@Smurfette: Wow! R might be petite, but she's so ahead of all the other March babies! Way to go R! But I'm okay with K staying immobile for awhile! I've already got my hands full with her just rolling everywhere!

Just wondering how many times a day you ladies are giving your babies solids and how much?

Yesterday I started lunch, we'll today was more lie brunch. He eats about 1-2 oz per meal. Sometimes a lot less.

I made chicken purée yesterday, which he likes, but the smell was gross. I don't know if I'll make more meat or just buy jars.

@ALV91711: we do lunch and dinner. One 2.5oz container, sometimes 2. I bough 3.5 oz to send to day care. She is like a bottomless out, always wants to eat.

@Smurfette: wow, she eats a lot. How many bottles is she having?

  10. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@ALV91711: I nurse at 630(or when she wakes up), 3 bottles during the day, and the nurse again at 630. She gets 5oz bottles. Like I said bottomless pit.

@ALV91711: A eats one 4 oz pouch a day, and some random finger foods that he really doesn't swallow all that much of.

Thanks ladies. The rest of the weekend has been better, Hubs-wise, but Xander's sick and teething, so he has NOT been a happy camper. I can't wait for him to feel better! At least he still sleeps at night well. Although last night around 11:00, he woke up screaming, so we gave him some Tylenol and that seemed to help.

@Smurfette: Wow, go R!!! She's so advanced, haha.

@ALV91711: Xander's still just working on cereal mostly. Last time I fed him, I did about 1 tbsp cereal mixed with BM, so I'm not sure how much that was. He seems like he could have more, but most of it just ends up on his bib, so until he's actually swallowing most of it, I'm not making more, haha.

So I went to get a pedicure and the manicurist asked me if I was having a boy or a girl. Ugh.

    @ALV91711: @Smurfette: Wow! That's quite a bit of solids! Especially R!

I have to admit, I am VERY bad at remembering to give K solids. Between trying to get her napping, working on maintaining my supply, and just doing daily stuff, I often forget solids till evening. If I try to do solids, we're still just getting *maybe 1-2 teaspoons at a time. I did give in and try oatmeal one time to see i she liked that better. But it didn't seem to go over much better than the veggies. I might try and give her a stick of celery just to gnaw on this week. Anyone try that?

@Adira: Boo to the manicurist. I wish they'd all stay quiet.

K had a good solid nap 1x each day this weekend! *ahhh!!!* Her cues and nap needs are much more consistent these days.

She wouldn't nap in the late afternoon though, no matter what I tried, so we had to move up bedtime. She also seems to be teething this weekend. At night she's been fussy and will cry if she does not have something to gnaw on in her mouth. The combo tonight was a really tired, cranky, and teething baby - we finally broke down and gave her Motrin for the first time (I read it's better than Tylenol for teething?) She seemed to calm down a bit afterwards.

@ALV91711: I had no idea that what L was eating was so much! At school, midmorning, he eats a 4 ounce jar or pouch plus oatmeal. Then he has another 4 ounces for dinner.

@shopaholic: Xander's teething too and has been fussy all weekend! And yesterday the only naps he would take were on the boob and he wouldn't even do that for his last afternoon nap, so he also went to bed early! Glad to hear the Motrin helped K - we have Tylenol and had to use it a couple times this weekend and it seemed to help. I hope these babies feel better soon!!!

    @Adira: Rude!

@shopaholic: I haven't tried celery but that is a good idea. I want to start R getting use to food not just purees. But she had zero interest in puffs and mum mums yesterday.
Teething sucks. Glad that the Motrin helped her. We haven't tried Motrin/Advil yet, since we had to do Tylenol cause she wasn't 6 months yet.

@travellingbee: L is a porky like R!! What purees have you tried? Any meats?

  18. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: You have two Zoli cups, right? Do you use them both at home? Do you find having two is helpful? I currently have one and we only do solids in the evening, so we just wash it after. I'm curious if we may eventually want a second. Or maybe we would want to send it to daycare once he's eating solids there?

  19. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: We have three actually that I bought on the classifieds. I finally put the straws in and I haven't tried them. I totally forgot this weekend. We tried to give her water through our straw while we were at lunch on Sat, gave her purees there, and she just lets it drip right out of her mouth. She doesn't seem to like water at all. Right now have a sippy cup at home and one at day care. She doesn't take either. Just likes to bang in around the high chair.

  20. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: When Xander first started using the Zoli, it took him a little bit to figure out how to suck up the water through the straw and then he'd just let the water drip out of his mouth, but now he seems to have a better grasp of what he's doing and seems to actually DRINK some of it, haha! So I'm sure R will eventually get the hang of it too!

@Adira: oh that's what L does, he just let it dribble out.

I am at work today and I am pump free!! Down to nursing just morning and night. So far the boobs are taking it a little hard. Sat I was super engorged by 530, when I pumped since we went on a date night. But last night was a little better.

@Smurfette: OMG, sooooo jealous!!!!! That must be sooooo nice to not have to worry about pump parts and pumping anymore!!! Congratulations!

@Adira: I will admit it was nice but weird to not be the bag lady walking into work.

@Smurfette: Now, I know you hated pumping, but are you a little sad about not having those breaks during the day? I don't like pumping, but I do like how it breaks up my day.

  27. Smurfette

@Adira: Yeah as hard as it was to take the breaks some days, I do miss my Candy Crush time!!

@Smurfette: haha, I hear that! And it's a great excuse to get out of meetings or other things! But being able to actually get work done without stopping every few hours must be nice too.

@Smurfette: The boys are the same way about solids. Today, I sent two 2.5 oz. containers of food for each because they've been finishing off one and looking for more when it's all gone! As for finger foods, though, that one banana I took a pic of for IG is the only success we've had. They couldn't care less about puffs, bananas, avocados, etc. They just want me to shovel some purees in their mouths. R is such a rockstar with her physical milestones. That girl is going to be running a marathon by 8 months!

@ALV91711: The boys eat in the morning at daycare and then at dinner. They've each been polishing off a 2.5 oz. container at each meal, so today I sent two containers for each of them. We'll see if they down all of that or not. Finn fights his bottles more, but that kids loves him some solids.

Sippy cups at our house are a thing of great interest, but not a method of providing liquids! They love to hold them and will even get some water up the straw but then they promptly let it dribble out their mouths. At least they have a fascinating new toy!

@Adira: As to the manicurist comment: WHY do these people open their mouths??? I know that I still look like I'm several months pregnant, and I live in fear of being asked something like this. Lame, people, lame.

  31. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Mrs. Blue: Seriously! I found out today that she is hanging out with a boy at school that is about 9 months and was walking at 8 months. I think she is going to do it so she can keep up with him.
Glad that your boys are eating as much as R. Do they get mad when you don't feed them fast enough? R bangs her hands and feet down. I send one 3.5 oz today, so we will how she does with that.
Have you bought any mixes yet? I bought a veggie medley to try one day. I wasn't sure about buying the meat purees. Are they allowed to have that?

  32. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. Blue: Seriously! I was all "Oh, I'm not pregnant, but I JUST had a baby!" That's still a valid response until he's like three, right??

  33. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Smurfette: F especially gets mad if the spoonfuls don't come quickly enough--he starts making super Baby Pterodactyl noises. When they run out, he literally screams so much he turns red, until I give him a spoon or sippy play with as a distraction. E is a little more relaxed about it--maybe cause he's chunkier and doesn't have to care so much. I was actually just wandering about the mixes and the meat combos. I ordered some meat combos from Amazon that should arrive soon because I thought I read something (maybe on Wholesome Baby Foods) about starting meats at 7 months, but I think it's probably fine whenever. As for the mixes, I think anything they've had both of before would definitely be fine, like sweet potato-apple combos, veggie mixes, etc., but I'm a little nervous about some of the other combo stuff since it's not stuff that they sell individually. We have our 6-month appt Friday, so I'll ask our ped and let you know what his advice is. I know there are sometimes allergy concerns, but since they haven't had any problems so far and don't have any significant family allergies, I suspect I can be a pretty relaxed about introducing new foods/combos, minus stuff like peanuts.

I love that R is trying to keep up with the big boys at school. That cracks me up. She's such an overachiever already!

@Adira: You can definitely still say that. I'm going to think of them as my "tiny babies" until they're at least 65, so I have no problem using that phrase for the rest of our lives!

  34. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Mrs. Blue: I have to give R the spoon and sippy cup to distract her as well. I just worry if she really hungry still or just likes eating. She usually calms down so I guess she isn't really hungry.
I thought the same thing looking at the mixes yesterday at Target. They don't sell Mango by itself but was in so many mixes. Let me know what your pedi says. I have been lose about allergies as well since DH and I don't have any.

  35. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. Blue: @Smurfette: I think you ladies should be okay with mixes if it only has ONE new food in it. Like say your LOs have had banana and apple before, but not mango and the mix is a banana-apple-mango mix. Then if they DO have a reaction, you know it's to the mango!

@Mrs. Blue: @Smurfette: I just can't get over that you ladies are already talking about mixes and meats!!! I feel like I've JUST gotten Xander to actually EAT cereal and am trying to introduce veggies and fruits! I feel so behind in the solids department, haha!

@Adira: Well I am glad that we finally have something that R is easy over Xander

  39. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: R makes Xander seem sooooooo behind, what with all her eating, crawling, pulling to stand! Xander's like "Hey dude, just lay me on the floor and I won't move..."

  40. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Yes but yet again he is easy cause he just lays there. R won't stop moving!
