@shopaholic: Yay!! Waving!!! I wonder if Xander waves because he does this thing where he rotates his hand back and forth and sometimes it's with his arm out so it looks like he's waving, but other times it's just random, so I don't know!

Glad to hear you're having some success feeding K! I need to feed Xander more finger foods!

@ALV91711: How did you do the carrots? Did he nap today?

@shopaholic: So glad that y'all are having fun. That is awesome that she waved. I try and get R to do it and nothing.

Today was the best pick up! R was sitting in the high chair table just finished her Mum Mum snack. She saw me and started jumping up and down, and squealing cause she was so excited to see me. DAY MADE!!

She ate her small container of pears for dinner and then I thought that I would see how she did with a banana. And she ate almost all of the half. Granted half probably ended up all over the high chair and in her bib. So cute. I must remember to roll up her sleeves next time.

@Smurfette: YAY!!!! So jealous of how excited R was to see you!!! I can't wait for Xander to act like this! So far he just looks at me and then goes back to whatever he was doing, the little jerk!

Ok ladies. Smurfette requested an update on A since I have been MIA around the boards lately Little dude is taking up all my energy - we've been so busy!

He is cruising around the furniture in the living room, and practicing standing up without holding onto anything. I'd estimate that he bangs his head on the floor or something hard at least 10 times per day, haha. He doesn't seem too phased , though. His sleep is hit or miss, and his naps are getting a little but more predictable. I am so thankful for the weekends when my husband is home and I can nap or just zone out on the couch for a little bit

He is quite possibly the happiest kid I've ever seen - constant smiles and giggles. It's so awesome. His grin is infectious.

He is starting to respond to some sign language, which is so cool. When I sign "milk" he makes a really exited noise and comes over to me and claws at my shirt SO FAST. It's hilarious. He also really loves to nurse while standing up or climbing all over me. What a little weirdo

Hope you all are doing well!!

@aprk: Yay!!! I missed little A!! Too funny that he doesn't seem phased when banging his head. Any tips on the sign language? Day care started it and we are trying at home but she doesn't seem to be getting it.

@aprk: Great update! So happy to hear A is doing well! And I'm so impressed that you guys are making the sign language work!

@Smurfette: Love that image of R greeting you today. What a treat! She loves her mama!

@Shopaholic: Wow, sounds like the time change went really well. And I love that K is eating such fancy foods! A little gourmand!

Pete is having some diarrhea issues this week. He pooped eight times today, which resulted in a mild diaper rash. He was awake at 3:30am pooping this morning and never went back to sleep. Poor little guy (and poor mommy!). The ped thinks that it's probably a virus that will take 7-10 days to clear up but I feel like it could be due to all the solids I've been giving him. So, I gave him only rice, broth, and banana for dinner tonight and I'm going to take it easy on the veggies this week. It's always something with these babies!

  8. aprk

    pomegranate / 3452 posts

@Smurfette: he "cries" for maybe a second but just really wants to keep playing, so he just moves on. As for the sign language I've just picked a couple of signs to start with and just repeat them a lot when I say them. We do milk, all done, more and eat. I'm gonna start doing diaper change, too. I think they "get" it before we can really tell. And it takes a lot longer for them to be able to sign back anyway.

Oh! I forgot to mention that he loves his food, too. In fact, he gobbles up things with cumin, curry, turmeric and ginger so much that he won't eat plain oatmeal. I have to load it up with cinnamon, hah!

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@QueensBee: Aww poor P! I hope he gets sleep tonight and the diarrhea goes away. Especially you have such a busy week. Seriously I wish I got her on video. It was so adorable!
@aprk: when do you think he will start walking?

  11. aprk

    pomegranate / 3452 posts

@Smurfette: walking, hmm. I've watched my friends' older babies and it seems like it takes a couple of months once they find their legs. But, he seems to be a quick study, so maybe some steps by Christmas??

  12. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@aprk: I thought R would maybe be by Christmas but she seems happy just standing. Isn't really cruising yet. She will walk if we hold her hands or hold her hands on the walker. I think once day care gets one it will help her pick it up. Her "boyfriend" at day care was walking at 8 months so A could be!!

@aprk: Yay!!! So glad to hear an update from you and to hear things are going well! A is soooooo adorable!!! Love that picture of him! I'm so impressed with how mobile he is! I'm jealous, haha. Or maybe I'm not... Xander's pretty safe to leave unattended! And I'm so impressed with all the spices you've introduced to A!! I haven't done ANYTHING like that!!!

@QueensBee: Poor Pete!!! Sorry to hear that he's sick and pooping up a storm and it's affecting his sleep and yours! I hope he feels better soon for you!

@shopaholic: That is so cute that she is waving. Hope you had a good trip home. How does K do with the time difference when you travel?

@Smurfette: I cut up carrot sticks and steam them. Yes he had a couple short naps yesterday, better than nothing. That is awesome that R was so excited to see you.

@aprk: Good to have and update from you. Glad that you and A are doing well. Sounds like he will be walking soon. Wow! Does he have any teeth yet?

@QueensBee: That is an early start to the day. I hope that he is feeling better and is able to get some sleep tonight.

@Adira: I think not being mobile yet has its advantages, as nice as it will be once they get moving.

The only sign Isaac knows is milk. He doesn't do it, but he gets really happy when I do it and he knows that is what he is getting.

I think I'm really going to actually have to start with some finger foods. Isaac really has liked feeding himself puffs the last couple days. I'm just not sure where to start. I think we are going to have to start doing breakfast soon too. Next grocery shop I'm going to get him some oatmeal and yogurt and then start. I just kind of dread it as it will make our days so much busier.

  15. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@ALV91711: I have a bag of baby carrots, do you think I can just steam those? Then slice them in half and she would be ok eating them that way?

  16. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Smurfette: I don't see why not. Much easier than peeling and cutting. I'm thinking this afternoon of steeming up some veggies to put in the fridge for the next couple days. Then I don't have a reason to not give him any.

I'm kind if looking forward to when he just eats what we are having, it will be so much easier.

@QueensBee: Oh no poor Pete hope he feels better soon and you can get some rest!
@Adira: J doesn't go anywhere either. I can leave him on floor and all he does is roll around but pretty much in same location. I am kinda excited for him become mobile but not at all the running around after him!
@ALV91711: Awesome!! I am looking forward to when LO is eating and pooping by himself
J screeches happily all the time and DH jokes the zombies will find him. So one evening he starts his high-pitch screeching and I say to LO the zombies are coming and promptly scared myself! No more mention from me.

How many naps do your babies take? Xander usually has 3 (though he had FOUR yesterday) and I'm soooooo ready to go to 2 naps! So sick of him having to take a nap as soon as we get home from daycare!

And how long are they usually awake between sleeping (whether overnight or naps)?

  22. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@ALV91711: She adjusted pretty much the 2nd day we were in Hawaii. She would wake up still close to her normal at-home time. We got back super late last night and she woke up at her normal time this morning. Overall, I would say she just slept an hour or two less each day, but she is catching up on her nap this morning!

@aprk: Great update! He's so adorable! Can't believe he is cruising already!

@Adira: K still needs 3 naps. If she misses her last one, it's pretty rough on me. I would only want to go down to 2 naps a day IF she starts sleeping longer! 2 (20-40 min.) naps a day might kill me!

We are back! K was a delight on the plane for everyone around us. Everyone loved her and she was climbing over seat backs to smile and play with everyone. Of course, she barely napped on the plane (45 min. in 5 hours), but to be fair, the toddler next to us screaming woke her up. She passed out in the car (yay!) and woke up as normal today. But I know was tired from her very late bedtime (~11:30) and actually fell asleep on her own in the crib today for a nap! I went to take out her trash and came back, she was curled up. I let her just roll around and she fell asleep on her own after 15-20 min.! No boob! Of course, I don't believe it'll last. I'm sure it's because she only slept 9.5 hrs.

@shopaholic: Welcome back!!! I think I'm going to have to drill you for details because I really want to go on a vacation with Hubs and Xander so I'll need to know what you did, what your brought, how you dealt with naps, etc!

@Adira: 3 or 4, every day. She doesn't nap long enough to move to 2 naps. Yesterday she napped 15 mins on the way to day care, 40mins, 30mins, and 40 mins on the way home. And she was still exhausted. This time change is killing me and took away my happy baby. She just isn't herself at all this week.

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Aww, I hope she adjusts soon!! Maybe this weekend you'll be able to get her adjusted to the time change! Poor baby!

@Adira: Just about a week ago Isaac went to 2 naps, but he is so tired by bedtime that he should still have 3, but I can't get him to. This week has been horrible with one or none.

Usually he wakes up then about 3 hours later a short nap and then 3 hours after that maybe an hour nap and then it is about 4 hours until bed time. His short nap is 30-45 min. Usually he is up between 6-7am but this week it has been 5am.

@shopaholic: That is awesome that she adjusts so easily and travels so well.

Went to old navy today to shop for Isaac and didn't buy him anything but spent a bunch on myself and DH. All the things I saw online that I wanted weren't in the store. So tomorrow morning I will have to order them online.

I'm finding it harder and harder to keep up with updating. I read most things, because I can on my phone at random times, but I absolutely hate typing more than a few words on my phone and I rarely get a chance to actually log on to my computer and type. Anyway.... here's our update:

L has yet another ear infection. He's been a miserable baby the past few days. We've started him on antibiotics again and we have been referred to an ENT. The doctor thinks he should probably get tubes. Sadness.

Although he's been miserable, he is still making leaps in his development. He's started doing the subtlest new thing-- he "puts" things places deliberately. (Like, he purposely dropped a piece of toast off of his highchair yesterday. He put his pacifier in between the slats of the baby gate. He tried to put a toy into his crib-between the slats). He's started crawling on his hands and knees, but still prefers his belly crawl as he goes faster that way. He is pulling up on lots of things and yesterday he figured out he could cruise a little on the edge of the couch to get to a book. His pincer grasp is getting much better. He also likes to play "catch" rolling the ball back and forth with us. And he claps now (sort of?) and says "AHHHH" while doing it which sounds a lot like "Yaaaaaaaaaay!" And he got his top two teeth. I can't remember if I mentioned that last week. He got them last Thursday, I think. He seems like such a big boy that it makes me a little sad.

@Smurfette: So cute that she was excited to see you! Good eater R! Lukas still doesn't love bananas. He's a weird baby.
@aprk: He is adorable and it is wonderful that he is so happy. L also knows the sign for milk. He does a little happy dance when I do it. We are working on "more". And what an adventurous eater you have! We've only done cinnamon and vanilla.
@QueensBee: There's been a nasty diarrhea bug going around L's school. He had it over the weekend and that led into this coughing/ear infection thing afterwards. The dr. said half the city has diarrhea right now! Sorry to hear that Pete is sick.
@shopaholic: Sounds like a great trip and flight! Glad it all worked out well. Your pictures were wonderful!
@Adira: L takes either 2 or 3 naps. We started to notice that if he slept after 4 at all, he won't go to bed. We were up until 10 with him one night and finally we said, "no more late afternoon naps!" When he's at school, he takes good naps usually so 2 will do.
@ALV91711: I went to Old Navy today too! We only got some socks. The baby socks were 50 cents each. L had outgrown all of his old socks.

Phew! Sorry that was so long!

@Adira: J takes 2 naps - morning one about 1.5 hours and afternoon one about 45 min-1 hour. I try to keep him awake in evening. He could go down for 3rd nap about 30 min but then would stay up late night..
@ALV91711: I love to buy things at store but end up online as they don't have enough variety for lo boy clothes.

@ALV91711: I think Halloween and all the commotion on the 2nd night kept her awake and made the transition easier.

@travellingbee: I hear you. It's hard to go back pages and keep up. Boo on the ear infection again. Yay for all the developmental milestones! I'm finding K is learning so much every day now too!

So K turned 8 months yesterday and the past few days have just been filled with new things! It's so much fun seeing her learn and grow! We see the top of one tooth now, and boy is that thing sharp! She is really waving now, though I can never catch it on video. And she learned how to suck the water out of the straw during our trip. So today I put the Zoli near her, and she kept repeatedly grabbing it and drinking the water out of it! I think she drank at least 1/3 of the cup! Going to order another one. This time period seems so challenging, with the wanting to be mobile, but not quite. Teething, whining, and always squirming. BUT, it's also really fun and fascinating to see these little humans grow and mature! Ah! Bittersweet!

And we have started getting invites for 1 year old birthday parties for our mommy & me groups! Crazy!!!

@travellingbee: Poor L!! Sorry you are going to have to get tubes but hopefully it will help get rid of the infections. Sounds likes he is doing great otherwise. To cute he plays catch!
@shopaholic: Amazing how sharp those teeth are, huh!! They can hurt when they bite you. So cute she waves! I can't wait for R to do this. That is great she is drinking water. I can't get R to drink it.

@aprk: Oh no!!! Why is he waking up so often? Is it because of teething? Or maybe working on a new skill??

@travellingbee: Awww, sorry to hear L has another ear infection!!! Poor baby!!! That's awesome how much he's growing though! I can't believe he plays catch with you! We try that with Xander, but when we roll a ball to him, he just picks it up and plays with it or throws it in another direction, haha. He won't roll it back! And yay for clapping! That's so fun!

@shopaholic: Happy 8 Months K!!! They grow up too darn fast! That's awesome that she's figured out how the straw works now! Sometimes I think that's Xander's favorite part about eating food - he seems to love water!

@aprk: Whoa, I love that he enjoys so many spices! We have only given Pete cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and garlic. You are inspiring me to take it up a notch!

@travellingbee: I feel the same way about the busy March thread! I love that it's so busy because it always gives me something to read on my phone, but i have trouble finding time to sit at a computer and write a response back. I'm so sorry to hear that Lukas is battling another ear infection. So great that he's not letting it stop his development though. I love that he now places objects with purpose. Amazing!

@Smurfette: Pete still hasn't quite adjusted to the time change either. Although he goes to sleep at the same time as before, he's been waking up at 5-5:30am which is about an hour too early for us. I hope they both can get back on schedule soon!

@Adira: 11 hours is amazing! He must have been such a happy rested baby this morning! I noticed yesterday that Zulily has come cute holiday outfits/pjs for infants. Perhaps you can find some comfy and festive clothes for him there?

@shopaholic: Happy 8 months to K! The straw is a big accomplishment! Can she teach Pete how to do that?

Pete's tummy issues seems to have settled down. Only three poopy diapers yesterday, which is normal for him. Yippee! However, I had to stay at school late last night so I didn't get to see him at all after I left for work in the morning. So tough, I missed the little guy!

He's starting to stand more and more, but his legs are always spread so far out, like he's about to do a split at any moment. Still not a lot of babbling yet although he was a tiny bit chattier this morning. According to my MIL, my husband didn't say a peep until his was 18 months and then one day, he started speaking in complete sentences. So perhaps he takes after his dad...

@Smurfette: 7:30 - 6:30 and I was AMAZED! I even woke up at 5:30 and was so confused as to why he was still sleeping! I feel so refreshed this morning! Hopefully R will get used to the time change soon and go back to sleeping in a bit!

@QueensBee: Thanks for the Zulily tip! I'll check them out! Glad to hear Pete's feeling better!! That's really interesting about your husband! It would definitely make sense if Pete takes after him in the talking department!
