@QueensBee: any spice except salt is good in my book

Isaac did great with sleep last night. 6:45pm to 6:45am and he only got up once at 4:50am. I wish I had slept that good. I woke up about 3:30 and didn't sleep very good after that. But I do feel more rested today. I hope this means good naps today and good sleep at night again.

@travellingbee: Hope the ear infection clears up fast. I can't believe all his new skills. Isaac loves to roll his little ball with me.

@silver1: I just spent $60 online for Isaac. Well one thing is for my sister who is pregnant. And I still need to figure out an outfit for him for our family photos next week.

@shopaholic: Happy 8 months!! That is awesome that she is using a straw cup. I haven't tried that yet.

@Adira: Awesome sleep! It feels good to have a good sleep yourself too.

@aprk: I hope that he stops the 2 hour wake ups fast. That is way too tiring.

@Smurfette: I hope she figures her sleep out this weekend and gets back to normal.

@QueensBee: Glad his tummy is better.

@aprk: We haven't used any spices in anything. I guess we could start.

@Smurfette: As much as I REALLY don't want to wake him up in the morning, I probably will continue to wake him to nurse! He's MUCH more efficient at getting milk out of my boobs than my pump is, so it's better for me to nurse him. Plus I'd be worried about him waking up hungry after I already left for work and my husband having to deal with bottles (and me pumping more) in the morning. So I think it would just be easier for everyone if I continue to nurse him!

@Adira: I would do the same if I were you. Just hopefully on the weekends he will sleep later.

This butt scooting is getting to be serious business. He can now turn directions and get a good few feet. It is so cute!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

@QueensBee: Awww... that would be depressing. Hopefully you can have lots of QT with him this weekend!

@Adira: Yay for the 11 hours of sleep! I understand about nursing. I would rather K wake up for a nursing session in the MOTN than have to pump to keep up supply or feel engorged.

My goodness ladies! K had 2 - two hour naps today! UNHEARD OF! I actually kept worrying if she was still breathing! And she slept over 12 hours last night for the first time in forever! Wondering if it's a growth spurt, or if she's just catching up on all the sleep she missed on our trip (when she was doing 9-9.5 hrs.)

Holy smokes, girls, he's been asleep for 11.5 hours and is STILL SLEEPING!!! What the what!!!

@shopaholic: YAY!!!! So glad to hear K had two good naps today!!! Hopefully it's not a fluke and she'll realize this napping thing is GREAT and keep doing it!

    @shopaholic: that is great!
    @Adira: that is great!!

We put R to bed at 6, asleep by 615, and still woke up at 530. I am going to cry if this is how it is till March and the time changes again. We got NO time together after we got home, other then bath.

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Aww, so sorry to hear that R's sleep is just not working out for you!! What time did her bedtime used to be? 7:00? Hopefully her naps work out today that you can put her to bed at a more normal time instead of early and HOPEFULLY she'll get the memo about the time change!

@Adira: yep! She normally fell asleep 645-700. This sucks.

What time did Xander wake up?

@shopaholic: That is awesome sleep. Hope that she did good last night.

@Adira: Go Xander!! What time did he eventually wake up?

@Smurfette: That sucks. I hope she figures it out this weekend and gets back on track.

Isaac had another great night of sleep. Basically the exact same as the night before. I could get used to this. But now I know I have to get him some breakfast food when I grocery shop tomorrow. With sleeping so long he has added another morning nursing session.

@Adira: @ALV91711: Maybe Xander, Isaac, and Kaitlyn are both having growth spurts? FX'd it is and the good sleep continues! K slept almost 12.5 hrs again last night!

@Smurfette: @ALV91711: Thanks! We're on her first nap, over an hour now, WITH the cleaners in the house! DH was shocked!

@Smurfette: Yay for a good nap! Have fun with pics today - can't wait to see them!

Gave K some baked salmon last night. She kind o gagged/choked on it a couple of times. I think it was too dry. Not like the yellowtail fish I gave her in Hawaii - more moist and steamed. I haven't given any meat yet because I worry most o them have salt, pepper, sauces, etc.

Just got home after spending 4+ hours in the ER. Xander had a fairly serious allergic reaction to the strawberry yogurt I gave him. Now I have an epipen for him.

  16. QueensBee

    pear / 1718 posts

@Adira: Omg, that's so scary! Poor Xander and poor mama! Big hugs! Can I ask what the reaction was? How did you know something was seriously wrong?

  17. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@QueensBee: He had a pretty immediate reaction. His mouth, cheeks, and neck turned bright red and he started scratching at his throat and whimpering. The yogurt got on his hands and his hands turned red and broke out in hives. Then he started sneezing, coughing, and crying. I called the pediatrician (thinking they'd just have us give him some benadryl) and they told us to go to the ER. Although he seemed to have calmed down by the time we got there, his breathing was labored and his skin continued to turn red (arms, belly, diaper area). It was pretty scary.

  18. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@shopaholic: It is hard knowing what to give them or not. I have to come up with more ideas since Isaac seems to only want to feed himself these last couple of days.

@Adira: That would be so scary. Hope he is doing good now and hope that you are too. What happened for you to know to take him to the hospital?

I have such an overtired baby today. Short morning nap and almost no afternoon nap. Now I'm just hoping he can make it until 6 for bath time.

  19. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: Oh my, that would be so scary.

  20. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: We're home and he's currently sleeping. I have to wake him up soon to give him another dose of benadryl (and then again in 6 hours). Not looking forward to that, but by the time we came home from the hospital, his breathing was fine and his skin had totally cleared up, so I think he's probably okay now.

I just threw out everything I had that contained strawberries or yogurt! I'm hoping we can see an allergist soon to determine what he's actually allergic to. I'm so surprised he has a food allergy since Hubs and I aren't allergic to anything. And now I'm a little nervous about daycare since I've had issues with our daycare lady feeding him without our permission...

  21. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: That sucks that you will have to wake him up. I hope he goes right back to sleep. You will have to stress the importance to daycare of not giving him anything you haven't tried and I really hope they listen to you.

Isaac and I just watched videos of Xander to keep him happy until as close to bedtime as possible. He was pretty happy since I normally don't let him watch anything.

  22. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: I'm hoping maybe Hubs will just stay up and give him his dose at 1:45 so I can sleep and then I'll get up with him in the morning! He seemed to like the taste of the Benadryl, so hopefully he doesn't mind being woken too much and can go right back to sleep! And I really hope daycare listens to me! I'm going to Hubs stress to them in the morning that he has an allergy and I'll probably call too to make sure they know now to give him anything! Ugh, what a mess!

Awww, that's so cute that you show Isaac videos of Xander! I'm glad he finds them amusing!!

  23. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: OMG!! I am so glad that he is ok! That has to be so scary. He broke out immediately? Are you getting him tested for allergies now? How do you even do that? Has he had yogurt or strawberries before?

Well R was so sleepy today. We got stuck in construction traffic on the way to pictures, so she slept 50 mins there. She was cold during pictures, even though it wasn't cold out, nose was runny, spit up twice (the last time was so bad we had to go to the backup outfit). We had to work to get her to smile, so I can't wait to see if she got any good ones. She cried pretty much the whole way home. We skipped dinner of solids and bath, gave a bigger bottle, and she in her crib and asleep by 6.

I just wish there was something to do to help her get adjusted to this time change. She just doesn't seem like herself at all, so tired.

  24. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yep, his reaction was pretty much within a couple minutes of him starting to eat the yogurt! At first I wasn't sure what was happening, but he was turning red and scratching at his throat and I realized he was having a reaction! I want to get him tested for allergies, but I'll have to call my pediatrician and see when we can do that. The ER ped doctor said they don't usually like to test them this young because it's not super accurate! So I guess we'll see. I'm going to call our pediatrician tomorrow to see if I can get an appointment for Monday or Tuesday. He's never had yogurt before but he had strawberries once in an apple/banana/strawberry mix (which he really seemed to like).

Awww, poor R!!! Sorry to hear the pictures didn't go well! I'm sure your photographer was able to get some good shots though! Those photogs are amazing! And bummer she went to bed so early... sounds like you're in for an early morning again.

  25. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: That is so scary!! I would have been freaking out. Was he ok the rest of the day? Nursed ok?

R has had that strawberry/apple/banana mix and loves it. Now I am going to be scared to give it to her. I think yogurt was upsetting her tummy. She has stopped spitting up in the morning since we stopped yogurt. Now doing oatmeal or half banana.

DH said that he saw a couple of the camera that she showed him and said there were some good shots. At least with the spit up, I got her in a dress. DH wanted her in jeans, so I let him choose this time. But I get full control for the 1st bday one

    pear / 1718 posts

@Adira: Oh my goodness, that sounds scary! At least the reaction happened right away so you were with him and you could get him to the doctor quickly. I hope you can pour yourself a glass of wine to try to relax tonight! Let us know what the ped says this week.

@Smurfette: Awe, sounds like an off day for R! I bet the photog was able to capture a few good ones but I'm sure you will be in suspense until you see for yourself! I really hope she can adjust soon too. It's only been a week- don't give up hope yet!

I forgot to mention that Pete is pretty much 100% weaned now. I planned on keeping a morning and evening nursing session for another month or so, but he seemed to prefer his bottle recently so I just went along with it. It's been a week since he nursed and he doesn't seem to miss it. I guess I should be happy that it was such a smooth transition, however I stepped on the scale today and I have gained six pounds in the past week or so! I actually decided to wear maternity leggings today because all my pants feel so tight, even though I had been at my pre-pregnancy weight for months. Sigh, it did inspire me to go the gym and sign up for a 15k run in December. Gotta watch what I eat now or else I need all new pants!

  27. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@QueensBee: I am stalking FB for a preview! She posted a picture of the family before us, so just waiting for Miss R to show up!

That is great that you were able to wean so smoothly. Do you miss nursing? I have moments when I do. But R is so sweet at night, only night, she turns and faces me and cuddles, like she would nursing, with that bottle. It makes me melt. Then I saw her to do tonight with DH. I was bummed, thought it was special Mom and R time oh well!
I hear you on the weight gain. I have gained weight since weaning too. I am starting a major diet. I mean right before the holidays is perfect time, right?

  28. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I think if she's had that mix multiple times, she's probably okay! I've heard the first time they have something they are allergic to, the reaction is usually pretty mild, and it's the next time that can be a lot worse (and presumably just gets worse and worse). I'm wondering if maybe Xander HAD a reaction and I just didn't notice it because it was mild? And that's why this time was so bad? Not really sure though because we don't know if the reaction was to strawberries or yogurt! He's not getting either until we figure it out!

I wonder if R has some sort of dairy intolerance and that's why the yogurt was bothering her? Glad to hear she's been better since you stopped! At least you haven't had to deal with an allergic reaction!

@QueensBee: Yes, I'm thankful that it was immediate! I shudder to think about something like this happening at daycare when we're not with him - he got some pretty powerful meds at the ER and I wonder if the daycare would have had such a quick reaction. I mean, we took him to the ER pretty immediately and he got medicine about an hour after his reaction. If this happened at daycare, would they have called us and then we'd have to drive there and get him and THEN bring him to the ER? It's scary to think about. I'm just thankful he's okay!

Oh wow! That's crazy that Pete has weaned! Are you happy to have your body back?? I'm scared of weaning because of the weight issue! I've been eating HORRIBLY and basically maintaining my weight and I know it's because of breastfeeding! I need to go on a diet before I wean, haha!!

  29. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Make sure DH tells day care on Monday about what happened, so they don't give him something you didn't approve of!

Yeah but dairy didn't seem to both her when I was nursing, so I don't know. Either way going to hold off for awhile. Now she just spits up after eating purees. Going to try cooked carrots tomorrow for lunch since we will be home.

  30. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, I'm going to have Hubs tell them Monday morning and I'll probably all to make sure they REALLY know! So far since they've started feeding him purees, they've been good about not giving him anything too interesting. Just apples, pears, carrots, etc - the basics! But I do know that there are strawberry puffs, so I need to make sure they don't give him any of those!

I was actually going to try cooked carrots too! Xander doesn't really eat any finger food and I want to try to get him too - I have some baby carrots so I was going to try to cook them to soften them up and see if he'll eat them, haha. Who knows!

  31. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I thought about strawberry puffs. We don't have those but I have seen them at the store. That is what I am doing, baby carrots.
    PS. Check FB

  32. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, I THINK my daycare has had strawberry flavored puffs before, so I'm kind of nervous!! Though I haven't seen her giving out puffs since I made a big stink to the director, so HOPEFULLY it'll be okay. And if I stress that Xander's potentially allergic, hopefully they'll be extra careful!

Also, I LOVE that pic on FB - so glad your photog was able to get some good shots!

  33. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Smurfette: I hope that she gets back to her normal self this week. I'm sure there will be lots of great photos.

@QueensBee: That is good that weening went so smoothly. It must be nice to have your body back. I'm scared of gaining a bunch of weight when we wean, I guess I'll have to stop eating like a trucker and eat like a lady again!

I'm hoping to start weaning after we move. At least for the daytime anyway to start. That gives us a couple months to figure it out before he has no choice. It just may be hard since he still refuses a bottle. I'm going to be willing to do morning and evening as long as he wants to, it is just the day that will have to get cut out.

@Smurfette: @Adira: Good luck with the cooked carrots!

@Adira: I really hope he doesn't have another reaction. Hopefully the ped will be able to help you out to determine the cause.

It has been snowing all day and I feel like we are stuck inside. I don't mind taking Isaac out to do errands when it is cold/snowy but people drive like idiots when it is snowing and I just don't want to risk being out there. I'm a little over paranoid since I was in an accident last winter. So I'm hoping it stops tonight and they clear the roads so we can go get groceries, or else I already have a list for DH!

  34. shopaholic

@Adira: Oh no! I assume the allergy is strawberry and not yogurt? What a scary event! Poor Xander and worrying mama! I show K Xander's videos too! The last one was too short for her attention, but she likes the clapping one!

@ALV91711: We had a similar day for naps. 70 min. for the morning. 20 min. for the afternoon. We still have a couple hours to go till bedtime and I've been trying to put her down for 25 min. Might be an early night...

@Smurfette: Sorry R is still not coping with the time change well and had a rough time at the photoshoot. But photographers are pretty used to fussy babies, so I am sure she would be able to get some good shots.

@QueensBee: Yikes! I'm scared of weaning then! I've already gained a few pounds over my pp weight, when I had lost more than my pp weight a few months after baby. I think AF made a difference. Scared of what weaning will do to me!

Anyone lower their LOs cribs yet? K is trying to pull herself up on various short things. She kind of pulls herself up, but not into a sitting position yet. She just looks kind of tall in the crib now. I'm scared she'll topple out. I want to lower it this weekend, but it will be harder to lift her in and put her down after we do it.

Total "parent fail" today! We took 2 cars to the mall (after going to the mechanics) and DH let to go home early. Well, the car seat and Ergo were in his car! I had an extremely fussy baby and couldn't go home until he came back. Also, she basically wouldn't nap after her first nap.

@ALV91711: yep I had to get her at 515, 30 mins in the crib is her max time. I am so tired. She will take nap between 7-8, so at least I can hopefully too.

  39. QueensBee

    pear / 1718 posts

@Smurfette: @Adira: Do I miss nursing? It's a good question! I am still in a bit of disbelief that it's over. I'm very happy to have my body back, especially since we will probably TTC next spring/summer. I wanted a few months between pregnancies to own my body again. The hardest part for me has been the knowledge that I'm no longer providing him with the best food for his health (I have some guilt over it), especially when he's sick. Aside from that, we do just as many snuggles together as before. He's at such a snuggly age and he's started reaching out to me when he wants to be in my arms, so that helps me feel like we still have a close mama/baby relationship.

@smurfette: Oh, yes, a hardcore diet around the holidays is the perfect time to begin! DH and I went paleo for a month in the late summer and I think we have to get back on that. We allowed ourselves one cheat meal a week to stay sane. It just takes so much time to prepare everything, especially breakfast in the mornings. Let's keep each other motivated!

4:45am is too early on a Sunday! Pete woke up at 5:30pm so I don't have much advice to give. Really hoping that they can start to sleep into the 6am range soon....

@adira: I hope you can determine the exact source of the allergy soon. Daycare needs to be super careful- no strawberry puffs for sure! Maybe you can bring in a note from the doctor stating that he can only eat foods provided by you guys? It should be assumed but I know they have given you a tough time with your food requests so maybe a physician's note would send the message more strongly.

@shopaholic: Oh no, the car seat mix up must have been so frustrating! I hate that stranded feeling, especially with a baby! I would totally try to blame that on DH even though we were both at fault. I tend to become irrational when cranky. Lucky DH.

We still have to lower our crib to the bottom level. Probably sometime this week. I can't believe it's already time for that!

@ALV91711: Did the snowing stop last night? It must be so hard to have such a long winter. I don't blame you for staying inside during a snowstorm. There are always so many preventable accidents in the snow from people who don't understand how slippery the roads are!

@travellingbee: Yay, so happy he was able to sleep!! Is he on antibiotics or are you trying to ride out this ear infection without them?

  40. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@travellingbee: I'm glad he slept through the night. I hope that he keeps it up for you.

We had night 3 of good sleep. The only problem is after he gets up and nurses and goes back to sleep I have a really hard time getting back to sleep and staying asleep. I guess my body is just not used to 5-6 hours of straight sleep.

@Smurfette: I hope you are able to get a nap in too.

@Adira: I hope Xander did good through the night and feels good today.
