March Mamas & Babies: 1/3 Done!

@shopaholic: haha, yeah, a lot of what Xander eats just ends up on his bib (and hands and shirt and high chair...), but he definitely seems to be getting better at actually eating and swallowing food!

@Mrs. Blue: Wow, 7-5 is an awesome stretch!!! Hopefully they do it again for you soon!!

@shopaholic: K's naps sound like Xander's. He might have one long nap and then the rest are short catnaps! But that's awesome she's been sleeping in the crib!!

So Xander slept TEN HOURS last night!!! 9:30 - 7:30!!! Although I did hear him wake up a couple times during the night, but he was able to fall back to sleep on his own! My boobs were protesting though - they were FULL. I hope this long sleep stretch doesn't mess up my supply...

@Adira: That is an awesome stretch of sleep! It must have been nice to get to sleep in a bit.

@ALV91711: It was AMAZING! I actually got up at 5:30 to feed him because I heard him stirring, but when I finally went into his room, he was back asleep! So I went back to sleep too! I practically got nine hours of sleep myself with only a couple short interruptions!!! I feel so rested!

@ALV91711: We buy the baby food jars so sometimes I forget to taste before and then just taste leftovers. Most of food is quite tasty though. (we get Earth's best)
@Mrs. Blue: @Adira: Thatz a great stretch!! Hope all March babies continue this trend of STTN!!

Looks like we have had some successful STTN this weekend for the March babies! Here's hoping they all catch on to this glorious trend!

Pete's favorite toy is officially the dog's water bowl. Luckily, our dog has been off vacationing in Vermont with my parents this week so his bowl has been empty, but Pete crawls towards it as soon as he spots it and then delightfully bangs it against the floor for as long as we will let him. It's shiny (stainless steel) and makes a ton of noise. He's enthralled. Of course he prefers it to all his expensive baby toys! Future percussionist?

@QueensBee: That is so cute with the water bowl. Isaac really likes to play with any tupperware I give him while we are in the kitchen.

The last few days he seems super aware of everything and wants everything. Open a cupboard while holding him and he wants to touch it. Take a drink of water near him and he wants my glass.

I hope tonight is good for all the babies. Isaac woke up a few minutes after going to sleep and cried for 50 minutes before falling asleep. Every time I checked on him he calmed down, but then would start right back up again as soon as I left the room. I hope he sleeps well, I'm exhausted.

@Adira: Right? I feel like all these other March babies are gobbling up their solids and mine plays a game of "let's get our fingers in the spoon and get it everywhere but in my mouth!" I don't really mind if she's not ready for solids yet, but I feel lazy and guilty about giving it to her regularly. We did do green beans again tonight, though I can't tell if she even downed 1/2 oz. Glad you got such a nice stretch of sleep last night!

@QueensBee: Yikes! Is there any way to corral that area off when the bowls are full? There were too many things to worry about in our family/dinette area, also where the dog bowls and computer wires are... I just ended up dividing the whole room in half with a gate.

So naps today were a hit & miss. Over 1 1/2 hours in the crib for her first nap! I had to tell my parents we could go out to eat lunch with them because I wanted to get that nap in. In exchange, I promised to take her down to visit after her nap, which resulted in 4 hours of awake time and a 20 min. car nap. She woke up before I even got home. And that was it. No other naps of the day. At least the first one was great, but I could not get her to nap at all while we were out.

Ughh last night was awful. Pete's sleep is SO inconsistent! On Saturday night he slept from 7pm to 7am. Of course it was my husband's night to be in charge of any night wakings. Last night, when it was my turn, he woke up at 2:30am to nurse. Then he woke up again at 3:30am and I stuck a pacifier in his mouth. Then, he woke up at 4:15am and could not fall back asleep. I tried bringing him into bed with me, nursing him, letting him CIO for a bit, nothing. He just screamed and screamed until 5:45am when I passed him off to DH so I could shower. Why? why? why? He finally fell asleep on DH's chest at 6am and they are still snoozing like that now. This was not the way the I wanted to start off the work week!

Looking at the bright side, I had plenty of time to get ready for work this morning since I was up so early. And I may even get to work on time for the first day in weeks...

@ALV91711: How was your night? Did Isaac end up settling down after his early wakings? It's so cute to see them noticing their surroundings these days. And it's so classic that these babies prefer items like water glasses, dog bowls, and tupperwares to all the baby toys!

@shopaholic: We've babyproofed the dining room area so when the bowls are full, I can gate Pete in the dining room and he can do his thing without getting into too much trouble. Aside from the bowls and tv wires, the whole first floor is babyproofed for a little crawler. But, I have no idea what to do about all the wires in the living room other than gate it off. I wish there was a better solution so Pete could enjoy the living room too!

@QueensBee: sorry you had a bad night. We are on our third nursing session right now (5:30) and I really hope he goes back to sleep. I don't get why they did so good at the beginning of the weekend and not so good last night.

Yesterday I bought Isaac a little ball. I was showing him how to roll it back and forth between us and apparently this was the funniest thing ever. He was laughing so hard it was adorable.

@shopaholic: K and Xander should just hang out together, not eating!

Sorry to hear the naps didn't go well for you! Xander can be hit or miss like that sometimes too. Some days I'll pick him up from daycare only to discover that he's been awake for FIVE HOURS!!!! Why won't these babies just SLEEP???

@QueensBee: UGH! Sorry to hear that your night was so rough! It was like Pete knew you were in charge and wanted to see you, so he woke up a bunch! How had his naps been during the day? Do you think his nap could have contributed to how he slept last night?

@ALV91711: Awww, that ball bit is so cute!!!! Did he actually seem to know how to roll it back? That's awesome how much fun he was having!

  11. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: not really. I'd roll it into his lap and then he would lean forward so that the ball would roll off.

@Adira: That was a great stretch of sleep! I wish R would sleep in like that on the weekends.

@QueensBee: haha! R loves my Southern Living magazine more then any of her toys.

@shopaholic: Sorry about naps. At least she got one in during the morning. R had days that she is up 4, sometimes 5 at day care too. So frustrating, cause I can see how tired she is.

@QueensBee: I am sorry!! So frustrating when one night they sleep so good and then the next they don't.

@ALV91711: Sorry you had a bad night.

Teething round 2 has begun!! Big old white spot this morning where her top right tooth is. We were at a 1st bday party yesterday and she got a little baby doll carrier that is a walker. And R loved standing up with it. She isn't trying to cruise but she loves to stand and hold to something.

@Smurfette: OMG, you're getting MORE teeth???? I hope Xander doesn't get more yet! I'm just getting used to the idea of the first two!! And it sounds like R would love a little walker or something like that!!!

@Adira: I know! Her teacher was like top teeth and she isn't 7 months yet?!!? But she will be 7 months on Friday. Which DH and I both said this weekend, didn't she just turn 6 months. Going so fast. Our friends told us we could borrow their walker, but just had to check that someone else didn't want it now. Otherwise I am going to order one on amazon. I was hoping to save it for the Christmas list!

@Adira: Yay!! and knock on wood, I haven't gotten bit in a couple weeks. I think once they get use to them it doesn't happen.

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Oh hey, that reminds me - how is your supply now that you've weaned during the day? Do you still nurse morning and night? What do you do on the weekends?

  23. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: It seems to be ok. She nurses in the morning and then doesn't eat for 3 more hours like normal. She nurses at night and then doesn't eat till she wakes up at 6-7. I don't feel full at all so I was worried it had tanked, but she seems fine. I think next week I am going to drop the morning session. Thinking it will be easier to go all day while at work and not having to hold her all the time.

@ALV91711: Oh my gosh, the ball rolling sounds so cute. Baby laughter is the best!

@Smurfette: Wow, two more teeth! Does R seem to have any favorite teething strategies or toys? Our daycare says that Pete like to chew on frozen rings when he's there but he doesn't really show an interest in them at home.

@Adira: His naps were crummy yesterday so that could have been the culprit. We left the house at 10am to start our day of house hunting and didn't return until 6pm! He took some catnaps in the car but no restful crib naps. I really hope he bounces back tonight and his sleep is better. Of course, it's my husband's night to be in charge anyway. Haha makes me so pissed when he sleeps like a log for DH!!

  27. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@QueensBee: She doesn't really like anything. She chews on Sophia when we are in the car, cause it is strapped on there. But that is only for like 5 mins. She puts everything in her mouth but teething rings.

  28. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@QueensBee: That is a long day of house hunting. We did that on Saturday but only for a couple hours. Hopefully he goes back to sleeping better.

I'm actually surprised Isaac is napping at all today. A new furnace is being put in and they are pretty noisy. But he has been cuddled with me, so that probably helps.

  29. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@QueensBee: I blame the naps! Hopefully tonight will be better!!!

@ALV91711: Aww, now I want to cuddle Xander!!

  30. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: I'm so bad, I keep saying I'm going to work on getting him to nap in his crib/nap train. But I just don't have the energy. And I just love the snuggles. Plus then I can nap or just rest. But I really should get him napping on his own.

  31. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: Originally, I was all over getting Xander to nap on his own and nap in his crib and stuff, but then as it got closer and closer to me going back to work, I decided all his naps were going to be in my arms because I knew I wouldn't get very many after I returned to work!! Do what works for you, lady!

@QueensBee: Sorry about Pete's sleep! I feel like we've kind o taken a step back in sleep too - often having 2 wake-ups to feed these days with one STTN the whole night about 1x a week. Sounds good that you've baby-proofed a whole floor already!

@ALV91711: Awww... cute! One of K's favorite toys is a little jingly balls!

@Adira: @Smurfette: Seriously... she's went 5 hrs today before I got her down for a nap. Refused to nap outside of the house today.

    @Smurfette: Wow! R is just go-go-go! Teeth and a walker/standing!

K turned 7 months yesterday, still no teeth, apparently shrunk in height, and got her first round of Flu shots and a a Dtap shot today. 15 lbs 7 oz. and 26.3" She's been trying to pull herself up using the bars on our baby gate and the jumper. I think she doesn't care about crawling at all and just wants to stand.

R said Dada tonight. Over and over. Mix of emotions so happy and exciting! Sad cause DH wasn't home, I got it on video for him. But I think she is a traitor though! I am with her more, why didn't she say Mama!!!

But I had so much fun tonight with her.

  34. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@shopaholic: what do you mean she shrunk?? I heard some babies skip crawling and go right to walking!

  35. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@shopaholic: haha, she probably didn't shrink! I bet whoever measured him either didn't take an accurate measurement this time or didn't last time! Xander didn't grow nearly as much as we expected at his appointment either so I'm pretty sure (and the pediatrician agreed) that both last time's and this time's measurements are wrong.

  36. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@shopaholic: @Adira: 's posts reminds me, at R's 6 month appointment the pedi thought maybe the nurse didn't stretch out R all the way. She was going to remeasure her and we got talking and forgot. I bet they just messed up today.

  37. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@shopaholic: I doubt she shrank. I find the measurement very incissistant. My ped always remeasures as she doesn't trust the nurses to do it correctly and she always gets a taller measurement.

@Smurfette: I can't believe she said dada. That is awesome that you were able to record it for him. Isaac is always saying adad, too cute. I wish mama was easier for them to say.

Poor dude was so tired when he went to bed today. He went to sleep fine at 7, then woke up a few minutes later and cried for 35 minutes. I hope he has a nice long stretch. I'm going to go to bed now and try and fall asleep early.

Tomorrow is a busy day. We are going to make an offer on our first home!! I'm so excited and nervous. We haven't told anyone yet, we want to wait until we have something accepted. It would be so awesome to have Isaac's first Christmas in our own place.

  38. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@Smurfette: @Adira: @ALV91711: LOL. I know she didn't actually shrink. I guess her measurement must have been wrong last time. She measured 1" shorter today than her last visit, and I asked the nurse to re-measure her - which got closer to last visit - 26.5". I guess growth is slowing down now.

@Smurfette: @ALV91711: K only says "dada" too. Stinker! She's been saying it for 2 months almost and started saying "lala", but no "mama" yet.

Ok, I'm super behind here but here is an update on Vi!

    - She says three words clearly now. "Mama", "Baba" (our word for DH), and "Nana". She's also said "Hi" when I walked into the room but it's only happened twice so I'm not sure if it was a fluke.

    - She crawls really well, pulls to a sit, and as of today, pulls to a stand and takes little steps along the furniture! I have a feeling she'll be walking WAY earlier than I anticipated.

    - She has eaten banana, avocado, green beans, pears, sweet potatoes, and broccoli. She liked them all. This week we're planning on adding butternut squash and boiled egg yolks.

    - Her two bottom teeth are in, and I can feel her top two. She's been fussy and chews on everything, so I think they are on their way in very soon.

    - Her nighttime sleep is still very good, but her naps are hit and miss. We get great naps some days (like yesterday) and terrible ones other days (like today, where she woke up after five minutes both times).

Overall she's very happy and giggly, but a little clingy and is starting to show a little stranger anxiety but I know that's normal at this age, so I'm not worried.
