March Mamas & Babies: 2/3 Done!

@QueensBee: I totally understand. As annoyed as I get lately, I don't think we could ever be a no-dog home.

Sounds like Pete was a total angel today! Beyonce concert! Whoo hoo! That sounds like fun! I am scared of when we'll leave K for a whole night. I'm sure he'll do fine!

@Smurfette: Oh! I've heard the same thing about keeping the avocado seed. I'll have to try the onion trick some day!

@Purpledaisy: Wow! She is the most petite of the March babies! So sweet and cute!

@ALV91711: Yay for waving! The best is waving at strangers. Or at least K thinks it's awesome to get attention that way!

Oh ladies! I found out WHY K kept waking up last night. She woke up this morning with one middle front tooth splitting the gum open and a tiny sharp tip visible. I can see the side one under the gum too. So it looks like she is getting 3-4 teeth on top all at once.

She also decided she did NOT want to nap this afternoon. She had a short 25 min. nap in the Ergo while I did some Xmas shopping. I spent over an hour and 2 xs trying to get her to nap again. She was not pleased at all so I finally gave up and she was soooo happy. I'm so thankful to have such a happy, smiley baby. But seriously - why does my kid only want to nap 1 hour total ALL DAY? And no, she's not sleeping longer at nights. we got 10.5 hours last night including all the wake-ups. Ahh... I feel like I'll be counting on Motrin for a few days at least. So. Tired.

    @ALV91711: Happy Moving Day!

@shopaholic: 3-4 new teeth at once?! Wow, that's a lot! She's going to have a full toothy grin for Christmas! So cute!

Sorry she didn't want to nap but at least she was in a good mood about it!

Pete never hits the recommended 14 hours of sleep. He usually sleeps about 10.5-11 hours at night and a 1.5 hours of naps, on a good day.

He was up again at 5:27am today. Sigh. So much for the 6am wakeup from yesterday. But, it's still better than the 4:30am wake ups from last week!

@ALV91711: So cute!! I keep trying to get R to wave and nothing....Hope everything is going great today.
@shopaholic: Aww, poor K! Teething is no joke. I would give her all the Motrin she needs. 3 teeth cutting at once would be rough. Sorry she isn't napping! I hope today is better.

Looks like we are moved in!!! Now to unpack. DH is at the old place cleaning and finishing up. Apparent the movers left about thee pick up trucks of stuff and we don't know why.

@shopaholic: I hope those teeth come through so she can get some sleep and you too. On good days we average 12 hours of sleep with naps.

@QueensBee: What time does he go to bed? I wish all babies magically slept 12 hours at night.

@Smurfette: It is a funny little wave, but he is so happy when he does it.

I'm freezing, our door was open for over an hour and it is -20 outside! Good thing Isaac was bundled up.

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@ALV91711: Did he call the movers? I would be calling to get their butts back there and move everything else.

  6. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Smurfette: We will be calling. We only got 5 hours free and it took them 4.5 hours. This was given to us from the builders, so we will also let them know. There punishment was listening to Isaac scream because he was overtired.

@ALV91711: I can't believe they left truck loads of stuff behind! I hope you were able to get them to come back for the remaining boxes. Moving is always so stressful but now you can begin to unpack and settle in for a long, long time!

Pete had his first kale smoothie today. I make kale/spinach smoothies for breakfast, almost every day, because my husband will hardly eat any other vegetables throughout the day. The easiest way for me to sneak them into his diet is through smoothies (it sounds like I'm talking about toddler but no, it's DH). So I figured it was about time that I get Pete in the habit of a green smoothie for breakfast too! I mixed a few greens, greek yogurt, and a bunch of frozen raspberries in the blender. He was skeptical at first bite but loved it after a few tastes! I was so proud of my little green smoothie monster...

Also, I found out today that a coworker/good friend is having identical twins in June! I'm so thrilled for her, I can't stop thinking about it! She already has an 18 month old son so she will have her hands full but I know they will do great. I can't wait to find out if they will be boys or girls!

And finally, for the first time since he was a tiny newborn, Pete pooped after he fell asleep tonight. Ack! I could smell it as soon as I walked into his room to check on the temperature. I didn't want him sleeping with a poopy diaper because he gets diaper rash very easily, so I had to wake him up to change him. He was sooooo upset, he was shaking. Poor baby. After the diaper change it took about five minutes of heavy crying until he fell back asleep. I sure hope that doesn't happen again for another 8 months!

@QueensBee: @Smurfette: @ALV91711: Thanks. I tried snapping a pic while she was in the Ergo today. They look so funny - like they are crooked and huge!

@QueensBee: That's kind of comforting to know about the sleep total. Wow! Awesome on the smoothies! You have been the leader at food exploration with the March babies! I can barely keep up feeding myself and K these days. One of these days I need to meal plan for all of us so it's not so much work.

@ALV91711: Yay for moving in, but wth about leaving stuff at the old house. Lol on their punishment, but poor Isaac!

K slept in later this morning and I actually woke up before she did! whoo hoo! She's only on her 2nd nap of the day, but her first one was over an hour, so I'm pleased. It's just difficult trying to get everything done around the house, finish Xmas shopping, and wrapping presents in between the feeding, changing, naps - I am just eating my 2nd meal of the day myself - and it's instant noodles.

@shopaholic: Wow! Those are some teeth coming in!! R has gaps between her top teeth. Still waiting on #4, I can almost feel it. She was fussy pants tonight after she ate so I gave her Tylenol. I hope it breaks through tonight.
I have been doing all my wrapping once R goes to sleep.

Xander FINALLY gave me a kiss tonight!! I was laying on the floor near him and he crawled right over to me and slobbered on my cheek!! And then stole my glasses...

@Adira: aww! He was like I bet if I give her a kiss she won't notice me take her glasses.......

  12. QueensBee

    pear / 1718 posts

@Adira: Awwwe. this! Totally worth the wait, I bet!

Speaking of the wait, is Pete the only March baby who has not said a first word yet? He babbles to himself all the time but hardly ever makes distinctive consonant sounds. He does a lot of "wowwowwoww" but not many other consonants and definitely no "mama" or "dada" yet. Anyone else still waiting for the sweet sweet moment of hearing mama (or any word?!) for the first time?

@shopaholic: Lol, my husband would laugh to hear I'm a leader in any food category because I'm such a lousy cook of grownup food. But, I really like cooking little meals for Pete! Also, he is such a big finger food eater that I am pretty much forced to give him real food. I wouldn't spend nearly this much time on meals if he refused to eat most of it but since he gobbles everything down and then screams for more, I keep making more and more!

Glad the naps went better today and yes, I can commiserate. It's so hard getting everything done in time for the holidays! Ahhh She has so many teeth in that pic! I hope she gets a little break from teething once this group comes in.

@Adira: Awww... doesn't that just melt your ?!

@Smurfette: So K is finally catching up with R on the teeth - all at once? ugh. lol

@QueensBee: K is very stingy with "mama". I've only heard it a handful of times. She still just mainly says dada. But she just prefers to open her mouth and make loud noises all the time instead of closing her mouth to make any consonants.

So now I am wondering... how many teeth do all the March babies have now?

  14. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@QueensBee: a green smoothy sounds good. Did he drink it from a straw cup? We don't have words over here, just lots of babble. He does say dadadadada, but never dada. You really do inspire me to try more foods with Isaac, DH just said yesterday that he eats better than we do.

@shopaholic: That must have felt nice to wake up when you were ready. Look at all those teeth! I'm pretty sure Isaac is working on number four but I can't get a look in there. Gave the poor kid Tylenol before bed, hopefully it helps him sleep better.

@Adira: What a cutie! Glad he is showing you some love.

He went down pretty easy for being overtired tonight. Im hoping he sleeps good. I'm also hoping that since our bedroom doors aren't a foot away from each other now that every grunt or groan he makes won't wake me. Our rooms are close enough still though that we don't have to use a monitor to listen for him at night, which I like.

Quinn finally cut her first tooth the other day. I had no idea it was coming, and noticed it when I made her laugh. So cute. I'm going to miss her gummy smile.

@shopaholic: Oh man, poor bub! So many teeth at once has got to be super uncomfortable.

@Adira: YAY kisses! That is so funny about your glasses though. Quinn loves to steal DHs glasses off of him

@QueensBee: Um, no. I hear nothing close to real words from Quinn. She babbles ALL the time, but no real words yet. Although the other day I asked her if she wanted milkies while signing milk, and she looked at me and was all "MUH" Totally a coincidence hahaha.

  16. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@shopaholic: Urg.....damn thing didn't break through last night. I asked her if she was saving it for Christmas morning, haha!

She woke up at 445 this morning. So she got 9.5 hours of sleep:(

And are your babies obsessed with pulling your hair??? R always has been but it is so bad now. Annoying.

  17. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@QueensBee: She said Mama like three times and nothing since then. It is blabbs and Dada.

  18. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@QueensBee: Xander still hasn't said his first word either! He babbles "da da da da" over and over, but I don't think he ever says "dada" and means Hubs, so I'm still waiting on the first word!

@shopaholic: Xander's four top teeth came in pretty much all at the same time! His middle two broke through first, followed soon after by the other two (though I think he's probably still working on those two, they're not all the way down yet). But in total, he has six teeth.

@Smurfette: I ALWAYS wear my hair back in a ponytail around Xander because he's constantly pulling at it! And even with it pulled back, he'll often get a fist-full and pull it out of the ponytail!

  19. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: He has more teeth then R now!! She is still working on #6 breaking through. Even when I wear in back in a ponytail, while drinking her bottle, she grabs the top of my head. Then if she stands up on my lap, she pulls at the little fly away pieces if I put the pony on my other shoulder.

  20. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, babies love ripping our hair out! Also, why won't R sleep in anymore??? Tell her that 4:45 is not an acceptable wake-up!

  21. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I wish I knew.....so frustrating. At least she is taking better naps. She did a 50 and 60 min yesterday at day care. She does wake up in those, but her teachers just leave her and within 5 mins she is usually back asleep. She passed out within 2 mins of being in the car this morning. Poor thing so tired.

Okay, I'm glad Pete isn't the only baby who hasn't gotten the whole word concept yet. I know it's still early. Thanks for the reassurance!

@boots: Congrats on the first tooth! I love the "muh" coincidence. I would totally count that!

@shopaholic: He only has his two bottom teeth. I think he is behind on the March baby teething! How is K feeling and napping today?

@Smurfette: Pete went through a hair pulling phase but it has mostly passed. Ponytail is def the way to go! It's a disaster if I try to wear a necklace though.

Ugh, Pete woke up again after his post-sleep poop around 10pm. Then he woke up again at 3:15pm. I gave him a pacifier and he fell back asleep, but then I couldn't fall back asleep. And then he woke up AGAIN at 4:30am. I brought him into bed, gave him a bottle, and he slept beside me until 6:45am. I do love the snuggles but I can feel myself getting sick from the lack of sleep. Sleeeep, baby, why won't you sleeeep?

So last night we had our sleep consultation with Isis. I think we have a good plan ready to go but it is a slow process. The main goal is for him to fall asleep on his own in his bed, sleep for at least a chunk of 6 hours to start the night, and return to his crib after any wake-ups. Right now he needs to be rocked or nursed to sleep, he sleeps about 1-3 hour segments and then wants to come to our bed for the rest of the night.
The method that we are going to use is called Trading down Sleep Associations (http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/trading-down-sleep-associations-an-alternative-to-cio). I'm excited to get started. We will spend the first few nights just adjusting the light-dark cycles to get him going to sleep and waking at good times. It was a very informative phone conference. Fingers crossed it all goes well. I think we are very committed to it.

@ALV91711: Glad he went down for you pretty easily!

@boots: Aww! Her first tooth! It must not have been too bad if you didn't notice til after it cut!

@Smurfette: Boo. OMG yes. She has been, so I never wear my hair down or necklaces anymore. Her new thing is to stick her fingers/hands in my mouth and it's really ROUGH, poking my eyes, grabbing my nose, and sticking her fingers in my ears.

@QueensBee: Aww... poor mama. Maybe he's working on teeth too? I can really only see the tops ones when she is upside down.

    @travellingbee: Good luck!

So K had 1 wake-up shortly after going down last night, but stayed asleep for 11 hours! I think the Motrin definitely helped. We've gotten one 40 min nap so far today. I gave her some steel-cut oatmeal for the first time today. She doesn't seem to be too much of a fan, but I added a teeny bit of brown sugar and then she seemed to like it better. I don't blame her. I also started to giving her Mahi Mahi last night, but I don't know how to keep leftovers really soft and moist. Once the fish is kind of dry, she doesn't like it. And I can't keep making teeny tiny filets for her!

@shopaholic: R sticks her fingers in my nose all the time too. So gross. Glad K got a good night of sleep. I would honestly give her the Motrin every night till those teeth come in. Poor thing.

Oh!!! I forgot to tell you guys! Last night we were playing on the floor and I was lying down. K used my shoulder to push off and stood on her own for a good 4 seconds or so! DH and I just stared in disbelief!

@ALV91711: I fed him the smoothie with a spoon, just like I would regular yogurt. He hasn't mastered the straw yet, he's more of a sippy cup kind of guy.

@travellingbee: That sounds like a really productive phone call! I hadn't heard of this method of sleep training but I really like your description of it. Thanks for sharing the link- I will def check it out! Wishing you all the best! Let us know how it goes!

@shopaholic: Omg that's amazing! Go, K, go! I think Pete is way too top heavy to ever stand on his own. He has this enormous noggin' that keeps flopping around!

@QueensBee: Ugh, sorry to hear about your rough sleep and not feeling well!!

@travellingbee: Yay! So exciting!!! Good luck!!!

@shopaholic: YAY 11 hours of sleep!!!! Ugh, and I'm totally jealous of K's eating. Xander STILL will only eat purees. He keeps faking with the puffs but won't really eat them yet!

@QueensBee: haha, Xander's the same way - his head is too big - he's never going to stand on his own!

  32. QueensBee

@Adira: Haha According to Pete's percentiles from his last appt with the ped, he's short and pudgy, with a big head. But, we prefer to say he's, "short, pudgy, and SMART!"

I love that Xander does a fake out with puffs! Have your tried any flavored ones? The Plum Organics Blueberry puffs taste like candy and Pete adores them, although he eats anything.
I worry they are actually too sweet so I prob won't buy them again but perhaps they are a good gateway puff for Xander.

R was walking around her music table over and over tonight, but she kept letting go and just standing on her own. One time I counted 30 seconds!

She has a bad rash, I think it is yeast rash. Poor baby. She kept itching herself after bath when I was trying to get all the creams on her, she would itch and I would have to start all over.

@boots: Glad her first tooth came in so easily!

@Smurfette: I hope R sleeps later tomorrow. I can't believe she is standing on her own. She'll be walking in no time.

@travellingbee: I'm glad you had a good consult and that it works for you guys. I'm going to have to read that link.

@shopaholic: Sounds like a great sleep. I spoke too soon last nigh. He woke up about 9:30 screaming. Usually if he wakes up early he fusses a bit and goes back to sleep. I went to check on him and the poor little guy was cold. I gave him some cuddles and put him back to sleep.

Tonight I put a blanket on him for the first time. I figured since he barely moves he should be all right and I only put it up to just above his waste.

@shopaholic: I can't believe she stood on her own!

@QueensBee: Makes sense. We haven't even tried the straw cup yet, he is getting one in his stocking. He loves the sippy though and can get it in his mouth but doesn't quite get tipping it up.

@Adira: Once he starts eating puffs he won't stop! He will get there with finger food. Isaac loves feeding himself but luckily likes purees. With moving he hasn't really gotten any finger foods besides puffs in the last few days.

He is a yogurt monster. We can't eat yogurt without sharing anymore. Today he had half an avocado for lunch and then I cleaned him up and got myself yogurt and he just kept opening his mouth for bites, so I didn't get too much myself.

@QueensBee: I have the organic apple ones, but maybe I should try another flavor?? I think it's the texture he doesn't like though...

@Smurfette: Ugh, sorry to hear about the rash! That's exactly how Xander is with his eczema, especially around his ankles and knees. Whenever he has access to them, he just keeps scratching, and I try to apply creams and he just scratches it off!

@ALV91711: I know he'll eat finger foods eventually, but I just wonder when it will happen! Although I probably shouldn't rush it because with his milk allergy, finding foods for him to eat may be more challenging!
