Hi Ladies!
Checking in real quick to catch up!
RE: Diaper changes - ugh! They are THE.WORST. They have been for months now, but progressively worse. I have tried putting them on upside down, while holding her in my arms, standing up, etc. I'm desperate. Most changes require me dangling something "new" in my teeth for her to try and grab while I furtively try to wrap the darn diaper.
RE: Food @ restaurants. I now give K a lot more people food because she's interested and so I can try to eat too. I hate to admit it, but while we were on our road-trips, she's gotten a couple of french fries, french toast, and a cheese quesedilla. Not that she actually finished any of them herself, but I have to give her something to occupy her.
RE: Wonder Weeks and Clinginess - we are definitely in the throes of this I think! K had her first ever "stranger danger" attack. With my parents, of all people. I have never seen her react to anyone like that - she kept turning and hiding her head in my shoulders after I held her. She just suddenly freaked out after seeing them. IDK what my dad did, but I guess DH said he was pretty loud and in her face.
Our update: Trip to Mammoth was cut short (Thank gawd! I was soooo over it and had cabin fever!), because my sister went into labor! She is supposedly 2 weeks early, but we all think her OB had the date wrong. Her first OB gave her a EDD of 12/27, and this OB gave her an EDD of 1/15. Baby came out 8lbs 11oz and 21"L! Bigger than K was a 1 month!
K seems to also be working on 2 more bottom teeth. Fist in mouth and fussy all afternoon/evening. I can't believe how many teeth she's getting in the span of 2 weeks! DH already called her a "toddler" - waaahhhh!
It's been a long and exhausting couple of days...

@Smurfette: Because of your IG pic of R getting a piggy back ride from your husband, I decided to try that with Xander, and he was OVER THE MOON!!! I don't know that I've ever heard him sooooooooooo excited before!!!! But man, OW! He was ripping out my hair and trying to eat it all while trying to bounce up and down on my shoulders! I was gripping him for dear life, afraid he'd suddenly arch his back and fall off! But it was fun, he LOVED it!!!! Thanks for giving me the idea!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: We have given R French fries numerous times. Breaks my heart she didn't love them. I made he a quesdilla one time and she wasn't into it either. Which is weird cause she likes cheese and tortilla shell but together was a no go. Congrats on being an Aunt!! R is working on another bottom 2 as well. I am sure they will take forever to come in.
@Adira: Yay!! R seriously loves it. She eats DH hair all the time.
So DH woke up at 4 and his flight was cancelled and told me day care was on a two hour delay cause it is so cold here. DH ended up getting on another flight, boo!! I never got back to sleep. Going to be a long day. And of course the two days this week that I really needed to be on time to work are going to be freezing so I know tomorrow we will have a delay as well.

Well girls, Hubs and I opened a 529 plan for Xander!!! I feel broke, haha.
Anyone else open a 529 or some other type of savings account for their LO?

@Smurfette: DH had a flight out early this morning toomand I was (not so) secretly hoping the roads would be too icy to drive or his flight would get canceled. No go. Boooo. Being a single mommy during the week is hard!! And I can't believe how cold it's going to be today and tomorrow. Georgia girls aren't made for this kind of weather!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: @jodyblair: What kind of weather are you ladies dealing with?? We had freezing rain this morning... the roads were so icy.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@jodyblair: For real! We have snow flurries here at work. I don't even want to think about how cold it is going to be tomorrow.
@Adira: We did! DH talked to our financial guy before Christmas. We decided to do a Roth IRA just in case she doesn't want to go to college, or cause she is super smart and gets a scholarship.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: It was 28 this morning but the wind chill made it even colder. We had some ice of the roads this morning. Supposed to get to 12 tonight, without the wind chill. We aren't use to it down here!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: So I did one of those calculators to figure out how much we should be saving a month for Xander's college education and it was all ~$600/month! WTF! So Hubs and I decided to TRY to save $100 (not even sure we can manage that much)! I'm soooooooo hoping Xander decides not to go anywhere TOO expensive!!!
And yeah, I can definitely see how that would be cold in Georgia!! Do you even have warm enough clothes for that kind of weather??? It's not even going to be that cold here - high 48 and low 13!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Yeah we aren't doing as much as we should be either. We just can't afford it with day care. We will up it when she is in free school!
I just wore a long pea coat, dressy, since I have to come to work. I piled like three blankets on R since she can't wear anything more then a thin coat. I warmed the car up, so she was ok. We didn't install the convertible car seat yet so I brought her seat in last night so I could bundle her up inside. Damn that thing is getting heavy.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh, that's a really good point! We're spending almost $1000/month on daycare, so once he's older and school, we'll be able to put more away! Now I feel better!
I hear you about the heavy car seat! That's the good thing about the convertible, though it can be kind of a pain to get Xander in and out of the car now! But it's a lot lighter just having to carry HIM! Hope you all stay warm today!!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Ours is $1200 a month. I can't even imagine what is going to be when we have 2. I did find out that it goes down $80 a month when she moves up a room.

Out of curiosity, is my son the only one who hasn't really said any words yet?? I mean, he's said "Dada", but he says "da da da da" to EVERYTHING, so I'm not really sure it counts!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@QueensBee: A girls weekend sounds like so much fun! It will be nice to do that and good for DH and Pete to have the time together.
Sadly our first night away probably won't be until next fall. We don't have anyone nearby that we trust to watch Isaac. So we are sure one of our mom's will come to visit then and we are going to leave overnight. We haven't told them this yet. When my mom comes in March we are going to get a date night or two, she is really excited to babysit.
@Mrs. High Heels: Hopefully this wonderweek doesn't last too long for him. It is so hard when they are clingy.
@shopaholic: Congrats on becoming and auntie! It is awesome that K has a cousin so close in age, they are going to have so much fun. I wouldn't worry about the food you've been feeding her, its not like that is all she has been eating. We've given Isaac fries a few times.
@Smurfette: Hope you keep warm in that crazy cold weather. Too bad that your DH got on another flight! It is super cold here too, but that is normal, I couldn't imagine not being used to it and then having to deal with the cold.
@Adira: We opened an education savings plan that we are putting $100/month into. It is great because it is registered with the government and they put in grants every year and if the kid ends up not going to school then that money just goes back to them. I think any bit helps, hopefully we all have smart babies who get scholarships.
@jodyblair: Stay warm!
@Adira: Isaac just babbles. He is the same and does say dada, but it is to anything, so I don't count it!
These teeth need to come through and stop giving him trouble. Every night he has been waking up 3 times that I have to get him. Last night again he woke up an hour after going to sleep and was screaming. It took over an hour before he was asleep again. I feel so bad that everything we are doing to help him just doesn't seem to be enough. At least he is happy so far today.

@shopaholic: haha your sister's birth sounds just like mine!! I was also given an EDD of 1/15 with Noelle, and she came 10 days early (born 1/6)… and was pretty big already (7 lbs 15 oz) so I always thought my due date was off, rather than considering myself a week and a half early! congrats to you and your sister - cousins will be fun!! my sister is due next month, so i'm excited for my kids to have a cousin too even though her son will be a year younger than J. hopefully they'll have fun when they both get older though.
@Adira: Yes, we have 529's setup with Utah for both kids. Not much goes in each month, but we figure something is better than nothing!
So my SIL works for a daycare in Oregon, and she says her daycare charges $1000 a WEEK….. my eyeballs pretty much fell out of my sockets.
@ALV91711: It's so hard to watch them in pain… I hate teething and feel so helpless! Hopefully those teeth come in soon. Glad he's happy today though!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: well R says Dada, Mama, and hey....but I don't think she gets what they are. Cause she says Mama to DH and Dada to me. But then she will say Mama to me while at my feet wanting to be picked up.
@ALV91711: again, teething is the devil's work!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Oh phew! I'm glad Xander's not the only one that just babbles. He babbles a TON, but no concrete words yet!
@Mrs. High Heels: I can't imagine how much more difficult it is to save when you have TWO babies! I don't know what we'll do once baby #2 is here... maybe baby #2 won't be going to college, haha.
OMG - $1000/week is RIDICULOUS! I hope people make $$$$ there to be able to afford that!!!
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
Well, I think we might be the last of the March babies to say this, but...
I think we finally have our first teeth breaking through! Elliot definitely has one, maybe two cutting through on the bottom. I'm not positive on Finn, but I think he has the same two trying to work through. I'm kind I sad--I love their gummy grins.
In other news, I have pneumonia. Good times in the Blue house.

@Mrs. Blue: Oh my gosh! Good-bye to gummy smiles!!! But it's about time they got teeth, haha!

@shopaholic: Congratulations on your beautiful new niece! I have a feeling K and H will be great friends!
I wouldn't worry about K eating some junk food on vacation. We did the exact same thing while out to lunch in Florida- Pete ate french fries, chicken fingers, dinner rolls. I think that's what vacations are for, a little indulgence!
So crazy about her sudden stranger danger. Pete can be like that around relatives that he doesn't see often if they come up to him and give him a big, excited hello. He definitely does better with a muted greeting while being held in my arms. I hope it gets better soon.
@Adira: Pete loves piggy back rides too and he totally claws at my hair also! I love how happy he is up there but then I feel like I might pass out when he grabs my hair with all his might.
Also, he definitely has not said any words yet either so Xander is not alone. I think boys are supposed to be a bit slower with the verbal skills than girls. Plus, my pediatrician said that most babies can make the "mamama" or "dadada" sound at this age but don't actually know they are referring to mama and dada. So, I think he sounds totally normal. At least, I hope so, because Pete is the same way!
We opened up a NY 529 plan this spring. I think it's awesome that you guys set one up and every little bit counts! Especially if the market continues to rise like it did in 2013 (here's hoping!). We've actually been able to contribute a between $300-500 each month, but we've never been able to hit the recommended $600 either. DH and I went to a private liberal arts college and we'd love to give Pete the opportunity to go there too, if we can. I don't know what we will do with a second LO though. We will both need a significant pay raise in order to pay for daycare and another 529 plan.
@ALV91711: Hoping those teeth forge through soon!
@Mrs. Blue: End of an era, indeed. They will still be just as adorable with a few little teeth though! I hope the teething isn't too uncomfortable for them. You need some r&r, pneumonia is no joke! I hope you feel a lot better soon!

Dropping in for a quick update.. J has finally learned to sit up from lying down all by himself!! Gosh I was so proud of him!! He is not showing any interest in crawling yet. He is happy to sit and clap or play high five with me
I am jealous of all the piggy eaters!! LO has become quite fussy with eating and refuses food whenever I try to feed him. So I recently started putting food on table for him to pickup.. hopefully he figures it out.
@Adira: Great you have setup 529!! reminded me I have been thinking about it and need to set one up soon. I am hoping though LO gets some kind of scholarship and it won't be too expensive. J is a parrot and tries to repeat after what I say but I don't think he understands any of the words yet.
@Mrs. Blue: hope you feel better soon!!

@Mrs. High Heels: $1000/week! wow, that is just insane, how could anyone even afford that?
@Mrs. Blue: I hope that you are able to get some rest and feel better. Also hope those teeth don't cause the boys too much trouble.
@QueensBee: That is an awesome contribution!
I'm so excited, today I booked a flight for Feb for myself and Isaac to go to my mom's for a week! We'll get to see a bunch of family and I'll get to see my sister pregnant. Myself and our other sister are also going to throw a baby shower while I'm there. As much as I'm not a fan of traveling with Isaac I'm just so excited!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@silver1: That is awesome that he is sitting, I'm sure it won't be too long and he will be crawling everywhere. Enjoy these last moments of being able to leave him in one spot.

oh I put him down to sleep in crib tonight as usual but he kept getting up to sit and jumping on the the bed. I think he was excited to figured it I wonder how long the crib is going to last now (its the ikea one). He has been jumping while sitting for sometime now and I can only imagine when he gets to standing.
@ALV91711: yes I will!! eeks no baby proofing done yet!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@QueensBee: Glad to hear that Pete and Xander are on the same page when it comes to words! That makes me feel better! Xander doesn't even do the "mamama" sounds. I've heard him make them a couple times, but mostly he sticks to "da da da" and "ba ba ba" and occasionally "ra ra ra"!
Oh wow, I'm jealous about how much you've been able to contribute to your 529 plan for Pete!!! He's such a lucky guy!! Of course everything is more expensive in NY, so you'll need more money, haha. I'm really hoping Xander decides to go in state for college to make it more affordable!!
@silver1: Yay sitting!!!! That's awesome!!! And he may be closer to crawling - I feel like Xander learned to sit up and only a few weeks later, learned to crawl!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@silver1: I love how they get so excited when they finally figure something out. So fun!
@ALV91711: That is great you are going to be able to go home and throw your sister a shower. I can't imagine traveling with R alone, you are brave!

OMG girls, yesterday was sooooo miserable. When I picked up Xander from daycare last night, he was just waking up from a nap, and he was screaming his head off. He cried for a good 10 minutes before I got him to calm down, but as soon as I put him in the car, he started wailing again. Cried the whole way home and only stopped when I got him out of the car. Then when I put him down so I could change out of my work clothes, he started crying again. Stopped when I picked him up. Started up again when I changed his diaper. Stopped when I picked him up. Finally got him calm enough that I tried to feed him and half way through dinner, he starts crying again. It was miserable!! I had to clean up everything while holding him, which was rough! FINALLY calms down about 2 minutes before Hubs comes home and then is in a GREAT mood for 30 minutes while Hubs plays with him and I pump. Then I go to change his diaper to get his ready for bed, the screaming starts up again! Ugh, WTF! I think he hates me.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: You crack me up! I promise he doesn't hate you. he just wanted some snuggles!! It sucks cleaning up while holding them doesn't it. Some nights I just leave the mess till she goes to bed if she won't let me put her down.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I think what made it so much worse was that he was in a great mood for those 30 minutes that Hubs was playing with him and I had to pump! Before and after, he was miserable and making ME miserable! Ugh!!!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: From 3-5 months we did a few flights and it wasn't too bad. This time may be a bit harder since he doesn't want to sit still. I think I'll just bring some snacks to distract him. Once I get there I'll probably be pretty free from having to look after him, just will have to nurse. His grandma's and aunties will all dote on him.
@Adira: That sucks! I'm sure Xander doesn't hate you. And why do they have to be all well behaved when their dad's are around? You try and tell DH they are grumpy and they are all smiles and happy.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I hate it when R is an angel after day care on Friday's for DH but has been a pain in arse for me all week.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: @Smurfette: Ugh, right??? I mean, I know he loves me, but why is he such a cranky pants to me and is so much fun for Hubs???
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Oh my gosh, girls, tonight more than made up for yesterday! When I arrived at daycare, Xander was in such a great mood! He crawled up to me and immediately wanted me to pick him up, and he was sooooo happy! And when I put him in his car seat, he was just smiling up at me and babbling and he babbled the entire way home! And once we got home, he just crawled around the house after me and did his excited panting! And then Hubs got home and we were all able to eat as a family and Xander only complained during dinner when we weren't feeding him fast enough!! It was such a nice evening!!!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@silver1: that's so cute about him jumping while sitting!!
@Adira: yaaay!! i missed your update yesterday, but i'm glad to hear you had a great night together as a family!! happy babies = happy life.. haha
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Adira: that is so awesome. Sounds like a nice night.
I just can't win. I got to sleep about an hour early since I am so tired and Isaac wakes up for the first time almost an hour earlier than normal. Thanks baby.

@Adira: I forget if we have a traditional 529 plan or something else for K? Actually just gave all the money and gift checks to my FIL to open the account and "manage". lol. He "rounds up" each deposit. We don't do any regular deposits yet, but once I go back to work when LO(s) older, we will. Or when I bug DH enough to set up an auto-deposit. K was saying "Dada" for months and months mainly. Now she is trying to copy more sounds. DH recently downloaded some Baby Einstein episodes and K loves them! She tries to copy all the words! This week she has really been trying to say "Duck" and "Star", which are departures from all the "da", "ba", "ma", "la" sounds she'd been making for months. She's having trouble finishing the last letter of the words, but mama is still impressed! Your last two days posts cracked me up. Highs and Lows huh? Xander likes to keep mama on her toes!
@Smurfette: @ALV91711: Thank you! I know it's not even fair to say, but I feel like I've been SO exhausted since my sister gave birth! lol! Such is the role of big sister, cooking and shuttling food back and forth, helping hold the baby while they eat, etc. AND trying to keep a handle on K. Definitely birth control for awhile!
@Mrs. High Heels: LOL! That's crazy about your EDD with N too! Oh I just can't believe she's 3 and such a sweetheart! I remember your posts on her being a bit of an introvert, and she seems quite the opposite from your pics now!
@ALV91711: I totally feel your pain on the teething! We've been having to give a 2nd dose of Motrin in the MOTN because K just moans and moans and writhes around in her sleep until it's full blown crying. You can just see she is in pain. Not to mention she's been scraping my nips or something! BFing is getting uncomfortable! Sounds like you have an exciting and busy trip planned! And LOL to your last post. Story of my life.
@Mrs. Blue: Awww! So bittersweet isn't it? I totally miss gummy smiles. DH is all like, "she's a toddler now" with all them teeth.
@QueensBee: Thanks! I totally peeled open a chicken tender and gave her the inside breast meat too. She hasn't had that reaction again yet, FX'd, or maybe because she hasn't seen gma gpa again. Wow! I wish we were more focused on our contributions. 2014 planning!
@silver1: Yay on sitting up! Boo on the picky eating. You might remember K went through this recently too. For about 2 weeks. Now she is interested in food (mine, mostly) again for the most part. I guess the best advice is to just keep offering. OMG - jumping already? Oy vey...
Well ladies, I almost feel as exhausted as having a newborn. With all these wake-ups, a super-active, wriggly, climbing, energetic baby, now coupled with clinginess and a no-fear approach to all her explorations... I actually find myself jealous of my sister for the newborn phase. Sure, they have to hold the baby to sleep. But sleep she will. For hours. And they can sleep when she sleeps. They can eat with two hands at the table, in one sitting. lol. I know, I know. Exhaustion was awful in the beginning, but I think I'm running on the crud at the bottom of the barrel somedays here. K is a super fun and happy LO, but where does she get ALL.THIS.ENERGY? I even TRY to wear her out, but she usually wins. Then is super happy and thrilled with herself for not having to nap. Today's case in point. ~50 min. nap in the morning. I'm glad - packed up all the Xmas ornaments. Played with Auntie, dogs, and daddy, crawled around, jumped, etc. for a good 2+ hours. Napped for 29 min. Refused to nap again. Happy as a clam and stayed up 15 min. later than normal because she was playing with DH. wth. I need to bottle some of her natural energy...

Sorry for the ranty post - but DH leaves tomorrow to go back to Mammoth for a week. I can't stand the thought of being so isolated up there again so K and I are staying home. So - solo-parenting for the longest time so far. yippee.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Gahhh, it's like he knew how long you had been sleeping and wanted to make sure you got the same amount of sleep as usual!
@shopaholic: My husband's grandfather actually mentioned something about opening an account for Xander, but I wasn't sure what he was talking about, so Hubs and I just went ahead and opened a 529, haha. And wow!! I'm so impressed that K is working on other sounds and words!! Smart baby!!! And I hear you about the highs and lows!!! My last two days were extreme opposites of each other!!
Hahaha, this cracked me up: " Sure, they have to hold the baby to sleep." You're funny! I remember the newborn stage was so stressful! Every time I tried to sit down to eat, Xander would immediately wake up screaming to bed fed!! I had to learn how to shovel food in my mouth in seconds! I much prefer these days having to chase after Xander and play with him! Although, I'm not home with him 24/7 - I think that would drive me crazy, haha, so I do not envy you!!! Good luck during your week of solo parenting... hopefully it'll go smoother than you're expecting!
@Mrs. High Heels: So I said before that I thought Xander was in a wonder week, but now I'm really thinking it!! He ate a ton last night, but woke up super early this morning, so I really don't think he was hungry, but he wouldn't go back to bed until I nursed him!! I hope it was just a one-off thing...
