High Heels: I am dreading the top two teeth! I don't feel or see anything yet! J is so cute! He is so much bigger then R! Now y'all have me wanting to give R a banana
@dojo: you have done a lot of solids, I feel so behind. But can't wait to try a veggie today.
So last night wasn't bad. DH came to bed around 230 and said she just woke up at 145ish. So that itself was progress. He said she fussed for awhile, them cried off and on. Was back asleep by 3 and then woke up a little before 7. And she didn't hate when I went to get her. She was hungry but smiling! Fingers crossed tonight is even better!

@Smurfette: Sounds like the night wasn't too bad. Hopefully tonight will be better.
Our night was pretty good. Didn't wake up for the first time until 1, then 3:30. Then he woke up at 6 nursed and decided it was time to be awake and play. Too early for me. Hopefully he will nap decent today so that I can get a nap too.

@dojo: I just gave him a whole half banana - he ended up breaking it apart and basically sucking on little chunks of it!
Xander is the same in the bath!!! He kicks his legs like crazy and splashes a bunch! He LOVES it!!

Length: Not sure but I think about 28 inches
Recent milestones: Noticing lots of details. He is hyper aware of things that he didn't notice before. Like tags on things and the dog and his giraffe sound machine on his crib. He sits awesome. Never falls down. Got 2 teeth this month.
Next milestone you're most looking forward to: Crawling, I guess. Like everyone else though I am nervous about it. But I was nervous about starting solids and that has gone well and has been fun.
How's feeding going: Good! He is still a happy BF baby. Pumping is going ok at work and he is taking the bottle better at daycare now. He is eating 4 oz of solids for breakfast at daycare and 2 oz for dinner at night.
How's sleep going: Um. It's not. He has a cold right now so that is certainly not helping.
What is your favorite trait about your LO? He is so so so silly. What a goof-ball. The teachers all say how happy he is at school and how noisy he is (happy noises)
What is something silly that your LO does? He makes the craziest sounds. The kid LOVES his voice. And he blows raspberries all day long. Tonight he realized that if he blows raspberries while eating, he can shoot carrots all over the place. Awesome.
