@keepcalmcarrie: Big boy! I'm jealous of all of the sleep you have gotten! Sorry it is not so great right now, but it sounds like you have a good sleeper that will get back on track. TTC? Wow. I am not even slightly close to that. We need to get a few months sleep under our belts before that is even a thought. Best wishes to you!
@Arden: Wow-- she says more words than my friend's 2 year old!!!
@ALV91711: Teething is so miserable. Have you given him any tylenol? That is the only thing that works for us... I can't tell if L's next teeth are coming in anytime soon since he won't let me in his mouth.
@Smurfette: I have to be honest that I think day dates are the best now. I can enjoy myself instead of just wanting to go to sleep. We went to the movies the other day while my ILs watched him. So nice... Have fun!

So, we had a nice holiday but got totally off track with sleeping due to travel. My husband is sitting with him while he is screaming right now. He is the most stubborn kid I've ever seen. He just won't go to sleep. If you pick him up, he will fall asleep in seconds. But in his crib... he'll scream for hours.... We've been trying to be consistent despite travel but I guess it didn't work. We are giving it three very consistent days and seeing what happens. So far it hasn't helped except that first 2 nights. So frustrating.

L is crazy boy suddenly (he is in a leap, I guess). He is nearly running with his push toys. He climbs up on everything, pulls up on and pushes everything. He is saying mama now, waving, sticking out his tongue, using a hammer toy and throwing fits about random things like when I stopped blowing bubbles. He's like a different kid all of a sudden. Also, he is eating a lot. Tonight he ate a ton of blueberries and grapes, a pouch and a half of puree, 2 crackers and a few bits of chicken. For lunch (at the zoo!) he had some hot dog, puffs, a pouch of apple/carrot sauce, and some roll. And he has to do it all himself.

@keepcalmcarrie: we aren't even talking TTC until she is 18 months. I just can't imagine another right now since I solo parent Mon-Thurs. Plus I want more time with just R.
@ALV91711: Teething sucks. I am so over it. R won't let me look at her mouth to see if she is getting anymore. But she is whinning so much in her sleep tonight, wondering what is going on. And she took horrible naps today.
@travellingbee: I was wondering how the sleep training was going. Sorry he is being to stubborn. He will get it. Hang in there. He is eating a ton!! Do you think he is nursing less?

2.5 hours to get him to sleep. So much for him going to bed early tonight.

@travellingbee: Yes, we've been giving him Tylenol at night. Usually just before bed if he needs it, but last night I gave him a second dose and I will tonight when he wakes up.

Sounds like he is a big eater. That is awesome! I hope after a couple nights you will be able to get back to good sleeps.

I have to do more nap training, but I'm waiting until these three teeth are in. Then I want to do some more night training and get him back to one wake up. But I'm hoping his teeth coming in will kind of resolve this.

@keepcalmcarrie: After yesterday I may be one and done! Both myself and DH said that. Although I'm sure we'll get over it and follow through with two.

My cousin and her hubby came over with their 4 kids. It was just crazy. Our place got turned upside down (baby toys everywhere and they scuffed up the walls all up the stairway). They have no respect for their parents, it was madness. And my cousin is a wonderful mom but you could tell they wore her out by the end of the visit. They cleaned up all the toys before they left. Isaac was so overwhelmed and with them and teething pretty much clung to me all day.

    @Smurfette: That's a good idea - I really should get it inspected!

Yay for your day date!!! Hope you two have fun today!!

@keepcalmcarrie: Yay TTC!!!! Hubs and I aren't TTC officially, but we're NTNP for #2! I JUST got AF back, so I'm ready!!!

@travellingbee: I hope L eventually went to sleep for you and gave you some peace and quiet!! How has he been now that he has the tubes in? Have you noticed things being better??

Also, with the pouches - do you squeeze them out and then spoon feed? Or does L understand how to suck it out himself?? I was thinking about getting one for Xander the other day, but wasn't sure if he'd know how to eat from it!

  6. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: We gave R a pouch the other day. I squeezed some in her mouth and then left it on her tray and she seemed to get it. If Xander gets the straw cup he should get it.

Ugh, girls, my boobs are totally failing me! I was FIVE OUNCES SHORT yesterday!!!!! Gahhh!!! That last week of being sick and exclusively nursing Xander has killed my supply!!!!

@Adira: I am sure they will recover once you get better! I thought nursing would help verses just pumping?

  10. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I think Xander doesn't drink as much as I try to provide him at daycare (well, he drinks it all from a bottle, but maybe not as much from the source). He's only been nursing THREE TIMES a day, so I think that's really been messing me up!

  11. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: 3 times? That is crazy.

  12. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Maybe I'm feeding him to much solids??? I can't figure it out. But our day will go like this: nurse at 6:30, 3.5 oz breakfast at 8:00, nap at some point, nurse at 11:00, 7 oz lunch at 12:30, nap, nurse at 3:30, 6-9 oz dinner at 5:30... but he just has no interest in nursing any more than that. If I try to offer him the boob earlier or instead of solids, he bites me!

  13. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: sorry that made me laugh that he bites you instead of solids. It does sound like a lot of solids to me. I will only give R 3.5 ozs if she gets a purée. Then maybe some puffs. She is mostly eating table food so I am not sure how much she is eating. This is our schedule
    630 bottle
8/830 breakfast (half a banana and maybe some Cheerios)
    1030 bottle
1230 lunch (today cheese, taco meat, green beans)
    230 bottle
430 snack puffs or mums at day care no snack when home
500 dinner no day care (last night she had green beans, cheese, slice of turkey)
    530/545 dinner day care day
    630 bottle

  14. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

I should add too some days more of her food ends up in the high chair or in her bib.

  15. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I wonder if I'm feeding him too fast?? But he eats it all and doesn't spit up after or anything... and sometimes it takes him 30+ minutes to eat it all. I just don't know! He doesn't eat quite as much when he's at daycare, but he gets 3 6+ oz bottles and still eats around 5 oz for breakfast and lunch (so 10oz solids total at daycare), so I don't know! He's such a peanut, I'm worried about not feeding him enough, but it does sound like he's eating a LOT... I wish he'd nurse more instead, but he won't!

    Hi everyone! Happy NYE!

We've had a busy holiday season and are currently visiting the ILs in Florida. Traveling with Pete on the plane was a bit of an adventure at this age and I know it's only going to get worse. It was a 3 hour flight and he napped for 45 minutes of it but he needed constant entertainment for the other 2 hours. However, it was a flight FULL of babies visiting grandparents so he fit right in with all the other noises. It does make me rethink of the trips I have been dreaming of for this summer. I'm not sure I can handle an international flight...

So far, Pete has not been having as much fun in FL as I had hoped. Well, he LOVES playing with his grandma, grandpa, aunt, and their dog so that's good. But he hates the sand and the ocean. He scowls and shrieks as soon as his toes touch the sand and he only barely tolerates the pool. I hope that he will grow to love the beauty and fun of the beach by our next visit! He also dislikes sitting in his stroller (he wants to be on the move at all times), so he's fairly unhappy when we go out on our daily walk along their beachfront path. This walk should be a kid's dream because it's full of beautiful birds and otters and baby alligators to look at! Again, hoping he'll grow to love it one day...

We are due to fly home on thursday morning but the east coast might be having a big snow storm and we are really really hoping our flight gets canceled. Fingers crossed! We'd love an extra day before heading back to the freezing NYC weather.

Pete's sleep and nap schedule has been amazing since I've been off from work and our routine is more consistent. He puts himself to sleep with zero crying at 9:30am and 2:45pm for his two daily naps, and sleeps for about 1-1.5 hours for each one. I'm still in disbelief each time he does it. This is such a big change from just a few weeks ago! And then he goes to sleep at 6:40pm each night but still wakes up between 5:30-6:30am in the morning. It feels so nice to have an actual schedule to work around and it means that when he is awake, he feels rested and is in a really happy mood (unless he's on the sand of course). I really hope it continues when he goes back to daycare on Monday but I doubt it.

Also, totally unrelated, but I found out yesterday that DH won a really big award at work but I have to keep it a secret from him! It's SO HARD! His company is going to make a video of his family and friends over the next few weeks and then will use it to surprise him with the award at a dinner. They are even flying someone down from NYC to Florida to video his parents. So, they are going to video Pete and me next week... I feel like I need a cute new dress or something! And, I don't know what to say in the video! Anyway, I'm so proud of him and so so excited but it's killing me to keep it a secret! Hence why I need to share it on the bee...

@QueensBee: Glad to hear Pete fit right in on the plane! Bummer about his reaction to sand though. It could be a texture thing. I know my BFF's daughter hated grass and sand for the longest time because she couldn't stand the different texture! He'll eventually get over that though! And his nap and sleep schedules sound awesome!!! Xander's still not consistent about when he goes down for naps! Sometimes he'll go down for a nap only an hour after being up in the morning, but other times he's awake for 3 hours before his first nap! There's no rhyme or reason to it!

That's so cool about your husband's award!!!! I'm jealous! And that's awesome all that his company is going to do to surprise him!! So cool!!! And you definitely need a new dress to wear!

@keepcalmcarrie: Welcome back to the thread! Sounds like Jack is doing so well! I hope he learns to sit down from standing soon. That's an important one, for sure! Good luck with TTC! Hope you get your bfp soon!!!

@travellingbee: Wow, he sounds like he's growing in leaps and bounds! Turning in a real boy! I hope the sleep improves soon. They can be so stubborn...

@Smurfette: Hope you're having fun on the day date! That's a great idea, I hadn't even thought of day dates.

@ALV91711: Sorry you had such a rough evening. I really hope those teeth break through soon. 4 kids sounds wild! I honestly don't know how people do it...

@Adira: Ugh, so frustrating about the nursing and pumping. How much of a freezer stash do you have? You've worked so hard and overcame such a difficult time in those early weeks, I really hope you can make it to your goal!

  19. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@QueensBee: Thanks, girlfriend! I'm actually not sure how large my freezer stash is... I think maybe 250 oz? I could probably make it to 1 year with a diminished supply by dipping into the freezer, though I'm worried about drying up!!

@Adira: He sure is eating a lot, but that is probably a good thing. I wish we only nursed three times a day. We are still at about 5-6. But the last couple days with not feeling great it has been more. With pouches I squeeze and spoonfeed since he usually doesn't eat the whole amount and I don't think he would get it yet. We are still working on the straw cup, he just chews on the straw.

@Smurfette: Hope you have fun on your date today!

@QueensBee: Sounds like a fun trip. Hopefully by nest time he will like the beach. That is awesome that your husband is getting an award, definitely get a new dress! I wish we had any sort of schedule, sleep is so hit and miss here.

Hope everyone has a great New Year's. I'm sure I'll be in bed early.

@QueensBee:Sounds like you are having a great time!!. Im sure Pete will get to love the beach and sand soon. I guess it could be the age now with all the stranger anxiety going on and so many new things. That is awesome your husband won an award!! You should totally get a cute dress for the occasion Are you going to match Pete's outfit with yours?
@Adira: Oh no sorry about the supply issue. Are you going to transition to cow's/alternate milk when he turns 1? (can't believe its just a few more weeks!!) He looks like he is eating solids well and not needing to nurse as much.

@keepcalmcarrie: Wow! He sounds like a little athlete build! I understand about the sitting back down for standing. It took K a few days for falling and she really started working on sitting back down from standing, thank goodness.

@Arden: Vi so verbally advanced! Smart girl! And WOW! We would LOVE a 10-10 schedule! Used to be something like that, but it hasn't been for months. Probably since she figured out how to stand up.

@Adira: Seems so different right? To have a convertible seat? We were going to use it for this trip, but DH decided it'd be easier for me to keep the infant seat in case I have to fly back home with K by myself when my sister goes into labor. Does he like sitting in it better?

@keepcalmcarrie: *bows down*claps* Whoo hoo to TTC and BDing again! Now we can take a pool and see if you or @Adira: make #2 first! It seems to be a back and forth thing with DH and he always does the PnP method when we DTD because he's not ready for a #2 yet. lol. I keep thinking I might be ready end of 2014, but I also think a 3 year age gap would be nice. I just have some added pressure because of my age, but I'd like K to be walking and able to communicate effectively before having another one... all that to say, "who knows?"

@ALV91711: Aww... mama that sucks! I know. I am/was just right there with you! We just pray by Motrin every night, but K has been moved into our bed more times than I can count the past two weeks just so I can get some sleep.

@ALV91711: Yikes! Good luck getting back on schedule! Sounds like you have a very active LO like me too! K is such a monkey - it really drains me of energy every day. Have you read the Wonder Weeks thing for right now? I was at my wits end this morning and looked at my app. Apparently she just started a Wonder Week Month and one of the things is about "doing things for him/herself" - i.e. what you said. Eek about your cousin visiting. I can imagine. My cousin's kid left black marks all over our walls from dragging some toys across them.

@QueensBee: Awww... sounds like a challenging trip. I definitely feel you though. I think this age we're in is REALLY challenging for any kind of travel. The LOs just don't want to stay still, but they can't do much by themselves yet (except for find lots of dangerous things!) The upside I bet is the wonderful FL weather! Hopefully he'll start to enjoy the water and walks. I know our nephews and a friend's son all had issues with the sand when they were younger. I think it's a sensory thing. Sounds amazing that his sleep schedule is working out! I forgot are you just on break or are you SAH now? And a big congrats for your DH! When does he find out?

HAPPY NYE to all the March Mamas and Babies! Our first NYE! Decidedly much more low key than ever before right? lol! I actually didn't realize it was NYE till I kept seeing everyone's IG posts!

We drove up to Mammoth yesterday and it was a crazy long drive! Usually 5-6 hours was more like 7-8 due to a ton of Las Vegas traffic on the first part of our route. K was really good until about the last hour and half, but who could blame her. I wanted nothing to do with the car anymore either.

Within 5 min. of being in the condo, she tried to play with the electrical socket and power strip 4xs, tried to touch the old wall heater unit (only a few inches off the ground), tried climbing up the stairs a few times (she can do it, but it's a hard, steep fall down), and tried yanking on the wall-mounted TV cords that dangle. *whew* I told DH that it was going to be a looong 2.5 weeks and no fun for me I don't think. We didn't have space in the car to bring the baby gate or jumperoo, so I'm hoping we can find some things to help baby-proof tomorrow. The town is small though, so we basically have a thrift store and a Rite-Aid to look for things.

I forgot my power adapter for the laptop - had to order one on Amazon, but even with Prime, I won't get it till Monday. Will probably be my last lengthy post written for awhile.

We're heading to DH's coworkers cabin for an early NYE get together. Hope everyone is having a nice evening!

@shopaholic: I'm not sure he likes the convertible seat better. He actually whined quite a bit the first day in it, so I was worried he didn't like it at all. But he seemed normal yesterday, so who knows!

Happy New Years!! What a great year this is going to be as we watch our babies turn into toddlers.

Hope that you all had a great night. I was in bed just before 9pm. Isaac's night went better, he went to sleep no problem and got up his normal two times and was awake for the day just before 6:30. He tried to wake up a couple times before that but as he was cuddled in our bed this morning after his second wake up I just patted and rocked him back to sleep.

@Adira: Happy Birthday!!! Hope your day is great and that you get spoiled!

@shopaholic: I've been moving him to our bed after his second waking so that he sleeps longer. I don't like doing it, but I also don't like waking up at 5. In his crib he'll wake around 5, if after the second waking he's in our bed it will be 6-6:30.

Hope that you have a great trip and you are able to find some things to baby proof.

@Adira: Ah looks like Xander might not be the only march baby with a milk allergy. We gave J dairy for the first time(yogurt) and she immediately broke out in a rash and little hives all around her mouth. Then that went away within about 10 minutes. Then I put her down for a nap and left for work. DH called me an hour later saying that she woke up and one of her eyes was swollen shut! So I left work and we took her to the ER. Finally got to see the doctor and he just gave her Benadryl. He gave us a hand out about food allergies and said to follow up with our pedi. So we will see... Did your pediatrician run any further tests on Xander?

Also he said that babies shouldn't have dairy until after 3 which I found very odd since most babies transition to WCM at a year old... Anyone else ever hear that?

  32. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

    @shopaholic: Thank you!!!

@Purpledaisy: Oh dear!! I'm sorry to hear that J might be allergic to milk too! Was the yogurt flavored? Maybe he's allergic to something else?? What a bummer, either way!!! Our pediatrician didn't run any further tests, but referred us to an allergist who did a skin prick test and confirmed the milk allergy.

And no! I've never heard of NOT giving babies dairy until after 3! What does he think you should do until then? Breastfeed or give formula until 3???

R took ONE step this morning!! I stood her up so she could show her teacher how well she is standing and clapping (her new favorite thing) and she took one little step toward her teacher and fell. Then she would only walk when holding her teacher's hands. Yay!! I am SO glad that I saw it though. We both were like did she really just take a step?!?! @Purpledaisy: I hope your pedi will be more help than that doctor. Waiting on dairy until 3 sounds a little crazy! What about milk?

@Smurfette: Go R!! I'm so glad you got to see her first step! She'll probably do it again soon.

@Adira: Isaac's still not even crawling forwards, never mind pulling up, he just pulls up to his knees.

Soon enough they are all going to be running around.

I love clapping. Yesterday and this morning Isaac has been clapping like crazy. It is so cute and he is just so proud of himself.

11 weeks and I'm going to be back at work, I wish I hadn't counted. That is such a short amount of time. A month ago I thought I was ready, now I feel like I want another 6 months. Although it will be nice to be around adults again and it will be good for Isaac to go to daycare and be around other kids.

@Adira: it was banana flavored from trader joes but I'm positive that she's not allergic to bananas.

@Smurfette: @ALV91711: I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks the dairy thing is weird!

She already has a follow up appointment from her 9 month check up on the 17th... I'm debating if I should wait until then or call and ask if they want her to come in earlier. Her eye is still swollen today but much better than last night. She just got another dose of Benadryl so hopefully it continues to go down.

    @Smurfette: I can't believe R took a step!!
