@Adira: YAY!! Way to go Xander. Now watch out Mom and Dad, nothing is safe!!
R is 9 months today. I can't believe we are in the last SINGLE digit month........excuse me while I go cry.

@Smurfette: Gahhhh!!! Our babies are growing up soooooooo fast!!!! Slow down babies!!!
Hubs and I were talking last night that it's time we put the baby gates up!!! Guess we'll be doing that this weekend (unless Hubs gets home early enough to do it sometime this week)!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Yep! I would go ahead and lower the crib too. A week after she crawled, she started pulling herself up.

The Baby Dudes and R are 9 months old today! I can't believe we're all so close to a year. It's crazy. I want to reply to a bunch of stuff from the last page, but it's so hard to do after the page changes so...
Movement totally seems to happen with a bunch of stuff all at once. The boys pulled up, started real crawling, and trying to climb on low things in the span of a weekend a few weeks ago. Now, they're trying to climb taller things, they let go of whatever they've pulled up on and try to grab for something else, some cruising....it just goes so quickly.
We still have NO TEETH, y'all. My cousin told me none of her three kids had any teeth before 14 months old, and I think we might be the same way. From the end of last week and into this one, he has had such a chapped face from drooling so much, won't let me put my finger in his mouth, is chewing on or pulling off the bottle, and hasn't been sleeping good...but still no sigh of actual teeth. Not that I have the faintest clue how you ever get a good look. They refuse to cooperate when I try to look for signs of teeth. Gummy grins forever over here!
They are eating 3 meals a day now in solids and we are working on more and more finger food and getting better at actually getting some of it in their mouths.
@Adira: The baby gates are my nemesis. But alas, they do indeed serve their purpose of baby containment. I agree on dropping the crib, while you're at it!

@Mrs. Blue: Yay Baby Dudes!!!! I love updates on them! (Even more when there are pictures!!) It's crazy how quickly they progress from crawling to the other things! And the Baby Dudes sound fearless! I can't believe they don't have teeth yet! But I'm not surprised they won't let you check - I couldn't with Xander either! I couldn't really tell that he was teething until they came through.

@Mrs. Blue: I still can't believe our babies are 9 months. I remember when she was born, December and 9 months seemed so far off, and now it is here. I bought a 1 birthday candle this weekend, crazy talk.
I know a couple babies that had no teeth till after 1. And it is so hard to get to see. If the gums look swollen, or white, that is how I know. I got a look at R's tooth this morning and I think it is finally on it's way down. I think R drools more a week or two before the tooth actually cuts through.
Will they feed themselves table food? Or want to be fed? R is so lazy, will eat it all if we feed her.
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@Smurfette: Finn will grab whatever we put on his tray and get a good amount of it in his mouth. He's totally happy for us to hold some chicken for him to munch on, too. That kid doesn't care as long as their is a constant flow of solid food. Elliot will grab food and depending on the size is somewhat successful. At getting it in his mouth. He will eat anything we feed him, too. He doesn't care quite as much as Finn, though. I think it's the extra layer of chub that he has!

@Adira: I do think that J is more of a snacker than a big meal girl. I'm pretty jealous of you and @Smurfette with four bottles/nursing sessions a day! I think this weekend I'm going to stop being lazy and start getting more solids going!
And crawling! YAY!!!! I agree with everyone about lowering the crib. j really went from almost crawling to crawling everywhere and pulling herself up on everything in the matter of like a week.
Last night we only had one wake up and slept for 11.5 hours! So amazing!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Purpledaisy: Yay for sleep!!!! That's awesome!!! Xander has been doing that, but last night he woke up a couple times and then woke up early this morning - I have no idea what his problem is - maybe teething? And good luck getting more solids going! It's been hard for me to really get into this because Xander seems uninterested and he refuses to eat any finger foods!

@Smurfette: So funny that she wants to be fed. Meanwhile, Lukas won't let me feed him. He started eating school lunch this week (which I have mixed feelings about-- not the most organic or healthy of options!) Yesterday he had baked chicken, green beans and mashed potatoes, so that was ok. The day before he had chicken nuggets and tater tots. Hmmm...
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Purpledaisy: Yay! Sleep is so awesome, I love it when babies realize it.
@travellingbee: It is weird bananas and puffs are the only things she will feed herself. Unless we are at a restaurant, then she might eat food if I put in front of her.
There was no veggie yesterday? Is that included with tuition?
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Smurfette: Yes. The "vegetable" was tater tots. I'm sorry-- they were sweet potato tots. Blech.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: Urg, that would make me mad too. Fried potato isn't a veggie.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Purpledaisy: So unbelievably jealous of your sleep. I can't wait until the day that this happens again.
We have to get L out of our bed. I can't deal. He goes to sleep in his bed and inevitably wakes up coughing and crying within the next few hours. He then won't go back in his crib. My DH was up for hours last night with him, trying to get him back into his crib to no avail.
Oh and he has a "touch of croup" again.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: I feel so bad for him, just one sickness after another.......Are you off during Christmas? That he gets a break from day care?
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Smurfette: Yeah... and that is why we're looking for a nanny. I suspect we won't sleep until he's out of daycare. It's just nuts.
ETA- Yes, I am off over the holidays. I'd love to not send him back afterwards...

@Smurfette: @Mrs. Blue: Happy 9 months babies!! Crazy how time is flying!
@Adira: Go Xander, he is getting around good!
@travellingbee: I hope you are able to find a good nanny so that he can stay home and hopefully stay healthy.
@Purpledaisy: That is a great sleep! I hope she keeps it up.
@Mrs. Blue: I love the gummy smiles! We've had two teeth for just over two months and it doesn't seem like any more are coming in.
Tonight was strange, usually Isaac nurses right before bed and is either asleep or super drowsy when I put him in the crib. Tonight he didn't nurse as long as usual and was all awake. I rocked him for a couple minutes and then I had to go to the washroom. I put him in his crib and said good night and expected screaming to follow. It has been just about half an hour and there was not one peep out of him!

@Smurfette: Yay for the Zoli/straw cup!
@Adira: Yay for CRAWLING!!!
@Mrs. Blue: Yes! The moving/mobility development seems to be so crazy how fast they go from one thing to another!
@Purpledaisy: I've noticed K's appetite has increased, so maybe she's needing more calories and nursing a lot for that reason? I read there is another growth spurt around 9 months.
@ALV91711: Yay for the sleep situation tonight!
Things are getting better around here after my stomach flu and DH's bout with a cold. We've just been so so busy.
I had an appointment yesterday that was supposed to take a couple of hours, which turned into 5+ hours. I had only pumped 2.5 oz. of milk and told my ILs to use my freezer stash of milk for K if she needed it. Well, they couldn't find the freezer stash (just under some bags of baby food), and it was 2 pm by the time I got home. I last fed her at 6:30 am. And they said she wouldn't nap (not that they really tried). Needless to say, she was sooo hungry and tired. Nursed for over 20 min. and fell asleep right away. MIL forgot she was sleeping and yelled to FIL after 1/2 hr. and woke her up. But later I put her down for a 2 hour nap! Then today, she took another 2 hour nap! I mean - 2 days in a row? I just feel like I must be in for a rough day tomorrow since she almost never naps well 2 days in a row...
She keeps having nightmares though tonight. Screaming out in her sleep without fully waking up.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Wow! Did Isaac end up just hanging out in his crib until he fell asleep on his own???
@shopaholic: Awww, sorry that K had to go so long without food!!! But that's awesome that she took some great naps! Hopefully it's the start of a beautiful new trend and you're not in for some bad nap days!
@travellingbee: Gahh, poor L!!! It's just one thing about another!!! I can't WAIT for you guys to actually have a healthy spell and maybe you can all get some SLEEP for a change!!
So Xander is THIS close to eating puffs! He actually put some in his mouth last night and let them sit there for a couple seconds before spitting them out! And he didn't look COMPLETELY disgusted, just mildly disgusted! So we're making progress!!

@Mrs. Blue: When and how did you start giving meat? I think I want to start soon. I've loosely done BLW, so maybe I could just bake some chicken and give him cut up strips.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@jodyblair: We did little puffs/pea-sized bites of baked chicken. He did very well with that. If only he would sleep as well as he eats...:)
kiwi / 611 posts
@travellingbee: Do you put anything (seasoning/olive oil) on the chicken? I haven't introduced anything to LO other than plain fruits, veggies, and puffs. I'm so scared of allergies bc of his MSPI! I want to be more adventurous with the foods I give him but I'm too nervous.

@shopaholic: Sorry she had to go so long without food. That is awesome that she had two days of long naps. I hope that she keeps it up for you.
@Adira: Yup, he was asleep in about 15 minutes. He didn't really move and he didn't make one noise. It was weird but great! I was expecting a scream fest. Even when he is almost asleep and I put him in his crib he usually makes a couple grunts or groans as he settles in.
Soon you won't be able to give him enough puffs!
@jodyblair: We've done strips of chicken breast baked with cornflake crumbs, oregano & basil. He seemed to really like them.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: I hope that he continues to go to sleep that easily for you!!

Hi everyone!
I've had a couple of busy days and now feel so behind on the thread!
@shopaholic: Glad to hear you are feeling better! And maybe these two hour naps are the start of a new trend! Fingers crossed for you.
And I hope her little nightmares go away soon too. That sounds no fun at all.
@jodyblair: We've given Pete a lot of meat, he loves it. One easy way to start is with some beef sliders. I picked up a package of pre-made ones from the butcher and I heat one up at a time in a nonstick pan. After it cools off, I just break it apart into a few pieces and he picks them up and shoves them into his mouth. We've done the same with turkey and lamb burgers too!
@ALV91711: It's seriously the best feeling in the world then they completely fall asleep on their own! And always so shocking! Awesome!
@Adira: Awwwe, glad he is warming up to the puffs. Maybe he will be a food critic one day!
@travellingbee: Good luck with the nanny search! I'm so glad you have time off for the holidays so you can both rest and get healthy. How is his croup today?
@Mrs. Blue: Happy (belated) Nine Months to the baby dudes! I love gummy enjoy smiles- enjoy them while you can!!
Pete has also started giving big slobbery open mouth kisses. I LOVE them! His daycare teacher mentioned that he also started singing along in his baby language during morning meetings at daycare. Heart melt. And lastly, I got his "report card" from daycare this week. What could be on a report card for an 8 month old, you might ask? Ummm it is two pages long, double sided! Extremely detailed- lol! I will type out some categories after I finish teaching my next class.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful Thursday!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@QueensBee: What! I want a report card for Xander!! I don't think our daycare does that, haha. I can't wait to hear the kinds of things that are on Pete's! And I'm sooooo jealous that Pete is giving you kisses!! Xander gave the daycare lady a kiss but won't give me one...

@ALV91711: Yay for going to bed on their own.
@shopaholic: Aww, poor K. Did she take a bottle ok? I think yall were having issues with this. I hope today is a good nap day!
@jodyblair: I cooked chicken with salt and pepper the other night, like I do for us. Then just shredded a couple pieces for R. She didn't seem thrilled with it. Going to try it again and just feed it to her.
@Adira: He will be a puff addict before you know it!
@QueensBee: So cute!!! I can't wait to hear what is on his report card!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
R had her 9 month appointment this morning. As soon as we walked in the room and I put her on the table to get her undressed the tears started. I think she remembered last week when DH took her. The nurse laid her down to measure her and wow, you would have thought she was torturing her. I held her while they pricked her toe, iron test, totally fine. I had to hold her the whole time, she wouldn't let DH, unless when the doctor was looking her over. But she definitely knows the doctor's office and doesn't like it!
She is 27" long and weighs 16.11lbs. Two lbs since her 6 month appointment, but in almost a month and half when we were there about her spit up, she gained nothing!!! The doc said that she looks perfectly healthy, she has chub, so isn't that concerned but wants to try and do a yogurt, or another fatty food at least one meal a day. And to up her formula to 8oz bottles. Which sounds way too much for her. I think she will just spit it up. So I might try a couple bottles at 7 ozs and see how that goes.
I think she is just an active baby. She does sit, she is crawling or cruising all the time.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh wow, R got tested for iron?? They didn't do that with Xander... and you would think he'd be more likely to have an iron deficiency since he's breastfed (formula usually has iron, right??).
And I agree with you - I think she's just so active and that's why she hasn't gained any in the last month! And I'd increase her bottles gradually too! Hopefully she does okay with 7 oz. Are you going to try to get her to have yogurt once a day? And is there a good fatty alternative since Xander can't have yogurt and is a peanut too?
pear / 1718 posts
@Smurfette: 8 ounce bottles does seem like a lot, especially considering how much she already spits up. I'm certainly no pediatrician, but in all her IG photos, I think she looks like she has a perfect amount of healthy chunk on her! And like you said, considering how active girlfriend is, it totally makes sense that she hasn't gained a lot. I hope the appointment didn't stress you out! She looks great!
Okay here is a glimpse of Pete's report card. The mark a number grade on a five point scale (1-5) for each skill. 1 is "not yet" and 5 is "surpasses developmental expectation." Some examples of the categories and criteria...
Sense of self:
I know that my hands and feet are a part of me.
I feel secure when you hold me in your arms.
I smile and wiggle when I like playing with you.
I protest strongly when I am upset.
I have developed ways to soothe myself.
Communication and Language:
I communicate through expressions on my face and gestures.
I make some of the sounds I hear.
I may catch your eye and smile to tell you I am ready to communicate with you.
I stretch my arms toward you when I want you to pick me up.
Movement:
I put my hand and objects in my mouth.
I can move an object from one hand to another.
I can make marks on paper with crayons and markers.
I can sit in a chair.
Social relations:
I recognize my parents voices.
I relax more when I am with you and other people I know.
I like to play games with you like peek-a-boo and hide and seek.
I have fun making silly faces and noises with other children.
So this is only like one tenth of the criteria- it's long! I mostly just skimmed through it. It's kind of hilarious. I love baby school.

@Smurfette: Oh one fatty food that Pete loves is toast dipped in olive oil. I break the toast into small pieces (we use Ezekiel bread which is very hearty), dunk each one in a EVOO and then put them on his highchair tray. He goes crazy for it!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@QueensBee: OMG, I LOVE that!!!! I wish our daycare did that!!! That's so cool!!! How'd Pete do? Do you feel comfortable with where he's at developmentally, given this report card?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Avocado!! Yep, will do yogurt with lunch. She will miss her banana for breakfast too much. She said to go ahead and try peanut butter.
@QueensBee: I am not going to stress that much about it. I will try 7 ozs bottles and see how she does. She didn't even finish her 6 oz bottle after the doctor. Going to just try more fatty foods. I will try the toast and EVOO. We need to try toast anyway.
I love that report card. I want one for R!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Bananas are fatty too, aren't they? That's a good idea about avocado - I should get some for Xander! I just wish they made it already pureed so I don't have to do the work, haha.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Try it over the weekend. Just spoon feed it to him and see how he does.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: So... I've never actually bought an avocado before... how can I tell if it's good?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: What??? We can't be friends any more.
http://www.nwedible.com/2012/05/never-buy-a-rotten-avocado-again.html

@Smurfette: I know, I know! I'm the WORST!! But thank you for the link!! Now I feel like I can buy one with success!! I'm curious if Xander will like it... he's been avoiding green foods lately...
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: She ate almost half of one with dinner. Also had turkey lunch meat and cheese(shredded, all we had she could have). We really need to work more on getting her to feed herself.
