@shopaholic: I love her bib!!!
@ALV91711: Glad to hear that the sleep training is working so far!!!! Sleep is sooooo crucial for us parents!

@sheskrafty: I have maybe a month in the freezer. I am saving it till I am done nursing. That way she still get a bottle a day for a little bit longer.
persimmon / 1165 posts
@Smurfette: thanks! I've only ever given K one BM bottle/day but I dropped a pumping session last week due to being busy. I'm not pumping enough for the one bottle anymore so I feel like I'm going to use up my freezer stash before I'm done weaning.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@sheskrafty: Mine would have been gone, but we wanted to get her to use to more formula. So right now I nurse, 3 bottles of formula, and then nurse.
Has she had formula? Are you totally weaning?
persimmon / 1165 posts
@Smurfette: she's had formula since week 3 so it wouldn't be hard for her to drink it exclusively - especially now since she's inhaling solids faster than I can make them. I'm just not sure if I should save some of my freezer stash for when she's sick or something? Or just use it all and not worry about it.
I'm definitely not mentally ready to totally wean. I still have fenugreek and tea to finish. But I think we're going to casually start TTC in the new year so I figure I should slowing start the process? Since my supply has always been low I'm afraid that once I stop pumping I'll probably dry up - which I guess wouldn't be terrible. Ideally I'd like to still be able to feed her at night since she wakes a lot still, and have AF come back at the same time. Sorry for the babbling!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@sheskrafty: You might be able to still just nurse at night and AF come back. I personally wouldn't worry about saving it for when she was sick. I would just use it when I needed/wanted too.
I have an IUD so not really supposed to have my period, but I had some all last night and this morning, and having cramps so I think AF has made her return for me.

Hi everyone!
Just popping in to say that I'm still here and I love reading the updates on all the sweet March babies. I feel like I get so much good advice from you ladies, even when I just skim the thread. I returned to work about 6 weeks ago and I just feel like I have no time to ever post on HelloBee. I generally catch up on threads and blog posts at night while nursing Pete on my ipad, but I can never write back in that position. I'm working on it!
Anyway, I had a good transition back to work. Pete is at daycare three days a week and then my mom watches him for two days a week. In general, it's been working very well and I officially feel like myself again now that I'm back at work. I just feel so so busy all.the.time. I'm trying to find ways to streamline everything so that life doesn't feel so hectic.
Last week was a rough one. Pete had a cold which led to a mild ear infection. He's still taking antibiotics but luckily they haven't caused any bad digestion issues. Then I got sick with the worst head cold ever. Ugh, I had to sleep with ice packs on my swollen nose and I could barely speak because I was so congested. We are all feeling a whole lot better now!
Pete is a BIG eater, like some of the other March babies. We feed him 2-3 meals of solids each day, plus 15 ounces of formula/breastmilk in bottles, plus his morning and evening nurse sessions. He gets organic baby oatmeal for breakfast with raspberries mixed in. Dinner is usually two or three veggies with some banana or avocado. I have been adding some pumpkin pie spice to a few of the veggies and he seems to like it. I also tried giving him some puffs yesterday. He successfully crunched on two but then gagged on the third. My heart stopped for a moment until he got a handle on it. I think I will wait a bit longer until giving him more puffs.
He got his first tooth last week and he just learned to crawl this weekend. I feel like this is a time of so many changes! We have to babyproof this weekend because he has already been caught splashing around in the dog's water bowl and reaching up towards an expensive glass vase that's on a low shelf.
Okay, off to teach a 10am class. I'm going to try to be better at keeping up!

@QueensBee: I was thinking about you the other day and wondering how you and Pete were. Glad to hear everything is going good.

@QueensBee: Yay!! Glad to hear that things are going well for you and Pete! Xander also just got over a cold and ear infection (and I think @Smurfette's R is getting over something similar) so it must be going around! And I'm jealous of all the good eaters!! Though I'm okay if Xander wants to stay a baby that much longer, haha.
I am soooo not looking forward to baby proofing! I'm glad Xander's not very mobile yet!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@QueensBee: Sounds like P and you are going great with the transition. Crawling is so much fun isn't it! We need to do more baby proofing. So far she hasn't gotten into too much stuff. R just got over another ear infection as well. Glad that he is a good eater too. And R gagged on a puff last night too, scared the crap out of me.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
R's teacher told me this morning that she was trying so hard to pull up to standing last night. Why doesn't my baby want to stay a baby? Is she ready to move out already?
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Adira: We have stuff to baby proof and have started, but I'm glad we don't have to hurry to get it done!

@Smurfette: Time to fill out the FAFSA for college!
@ALV91711: haha, me too!

@QueensBee: Glad to hear your transition went well. I hear you on the hectic life. Some days things get just so busy at work and then I keep counting nights until weekend when I can just finally relax. We just started giving J solids about 2 weeks back. We have quickly moved to 2nd stage purees and he is turning out to be a big eater too!! Can't wait to get to next stage of him eating bites. I guess I have to start cooking again. My days of takeout and frozen dinners are numbered!!
@Smurfette: Oh my gosh I won't be surprised if R is running around while J is figuring out to crawl!! (for the record he is nowhere near that yet). I was feeding LO dinner and he is still a little wobbly sitting on his chair. Atleast he is rolling everywhere nowadays so there has been some progress.
@Adira: @ALV91711: Me too no baby proofing yet!!
@sheskrafty: I would just use stash when needed and hopefully you can continue feeding at night.
DH wants me to stop pumping and wean. My milk supply also has gone way down in past few weeks. I have a love/hate relationship with my pump. I am sad and relieved at same time this is coming to an end for now. LO has enough freezer BM to give one bottle a day until he turns 1. I am glad though to have reached my goal

@shopaholic: Wow she is a cutie!! and we have similar halloween bib! This just reminded me I have to put it on J its October!!
bananas / 9973 posts
@Adira: @silver1: Thanks! Yup! Figured it was practically October already, so she could use the Halloween bib now!
@QueensBee: Hi There! Glad to hear your transition went well! Boo to the ear infection, but yay for the eating and crawling! I've only added foam edges to the fireplace for "baby proofing" so far. I need to order the gate to divide the room too.
@Smurfette: She's an over-achiever!
We had the 2nd day of decent solids eating! Probably about 1/2-3/4 oz! I think she's getting used to the texture. No to get her to like veggies. What green veggies are your LOs liking?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: none!! She won't touch green beans. Peas she ate the first time but twice since then she eats a couple bites and is done. I got her to eat some with sweet potatoes on the spoon too but then she caught on to that too.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: I'm still working on friggin' sweet potatoes!!! I haven't even ATTEMPTED any green veggies!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@silver1: That is awesome that you have enough to give one bottle a day until he is one. It will be nice to not have to pump anymore.
@shopaholic: We've tried green beans and peas. He seems to not mind them. He will eat more if given them at lunch instead of dinner, but that seems to be pretty much for any food. I guess he just isn't as hungry at dinner time.
Again last night he only got up twice to nurse. So much better! He did wake up at just after 11, but fussed for a couple minutes and was right back asleep. He woke up just after 5:30 and I thought he would go back to sleep. 35 min of crying later and we just got up and started our day. I do not want my day to be starting at 5am. I'm already ready for a nap!
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
The only green vegetable we've tried so far is peas and he loves them. We will try green beans probably in the next week.
Guys, I'm losing my mind. L wakes up 2 to 3 times a night having coughing fits and doesn't easily go back to sleep. I get no more than 5 to 6 broken hours of sleep. And I'm fighting the cold that he's given me. I don't know how long I can do this.. I feel like I'm at the end of my rope. My husband tries to help, but I just can't sleep when I hear him having coughing fits at the other end of the house and screaming.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: So glad to hear that tonight went well too!!! I hear you on being up at 5:30! Xander woke up at 4:50 this morning and was just babbling to himself!!! I just ignored him until 5:30, haha. But then after I nursed him at 5:30, he DID go back to sleep, luckily! I hope you both can nap soon!!!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Adira: he is nursing now and looks like he will nap. Why do babies have to get up so early? At least Xander just played nicely.
@travellingbee: I hope you are both feeling better soon. It is hard being sick and taking care of a baby.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Yeah, he usually doesn't start crying until I actually go in there and get him and put him on the changing table - then he acts like it's the end of the world!!!
I hope you're able to nap too!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: I hate the early mornings. I heard R at 515 this morning but she wasn't crying so I left her and luckily she fell back asleep. Then I had to wake her up. Which sucks.
@travellingbee: Aww! The coughing is so rough. Do you have this crib elevated? Could you skip work but send him to day care so you can get some sleep?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: I agree with @Smurfette!! If you can send him to daycare and then stay home yourself to sleep, do it!!! I just did that last week and it was GLORIOUS!!!! Being able to sleep without worrying about the baby is soooooooo wonderful! And I totally hear you on the coughing - Xander had a horrible cough about a month ago and he'd wake up just coughing and and crying - it sucked!!!
bananas / 9973 posts
@Smurfette: @Adira: Well maybe that's why K hadn't taken much to solids yet! I was trying to start her on veggies first! Though we've only done green beans since I made so much. I've given her carrots and sweet potato too. The sweet potato seems so thick and starchy, even though I kept adding and adding water to thin it. I keep forgetting about avocado. Maybe I will try that today. I read that if you don't start with the blander veggies, they will only want the sweeter stuff and won't want things like green veggies.
@ALV91711: That seems to be true here too. More solids taken in the day vs. night. Good for your improved sleeping!
@travellingbee: I need to buy peas. They seem like a sweeter green veggie. Sorry about the coughing fits. We've been battling a cold here too for over a week. Though I think I have it worse than K. Have you tried elevating one side of the crib? Probably the coughing fits are from post nasal drip? Also, do you have a humidifier in the room? I'm the one with coughing fits at night. I have to keep 2 glasses of water, the humidifier, and propped on a couple of pillows. I can't even imagine how LO would manage to expel the phlegm.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: I know I am worried she only likes sweet potatoes and carrots. And fruits too. All sweet. I am going to try a mixed veggie medley to see if she likes that. I was going to try avocado last weekend, but I forgot to tell DH and he used it all to make guacamole. I need to pick up some this weekend to try.
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@shopaholic: Our boys like green beans, but they're not big fans of green peas. They'll eat them, but only grudgingly. They don't seem to like the texture of avocados since I just mash them up and they are chunkier. So far they love sweet potatoes, butternut squash, green beans, apples, pears, & bananas.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. Blue: Can you come have E and F tell Xander that food is GOOD and he should try more than just cereal and bananas??
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@Adira: Their love of solid foods was out of nowhere! Since Finn is such a terrible bottle-eater, I've determined that he jut doesn't like milk like his mama, but loves some "real food" just like me! E wasn't into solids AT ALL until I sent them to daycare. The first day, he didn't eat much, but the second day he are the whole container for them and has never looked back. Have you sent any with him? Maybe he just knows you have the "good stuff" and would be more apt to try solids from someone else??
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Mrs. Blue: Mine is the same about avocados.
@Smurfette: Have you tried butternut squash? I bought some precut from Trader Joes and just steamed and blended and he LOVES it.
@shopaholic: We have elevated the crib, put him in the rock and play, have a humidifier going on him all night... I hate that I can really just sit there and hold him while he coughs so hard he pukes. Poor baby.
@Adira: @Smurfette: Staying home sounds lovely (although I am not good at daytime sleeping) but I really can't. I have no sick days left since I took maternity leave and I've already been home with sick baby 2 days this school year. Wah!
@ALV91711: Thanks. I hope we do too. This is the worst.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. Blue: No, I haven't sent any to daycare yet - I'm kind of scared to because one of the teachers there is pressuring me to send them and I don't really trust her not to pressure Xander to eat them, if that makes sense. I want to introduce them to him slowly at home so he's comfortable with them before I send them to daycare!
@travellingbee: Bummer you can't really stay home to sleep!! Maybe this weekend you can get your husband to be on baby duty and maybe even take him out while you sleep?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: Yes, she liked squash. I guess cause it is orange. She seems to like the orange veggies!
I feel like such a slacker, y'all are all making your purees and I am buying mine.
@Adira: Do you really think they would force him to eat them? He might do better if he sees the other kids eating them, maybe he will cave to the peer pressure.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Adira: I second sending them to school. L didn't really start taking to them until I started sending them to school. Now he is a piggy. I think it is a combo of the time of day and seeing the other kids eat.
@Smurfette: I buy more than I make. All the stuff I send to school is bought. I just made up a few big batches a couple days ago but I don't do it regularly. It just isn't worth it because, in general, he prefers the store bought!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Adira: I got half an hour. I'm sure in no time Xander will be gobbling up food.
@travellingbee: I hope you will get some time to rest this weekend.
@Smurfette: I'm only making veggies and maybe meat. I bought a bunch of jars of fruit the other day.
So far Isaac likes everything he has tried. Some things he seems to like better than others. Some days he will eat one thing and not want it the next day.
He has had: Apple, pear, carrot, sweat potato, butternut squash, avocado, banana, green beans, peas and chicken. Tonight I'm going to try parsnips. Then we will start trying some more fruits.
I think that his second tooth is going to come through any day now.
bananas / 9973 posts
@Mrs. Blue: That would be a nice perk of daycare... send the food and let them feed the baby solids!
@travellingbee: Poor guy!
@Smurfette: I'm a SAHM so I have more time to make my own food I suppose. And going to the markets makes for a nice little outing. Though I am sure I'll buy more pouches here and there to supplement! I'm going to do pouches when we travel.
@ALV91711: Wow! Your LO is a foodie connoisseur!
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
Well... I called daycare to find out how he was doing and after finding out he was inconsolable all morning, I decided to take him to the dr. Poor baby has an ear infection. Croup and then an ear infection back to back!
right now he's passed out in the car while I'm picking up his prescription at the drive-through.
