@Smurfette: But at least she's not making you worry about developmental delays!!!

@Adira: He is fine!! He passed all those tests on the video.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: haha, actually, I tested his protective reflex (or whatever it's called when you tilt them and act like you're going to drop them on their heads) and he just laughed. Maybe I wasn't threatening enough in my dropping motion??
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: ha. I don't think I tested R with that one. But she will probably like it cause she loves when we "throw" up her in the air. Or flies on my legs.
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@Adira: I like to think that just means he "secure" in your care. I still need to watch that video and test it out before their 6 mo appt Friday.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: haha, test her! Let me know how she does!
@Mrs. Blue: That's what I'm hoping it means too! Maybe I should have Hubs try to do it with him. He was just laughing his head off when I was doing it! You'll have to let me know how your boys do when/if you test them!

@Adira: BTW, DH tried to put R in the Ergo this weekend. ANd I think she is still too low for it. Her mouth was resting right on the top of it. She just looked uncomfortable.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Well, Xander seemed kind of low too, but I wasn't sure. The straps that go over my shoulders kind of were blocking his view, but supposedly they're supposed to be high enough (at least as newborns) that you can just bend your neck and kiss them on the head, and I could still do that even without the infant insert, so I was thinking it was okay? I have no idea, haha.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Was she low like this? (Picture from http://www.growingyourbaby.com/2013/03/28/celebrity-parents-love-ergobaby-giveaway/ergo-baby-carrier-blackcamel/ )
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: She was probably a little lower. He was ok that low?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yeah, I think being low is okay! Though they're supposed to be high enough that you can bend your neck and kiss the top of their heads. Can you do that with R? I think if you can and she's okay being in it, then you're fine! And I think Xander was as low as you're describing for R. He didn't seem to mind.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: oh ok. I will try again next time we are out shopping. Thanks!
I just watched the video on the Ergo website that that baby is so much bigger then R so he is sitting up super high.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yeah, I did a google image search and the bigger babies can fit so much higher, but there are pictures of smaller babies too, so I bet R's okay! As long as she's okay with it.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: She probably would have been fine. She turned her head so she could eat the fabric. Amazes how much stuff they put in their mouths.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: haha, yes, Xander was doing that too!!! And I kind of felt like he was motor-boating me since he kept turning his head back and forth and my boobs were RIGHT THERE, haha.
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@Smurfette: I've been wearing the boys in the ergo for a while, and it's been fine. I think they might be an inch or so taller than R, but should be pretty comparable. We haven't had any problems at all with their size in it.

We do lots of mixes if foods he's had before. We add new ingredients one at a time. We have tried a lot with no issues. Although, honestly, Lukas had had a day care cold since he started daycare so how would I know?? We tried chicken in Friday mixed with sweet potato and he liked it.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
We've used the ergo since he was itty bitty with no insert and he's fine. He prefers the hip carry though.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: Did you puree the chicken yourself?
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@travellingbee: Okay, that inspires me to try meats. I'm going to do try the chicken/sweet potato mixes we have next I think. Also, I feel like we have one perpetual cold/virus/infection ever since starting daycare. I'm so hoping that the second year will be better.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Smurfette: um, no. Frankly, the idea really grosses me out. Puréed meat in general grosses me out but I know it's good for him.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: I agree! Glad that you bought some and it went over ok. I will get some next time I am at the store.

@Adira: When I did the protective reflex with Isaac he just tried to eat the floor. It was funny.
@aprk: Isaac doesn't really care for finger food yet, he just wants to eat and I think right now it is too much work.
@shopaholic: I find it really hard to do two meals in a day. I feel like we are constantly on the go even if we don't leave the house.
@travellingbee: Wow, that is a lot of food. Does he still have lots of milk too?
@Mrs. Blue: That is awesome that they are eating so much. Today Isaac had one bite of lunch. But that could be because he was extremely overtired!
@Adira: That is smart about the mixes. I just went and bought a bunch of jars of fruit since nothing is in season to make. Well and making just the veggies is enough work. There sure are some interesting mixes.
@Smurfette: That must be so awesome to not have to pump today! That is so cute that she plays with an older baby. I'm sure she is going to be walking in no time.
@Smurfette: I pureed chicken the other day and I think that will be the last time I do that. It kind of grossed me out. But he likes it.

The stranger anxiety has started!!! My parents came over for dinner tonight and when I handed Xander to my mom, he just looked totally uncomfortable and then started whimpering until I took him back! And then all through dinner he kept eying my parents like them being there made him uncomfortable! Poor little guy! But I hope he's like that next time we're around Hubs' family, haha.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Aww! But too funny about DH's family. I secretly hope the same thing, don't tell my DH!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I felt bad for my parents (and bad for Xander because he was obviously uncomfortable) but I LOVED the mama-loving I was getting!!!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Adira: I was going to say we aren't going through that but he has only been around us lately. I hope he does it to your hubby's family too.

@Smurfette: I would just try putting something (a small hand towel or blanket) rolled up, under her butt. I've just been using the infant insert pillow part for the past 2 months.
Also, I bought the Ergo Teething Pads, which are good, but I've also used the Baby Legs on the straps when the teething pads were in the wash. Kind of cute too. I saw that on some website.
@Adira: LOL to the motor-boating! Boo to Stanger Danger! Just more reason why they need to visit him more often!
@travellingbee: Wow! You're on meats already! I'm so behind on the feeding solids....
@ALV91711: Thanks for making me feel not so bad... I did manage to feed her solids 2xs today because I was conscious of it.
So K has been rather fussy last night and tonight. DH is positive it's from teething pain. We did give her Motrin last night and it seemed to calm her awhile, but she woke up screaming crying after 3 hours! That never happens! I wondered if the medicine wore off? How long does it last do you guys find?
So I decided to pick up a few pouches of food since they were on sale and I was feeling guilty about not bringing food out with us. I picked a Butternut Squash, since that one is harder to prep myself (well, more time-consuming). She actually ate several spoonfuls! Probably our most successful solids yet so I bought a whole butternut squash to make my own. The pouch one has cinnamon in it. Have you guys made your own food and put spices in it yet? I'm confused on how much to put in. I also bought some organic celery today and gave it to her for gnawing on and to get used to some veggie flavor. She took to it immediately! I read they shouldnt have celery once they can bite off chunks, so just wanted to put that out there.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@shopaholic: Hopefully she doesn't wake up too much tonight. I've been making my own veggies but I haven't put any spices in anything. He seems to like everything I've given him. Butternut squash was the most time consuming to make so far. Today I went and bought jars of fruit since nothing is really in season.
Tonight sleep is going pretty good. He went to bed almost an hour early since he was so tired with no problems. He woke after an hour and by the time I got to him and gave him a kiss and reminded him it was time to sleep and came back downstairs he was sleeping again. I'm hoping the rest of the night goes just as good.

@shopaholic: Mmmm celery I should try that to see if Liam likes it. I craved celery while pregnant so maybe he would take to it! We haven't added any spices to homemade food yet but I was thinking of trying it out! I just bought a bunch of different pouch flavors to try (in different combos since we are starting to move beyond the one flavor foods) so that I can replicate the flavors if he seems to like them.
@ALV91711: Sounds like a good night so far! Hope it stays that way for you! How did you cook the squash? Would you say it's worth it to just buy that one? I never cook squash but I gave Liam a pouch awhile back and he seemed to like it.
bananas / 9973 posts
@ALV91711: You must have a good eater! I understand about the fruit. The one other pouch I bought was Mangos because that is just a B* to cut up without getting all the hairy part (and IDK what to do about that for the baby). I was hoping to puree and freeze some nectarines, but prices for those have gone up already. Will check out the Farmer's Market tomorrow for more fresh fruits. Good to know you didn't add any spices. I wasn't sure if maybe that's why K liked the pouch better than what I've made so far. But then again, butternut squash is kind of naturally sweet. Yay for his sleep so far! FXd you get a good night tonight!
@dojo: LOL! You craved celery? I actually don't like celery. And both K and my hands smelled kind of peppery from handling the celery today. She mastered gnawing on it pretty quickly, so when they would kind of split too much, I would toss it and give her a new piece. I'll post a pic from my phone! I do like to look at the pouches for flavor ideas too! I'm sure I'll buy them occasionally to test flavors before I make a whole batch at home. I haven't done any blends yet, but I definitely want to make sure veggies make their way into foods and things like spinach and kale seem to be the veggie in most blended pouches!

@shopaholic: Mango would be hard. I didn't see any just mango at the store we went to, but the selection wasn't that great.
I steamed the squash and that was a pain. If I did it agai I would roast it in the oven and see if that us easier.
I like making all the veggies separately and then I figure I can defrost a couple different cubes at a time to defrost.
bananas / 9973 posts
@ALV91711: Yeah. All the pouches I got were Plum Organics because I didn't see any additives in the ingredients. So for the mangoes, it was just mangoes and water.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: How cute!! At least she put the celery in her mouth. R puts everything in her mouth but food. She wants purees fed to her.
@ALV91711: How did last night go?
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: good. He went to bed easy, woke up at 10:30 and fussed/whined for 10 min. Got up 2 times to nurse. He is up early today since he went to bed early last night. I slept better too.
I don't think it will be long before he drops his first night feeding , but for now the goal was to get him back to getting up twice.

@ALV91711: Glad that it went good. And you got some decent sleep!!

@smurfette: I have a weaning question for you...do you still have any frozen breast milk? If so, are you saving any or using it all up now?
